C13- ☆Truth of the Matter☆
☆Unedited lmao☆
Nao was not really surprised when Muzan told her that he wanted her to be a demon.
It was clearly obvious from the very start that he wanted her to throw her humanity away.
Their past conversations always held hints of his true desires but Nao pretended that she did not know because she wanted to trust him even if he's a demon.
"What does Nao-san think about immortality?"
"Immortality? Etoooo.... Living a long, long life is something I've dreamed of but not that long! I mean, to be able to live centuries and millennias without aging or growing up, is amazing and at the same time sad, don't you think?"
"Why does Nao-san thinks it's sad? Most humans would want to live a long life."
"Because it's just endless suffering. There are more disadvantages. Your family won't be there with you and you would be forced to endure the fact that they would grow old and wither while you remain young and youthful. I don't want to experience that at all. It'll be really sad for me because I can never die. Not only my loved ones would die but all of the people surrounding me would someday rest and go. And I would be the only one who would stay because of my immortality. I don't want that at all."
"I see. So Nao-san doesn't want to be immortal because she's afraid of being alone."
"Anoo.... That's not really... well, I guess it is kinda true. I don't want to be alone. Being alone is really sad."
"Then would Nao-san consider immortality if she's not alone?"
Muzan's continuous questions should have alerted her. Nao should have known better since that day but Nao was weak. Weak for him and she continued to stay by his side as if she wasn't talking to the devil.
"That would be tempting.. but I still refuse. That would be too much time on my hands. If I could live longer, I would probably travel around the world, eat different kinds of food and meet different kinds of people. I would try a lot of new things and experiment. I'd probably try to help people but then I would eventually lose things that interest me and I won't have anything left to do with forever as a time."
"Nao-san really thought it through."
"Of course! That's why I'm already going to tell Muzan that I would remain his human friend until the day I die. If I do end up being a demon, I'd probably throw myself under the sun before I end up attacking anyone. "
"Nao-san, if you do end up being a demon, I would tie you up and lock you inside my house so you won't have to do something so unnecessary."
"Ehhhh.... How mean! "
Between the way Muzan suddenly embraced her and the way he spoke as if he was truly going to make his words come true, Nao would have preferred not answering at all.
The day he told her his plans for her, was the day Muzan slowly revealed his true colors.
"I've never seen a princess before! I feel envious that Muzan has seen one."
"Of course. I am looking at one right now. "
"H-Huhh... No way. Muzan is not being funny at all!"
"Does Nao-san thinks I'm joking?"
"Meanie..."
"Nao-san is too cute."
"Muzan is such a bully."
"How old is Nao-san again?"
"Uwaaaa! Don't tease me! Muzan is being too mean!"
"But I wasn't joking when I said that Nao-san is a princess."
"Why don't Muzan take me to see a real princess instead? Maybe I'll believe him."
"Hmm...Does Nao-san not trust me?"
"Muzan!"
It was two months since they've been seeing each other when Muzan took her to see an actual princess. Of course, Nao should have seen the obvious hints.
That time, Nao knew she was talking to another demon when Muzan introduced her to 'Warabihime'. Nao was simply fascinated at that time and so she ended up being deeply engrossed in a conversation with the Oiran.
"Can you dance?"
"Yes?"
"Can you sing?"
"Of course. I-"
"Uwaaa... Amazing! How about an instrument? Can you play one? Like the biwa?"
"That's--"
"If you can, that'd be great! I'd love to see you perform!"
"E-Err..."
"Nao-san's enthusiasm is endearing but Warabihime can't simply perform all of your requests." With a gentle squeeze on my hands, Muzan spoke. "Maybe we should visit again next time."
"Ehhh... But I want to talk to the princess some more..."
"Maybe next time, when Warabihime is not busy. And by then, Nao-san would definitely be a princess too."
"Muzan really says a lot of weird things. I can't be an Oiran. My brother would not be happy."
"Do I? I'm only stating the truth. But I didn't mean it that way. Nao-san is definitely going to be a princess, not an Oiran. I'll make sure of it."
"Hmm..? If Muzan says so.."
Nao would have never expected that Muzan would actually keep her locked up and hidden. Additionally, he spoils her by giving her a lot of expensive kimonos with the new room he provided for her. All the furniture looked extremely costly and brand new and even though Nao was rich, everything in this new room was simply not something Nao would buy just because she has the money for it.
Nao wagers that she could probably sell the mirror near her cabinet and be well off for two years.
Nao has asked Muzan plenty of times why he's giving her so much but he'll simply tell her that a princess deserves nothing but the best.
This was not enough reason for Nao, obviously. Which is why she would often directly asked Muzan immediately when he's present.
"Muzan doesn't really need to spend this much money on me. I have a lot of kimonos at home. Why does Muzan do this?"
Muzan softly squeezed her hand and gazed at her.
"Because I made a promise to Nao-san. That I'll make her into a princess."
Nao squinted her eyes and placed a finger under her chin.
"Really...? I don't remember at all."
"It's fine. Nao-san doesn't need to remember as long as she's here."
"About that..." Nao sat beside him and spoke. "When will I be allowed to go home? Yui must be really worried about me and my brother is probably the same because we exchange letters every week."
"Muzan?" Nao called his name when he suddenly turned deadly quiet.
As if on cue, a hand caressed her cheek.
"Nao-san, are you happy with me?"
Nao's eyes widened a bit at his question and she shifted a little so she was facing him.
"Of course. I'm happy I met Muzan."was her confident answer.
"Then, Nao-san wouldn't mind staying with me at all. Because she's already happy."
Muzan's answer suddenly made Nao's eyebrows furrow in wonder.
"I'm happy I'm with Muzan but I also need to return to my family. They'll get worried about me so I can't stay for long." She then placed a hand over his, the one that was used to caress her cheek.
"So when will I be able to go home?"
The long silence that followed afterwards was not something Nao expected at all.
When Nao turned to see Muzan's face, she was surprised to see the cold expression he was wearing.
"Nao-san is already home. There's no need for Nao-san to leave."
Nao chuckled at the way he said that with a serious face, hoping that it was all just a joke.
"Muzan is joking.... right?"
