[Season 8; episode 5]

----

Sydney's POV

"What do you mean he's not going? Every kid loved eating candy that will rot their teeth." I says as JJ had explained that her son didn't want to go trick-or-treating this year. Every kid loves trick-or-treating, hence why I'm wearing a costume on said holiday.

Don't ask me what, I don't even know. I'm probably going to be Taylor Swift again.

"Henry's scared." JJ starts as I tilt my head slightly confused of why this kid is scared of trick-or-treating. "One of his little buddies told him that Halloween was the only time when all the real monsters come out because they can blend in." JJ says as I shake my head though my ears did perk up.

"What are their names? That's uncalled for." I said as me and Penny were shoving our faces in pre-halloween candy that she may or may not have bought.

Which is fine because I'm in the sharing mood anyway, so it works.

"Never thought about that. Good monster strategy, throwing candy is always the better option." Rossi commented as I smirked as Penny nodded her head agreeing with me.

Throwing candy never hurted nobody, right?

"You did tell him it wasn't true, right?" Penny couldn't help but ask.

"Of course I did. But he's convinced." JJ sighs.

"Childhood fears are resistant to adult logic. Sometimes you just have to wait it out." Old ass Rossi tells her.

"Wise ass." I commented under my breath which made Penny shake her head a little with a grin.

"Not nice choice of words, Syds." She says which made me frown.

"Nuts." I said as she took the last piece of candy that we were sharing as I sat on JJ's desk with my legs crossed over each other.

"For how long?" JJ asked then wise ass Rossi continues. "Well, if he's 23 and this still worries you, then, you have a problem." Rossi tells her which made JJ laugh a bit.

"Well, see, the thing is, I think I'm partly to blame." JJ says as she stands up from her seat as Penny helped me down, so I don't land on my face.

"How, and also bad parenting. Shame on you." I commented as JJ gave me a playful side-glare.

"Well the other night, Will and I were up late, we were having some wine, talking about some of the codes we've worked on, and at one point, I said I felt like there was no end to all the monsters walking around, and..." JJ explains as I took a sip from Penny's coffee that she so graciously left unattended.

Which is a mistake on her part, because coffee is my best friend.

Rule number one, never leave your coffee unattended around me. It will magically disappear forever.

"Henry sneaked into the room to listen to the grown-ups." Rossi says as we all knew where this was going.

"I do it all time." I piped up which earned laughs from the team.

"Yeah, we need a cone of silence for our house." JJ stated as Penny chuckles.

"Well I don't think, I'll be doing anything since I have no life. So I can take him." I say to JJ.

"Yes, trust Syd with a kid. Genius." Rossi says as I stuck out my tongue at him.

"Did your six wives trust you with their kids, too?" I remarked which made his mouth gape at my comment.

"She's been awfully sassy lately, doc." Penny said as I took a seat beside dad.

"Try living with her, then tell me how it is." He says to her as we begin the case.

By we, I mean the adults. I'm just here for my sarcastic comments and dark dry humor.

"Those of you who like a good mystery, please unleash your inner Agatha Christie, 'cause this one's a real humdinger." Penny says.

"Gary Ellard, Barry Deaver, Paul Hicks, and Terry Rodgers. Over the course of the last month and a half, these four men have gotten in their cars in La Grande, Oregon, and drove into the never-to-be-seen-againsville, poof, gone. The latest victim, Terry Rodgers, disappeared 24 hours ago." Penny explained.

"Forensic evidence point us everywhere?" JJ asked as I nod my head.

"Uh, point would imply there is evidence, and there is no evidence, at least for the first three victims." Penny tells us.

"No forensics, no witnesses, no ransom demands. Maybe these guys just voluntarily decided to hit the road." Derek thinks outloud as I shook my head.

"Four sudden disappearances in a community this small, this isn't about seeking green pastures." I said.

"Based in least known sightings, were dealing with a sizeable geographic area." Hotch tells. "He's efficient and well organized. It's not easy to make four people vanish and stay vanished. He's probably got them hidden somewhere." He continues.

"It has been done before, though. Political kidnappings frequently require holding multiple adults simultaneously." Dad so graciously had to say, thanks by the way.

"Or they're already dead. Nothing says 'can't be founded like a shadow grave in the middle of nowhere." Rossi added.

"Assuming they are alive, how is the unsub controlling them?" I questioned.

"And for what purpose?" JJ added on.

"The time between abductions is shortening with each victim. Wheels up in 30."

We were beginning to debrief as Penny had called the us to see if she had found anything in the time being. "Garcia anything on the last victim, Terry Rodgers?" Hotch asked without using please or thank you.

Rude.

"Only that he's unemployed and lives in a cabin in the woods. But primitive, like no flush toilet primitive." She says as I raised my eyebrow with a shake of my head.

