52 : Birthright

"I answered your call, the least you could do is have the decency to show yourself," the boy said with crossed arms and bored eyes. However, he watched the shadows cautiously, seeking out any sort of movement. When nothing happened, he continued to speak with a slight drawl to his voice. "I don't typically discuss negotiations with my enemy, but I'm curious as to what you have to say."

He could feel the heavy presence within the room. He glanced at a lone camera to the side, its light was red, he was being watched. His eyes flicked back to the shadows where he knew the being was. Even though the Security Breach was quite powerful itself, the being that was in the vicinity made him feel small, infuriatingly small. He was losing his grip, his fingers tightened, if he lets go of his calm, his grip won't be the only thing he'd lose. He took a deep breath and opened his mouth to speak, but a purring voice interrupted him.

"Oh please, we both know that you're getting desperate, little one," said the voice with a mocking chuckle. Gregory's eye twitched at the pet name, but he said nothing, his young face was a complete blank slate. "Your human is slowly slipping from your grasp, and you would do anything to prevent that. In fact, her and that bear are speaking of escaping right now."

"I'm aware of such," Gregory huffed. In fact, he could hear their conversation in the back of his head like it was background noise. Freddy's words of comfort and encouragement sent a thrilling feeling of disgust through him as the bear spoke to (y/n). But he doesn't feel threatened over their schemes, he'll squash their plan before it was even set in motion, fitting for the hopeless thing it was. "However, that is my own business, virus, what is the real reason you called for me? Or have you simply decided to use your precious time to taunt me? I hate to break it to you, but your little jabs mean nothing in the grand scheme."

"The grand scheme?" The voice laughed loudly and mockingly from the shadows. Gregory heard the slow steps before the being revealed themselves from the shadows, the first thing he saw was glowing green eyes like deranged neon lights. It was Vanessa, her skin was deathly pale, her gaze dull and thoughtless. She was being used as a puppet again, that virus's puppet. She kicked something nonchalantly and it slid across the floor, it was the decapitated head of a bot. Gregory stood his ground with a frown on his face, staring up at the vessel, his golden eyes were cautious, watching her every move closely. The vessel leaned in with a deadly smile. "The grand scheme? I hate to break it to you, little one, but you are not untouchable."

Gregory remained unphased, he even took a step towards the puppet, his eyes dark with calm hatred. Although his icy tone remained casual, there was a hint of spiteful bitterness, "neither are you."

The vessel smiled a sneering sort of smile.

"Look at you, so young and confident, but it's naive for you to think you have the advantage on me, little spider," the vessel croons quietly as she shook her head stiffly with a crooked smile on her rosy lips before she leaned back and crossed her arms, staring at him with those wild green eyes. "This is not some game you can play and win, boy, this is war."

Gregory eyebrow slightly raised. Vanessa scoffed, that unsettling smile on her face was unchanging. "What? You think you're suddenly the big fish in the pond because you have a stony face and a few units of bots under your belt?"

Vanessa laughed before her face twitched into a cold and twisted expression, and Gregory knew that the security guard was lost in the haze of the virus, there was no human left in the puppet, "we are not equal, little spider, the most you can do is slow me down. Although, I have to admit your little tricks and schemes are quite clever, they won't stop me."

"...Just you wait, the more you underestimate me, the sooner I will obliterate you," Gregory hissed, baring his teeth at the vessel. His cold calmness slowly left him the more and more the virus spoke, and a terrific, seething anger replaced it. It was an anger that followed him like a shadow wherever he went, and when it finally reared its ugly head, destruction was sure to accompany it. His voice slightly raised, the most it ever did this entire night. "I won't let you even lay a hand on her!"

"Ah, so that's who this is all about," the virus said calmly like it just found out, but Gregory knew that the virus was aware of his obsession from the moment he laid eyes on her. The vessel shook her head with a click of her tongue and a mocking pout. "You're not even at your prime, dear boy,  you are weak without remnant. So what makes you think you can stop me from taking back what belongs to me?"

