Just Another Day (Back to the Plot!)

'Ight Imma try to get back to the plot

Keefe looked at Dex, forcing a grin off his face at the memory of the boy's lips on his before he was caught staring.  They hadn't kissed since even though they'd both decided that it'd be okay.  Keefe hoped they'd gain another excuse soon enough.

Dex looked up at him with a dimpled grin.  "You gonna skip class again?"

Keefe shrugged, taking a moment to admire the different shade's of periwinkle in the boy's eyes before saying, "Probably."

"When do you go to class?"  Linh questioned.

Keefe shrugged again for lack of a better idea of what to do.  He didn't exactly have a specific schedule... more of just a 'oh, I need to know what I should study next' kinda thing.  But he'd gotten bored over the weekend when Dex was busy so he read his books and did his homework for most of his classes in a single day.  Ro had laughed at him when his hand cramped.  At least he didn't have to sit in a boring class though!  And she should really be more grateful...

"Dexter, you need to get your boyfriend to class."  Fitz smirked.

Dex stuck out his tongue and moved to wrap his arms around the Empath's waist.  Keefe placed his hand's over the boy's as he swung them around a bit.  He grinned at the spark of joy he felt from the other.

"Dude, the Dexinator has no need to do that," Keefe said.

Biana groaned.  "You're gonna rub off on him."

Tam snorted before his sister elbowed his side.

"It's true!"  Keefe said in denial.  "Dexy here is perfectly capable of being responsible and knowing that I do not need to go to class - right, Dizznee?"

He looked back down at Dex who pretended to ponder the question.

"Oh, come on!"

Ro rolled her eyes from where she stood at the wall while Dex gave a small giggle.  Keefe couldn't tell who's heart had taken a leap.

"Okay, not that I don't support you two," Marella groaned, "but anymore Keefex and I might start gagging."

Keefe mimicked her like a toddler might as Dex mumbled, "Deefe is still a better name."

"Nah," Sophie replied, "I think you should both agree on Kex - if you were a gem fusion, that'd probably be your name."

Keefe raised his eyebrow, sure that the Technopath was doing the same.  "Gem fusion?"

"Is that a human thing?"  Dex questioned.

Sophie blushed.  It was hard to tell whether it was from the embarrassment of her forgetting they didn't understand her references (unless it was Batman, of course) or if it was from Biana subtly wrapping an arm around her waist.

Keefe shot a smirk at her.  Though it faded once he heard the chimes signaling that he was supposed to find something to do for two hours given the fact that Dex practically never skipped with him.

Dex let go of Keefe and moved to stand in front of him as the others began to give their way-to-long goodbyes.  "I'll see you at lunch."

Keefe bit his lip.  "Yeah."  He leaned down before he could back out.

Thankfully, Dex wasn't unfazed (if you could count a happy surprised feeling as unfazed) as he did the same.

The kiss was quick - nothing too intimate - but it still felt... nice.

Until Marella began to loudly gag.

"Later, Dizznee."  Keefe said, turning to walk away.  His hand lingered on Dex's.

"See you soon, Love."

Keefe stopped mid step, turning around to look back at the Technopath only to find him speeding off along with Sophie and Biana.

But... had he heard him right?  Love?

Keefe shook his head.  He was probably just over thinking it.  After all, they were supposed to be doing that, right?  Acting all coupley and calling each other cute names.

Ro walked up to him, snort giggling with a large hand over her mouth.  With a groan, Keefe continued walking down the hall, hoping to get rid of her in the crowd before she could comment on how his 'pulse suddenly kicked up to a billion beats per second' and how he'd 'probably have a heart attack on the spot'.

"And I thought I've seen you two flustered before."  Her laughing got louder as Keefe's face became more deadpanned.  "That was almost more tension then the two of you at the dance-" she wiped her eye- "and that had the two of you going crazy.  Oh my, Lord Hunkyhair."

Keefe sighed.  "It's just that we haven't ever acted like this - to anyone - in front of people."

"Yeah, uh, keep telling yourself that."

He ignored her.  "And Biana and Sophie still haven't really come out yet, so it's kind of like we're the only couple in our friend group - and we're one of the only same-sex couples in the whole school.  There's pressure on us... and we aren't even a real couple!"  He'd whispered the last part despite the fact that by that time they'd rounded a corner to where there were no prodigies.

Ro looked like she wanted to argue, but she didn't.  Weird.

Either way, Keefe was grateful the ogre princess was no longer trying to get his hopes up.  He knew Dex got flustered easily - he always had and probably always would.  So, really, it made no sense to start thinking that Dex returned any sort of feelings.

But still... he had a little bit of hope.
