Song: line Without a Hook - Ricky Montgomery
The next morning, the dawn of a day. Six fucking thirty, "Give me a break!" Anastasia groaned, turning off her phone's alarm, she couldn't bear the light shining through her screen. Ana rolled into her side, slowly her eyes drifted open.
A minute turned into five, five turned to thirty before she could even think about getting up; it was seven thirty-five.
Still clothes in a graphic tee and shorts she clambered into the kitchen where she hovered over the boiling pot of coffee, unaware that others inhabited the area.
"Morning to you too." It was Tony,
Anastasia mumbled an incoherent reply that seemed to be a 'good morning.'
"Not a morning person?" Steve Rogers sipped his coffee, this caused Ana's eyes to widen. She wasn't decent. Anastasia turned sharply on her heels facing the Captain and the billionaire Tin Man with a mug of hot steaming coffee.
Tony laughed, he knew of Anastasia's liking for the man. "I should be getting ready." She fast-walked to pack her bag for the night at the Parker's household.
"Before you go, I got something to show you." Tony nodded leaning against her closed door.
"Okay, just let me get changed." She hurriedly replied, with Tony chuckling shaking his head.
Anastasia packed her small duffle bag Tony brought her before her first time going to the Compound. She never forgot the damage she had caused, the intensity of her powers.
Her bag packed now by the elevator out, she ate breakfast, "Happy's driving me at 11 am to meet my friends."
Tony halted to a stop. This was Steve's cue to leave, Steve legged for his morning run with Natasha and Clint ate his food in peace. Thor was occupied with himself and a cellphone, Banner had other things to deal with.
"I don't think you should go" Tony's voice seemed to shake but before completing his sentence he got it together and looked at Ana.
"Why?" Ana asked more like snapped,
"I just got a feeling you shouldn't leave, what if you get triggered and spike out of control?" Tony ranted, he wanted her to stay this wasn't a lie he was shooting. He felt strongly,
"Tony, seriously, I got the gloves and you've got the GPS tracker on my phone. And Happy is on speed dial, and so are you and Pepper-" Anastasia stood up placing her hands on the billionaire's shoulders trying to reassure her of the dangers.
"-Remember what Pep said, I can't be confined to this tower forever. No more Rapunzel, I still have to make a life, got to still make friends. " Tony knew she was right, but it didn't settle the uneasy feeling rumbling in his gut.
"Happy is coming at eleven to drive me to Peters, he lives in Queens I'll text you the address." She scrolled through her phone doing what she said, Tony received it.
"Now what's that thing you needed to show me." Anastasia finished, ushering the man to follow through.
"Right." Tony led Anastasia to his lab where a robotic form greeted her warmly,
'Greeting, Anastasia Montgomery. I am JOCASTA, your Artificial Intelligence, I am linked to your phone and other features. Would you like to be notified?"
Anastasia looked at Tony and Tony looked at Anastasia, her smile was wide and warm. "You didn't!"
"Oh but I did!-" Tony proudly replied, "And all you gotta do is say his name."
"Show off! JOCASTA-" Ana called out,
"Yes?"
"Please showcase all my features!" Ana was excited.
JOCASTA displayed a suit, stunning, sleek, red, and black colors. "Your suit," Tony stated she was speechless.
Tracing her fingers over the material,
"Made of Titanium steel, it peels like mesh.
Would you like to name this suit?"
She thought for a second, trying to think of many things she'd call this masterpiece, "I will name this new person, this creation. Goddess of Witchcraft, Hekate."
Tony was surprised,
"Hekate, wonderful choice. Hekate, Goddess of Witchcraft and idolized from Greek and Norse Mythology. Would you like to try this suit on?"
She would have loved to but she was going to be late,
"Kid, before you leave I have to talk to you." Anastasia sighed, at Tony's request.
"He can wait, this is important. So the reason why I don't want you to go is that you are strong. Not only that, you're like one of the most powerful beans I've ever seen and we need your help."
Tony didn't look at her, staring at his creation JOCASTA, and couldn't be faced with the difficult task.
"Help with what?" Anastasia asked bluntly.
"Sokovia." Was all Tony could muster.
"What the hell, is there?" Anastasia spluttered,
"Like I said your power is intense, there is a scepter there, we need it." Anastasia looked at Tony, a glassy eye as she felt something mentally drawing her back,
She could hear Tony talking but words seemed incoherent like nothing actually was making noise. Her mind draws her back to fighting Thor. Remembering Abraham, that man who wore a cursed grin and sounded like poisonous darts.
The pain, soaring through her veins. Eyes throbbing red like they were about to burst with some sort of energy.
And Thor, no one should've done what she was capable of doing. Yet she accomplished that. Throwing him deeply into a pit, scared he wasn't going to make it. Her fault, Ana's fault. No, she couldn't.
"Kid you listening?" Tony pulled her out of a trance.
"Sorry, zoned out." Anastasia muttered dryly.
