Detention

"Hello, students." Lady Belva greeted, standing up from the desk set at the far end of the room.

"Hello, Lady Belva," Keefe, Dex, and all the other prodigies responded.

Keefe looked at the back of Dex's head from where he sat at the desk behind him. If he was lucky and the teacher gave them a study hall, he could draw Dex with different colored hair for... prank reasons. Not because he thought the strawberry blond would look simply adorable with pink hair.

However, as usual, he was very unlucky when it came to Lady Belva.

"Today, students," she said slowly, "we will be ballroom dancing."

Everyone erupted with groans before she silenced them. She'd already done this once before for a detention - why was she doing it again?

Keefe wanted to kill her as she spoke. "Now, those of you who've had me before know that I believe today's youth haven't all been taught the-" she cleared her throat- "proper ways of the world. Let alone finding and conversing with your match." She glanced to Keefe and Dex as she said this.

Dex was probably rolling his eyes right then, his face rested in his palm and the fingers of his opposite hand gently drummed on the table. Or maybe, he was giving the mentor some sort of death glare as a warning. Perhaps though, he was doing neither of those things and was just casually watching her as she walked around the room like a tiger in a field of mice.

"Everyone stand!" She demanded.

Keefe, with great effort, pushed himself off his desk and into a standing position already dreading what was to come. She'd probably pair herself with him and give Dex some weird girl. Or maybe she'd give him one of the drooly boys who'd gotten detention with them in some vain attempt to humiliate him.

Well if that was the case the joke was on her because Keefe had already humiliated Dex when he started the whole mess so ha!

Lady Belva began putting students together. Some girl with golden hair and a boy who looked awestruck by her. A brunette with a blond. Thankfully, one of the drooly boys with a very unlucky girl. And so on, and so on until she finally made it to their side of the room.

There were only three people left because Keefe Sencen was just the luckiest boy in the world: Dex, himself, and, it seemed, a drooly girl.

"Hm." Lady Belva said, staring at the three. I suppose one of you will have to dance with me.

Keefe waited for her to take him and leave Dex and the girl. "Dexter, why don't you dance with me and Keefe you can dance with Lindsey."

Dex's head snapped towards Keefe with a pleading look before Lady Belva grabbed his hands, showing him where they were supposed to go and the music started.

She must have started it with telekinesis, Keefe realized as he felt the girl place her hands on him.

Lindsey... was not his first choice of people do he dancing with, but he was more concerned about his 'boyfriend' who was probably having to do some sort of intricate version of a ballroom dance he didn't know how to do yet because that's just how the Dizznees were and oh no what if he was getting lectured already and would have to spend another day in detention because he couldn't do it right?

Keefe looked to his side for a brief moment, prepared to swoop in and save his boy. However, Dex was not belong lectured. Nor was he doing some intricate dance. He didn't even look too uncomfortable as he lead Lady Belva.

Keefe felt a weird pang if jealousy shoot through him before something stomped on his foot and he was forced to turn back around.

This was going to be a long detention.

。。。

"So," Keefe started as he and Dex left the detention room. They'd both packed up as fast as they could manage the second the warning bell had rang. "Uh, how'd you like detention?"

Dex shrugged. "I dunno. I'm uncomfortable now." He'd said the last part with a bit of a chuckle as though he were trying to play it off.

Keefe gently took a hold of his hand. "Me too - and not because I had to dance with Lindsey The Drooler."

Dex snorted. "She was all over you, dude."

"I know," Keefe said. He faked a shiver to prove his point, smiling when he saw Dex give a tiny grin.

"At least we have p.e. next. We're sort of together then, right?" Dex squeezed his hand.

"Yeah. let's just hope we can avoid Lady Lindsey Drool."