Vanessa abruptly grabbed him by the chin, her hand was cold like she was deceased. His golden eyes stared into her glowing, green ones. The cold tension in the room tightened as the two opposers stared at each other. "You're hungry, little spider, and there is a fly trapped in your web, but you refuse to eat that delicious fly because you love her deeply. Tragic, isn't it?"

Those eyes, Gregory thought as his teeth gritted together, those eyes are hypnotizing. Maybe he could've bit her hand off, maybe he could have said something threatening to drive her away from him, but he could only stand there moronically, staring into the puppets' corrupted eyes. He didn't believe in monsters, the idea was laughable, even, but when looking into those deranged eyes, he saw an evil creature, a creature that none other than humans have created themselves. A monster he very well could be if his circumstances were the same.

"Fortunately for you, I'm a gracious person, and I have a deal for you that would be wise to not reject," the virus said as the cold and deathly hand slowly slipped off of Gregory's face. She reached into her coat pocket and pulled something out, Gregory felt the strange buzz before he even saw it. In her hand was a small, black chip, the boy's eyes widened. Gregory knew what it was since he laid his eyes on it, it was a Mind Control-Frequency chip. MCF. His missing half. His birthright.

"I know you know what this is," the puppet whispered to him in it's awfully convincing and persuasive voice.  The vessel held it out for him to grab, and he slowly grabbed it like he was in a trance. The virus chuckled at his subdued reaction. He looked like a child given candy for the first time, a man who knew nothing but thirst all of his life given water.

"The deal I'm proposing to you is that we work together, little spider, me and you," she said as she paced around the grimy room, circling him. "We both have the same goals, and you have the potential to be very powerful, like me. If you agree, there's a lot more of these where that came from..."

She gestured towards the chip in his hand, grinning at him all the while. "But... if you reject it, well, you can continue to play your little games, while I win my wars."

Gregory slowly pocketed the chip before his golden eyes flicked back up to the human puppet, there was a sharp suspicion in his gaze. Work together? Now that was entirely unexpected, the virus never struck him as the type to collaborate with the enemy. There had to be some sort of catch to this, some sort of plot hidden in between the lines.

"Now, I'll have to warn you beforehand," said the puppet eventually. "Living things such as humans are much harder to control than machines. Humans like to... defy your commands, thus you have to break them into obedience, while the machines you are used to are programmed to obey orders. When it comes to fleshy beings, the chip can create the connection between host and virus, but you have to do the rest."

The puppet stiffly smiled at him, but Gregory's eyes were watching her pale hands that were shaking and clenching violently, her long nails digging into the flesh of her palm. He saw red blood dripping onto the floor in splatters. He realized that this was what the virus was referring to, Vanessa's consciousness was fighting for control. His eyes landed on the shakily smiling vessel's face.

"But I will allow you to try your influence on a human, it's a lot different from the brainless machines you are used to controlling," said the virus with a strained chuckle. "I'll even let you control my precious Vanessa for as long as you can. But remember that you are without remnant, thus your connection will not be strong."

As soon as the puppet was done speaking, she smiled at him encouragingly, before she was violently forced onto her knees. Gregory took a surprised step back as he watched the puppet suddenly writhe on the ground in agony. He saw blood begin to leak from her nose as she fought for control over her own mind, harsh breathing filled the room as the human looked like she was trying to scream but she was silenced. Vanessa felt like her very brain was being ripped open, and the gash grew larger and larger. A gurgling sound was all she could muster as she choked over her own blood.

"G-Go on, take control of her! She already has a chip implanted in her brain!" Stuttered the vessel as she still shakily smiled at him, blood dripping onto her lips, gums, and teeth. She looked deranged, like some sort of animal. She looked like she was in agony, like she was being split apart, yet she grinned at him with blood dripping down her chin. She then yelled at him with wheezy, nervous laughter, "what are you waiting for!?"

