Assert Dominance
Keefe's knee bounced up and down up and down up and down up and down up and down up and down as he held a thick cloth to his nose, Elwin flashing a bright orb around him again.
"Nothing's broken!" The doctor assured him for what felt like the hundredth time. "But, there's probably gonna be some wicked bruising." The sound of the physician gliding away in his rolling chair filled the otherwise quiet room for a moment, followed by the sound of a few bottles hitting each other.
Keefe couldn't bring himself to look back up at the doctor. He couldn't stop thinking about that boy. Seriously, who did he think he was? It's not like he was all that cute - especially compared to Keefe. Plus, Dex was way out of his league. Not everyone saw it - how Dex was the perfect person - but Keefe did. And there was no way that guy could even begin to understand. For crying out loud he'd talked to Dex for less than an hour! Keefe had known the Technopath for years!
"Keefe?" Elwin's hand moved to where the boy's eyesight was to pull him out of his thoughts and force him to stop staring at his blood stained shoes.
"Sorry - yeah?" Keefe asked, looking up to be met with a bottle of Bruise Cruse being thrust towards his face.
He took the offering as Elwin gave a smile and pointed towards a mirror he had next to his desk. "Why don't you go put some of that on the rhinion, supraalar crease, tip, and nasion parts of your nose?"
"I only understood one of those words."
Elwin snorted and began pointing to certain parts of his nose, naming what they were before Keefe walked over to the mirror and began applying the yellowish sludge on his nose with a sigh. Out of the corner of the mirror he could see Elwin open a freezer of sorts and pull out an icepack. Great. Now not only was he the embarrassment of the class and his fake boyfriend, he was also going to be the embarrassment of the century.
What a blessed life he lived.
Once he decided he was both done rubbing in the sludge and stalling, the Empath pulled away from the mirror and turned around to take the ice from Elwin's hands. Keefe put it on his nose before he could be told to. Might as well save a bit of time, no?
Elwin let his hands hit his knees with a 'slap'. The room was honestly way too quiet. "I guess that's it, bud. Just head back to class and see who wins."
Keefe's eyes traveled to the gateway to his personal hell for a moment. "Do I have to?" He questioned. "I mean, how long is left in this period anyways?"
"Not too horrifically long. About an hour or so?"
Keefe groaned only to receive a snicker from the other as a response. "Can't I just stay here?"
The physician sighed. "Afraid not, dude. I have to clean. And I don't think you're father will be happy with you if you skip again either, if that's what your next plan was."
... It was Keefe's next plan, admittedly. If only the stupid doctor couldn't've reminded him of 'Daddy Dearest' It was weird. Ever since his father had joined the Black Swan the one class he was absolutely infuriated at Keefe for missing was physical education. Probably because the old man wanted his son to be able to protect himself... or at least look like he could. Knowing him with appearances and all.
"Fiiiiiine." Keefe gave in after a few moments. He dragged his feet across the tiled floor towards the door. "But if I accidentally get hurt again I had nothing to do with it."
"Why but of course." Elwin replied sarcastically as Keefe slowly tugged the door open. "But please try not to get hurt. With you and Sophie I hardly ever get to give this place a nice deep cleaning. Plus, I'm sure that there's a certain strawberry blond awaiting your arrival."
The Empath waved his hand at the other in a dismissal way before letting the door fall shut behind him. It was time to go and face the humiliation of looking Dex in the eyes after his latest - and first, if he may say - mess up as a fake boyfriend.
.-.
"Keefe!" Sophie called, of course being the first to see him out of the group and making her way over to him immediately, leaving the other's behind.
Keefe wasn't the first to see her though. The first person his eyes traced themselves to was that boy. Who was stood next to his Dex conversationing with him with a sly smirk on his dumb face.
Either way, Keefe offered one of his usual smiles at the blonde. "Hey, Foster. What'd I miss?"
"Nothing much. Just that we ended up losing right after you. Everyone else is still up though." Her smile turned sympathetic as she caught sight of the ice he was holding on his nose. "You gonna be okay?"
"Aw, is Foster worried?" Keefe teased. "I'm a big boy, remember, mommy? Elwin just said it'd leave a small bruise."
Sophie rolled her eyes as her emotions waffed through the air. Not surprisingly, the girl was still worried and didn't totally buy his act.
"Seriously, I'm fine." Keefe promised. "Who's, ah - who's that though?"
Sophie's eyes followed his to the one standing next to Dex who was thankfully looking at Keefe with a grateful dimpled grin. "Oh, Dex wanted to introduce you two. Come on!"
Hesitantly, he followed her across the bleachers to where their group was stood at the opposite end. They couldn't have waited for his return by the door? What if he was seriously injured and couldn't have had made it to them?
"Babe!" Dex said in a tone that almost made it sound like he was thankful Keefe was simply alive once the Empath had made his way over with Sophie.
Keefe happily held out his arms to greet the other, immediately wrapping a hand around his waist once they'd hugged to hold him by his side when he looked at that boy. He'd show him.
"Keefe," Dex began, "this is Sionn. He just transferred with the others from Exillium. Sionn, this is Keefe, my boyfriend."
Keefe offered a confident smirk as he shook Sionn's offered hand. He gave it a firm shake with a strong hold. For once, he agreed with his father about asserting dominance.
"Hi." Sionn said with a smile, acting as if he were unfazed. "Dex was just talking about you. I'm sorry about your - uh - face, by the way."
"It's all good. It doesn't really hurt." Keefe said, suddenly wishing he wasn't still holding an ice pack.
Dex let out a small giggle. "You gotta admit though, it was kind of an epic crash."
"He's not wrong." Biana smirked. "It was quite graceful."
"Yeah," Marella joined in from where she sat on the bleachers, redoing one of her braids. "What were you staring at by the way?" The way she had her head tilted towards him suggested that she already knew.
Keefe was about to snap her off with a joke before Dex spoke again. "Yeah, what were you staring at? You looked kinda zoned out on my face or something."
His mind raced for a good comeback before a certain someone cut him off. "He was probably entrapped by your beauty."
Dex's emotions surged with a strong heat of embarrassment for a moment as a pink color rose to his cheeks. He scratched the back of his head anxiously. "Actually, he was probably thinking about how he was going to beat me and my jumpball power."
Keefe needed to re-remind this guy who was boss here. He let the hand holding the ice drop and turned his head so that his mouth aligned with Dex's ear. But he made sure to speak loud enough so that Sionn could hear. "Nah, just thinking about our future together."
The Technopath turned his head to stare at Keefe, giving the former the perfect chance to lean in and give him a kiss. He tried to make it last a bit longer than their usual pecks, however by the time five or so seconds had passed, Dex pulled his head away. Both of them were confused, but for different reasons.
Dex was confused for what Keefe could only assume was because that kiss had lasted longer than any other they'd ever shared. Not to mention they were in the least romantic spot ever. Meanwhile, Keefe was confused because of the way Dex had his eyebrow raised. Plus the fact that he'd pulled away.
Someone loudly coughed, reminding them that they were with a group.
Keefe cleared his throat. "Why don't we all sit down and see who wins this thing?"
