I can't believe it. I cannot believe it.

I never should've trusted Kite Maddox. I should've known he would've gone back to his old habits.

Oh my gosh. I'm still in shock.

"Dovey?" Lizzy asks me. I look down at her, and she's staring at me. I can see the fear in her eyes. I stop holding her hand and pick her up, hitching her around my waist.

"We're going home." I say, trying to sound gentle, even though my voice is hoarse from shouting.

I tuck her hair behind her ear, and then see we've reached our home. I storm up to the door as fast as I can while carrying Lizzy, and then knock on the door furiously. I watch as the door opens, and then Mum appears. She opens her mouth to speak, but I cut off.

"Explain to me why I find Lizzy on the side of the road, crying her eyes out in the middle of the park." I try to sound calm, but my voice is shaking. I leave our Kite's name, even though I want to rat him out so bad. But I didn't need to create more drama.

Mum's mouth drops open, and I enter the house, pushing past her, and locking the door behind me.

"I..I didn't know-"

"You didn't know you're own daughter was missing!" I raise my voice at her, because this is ridiculous. "You're daughter who's supposed to be confined to her house at all times?!"

"I don't know how she got out-"

"WHAT IS HAPPENING OVER HERE!" A booming voice echoes over Mum's voice.

Dad.

He storms over towards us, angry because we probably interrupted him working.

I repeat what I said to Mum, making sure I definitely don't shout because my dad will definitely get angry.

"How did this happen?" He narrows his eyes and stares at Mum. "I was upstairs the whole time working."

"I think I know." Mum whispers, shock etched in every word.

"I went out to throw the garbage. I thought Lizzy was in her room, having a nap because I told her to."

"So you don't bother checking on her?" I raise my voice again, because I am so shocked right now.

"I'm sorry." Mum lowers her head, clearly embarrassed and ashamed of herself.

"You're so lucky Dove was there. Imagine what would've happened to her if she wasn't?" Dad shouts.

I flinch. I'd rather not think about that. I take Lizzy upstairs, into my room. She's already fallen asleep against my shoulder, so I tuck her into my bed, just like I did last night.

I then exit my room, closing the door behind me. I'm lucky I have a soundproof room, because I can hear Mum and Dad shouting. I shake my head, not letting the tears come out. I walk as fast as I can towards the door, and run outside.

As I turn around to lock the door, I hear the sound of flesh on flesh. The sound of a slap. I peek my eyes through the door, and notice Mum sobbing on the floor, as Dad walks away.

No. This couldn't be happening. I lock the door as fast as I can, and then run. I run for my life. The tears stream down my face and fly away, because of the wind blowing against me as I run.

I keep on running, wiping my eyes angrily. I was scared. I was angry. I was upset. Not even at Kite anymore. I believed that he didn't know it was Lizzy. I mean, if I saw a child crying on the road, I would go help it as well, no matter who it was.

I feel guilty now. I shouted at him for no reason. Said words to him which I shouldn't have. Words which he's probable heard all his life. Words which have probably made him feel shitty as heck.

We have both been through hell. Living hell.

Oh my gosh.

I reach a grove of trees. I have no clue where I am, but I run behind one, and lean against it, breathing heavily. I pinch my skin at an attempt to stop my heavy breathing, but it doesn't stop. I continue gulping for air, tears streaming down my face in fresh waves.

"Hello?" Someone calls out. No. I wasn't dealing with people right now.

I hear the person walking around, and their footsteps crunching on the leaves get closer and closer. I keep my eyes open, and watch as the person turns around the corner and stands in front of me.

It's Kite. Of course it is.

I just stare at him in shock, trying to control my breathing, but obviously, I fail.

Kite's face is also tear-streaked, but it looks like it's been like that for a while. And I only see one or two tears.

"I'm so sorry." I gulp out, as more tears stream down my face.

I begin sobbing, and I can't stop myself. I could only think about what I saw at home, my own mother crying in the floor. She got slapped. My dad fricking slapped her.

"Dove." Kite says softly, and then pulls me towards him. He hugs me tightly, and that just makes me cry even harder than I knew possible. Why was he being nice to me? I was so rude to him, and yet he was willing to forgive me every single time. Oh my gosh.

I cry into his shoulder, feeling his strong arms wrap around me. I don't think anyone's ever held me like this before.

Eventually, the tears recede into me just sniffing into Kite's shoulder. I don't know how long we've been here for.

I finally break apart, looking at Kite, but he keeps his arms round my waist.

"You want to tell me what happened?" He says softly, and it's all I can do not to cry again.

"My dad slapped my mum for not taking care of Lizzy." I eventually whisper. I watch as a wave of guilt washes over Kite's face

"Is she okay?" He asks, taking his hands off my waist.

"My mum or Lizzy?"

"Both."

"Lizzy is asleep, and I don't know about my mum. I ran away." I choke out.

"So did I." Kite gives me a small smile.

"I am really sorry, Kite. I didn't mean what I said. I was just shocked." I whisper again, looking dead into his eyes so he knows I'm telling the truth.

"Thank you." He whispers back after a long pause.

"Your welcome." I smile at him. A proper genuine smile.

"How did you end up here?" Kite asks me, running a hand through his hair.

"I ran."

"All the way over here?" Kite exclaims.

"Where even are we?" I wipe my eyes, looking around.

"Bakerhill." Kite says.

"I ran into a whole different city?" I say in shock. Kite just nods at me. "And why are you here?"

"I wanted to escape. I decided to come here. It used to be my favourite spot." Kite says, looking away in the distance.

I take his hand and hold it with both of mine. The movement makes him look down, and then look at me. "Can we not argue anymore? I'm so tired of having to pretend I don't like you, when I secretly know I wouldn't mind being your friend." I finally say it. The truth.

"My pleasure." Kite nods at me, and then removes his hand from mine. "How do we get home?"

"Walk or bus?"

"Any."

"Let's walk." I say. I pull out my phone, and head to my Camera, and check my look.

I nearly gasp in horror. I look horrible. My face is blotched and my eyes are red.

Oh my gosh.

"You look fine." Kite says, reading my thoughts. "Nobody will notice anything.

I'm not convinced, but I sigh and pocket my phone anyway. I then begin to walk out from behind the tree, Kite behind me.

"I don't know where I am." I realise, and say it out loud.

"It's fine, I'll lead the way." Kite shrugs, walking next to me.

For the rest of the walk, me and Kite talk quietly about random things. Nothing too personal.

And then we arrive in Ashfield. I recognise the town immediately.

"Where are you going?" Kite asks me.

"Home."

"Me too." He nods. "Message me later."

I look up at him and I see he's dead serious. "I will." I smile at him, and he smiles back. I then begin to walk away, but I feel Kite's eyes on my back.

Wow. Plot twist of the century.

Never would've though I'd befriend the son of the family my family hate, but low and behold it happened.

And I don't care. I'm glad it happened. Nobody has ever comforted me like that. Or seen me like that, to be fair.

But he did. Even if he hated me for what I said to him, he still did.

Kite was such a kind person. Kind and caring. I can't believe I hated him just 3 hours ago.

Wow.

I finally reach my house. I enter, make sure I lock the door behind me, and then run up to my room.

I see that Lizzy is not here anymore, but I do see a note from my dad.

Lizzy is in her room sleeping, don't worry.

I pick up the note and throw it in the bin. I didn't need it, but it was a good reminder.

I then quickly change into my pajamas, and jump into bed. Gosh, it was all I needed.

Today had been a long day.