"I was saying, we need to infiltrate an enemy base to get the scepter. And we need you to stay and help." Tony finished.
"I c-can't, I'm not ready. Y-you all believe I am this person of almighty power but no, besides I am scheduled till tomorrow. Peter wants me to go!" Anastasia mustered up,
"Peter can wait." This was frustrating for both of them now.
"No." Anastasia standing her ground, she won't put herself on hold. Tony was being selfish, disregarding that Anastasia had a life.
"What?" He was not really used to that singular word, no one besides Pepper could use it so bluntly.
"I can't help right now, I cannot put myself on hold for you. Not right now, I made friends. Friends that give a shit."
"I give a shit!" Tony bounced annoyed,
"I didn't say that! You know I will forever be indebted to you and Pepper, but I am fourteen. I have to live like a normal girl, well I still can because once I go there-" Anastasia thought of it, the harsh reality.
"-I can't come back. You've made your public stand. I am not ready. Now if you don't mind I've got a movie night with my friends." Anastasia walked out leaving the last word to herself.
Tony left speechless, didn't know whether to be upset or proud that she stood up for herself. Tony had every inkling of a thought that she was wrong, Ana was strong, independent and for a fourteen-year-old girl, she was one of the bravest people he knew. Braver than himself.
Anastasia sat comfortably in the backseat of Happy's car. Giving him clear instructions on how to get to Peters, only from a text.
"So who's going?" Happy asked.
"Peter and Ned." Anastasia answered,
"Oh, never- wait is that the guy- Pepper mentioned- nevermind." Happy shut up.
"Pepper did what?!"
They pulled up to the Parkers household greeted by May, his Aunt. Through introductions and chit-chat. Peter took Anastasia away from the boring adult talk.
"So Ned will be here in an hour" Peter smiled awkwardly, they sat on the edge of the couch they were opposite one another.
"Text me when you need me!" Happy called exiting the house.
Ana waved away, confirming his words. Still on her mind were words of Tony Stark asking the favor to adventure into enemy lines. Ana felt bad for declining well more so holding off on the scheme. And hoping to reconcile, and come to an agreement on the subject matter. After all it seemed dire.
"So Lunch?" May called out cheery and full of a smile.
They had grilled cheese, coca-cola, and Oreos to snack on. Ned didn't turn up, explaining vaguely his mother needed help.
This left Peter feeling displaced without his wingman. His best friend.
"So any plans for tonight?" May questioned,
"Probably movies, video gaming." This all sounded neat, and Ana didn't mind. She adored the thought of a break away from superpowers, unknown all things Stark and whatnot.
"That's if that's alright?" Peter wondered,
"As long as you got fps." Anastasia chuckled,
"Call of Duty? You're on!" And soon enough straight after lunch the two rushed to the living room to play on his PlayStation 4.
Aunt May was glad, Peter met someone. She found that Peter was withdrawing a lot and was becoming concerned about his well-being, but maybe now he was branching out. Improving.
And the childish crowds radiating from the living room such as,
"You cheated!" Ana shouted,
"Rematch!" All from Peter made May laugh and smile.
As the fifth round of playing shooting games ended, Peter spoke up.
"So I got movies I didn't know what you fancied so I got a horror movie, an action one, or a comedy one you chose."
Anastasia wasn't much for movies or such, but she did enjoy horrors and action-packed media. "Any favorites of the lot?"
"I got two, Back to the Future or Breakfast Club." The boy smiled
"Then we'll watch them both." Anastasia smiled, she was interested in a person to know Peter Parker.
"You sure?" Peter inquired,
"Parker, I want to get to know you if that means learning what you like." Peter could understand,
"Okay well Aunt May says bedroom off-limits, so we're sleeping in the living room."
"I can sleep down here, you sleep in your room." Anastasia reassured,
"No, it wouldn't be polite. Besides we can lie down and watch the movie, and if we fall asleep well pass nicely."
"Okay, fine." The two discussed snacks, books, superheroes, and music.
The day was drawing to a close, and the uneasy feeling she left with Tony still sat but she wanted to be with Peter. Her friend. The two teens drew up a blanket, snuggled in a fluffy black blanket and a pillow behind them.
Breakfast Club began playing.
"Have you seen this?" Peter quietly asked, as the curtains drawn, lights off.
"Once, you?" Ana replied in a whisper.
"Vaguely."
They watched intently ever so often and one of their hands reached for popcorn. "Now my favorite is Bender but they all are equally good." Ana pointed out,
"I can see why. He's cool, I'm like that nerdy kid." Peter remarked as he chuckled.
"No, you're cool Pete. Maybe nerdy but cool as well." Ana smiled at him, It was halfway through the film.
"You really think so?" Peter wondered as he held his gaze, looking directly at the screen.
"I know so." Ana nodded.
Soon the movie was finished, the iconic ending as Bender threw his fist in the air so did Anastasia. "Iconic." Peter watched as he was in awe of the girl.
