50 : Burning Embers
"And the monster crawls back into his little cave..." the boy breathed out, that cold grin on his lips remained. They were in front of Gator Golf, the faintest sound of rock music echoed in her head but an eerie feeling made the hairs on her neck raise. Destroy Monty, the boy said, destroy him so that she can fix Freddy. She wanted that, didn't she? He asked. She didn't want to cause anymore destruction, she didn't want to involve herself anymore, but there was a part of her that felt guilty. It was her fault that Freddy was attacked, it was only fair she did him this favor. Like her parents always said, clean your own mess. This mess was hers, and it was one that overwhelmed her to no end, but she had to fix it.
Her first task, lure out Monty. If he takes the bait, Gregory will do something that will make Monty's deactivation swift and thoughtless. But it was harder than it seemed, what will she do without getting caught? The boy instructed her to lead him to the catwalks. Just what the boy will do eluded her, he seemed sadistically excited about it judging by the venomous glint in his eyes. She just hoped that it would be as swift as he said it would be.
Well, she didn't have much of a choice. She backed herself into a corner that she built herself, her guilty conscience leading her by the rope. Gregory knew this, and he soon got his hands on the reins of her heart, pulling her in every direction like a string puppet. It was only a matter of time now until this was all over. Whether or not it was the happy ending she wanted didn't matter to them, besides, happy endings don't happen here. The only thing she could hope for was it to be over. Her wishful thinking told her that it would be over if she does this one task, but that was too good to be true.
They entered through a side entrance instead of the front, a surprise tactic to give them time to set up the main plan. She carefully walked up the metal steps to the catwalks, leaving Gregory to his own devices. She felt a trembling in the calves of her legs, her thoughts spinning in her head like a carousel. With a final step, she was on one of the stretching catwalks, she was on top of the vast expanse that was Gator Golf, Monty's territory. When she looked down, her head spun with anxiety. Below her was like a plastic jungle, fake palm trees and snaking vines layered the place into a green haze, animatronic alligators jumped out from green water with a deathly growl, she felt her skin crawl.
In her observation of the vast, faux jungle, wild vermillion eyes observed her from above. His black claws dug into the rough plastic of the alligator-shaped lift. When he stared at her small form, manic thoughts filled his head, a desperation unfamiliar to him, a darkness unfamiliar to him. He quickly released the metal railing and let himself free fall to her level. With a resounding echo, his metallic feet hit the catwalk, making it tremble. He grinned a feral grin at her, revealing all of his sharp teeth. She turned around and stared at him with wide eyes, her feet automatically pulling her back from him.
"Hey, sweetheart," Monty chuckled roughly, he took a booming step forward. The girl's hands flew towards the railing as she held herself steady, continuing to back up from him. Monty followed after her with a deadly smile, "you know that you're not supposed to be up here, don't ya?"
She didn't respond to him, she only stared at him dumbly in shock and fear. Every step he took forward shook the metal beneath her feet, his figure loomed in the darkness, his fiery optics glowed menacingly. His smile gleamed until he saw her start to flee from him and then he snarled, his rough voice cracking with a tone of subtle desperation, "there's no reason to be scared of me, I ain't gonna hurt you! I'm just gonna help you down, that's all!"
She turned and ran, and he gave chase with a booming yell, his voice a deep growl. She heard his footsteps slamming behind her, the metal ground beneath her shook violently with every footfall. Her heart raced as she twisted through the catwalks as fast as she could, she heard his claws swipe behind her as he tried to grab her, they scraped gruesomely against the metal as he pursued her like a feral animal, leaving a flurry of scratch marks behind. She managed to dodge him for long enough, but the rails were only long enough for her to outrun him for only a limited time. And soon, she was backed into a corner. Her back hit the metal railing, she saw Monty step towards her threateningly, she whimpered as she saw she was trapped, Monty loomed before her in the darkness, vermillion eyes glowing maniacally. But instead of pouncing towards her, he only broke out in wild hysterics, laughing to himself in a somber tone of desperation.
"Why are you kids so scared of me? I only ever wanted to be as great as them but everyone runs away from me!" He yelled in a tone that made her flinch. The gators eyes were bright and intimidating in the darkness, they glowed like igniting embers. "How is that fair? I even destroyed that rabbit to get where I am, but I feel like nothing's changed! I played their game, I did everything they said, and I've gotten nowhere! Hell, it's even worse than before!"
He laughed hysterically to himself, but to the girl, it sounded more of a angry sob. But as soon as it started, he reverted back, a snarl appearing on his face, his pointy teeth glinting sharply. "You tell no one what I did, little girl! I'll be ruined...You wouldn't want to do that to me, would you?"
She quickly shook her head, and he seemed to relax a little, his shoulders deflating as he started to laugh to himself again, continuing his crazed musings of regret and torment. "You probably think I'm a monster. But if I could take it back, I would! I dream of going back to the way it was! Monsters don't think like that, do they? I'm not lying about this, I lie about a lot of things, but I would never lie about this! I don't care if I'm kicked back into the shadows, I just want to be out of the spotlight!"