"Completely different victimology." I started. "Ellard coaches track and field at a local college. Deaver's a small business owner, and Hicks is an attorney."

"All married with young families." JJ added as I nodded my head.

"Anither difference, the first three victims were all born and raised in La Grande. Terry Rodgers only moved to town a couple of months ago." Rossi tells.

"Do, you know where from, Pen?" I asked her.

"Sweetcakes, Rhode Island. Though there's a five months gap between Terrh being in Rhode Island and then arriving in Oregon. Where he was and what he was doing is a big fat blank."

Derek looked at the file. "It says here that vomit was found in the vicinity of his abduction." I scrunched my face and pretended to gag.

"Gross, thanks for that." I say sarcastically to him.

"Mm. Yes, thank you for reminding me of that disgusting detail, Dreamy D. Yes. That vomit has been collected and is being analyzed as we speak and jm very grateful that I have this job and someone had one that's not me."

"Rodgers is the obvious anomaly of the four, but there'd no apparent overlap between any of the victims." Dad says.

"Almost like the unsub was selecting his targets at random." I added.

"JJ and Morgan go talk to the families of the victims. See if there is something that links them that's not on paper. Dave and I will go to abduction site. "Reid and Sydney go to Terry Rodgers' cabin. He's the one we know least about. Maybe he made himself obscure for a reason." Hotch says as he separates us into groups as I do my typical salute as Aaron's smile quirped up a little.

After the case and successfully finding the unsub, the team and I had made it back home and just in time for Halloween. I was in my costume which was creative for me at least. It was inspired by 'Speak Now' my favorite album from Taylor Swift.

"Uh, excuse me, everybody. I have an announcement to make." I turn over to JJ as everyone outs their attention on her. "As I'm sure some of you were aware, Henry was a little nervous about going trick-or-treating this year. But he's decided to go anyway."

I grinned. "That's great." I said.

"What changed his mind?" Rossi asked curiously.

"The BAU did, that and Syd convinced him to go. She told him to figure out which monsters are real and which ones are not."

"So he wants to be a profiler?" Derek thinks as JJ holds up a single finger up.

"Ah." She starts. "He wants to be his favorite profiler." She says as just then Henry walks in, hand-in-hand with Penny and dressed up as the famous Dr. Spencer Reid - aka his godfather.

I smile widely as the boy walks in and I get his so fucking adorable costume. But nobody is more happy than the man he's dressed up as - my Dad.

"Wow! Yeah!" Dad cheers and kneels to Henry's level. "Oh wow! You look great Henry." He says as he reaches down for his badge and hooks it onto Henry's mini satchel bag to complete the look. "Put this on here."

"Oh, he's official." Derek says as I smile at the sight of Dad and Henry.

I remember I would take Dad's badge when he left it unattended and walk around with it on me. Without a care in the world. Like it was meant to be on me.

If and when I graduate high school, I'm probably gonna go to school to become an FBI agent so I can be like dad. He's a hero in my book.

Penny kneels down to Henry and whispers in his ear. "Tell him." Henry looks over to Dad and cheers. "E equals MC squared!" I smile even wider at the cuteness as Dad gives Henry a high-five. Derek and Rossi cheer as well.

"The monsters don't stand a chance." I say looking at the scene.

"Oh, I know. Ready Syd. Shall we go get you some candy? Come on." JJ says as I grabbed my stuff and walk out without doing a little bow.

"Okay, Taylor!" Derek says as I stuck my tongue at him before following JJ and Henry.

After trick-or-treating we stop to get dinner because Henry got hungry. Or we'll hangry. We stopped at McDonald's which he requested. Which is fine for me. I wouldn't object.

After we got our food JJ headed towards the apartment as we're of course listening to Taylor Swift to complete the night. It only makes sense since I'm dressed as her that we play her on the drive home.

"Had fun, Syd?" She asks as I nod my head.

"Yes, considering I have two bags of candy, I think I hit the candy jackpot." I say emphasizing the two bags of candy that's in between my legs.

Shortly we got to the apartment and I got my bags of candy and I walk to the doors of the apartment building. I turn around and wave at JJ who waved back. After she pulled out of the street I open the to the house. Dad wasn't in the living room so he was probably upstairs.

Then just after I closed the door I heard footsteps coming down the stairs and it was Dad. "Hey baby. Did you have fun?"

"No, not at all. Definitely don't have two huge ass bags of candy." I say lifting up both of my hands to emphasize the bags which made Dad laugh.

"Can't imagine why." He says as he took one of the bags and put it on the counter.

"What did you do while I was gone?" I ask him as we walk up the stairs.

"What do think? I was reading."

"Sounds boring." I say to him as he smiled with a small shake of his head.

"No its not." He says to me as I stuck out my tongue.
