Chapter Two: The Weirdo on Maple Street- Part 3

I drive closely behind Jonathan, listening to his radio blast. I'm taken aback when 'Should I stay or should I go' starts playing, Will's favorite song.

Will and Jonathan are at the edge of Jonathan's bed bobbing their heads to 'Should I stay or should I go' as I lay flat on my back behind them listening comfortably.

"You like it?" Jonathan asks him.

"Yeah, it's cool." Will chimes.

I raise up, grabbing him by the shoulders. "It's more than cool, it's The Clash." He laughs.

"All right, you can keep the mix if you want." Jonathan offers.

"Really?"

"Yeah, really." Jonathan smiles at him turning to me as I nod, smiling myself as I wrap my arms around both of their necks. I made the mix for him a few months ago, but Will's gonna love it. He'll play the hell out of it.

"Really. All the best stuff's on there, courtesy of Toni. Joy Division, Bowie, Television, The Smiths..." He lists off.

"We all know I have the best music taste." I say proudly.

"It'll totally change your life." Jonny adds.

"Yeah, totally." Will smiles, continuing to bob his head.

"Where the hell are you, Lonnie?" I flinch at Joyce's voice. "I don't want to hear it. I don't want to hear it." I drop my arms as the boys slowly turn their heads to the door. I sigh, picking at my finger nails. Joyce and Lonnie always fight, or more so Joyce always calls him out on his bullshit. "This is ridiculous! I'm so sick of your excuses."

Jonathan jumps to his feet, quickly shutting the door so Will doesn't have to hear anymore of it. We're use to it, Will's not. Jonathan comes back over, lowering the volume.

"He's not coming, is he?" Will asks sadly. My heart cracks as I glance at Jonathan.

"Do you even like baseball?" Jonathan asks him truthfully. That'd be a no.

Will pauses. "No, but... I don't know." He shrugs. "It's fun to go with him sometimes." I miss baseball with my dad. We'd always play together and he'd tell me to ignore those who make fun of me for liking and playing it. I stopped playing after.... But see, that's what a dad is supposed to be like.

"Has he ever done anything with you that you actually like?" Jonathan asks yet another good question. "You know, like the arcade or something." I mean not even the movies or something?

"I don't know." Will shrugs.

"No, all right? He hasn't." Jonathan concludes for him. "He's trying to force you to like normal things. And you shouldn't like things because people tell you you're supposed to."

"Exactly." I nod.

"Okay? Especially not him." Jonathan adds. Will nods. I really hope he understands and never lets anyone change him. Ever. "But you like The Clash? For real?" Jonathan goes back to the song.

"For real. Definitely." Will's smile returns.

"Good." I ruffle his hair and Jonathan turns the volume back up. Screw their dad.

Jonathan starts air-drumming as I rock the air-guitar.

We pass the 'Leaving Hawkins' and I sigh. Welp, no turning back now. I just hope the school's too busy with everything to call my mom again, or I'll never get to find Will. Because I seriously doubt he's going to be where we're going...

Shit. It's fucking raining and I'm starting to get soaked at this point as we pull over to park on the side of the street.

"I told you you should ride with me." Jonathan says as he steps out.

"Yeah, yeah." I grumble. We approach the door and he peaks inside before slapping it.

"Hello?" He calls out. Then knocks.

"Yeah." Some woman hollers from inside. I bet that's the famous Cynthia.

She flings the door open, taking a quick glance at us. "Can I help you?"

"Yeah, is Lonnie around?" Jonathan asks.

"Yeah, he's out back. What do you want?" She asks rudely.

"To look around." Jonathan steps around her, letting himself in.

"Hey, what do you think you're doing? Hey!" Cynthia yells as I quickly side step her and follow Jonathan.

"We'll be fast." Jonathan tells her breathlessly rushing to the hall. "Hey, Will! Will!" He opening doors so I do the same. "Will, you here?

"Will! Hello?" I frantically look until someone comes up from behind, scaring the hell out of me, as they shove me to the side and push Jonathan up against the wall causing him to grunt. I immediately realize it's Lonnie. "Hey!"

"Get off!" Jonathan shoves him back.

"Damn, you've gotten stronger." Lonnie points out, his voice sounding too excited at that. He pats Jonathan on the chest.

