[Season 8; episode 6]

------

Third Person's POV

Sydney had to wake up super early in the morning to watch Derek help Spencer for the Federal Bureau softball game. Which was amusing as Sydney never seen her father do any kind of sports. So this will be fun.

"Okay. You see my hips? See my hips. You seing right through, nice and easy. Alright, come on. You give it a try." Derek says persuading Spencer.

"It was just a ride to the airport. This wasn't exactly what I had in mind when I said 'I owe you one'."

"Hey, you act like this is torture. You know, there are people who think this is fun." Derek says as Sydney grins as she stands beside Derek.

"Do you realize which you're talking to? It's Dad, anything involving physical activity is torture for him." She says to him while pointing to her father.

"Hey!" He says defending himself but she shook her head. "Believe it or not, most of my childhood sports memories aren't altogether pleasant."

"Some of us know that genius. Besides, it's one game. They need a body, they need your skinny geekie body. You might not even have to play." Sydney says as Derek chuckled at what she said.

"Perfect. Can we go now?" He asked as Sydney groaned at her Dad knowing he would take that option just to get out this.

"Come on. Take the bat and give it a try. Please? For me?" Sydney says in her best 'sweet' voice as she batted her eyes at her father while giving him her puppy dog eyes.

"Fine, okay." He says looking away from his daughter with a shake of his head knowing that he can't get away from this. As much as he wants to but with Derek....and Sydney.... Yeah he's not leaving anytime soon.

"Good job pretty boy, listen to your daughter."

"Yeah, pretty boy." Sydney says as Spencer shook his head at her.

"Your gonna like this, kid. I promise." Derek says.

"It's easy, see it, hit it. Relax." Sydney says like it's the most easiest thing in the entire world.

"Here we go." Derek says as he starts the ball machine, the ball flies out, and Spencer swings but he misses the ball.

"Okay, that's okay. First try, that's okay." Sydney says to him as Derek nods his head agreeing with him.

"Keep your eye on the ball." Derek says to Spencer.

"Gravity plus drag coefficient plus magnus...I see what you're saying. If I can adjust the velocity of my swing-" Spender says before Sydney stops him.

"No, no dad. What we're saying is get out of your head." Sydney says shaking her head at her Dad.

"Just feel it." Derek says adding to what Sydney said.

"Feel it. Feel it." Spencer says repeating what Derek said but it's not working.

"Don't think, Dad. Just feel it." Sydney says as Spencer sighs, trying to get his thoughts straight and in order but even that's not working.

Derek turns the machine on again. The ball flies out, and Spencer swings but misses again.

"Reid, that's not feeling it." He says as he's not going to say what he wants to, but for the sake of the situation he's not going to.

"I'm feeling like an idiot." Spencer says as Sydney heard a phone ring as its Derek as its most definitely not hers. Her phone is Taylor Swift coded so yeah.

"Today's your lucky say. We just got a case." Derek says as Spencer sighs happily as Sydney shakes her head knowing that's what he wanted to do in the first place.

"Yes! Thank God." He says before putting the bat by the machine.

"You just wanted to get out of that, didn't you?" Sydney says to her Dad as she got into the passenger seat of Derek's truck as she's 'passenger princess'.

Sydney and her dad walk into the round-table room as everyone joins them for the next case. "Last night in Miami, the body of Amanda Lopez was found in an alley. She had been brutally beaten and suffocated." Penelope explained.

"Twenty-three years old, originally from Tampa, ran away from her foster home when she was sixteen years old." Sydney added. "Runaway, prostitute. She couldn't be more high risk." Sydney added.

"And there was evidence of sexual assault, a lot of it." Penelope added.

"Occupational hazard." Rossi tells.

"No way to tell if our unsub is responsible for that." Sydney says as she takes a sip from her iced coffee that Penelope had gotten her when she came in. Sydney looks at the file and her eyebrows raise. "Beating and suffocation. So, he's a sadisf." Sydney concluded.

"A lot of violence. We're there any other victims?" Spencer asked as he looked over to the file that his daughter had.

"Uh, actually, yes, but not the human variety. In the last month, six puppies have been suffocated and beaten, and thank God there are no photos, because I draw the line to dead dogs." Penelope explained as Sydney shook her head at hearing that.