The girl listened to his wild ramblings as he continued endlessly about how he regretted his decisions. She felt sorry for him despite the awful things he just admitted to doing, but she didn't know what to say, she was sure he would snap out of it and attack her. Nervousness spread in her when she saw that Monty was growing more and more unstable as the minutes passed by, he started punching and yelling. There was the sound of something flying above them and smacking against the wall, she looked up and saw a large bucket that was conveniently on top of Monty. It was just about tipped over, slowly being filled up with plastic balls, she didn't even realize it was directly above them till this moment.
She watched in dream-like horror as a plastic ball hit the target above it and the bucket was soon completely filled up, it began to tip over at a fast pace, heading straight towards the animatronic and the girl. Despite being beneath it, Monty's reaction time was wickedly fast. He quickly gripped the rim of the bucket with powerful strength, he held it for a few moments with a growl before he began to buckle under its colossal weight. The catwalks cracked and snapped beneath the girl and the animatronic due to the tremendous weight. The girl began to scream as they both began to fall. She cried out as she slid off of the catwalks, she tried to grab anything to save herself but nothing was there. She heard a snap near her as Monty hit a protruding metal railing, and she could only close her eyes in terrors. In seconds, she hit the ground with a resounding thud, right onto her tender shoulder.
Pain lit up the arm she landed on, and she cried out in pain as tears filled her eyes. She held her arm as she curled up into herself, she could practically feel the bruises and cuts burning on her skin like brands. When the pain began to slowly subside, she looked up only to be met with the crushed face of Month staring at her with flickering, vermillion eyes. There were sharp teeth and metal bits sprawled out on the floor, and she could see his endoskeleton beneath the plastic shell. She yelped before sliding back. Monty's face twitched wildly, his eyes dumbly rolling in all directions, words crackled from his voicebox, his final sentient words, coming from a tormented mind full of dreams and regrets.
"You c-can tell that... rabbit to have his g-g-guitar back. Heh... I won't be needing it-it anymore," the animatronic wheezed out with a harsh laugh, the girl stared into his flickering eyes until they finally faded out like dying embers. She felt pity for him, not for the things he's done, but for the person he's become because of the things he's done. He was paranoid, angry, and lost, those types of people were victims to the most manipulation. She was sure she was no exception.
Quiet footsteps sauntered behind her, his golden eyes coldly observed the mutilated body of Monty with empty calculation. He turned towards her and smiled at her, it was a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes, "you did a good job, I admire your bravery."
She felt her skin crawl at the sight of that smile she used to trust with all of her heart, it was a smile that spoke of safety and peril all at once, one could never be too sure which one he chose. Gregory quickly stepped around her and towards the deactivated animatronic and ducked down to observe the damage. With a terrible snapping sound, he removed Monty's claws. It was a shuddering sight to see the gator's claws pop off like the detachable limbs of a doll. He then ripped open Monty's head and jaw and snatched the chip with quick succession after a moment of digging through important wires and hardware that sizzled and melted. He stared at the chip with a satisfied smile before pocketing it and turning around to face her.
"You've sustained injuries, I'm sorry, (y/n)," he said with dark eyes as he observed her for a moment. His fingers gently touched her arm, and a glacial coldness traveled through her muscles, a stark contrast to the burning pain of the bruise. She hissed in pain before pulling away from his cold touch, he softly frowned at her.
"I know a thing that humans do to make wounds feel better, may I?" He asked before stepping closer, she stared up at him warily as she cradled her arm. Though he was not much taller than her, it felt like he was towering over her, his golden eyes piercing right through her, making her knees feel weak. She's sure she knows how his enemies feel whenever those golden eyes are pinned on them, it's a feeling akin to being picked inside out. She warily stared at him before hesitantly nodding, he cocked his head slightly to the side before leaning down. He gently lifted the sleeve of her shirt to show the nasty bruise beginning to form on her shoulder, and she felt a shock run down her arm when cold lips lightly pressed against her shoulder.
As quick as it happened, it was over. She released a breath she didn't know she was holding as she felt a coldness spread on her skin. It didn't exactly make her feel better, but it shocked her enough to forget the ache in her shoulder. Her parents were the only ones who did such a thing, so for someone like Gregory to kiss her bruise was strange. She put a figure to where his soft lips touched her shoulder, he left a cold marking behind. But before she could even question him, he was already stepping past her.
"Now, we don't have much time. Let's go find our next target," he said with a beckon as he was already making his way out of Gator Golf with a sense of urgency. (Y/n) stood still, cradling her arm as she continued to stare down at Monty with sad eyes. The fall completely mutilated him, the lower part of his body was ripped off, and all that remained was a mess of wires and black oil that pooled on the ground. She thought back to what he said, he killed Bonnie yet he regretted it. He wanted children to love him but he always chased them away instead. He claimed he wouldn't hurt her, but what if it was all a ploy?
