Chapter One: A Begining

Darkness.

That was all V/n could see as she slipped into the room, besides the faint outline of furniture illuminated by the moonlight coming from outside. She slumped her back against a nearby wall, covering her mouth and trying her best to mask her heavy breathing. She was finally in.

After catching her breath, she took cautious steps through the large looking space, her analytical e/c eyes looking over every little detail she could in case there was MORE security set up. She shuddered at the memory of the electric fence she had to pass to get into here.

She absolutely loathed electric fences.

Suddenly, she was met with a door. "Hopefully this knob isn't electrified either," She thought to herself. She braced herself and reached for the doorknob, breathing a small sigh of relief when she wasn't shocked with an electrified zap. That obviously meant that the owners of this mannor weren't paranoid enough to booby trap the inside of their own house, and that made robbing them blind that much easier.

V/n silently opened the door to be met with a hallway as equally dark as the room she was just in, and all of the relief evaporated into irritation. For a wealthy household such as this, she assumed they would have been able to afford some form of decent lighting.

V/n extended her leg, about to take a hesitant step forward, when her earpiece began crackling with static, and the faint sound of a voice. She crinkled her nose at the irritatingly loud pitch.

"--Hello? V/n? Can you hear me?" A deep voice sounded as the static died down.

"Yeah, I can hear you Virus." V/n whispered sharply. "You're a bit loud, though. Turn your volume down." Her partner in crime muttered an apology and clacked away on his keyboard, adjusting the decibels of his voice changer to not deafen her.

"Sorry I lost the contact for a while. I think that electric fence fucked up the signal." He sighed. "I hate electric fences."

V/n shook her head. "Me too, dude, me too. They weren't easy to bypass, but I was able to make it into the manor. Do you mind telling me where I'm supposed to go from here?"

"Oh, right. Ok. You're in the main hall. Head over to your right, its the last door on the left side." V/n nodded to herself, taking mental note of the directions. Upon reaching the door, she quietly opened it and took a peek inside. There were many rolls of paper towel on the floor, as well as shelves stacked with cleaning sprays and multiple mops dumped sloppily in the corner. To the naked eye, it looked like an unsuspecting supply closet, but to V/n, it was just another facade. Over time, she had learned that not everything is as innocent as it appears at first glance.

"Alright, so where's this safe?"

V/n heard the sound of rapid typing, then Virus groaning. He sounded tired. "Virus, are you alright?" She asked, not bothering to mask the concern in her voice.

"I'm fine. Just tired. And hungry." V/n smirks. "Well, lucky you. There are leftovers from last night in the fridge. Take a break, you've earned it." Virus sounded uncertain, but he knew fighting her would be useless. His partner was pretty stubborn sometimes.

Plus he was hungry and tired.

"Fine, I'll take a short break. Look behind the mops, the code is 4-2-7-2. I'll re-connect in about 15 minutes to check in on you. Bye!" He said in a sing-song voice. The staticy noise that filled the ear piece as he disconnected made V/n wince, but she rolled her eyes and smiled to herself. Virus was such a goofball.

"Now back to the task at hand," She thought as she approached the mops. Picking them up and letting them clatter uselessly to the floor, V/n noticed a large hole in the wall where they once stood.

And in that hole was a large, secure looking safe.

"God, it's like they weren't even trying!" She muttered as she input the code into the safe. It softly creaked open, and to V/n's delight, Virus wasn't over exaggerating when he said that this family had a lot of money to spare for rainy days. Of course, it would be helping her deal with her rainy days instead of theirs, but to V/n, it was the same difference.

She gleefully stuffed stack after stack into her bag, only stopping when the fat wads of cash were about to bust the zipper. She hefted the heavy bag up onto her shoulder, carelessly leaving the half empty safe open as she sauntered back to the window, humming happily.

Being a masked robber was no easy job for V/n, and many of her heists were never as peaceful as this one had been-- but this had been a pleasant job for her. As she jumped from the window and wove her way past the electric fences, guard dogs and security officers, she wondered if the jobs in the next city would be as tranquil.