Gregory hesitated in place as he watched the human shake and crumble against the ground, she was having a seizure. He took a step towards her writhing form and gently put a cold hand against her forehead. Her trembling immediately stopped when contact was made, the blood dripping from her nose slowly ceased. She stared up at him with blank and dumb eyes, they were the color of faded sea glass. He slowly numbed the pain that previously jolted through her entire body like she was struck by lightning. Right at that very moment, he felt pity for the human, a pity he rarely felt for her species, but taking her pain away was the most he could do for her.

Vanessa was finally breathing normally, her heart beating a normal rate. The feeling that enveloped her was different from what she was used to. While the virus felt like a small cage that got smaller and more painful the more she resisted, the Security Breach felt like she was wrapped up tightly with invisible ropes, strangling her in place. She quite literally felt like a spider was wrapping silk around her, her limbs going numb like she was poisoned. His cold hand slid off of her forehead. A great deal of exhaustion came over her, as if he was the one keeping her awake all this time, she yet felt like she woken up from a long dream. She collapsed to the ground, and everything melted into shadow.

"...I do not condone suffering unless it is absolutely necessary," the boy said robotically after a long moment of pregnant silence, his cold eyes turned towards the camera that blinked with the red light. He could tell the virus was angry with him, but he heard nothing from the other being other than grizzly static. That was until it started laughing at him, laughing hysterically through the camera's staticy speaker.

"Aww, a monster with a heart! Isn't that just wonderful?!" He heard the virus say between violent bouts of laughter, but the boy could tell it was furious. Gregory's eyebrows furrowed as he glared at the camera lens, he stepped in front of Vanessa's unconscious body as if to protect her from the virus's wrath. But the being just giggled maniacally like the boy just performed a comedy act. "You... you're a joke! You claim you hate humans, yet... yet you act like an absolute idiot when one gets hurt!"

"...I reject your offer," Gregory said with finality, ignoring the virus's stinging jabs, the virus continued to laugh and laugh. He knelt over Vanessa before sliding his hands below her and picking her up with ease. It looked strange, a child carrying an adult effortlessly, but Gregory simply glared at the camera with burning eyes, uncaring of how he seemed or the manner in which he angered the virus. "I do things my own way, not yours."

He turned and carried the limp woman with him to the doorway. He suddenly looked back towards the camera, his golden eyes leering, he wanted to add in one last word of departure. "By the way, I don't hate humans, you do. That's the difference between us. Sure, they all make terrible mistakes, but they are like naughty, little children. And with enough time, they will learn."

The virus abruptly stopped laughing as it spitefully watched Gregory leave, Vanessa bonelessly limp in his arms as he carried her out with him. Presumably to put her somewhere safe from the torment, and also as a way to detain her to keep her from interfering with his plans. Perhaps the little spider would poison her asleep for as long as he could. Either way, the boy was dragging her away from her master, but the virus wasn't worried for her wellbeing, she'll come back when she will be of use, she always does because she'll die if she doesn't.

Even though she was the virus's precious puppet, its human limb that was cut off, the virus wasn't worried. She would regrow in no time, she will come back as soon as she awakes from her sweet little dream. The virus let the Security Breach go, for now it will. It thought back on what the boy said before he left, how he'll make humans learn, and it disagreed. The virus quietly chuckled, no humans are not the only ones who will be learning, the Security Breach will be the one to learn. It will soon learn that what the virus gives, it thought of that little girl it trapped here, what the virus gives it can easily take away.

You're such a hypocrite, little spider, thought the virus with bitter amusement. You think you are so righteous and merciful when you are just as broken and deranged as the rest of us. Many believe that you are here to stop me, to destroy me, even you yourself believed so once upon a time. But you are really here to learn from me, to have a web as big as mine. You are here to be like me, no, to be me. You want to take my place on this pedestal, this throne of little flies because it was your true birthright all along, isn't it?

My motivations come and go lol
Almost done though, can't when it's over this big messy masterpiece!