"...Can robots lie?" She asked out of the blue, she wasn't sure herself where the question came from. She heard Gregory's footsteps halt behind her. He slowly tilted his head, his golden eyes watching her, glowing in the shade of the plastic palm trees. They watched her with spite as she pitied the destroyed animatronic.
"Of course," he whispered, his voice had a sharp edge to it, like he knew what she would say next. "What makes you believe they can't?"
...The lies he feeds you, A little voice whispered in her head from a distant dream. She turned around and stared at him with dry eyes, her voice innocent despite the accusing question she would ask next, "so, you can lie too?"
There was a hanging silence in the air, a dreadful tension that clung to your bones. His face was a blank slate, completely devoid of emotion, but his eyes were smoldering with suspicion like reignited embers. He slightly tilted his head, humming as he chose his next words carefully, "sure I can, if I couldn't, I would fail in my goal to be completely human."
"And how many times have you lied to me?" She abruptly said louder than before, almost interrupting him. There was a sudden boldness to her, a bravery that pushed her to challenge the very spider of the web she was caught in. Gregory blinked at her owlishly, but other than that, there was no reaction to her abrupt outburst. He said nothing for a few short moments, the silence ringing in her ears, and the only sound between them was the sizzling of Monty's wires behind them.
"That's for you to decide. My truth is very different from yours, (y/n), our... views on the world are vastly different, we are vastly different," he said in a quiet and resigned tone. He didn't raise his voice like she expected him to do, which she personally would've preferred over the somber tone he possessed. Their disagreements seemed to be adding up to one another, and the boy seemed to come to terms with the fact that she was inching away from him as discreetly as she could. But he will not let go, like a rabbit caught in a bear trap, she would have to rip off her own legs to detach herself from him.
He shook his head when she didn't respond, his voice toneless and he sounded exhausted, a mind that is much too old for the body it inhabits. "Nevermind this, come with me (y/n,) we shouldn't stay in the same place too long."
She heard his quiet footsteps retreat, she looked at Monty one last time, a gentle frown remained on her face as she gazed upon the carnage. Then she turned around and followed the boy out of Gator Golf, Monty's corporate-owned casket and Bonnie's crime scene. A cemetery of lies, and Gregory's will not be the last.
_______________
The parents watched Amber place a glinting handgun in a protective sheath. There was a frown on his face as he quickly placed it in the glovebox of the vehicle and started the engine. The car purred to life. The parents got inside soon after, there was a slam of a car door, and the vehicle soon entered the road. It was 4 AM, the parents questioned him about why they didn't leave earlier, but he explained how the Pizzaplex was heavily guarded at night. Amber knew the place opened by 6 AM. It was time to save a girl. He just hoped they weren't too late. He prayed to all beings above that the girl found a place to hide from all of the terrors that place had.
"Why do you always carry a gun around?" The mother asked with a hint of suspicion in her voice as she thought back when he greeted them with a shotgun barrel to their faces. Amber didn't reply at first, but he soon let out a tired sigh.
"I'm avoiding the same mistake my father made," he said after a moment of thick silence. His fingers clenched the steering wheel tighter as he foresaw all the secrets he will disclose in the upcoming conversation. His green eyes sharply stared holes into the yellow line running down in the middle of the road, "he let them in."
The parents glanced at each other. The father asked with a careful tone, "how did your father die?"
"...Fazbear Entertainment is a corporate of lies that disguises itself as a children's company to gain profit, my father was part of upper management," Amber said with a fierce resolve. "But my father was smarter than they initially thought, and it wasn't long until he learned what was in the shadow of the corporation."
Amber glanced at the rearview mirror to see the parents' reactions. They looked to be in disbelief. He released a shaky breath as he held the wheel tighter. "He vowed to make the public know of the things they did, so he stole something very precious from them as evidence, they later found out and..."
He breathed out as he released the tension in his knuckles, every time he thought of it, his fingers trembled with a primal fear. "They sent terrible things into our house one night, my father obliviously invited them in, and they killed him."
The parents paled. Amber felt like he was stuck in a dream-like trance as he remembered that night like his own reflection. "I was hiding but I saw just about enough of what they did to him. After the deed was done, those things tore the house apart, searching desperately for the evidence he stole."
Amber laughed a shaky laugh, "unfortunately for them, he hid it away deep into his lab. It's like he knew they would find out one day, so he made sure they would never find it."
"...And what was this evidence?" The father hesitantly asked. The man wondered why a children's corporation was so desperate to retrieve something stolen from them that they would kill a man for it.
Amber's frown deepened, his voice solemn and tight. He breathed out after swallowing a sour bitterness down his throat. He remembered his father's crazed ramblings about it, how the man worked day-in and day-out on it. His father always explained with excitement on how it was the work of a genius, on how he stole the work of a genius.
"It was called Project Security Breach."
I got the new Fnaf song stuck in my head from JT music, the lyrics are so metal 🫡🫡