"We sure it's the same guy?" Rossi asks.

"Identical DNA samples were found at all the crime scenes, but no match in the CODIS database." Hotch explains. "Even if there was a match, it might not give us an ID." JJ adds to what Hotch said.

"That sure is a lot of rage." Derek says. "I wonder why he's so angry?"

"It's about the power. Suffocation takes work." Sydney says as she knows what's its like being suffocated as sometimes hee mother does it to her. Everyone in the room knew what it was like for Sydney. "He likes it up close and personal. It's what gets him riled up."

"The unsub's just graduated from animd to human vics." JJ says as she closed her file that she had.

"We need to stop him before he goes serial. Wheels up in 30."

With that the team head to the jet and debrief about the case. "Amanda Lopez has no next of kin and no one reported her missing." Sydney says. "She was an easy target. The unsub probably hoped for that." She adds to what she said.

"The animals were killed in a relatively small geographical radius, in a mostly middle-class suburban area." Spencer states. "But Amanda's body was found the other side of town in Miami's skid row." He added.

"So he left his comfort zone to kill his first human." Rossi says.

"A chance he probably made out of necessity." Hotch tells them as Sydney nods her head in agreement.

"It's hard to find an easy target in mkddle-class residential areas." Derek states.

"He may be young. Typically you see violence to animals in children and teens." Sydney says. "So we're dealing with a young psychopath." She adds.

"But the jump to humans is usually made in their mid-20s." Rossi says as Sydney shakes her head.

"Thomas Dillon started killing at 39." Sydney says as Rossi gives her a look.

"Joseph Duncan was 43?" JJ guesses as Sydney nods her head. "Albert Fish was 54." JJ adds.

"Alright, usually." He corrects himself as both Sydney and JJ smile.

"Well, either way, this guy's moving fast." Derek says.

"His animal kills were only days apart." Rossi says.

"He enjoys it. And now that he's gotten a taste for humans, he's gonna need another fix soon." Sydney says.

"Dave, you go to the ME. Morgan and Reid will go to the crime scene, JJ your with me." Hotch says separating the team.

After discovering that their unsub may have been a teenager and another body being found quickly, the team knew they had to move fast. Sydney was getting her mid afternoon coffee at the police station and thank God they had her favorite creamer so she was happy. She felt someone putting their arms around her which made her grin as she knew it was her dad.

"What?" She asks as she was busy tending to her coffee as he poked her head.

"When we get back you want lunch?" He asked her as she nods her head, before she looked at him with a small smile.

"Don't you have that baseball thingie, or whatever it's called." After she said that he groaned before nodding her head.

"Crap, yeah. Wait how do you know about it?" He asked her as she grins.

"I have my ways." She says as she sipped her coffee and smiling as it was just right. Well for her.

"Of course she does. I'm her best friend. Your daddo owes me a favor so he is an extra body softball." Derek says as Sydney grins.

"I didn't even know the Bureau had a softball team." Spencer says.

"I did." Sydney says as she took another sip from her coffee.

"Since when do you play?" JJ asked.

"Since Morgan drafted me." Spencer says as he looks over to the man responsible. To the man who has an arm slinged around his daughter trying to act innocent.

"Really? Why?" Rossi questions Derek.

"Don't let the skinny geek thing fool you." Derek playfully argues. "Well, didn't you play T-ball when you were younger? It's basically the same thing."

"Yeah, but my dad practically forced me to join the team because he coached. I never made it pass first base." Spencer tells Derek.

"Oh, come on. I know the good doctor's deceptively athletic." Derek says with smirk. "

"Oh, it's deceptive, all right." Rossi states sarcastically.

"You can do it, doc." Sydney says to her Dad as her and Derek fist-bumped each other, making Spencer roll his eyes at the two with a shake of his head.

Hotch had walked in the room and looked towards Dave. "Dave, what did you find out?" He asked.

"None of the let owners had much. Each of their dogs just disappeared from their yard."

"But he did get into their yards unnoticed, so that means he stalked them and knew their patterns and routines." JJ tells.