Peter couldn't stop thing of his guilt, his secret. Peter knew exactly who this girl was but she didn't know him. For one thing, he really like this girl, he saw her every night and they bonded for hours. He danced and talked to her for hours, but he didn't tell her...
"Ana I got something I wanna say," Peter spoke up dryly. His secret, he would tell her. Scared, nervous, excited. Someone would know, she would know. Peter trusted Ana.
"Yes, Pete?" Ana looked at Peter with her eyes dewy.
"I don't want you to think of me differently, but I am s-" but he couldn't finish as Aunt May came to check on the pair.
"Everything good? More snacks?" May came in her voice in a hushed tone, Peter was flustered and he stood up.
"No, we're okay." Anastasia smiled, "Thanks." May nodded walking back to her room.
Peter looked dazed, the end credits still rolling, "Peter, you okay you've gone all pale."
Peter was fine, well for the most part. He looked at Ana, her beautiful smile and the way her eyes glistened against the light from the television. Peter admired her small quirks like when she bit her bottom lip when she was nervous or never looked at you properly when she lied.
"Yeah." But his voice was shaky,
Peter could never tell her, his heroic adventures, or his sentimental confession towards her. Scared she'd run, hide never talk to him again.
"You're not, Peter. You can't even look at me. You speak with that tone when it shakes when you're nervous about something." Anastasia analyzed reaching out to instinctively hold his hand but he retracted.
Walking a few steps back he bumped into the bookcase knocking over some china.
"Is it me, Pete? Do I make you uncomfortable?" Anastasia sighed heavily, she had no other intention but to be with the guy as a friend.
"I'll go if you want me to." Anastasia turned sharply on her heels but before she could step foot away from the situation Peter grabbed her wrist.
"No-" Peter spoke up, and Ana turned to meet his gaze. Fixated on each other for a moment he continued,
"- I just had some things on my mind. And I never had a friend, well one who's a girl and willing to be there for me. It's just a new change."
Anastasia could tell something more was on his mind but decided to not pester. For she could understand his distress, she felt a personal connection with Peter which made her happy.
"It's okay, Pete. I understand, I never had any friends, not one in my life. Until you and Ned, I was always lonely and not in the sense of having someone around well yes, but mentally alone. It's nice to share thoughts, opinions and talk about these things with someone."
Peter nodded, "Didn't you have your uncle?"
"He works a lot, I don't see him much." Anastasia reassured,
"Ana, can I ask you something, and If I am overstepping boundaries you can tell me to stop." Peter reached for her hand, holding it comfortingly in his, he led her to sit back down as they faced each other smiles on each other's faces.
Peter forgot about the secrets, and lies, and faced the reality that it'll be okay. Peter can wait,
"Sure."
"What about your parents?" This was not surprising, Ana knew he'd have to ask at some point whether it was now or never. But she never realized the opportunity would be so soon.
Anastasia hadn't really talked about it. And she was still trying to figure out the new information that came to light. Adoption.
Peter looked into her eyes and realized she was deep in thought with herself.
Her eyebrows knitted together, "Sorry I'm overstepping."
"No, it's just complicated that's all. You see my mother died, father deadbeat alcoholic, well-" She explained it, and as Anastasia explained leaving out the part of superheroes out, adoption and death arose, and the fact she lived with the billionaire man. And it was an explanation that felt like she was comfortable, free from weight.
It was different from Tony or Pepper, they were adults with problems to deal with. Telling Peter, a friend meant trust, no secrets, and a new level of friendship.
Something to cherish.
After the talk, Peter understood. Anastasia didn't want to dwell on the heartache of the past, Peter opened his mouth, "Yesterday was the past, tomorrow is the future, today is the present that's why it's a gift."
Anastasia looked baffles with a tight grin now on his face, eyes glistering. "Did you just quote Kung Fu Panda?"
"No, it was all me." He snickered cheekily.
"Liar, you're an idiot!". She threw a pillow at his face,
"Which am I? A liar or idiot you can't be both!" Peter tossed his pillow to her which she caught.
"I can too, because I am me, and I am awesome! I don't make the rules, because I am the rules, Parker" Anastasia smiled pointing her index finger to the boy grinning like a five-year-old.
"I can't tell if you're going to be the death of me or not." Peter laughed they tumbled to the floor as they began a battle of pillowed Witt's.
"That Parker is the million-dollar question. Fortunately for you, you can't get rid of me easily." Anastasia found her head fitted perfectly in the crook of his neck, fitted like a jigsaw puzzle piece.
Comfortably she laid to rest, radiating warm like a blanket. Peter was surprised, he widened his eyes tensing up at the sudden gesture. Slowly though when he realized it was okay, Peter relaxed embracing the moment with everything he had.
Butterflies in his stomach, his heart though beating slowly became comfortably smooth, his breathing no longer hitched.
"Now you are right, It's going to be hard." Peter smiled, Anastasia hummed in agreement. Slowly their eyes had closed for a moment drifting to a wonderful slumber.
