Chapter 7
Amelia
Whoever said that dreams are better than reality was right, because enjoying my dreams, I fell asleep for work today. So here I am now rushing to the elevator, fixing my hair and straightening my shirt.
The elevator doors started to close when I was already almost in front of them, and with the speed of light I pushed my hand, wriggling between two iron wings to squeeze in among a bunch of people.
"Sorry, sorry."
I muttered, trying to squeeze in between the corporate crowd, who were visibly annoyed by my pushing, muttering something through their teeth.
After a few floors and several elevator bells, the space around me emptied and I breathed a sigh of relief.
"Formalist, perfectionist, idealist."
A raspy voice nestling in my eardrum woke me up instantly. Although I could say that such a color and rough but almost whispering tone of voice, can send a woman back to bed to dream sweet, sweet dreams.
As usual, my body reacted to his proximity, and the elevator really became a heated metal box too tight for all the sighs that were consuming oxygen at an accelerated rate.
"I thought of more appropriate names for you."
He said casually, moving back, far enough that his fresh, menthol breath no longer wrapped around my neck like leach.
"I see you've been thinking about me."
I didn't have to turn around to see his smirk, but I still did, now completely facing him. I suddenly noticed that we were alone. In this metal box whose walls were retreating more and more towards us.
His teasing smirk turned into a wide smile. His snow white teeth were a contrast to his slightly olive skin and dark chocolate hair and eyes.
God, at that moment I thought that it's the same if you hate or love this man- you will definitely be possessed by any feeling towards him. And obsess.
His corpulent build was the main attraction in any space. Wherever he was, this man would be the Burj Khalifa of space, the aurora borealis of the sky.
I was waiting for his answer, when I was startled by the elevator bell.
"When I think of you, all I see is red."
He said, drawing out every word, looking shamelessly at my lipstick-smeared lips. Then he stepped towards the door but stopped a bit when he reached me and whispered softly over his shoulder.
"But red is not my color."
I swallowed hard, not knowing how to figure out the reaction that was raging inside me. He was the master of space, but also the master of words.
This intolerance between us, caused by nothing in particular, was becoming addictive. I did not want to hear his voice, but when that happened my hearing would get used to the heights he sends them to, like some kind of drug.
His arrogance and intolerance infuriated me, while it provided him with the necessary dose to inflate his ego. He loved the cat and mouse game. But he was mistaken about the assigned roles.
I adjusted my jacket and got out of the elevator, heading for my office. Through the glass door I saw that he was clearly in a good mood already talking to Gabriel. As if he sensed my brief glance, he tilted his head just enough for our eyes to meet and imperceptibly touched his lips with his forefinger. It may have seemed to Gabriel that he was thinking about something, but I already knew very well the meaning behind his gesture and attempt to confuse and fuck up my brain.
The rest of the day passed more or less the same as every other day. After work, I went in search of a nice dress for tomorrow's event, but unfortunately none caught my attention. I thought that I would try to find something that I already have in my wardrobe.
Already tired and wanting a relaxing bath, I rummaged through my bag to find the keys to my apartment. When I looked up at the door, a black box with a red rose on it was waiting for me on the doormat.
I turned around to see if anyone was there, but I was completely alone in the empty hallway. I carefully went down and took the box and entered the apartment, quickly turning towards the hallway again.
I took off my coat and left my purse and put the mysterious package on the kitchen counter. I brought the rose closer to my nose and breathed deeply in its enchanting scent. Its dark red petals exuded an intense fragrance that filled my entire being.
I put it down and opened the box. In it was a silk dress of the same color, long with a deep slit on one side. Its beauty was enchanting.
At that moment, I heard the engine revving from the direction of the street. I got to the window overlooking the street and moved the curtain a little to see where the sound was coming from.
Black shadow on his precious bike, was waiting under my window. He looked up at me and then ran off into the night.