"What about the list of juvenile offenders Garcia sent us?" Derek asks as Sydney let him take a sip from her coffee as she still has a shitty grin on her face from their conversation with her Dad about softball.

"Local PD's checking out a few names that caught my eye." Hotch tells.

"Excuse me, Agent Hotchner." The team looked towards thread detective in charge. "Another woman's body was just found." He told them and everyone looked at one another as Sydney spoke. "That was quick."

After discovering the next body, Derek had found a man with the name of Rodney Jacob and he had been attacked by a man with a hammer and he refused to do a police report. Reid had successfully gotten through the man and he decided to help give a sketch of the young guys face.

At the end of the day, the older unsub had been guilty of killing the younger unsub and before be could kill the next victim, Sydney shot him, which killed instantly.

She wasn't scared as much since she killed that Maggie last week. She took her Dad's advice to talk about if need be. Which she did, but to Penelope and JJ.

The team had decided to go and support Spencer and Derek for the softball game. Sydney had been decked out in a cheerleaders uniform that was made for her to support her dad.

"Go team!" Penelope cheered as the team walked up in a group. Besides Sydney. JJ held onto Henry's hand as she smiled.

"What are you guys doing here?" Spencer questioned.

"Oh were not gonna miss this for the world. It's not everyday that you play a sport, geekie." JJ joked remembering when they did a case about a school bombing and they were at the Principals house. "We wanna make this count."

"So the secret service, huh?" Rossi asked as Spencer nodded his head.

"Yeah, we haven't beat those chumps for five years." Derek revealed as Sydney nods her head.

"Five long measly years. They have nothing else to do but practice, partying." She says as Penelope put a hat on top of Spencer's head and everyone cheered.

The team beside Syd made their way to the bleachers and the fame was a good one. Derek made great swings but Spencer on the other hand, not so much. He kept getting strikes no matter how many times the team cheered for him. Then Morgan called a time-out and Syd ran towards the two.

"Come on, listen to me, kid. Look at me." Derek says as Spencer nods his head just as Syd got to the two out of breath.

"It's the bottom of the ninth. There's two outs, and we are losing by one run. Okay? You are the guy, dad." Sydney says in between breaths as her dad shook his head 'no'. "No, I'm not."

Derek disregared him and nodded. "Yes. All you have to do is get it over their heads and I will score, and then you run like hell." Soencer began to overthink it. "I've been doing the calculations. Force equals--" Sydney shook her head.

"Dad, stop. Stop. Get out of your head. All the physics in the world will not work unless you just let it flow." Sydney says to him.

"I don't know if I can." He says as he shook his head.

"You remember all those unpleasant childhood sports memories?" Sydney asked as she knows the answer, but she's trying to get into her Dad's head. He nodded his head at his daughter wondering where she's going with this. "Okay, right now, you can erase them, all of it for good. Dad, stop thinking, just feel it. Okay, you got thus. Trust me." She says as Derek smiled proudly at Sydney, he knew that Spencer would half-ass listen to his daughter.

Derek could tell that Spencer was still doubting himself and Derek looked over at Syd even if she was next to him. "If it helps, think of Syds. She's your good luck charm right now, make her proud." He says to Spencer as he nods his head with a smile on his face.

"I got this." He says he smirked and headed back to the plate ready to swing and everyone cheered. With the thought of making his daughter proud of him in his head. Once the ball was thrown he focused as hard as he could and he hit the ball and it was flying.

"Run! Go! Go! Go!" Everyone yelled once Spencer hit the ball. He stayed there for a hot minute before making a run for it. Successfully, he made it through all of the bases and was safe, causing Syd to scream loudly for her Dad. The BAU team had finally won a softball game against the Secret Service. The baseball team lifted Spender like he was a king.

All Sydney could do was look at him with a wide smile on her face as she was immensely proud of him.

After that Sydney made her way towards the gate entrance and immediately rushed over to her Dad and practically jump on him as she gave him the biggest hug that she could give him. He kissed her head as he did so. He wishes the moment could last forever, of her being this happy but he knows that won't happen again.

"I love you, baby. I do trust me." He says to her as he kept her in his arms not wanting to let her go.