"Will someone please explain what the hell is going on?" Cynthia shouts at the end of the hall. Oh right, she's here.

"Jonathan, Cynthia. Cynthia, this is Jonathan. My oldest." Lonnie introduces. I'm quite thankful he didn't mention me. Lonnie straightens Jonathan's jacket before trying to bring him in for a hug. "Come here." Who the hell does he think he is?!

"Get off me, man." Jonathan shoves him off again.

3rd Person POV

"Dude, where is Toni?" Lucas asks Dustin as they pedal to Mike's house after school.

"I don't know." Dustin says, not seeming too worried about it. "Her moped wasn't in the parking lot so I just assumed she went to the Byer's again."

Lucas sighs. They hope the weird girl situation is handled when they get to the Wheeler's, both disappointed Toni won't be with them. They know what happened last time she wasn't...

Back to Toni's POV

We head to the backyard to check for Will out here too. Lonnie followed unfortunately. I stay near the house to peak around as they move over to Lonnie's car.

"Take a look at this beaut. Should've seen it when I got it." Lonnie looks at his car. "Took me a year, but it's almost done." Jonathan ignores him, going straight to the trunk. "Really. You want to check up my ass, too?" Lonnie smarts off. I scoff to myself. I hate him, so much. Jonathan slams it back down. "I told you the same thing as I told those cops, he's not here and he never has been."

"I knew it." I mutter quietly.

"Then why didn't you call Mom back?" Jonathan interogates.

"I don't know, I just... I assumed she just forgot where he was." Lonnie shrugs it off like it's nothing. I cross my arms. What an ass. Who knew someone could piss me off worse than Steve and his entourage today. "You know, he was lost or something. The boy never was very good at taking care of himself." He lets out a chuckle.

"This isn't some joke, all right? There are search parties, reporters..." Jonathan lists.

"Hopper's not still chief, is he?" Lonnie wonders. I let out a small laugh. Jonathan looks at him. "Tell your mother she's gotta get you out of that hellhole. Come out here to the city. People are more real here, you know?" I give Jonathan a look and he shoots me an apologetic one. "And then I could see you more." Our attention immediately snaps back to Lonnie.

Jonathan shakes his head, finding that amusing

"What, you think I don't want to see you?" Lonnie defends.

"I know you don't." Jonathan snips.

"See, that's your mother talkin' right there. She even know you're here?"

Jonathan glances over to me. Well don't look at me!

"Oh, great." Lonnie continues. "So one kid goes missing, the other runs wild?" He snorts. "Some real fine parenting right there." I'm so close to saying something. "Look, all I'm saying is, maybe I'm not the asshole, all right?"

It starts sprinkling again.

"Come on, Jonathan, lets go." I shake my head. What a waste.

Jonathan nods. "In case you forgot what he looks like." He shoves one of the missing posters to Lonnie's chest. "I'm sorry." He mutters to me.

I check the time as we walk back into the house. "I better go. I should get home before it's dark and the rain picks up again." I hate having to leave him, but my mom will be calling the police if I'm not back home before dark, especially with Will missing.

He nods. "I understand."

"You staying?" My brows furrow.

"I'm gonna look around town a bit before I head back, just in case." He says.

I sigh. "Okay..."

He pulls me in for a hug. "Thank you for coming."

"Course Jonny." I pause. "We're gonna find him, okay?"

"Yeah." He releases slowly. "Be careful."

"You too." Back to the "hellhole".

3rd Person POV

Lonnie enters just as Toni leaves.

"Where'd your little girlfriend go?" He taunts. Jonathan scoffs, heading for the door. "You know I always pegged you as a queer just like your brother, but hey, good job son." He chuckles.

Jonathan immediately spins back around and swings, socking Lonnie right in the nose.

"She's not my girlfriend." He angrily spits out, ignoring the pain that shoots to his fist as Lonnie stumbles backwards into the fridge and blood starts dripping down his face.

"What the hell is going on here!" Cynthia rushes in, hurrying over to Lonnie.

"Go to hell." Jonathan says before storming out as Cynthia continues yelling.

Author's Note: Sorry Toni didn't say much in this scene, she's very much an observer in these kinds of situations. But I wanted her here with Jonathan for the plan I had for ending...

Hope y'all enjoyed <3

I'm so freakin excited for what I have in store for the remaining chapters, eeekkk!!!
