31 : Hopeless

Gregory's expression became bored, disinterested even. Robots with dead eyes flanked his side, under his beck and call like dogs. They were stiff and rigid, like puppets under a master's strings. Everything suddenly clicked in Moon's head:

All of this, the bot carcasses Moon would find in dark rooms and corners, dissected and mutilated beyond repair. All of that, it was for total control. It was Gregory who did that. This robot boy was not normal. He wasn't like the other humanoid robots he had seen many times. This was a major threat, a threat in which he didn't know the motives of.

"Drag him out," Gregory said as he crossed his arms, expressionless. The mechanical puppets rigidly approached Moon, who attempted to shove and push them away. First, he was grabbed by the arms, and then the neck. Moon growled like a cornered, feral animal. The boy glared at him, "I'm sure you're smart enough to know that resistance is futile."

The animatronic struggled as he was dragged out into the light. Slowly, his panels flipped and clicked into place as Moon's cool, icy colors changed into vibrant yellows, oranges, and reds. The transformation was over in a few seconds, and Sun silently took his place. The animatronic was uncharacteristically quiet and still, slumped over and defeated. He was dragged before Gregory, and was finally released, ashamed like a dog that was scolded.

The silence lasted for what felt like an eternity in the cold light of the daycare until Sun finally spoke with a quiet voice as he gestured towards the stiff bots, "what is the point of doing all of this to get what you want?"

"I get what I want through my own means, Sun," Gregory cocked his head quizzically before he motioned towards all of the robots around him. "These... are just objects that can be used."

"What makes you any different from them?" Sun retorted.

A ghost of a smile spread on Gregory's face. "You're right, me and you are like them. We all follow orders, we all follow programming given to us, the dictum in which we are controlled, we obey religiously."

Gregory leaned in, his gold eyes milky and boyish voice a whisper that dripped through the hum of machinery that surrounded them, quiet and somber., "But there is one thing that sets us apart from them, that sets everything apart. Who is more controlled, and who has the control..."

Sun stuttered through his voice box. He wanted to argue against what the boy was saying. About what? He wasn't sure. The boy was right of course, in a place like this, it's survival of the fittest.

Beneath all those smiling children and singing animatronics, it was a battlefield of wits. Who is replaceable and who is not. Gregory leaned back with a satisfied look in his eyes, he knew Sun couldn't help but agree. "You know, humans are the same way, always following a routine, just like us. But they have more freedom and control over their lives than us."

"Why even bring this topic up? Do you want to be... a human?" Sun laughed nervously. It wasn't the first time he had heard of such a thing. The robots who looked like humans imitated them to perfection. They were always almost identical to them, but never quite the same.

"No... I have given up on such pointless endeavors a long time ago," Gregory sighed tiredly. He looked older when he was like this, when he was serious and calm. Like he had seen the beginning and the end. But this machine, Sun knew, devours all ounce of what it could to feel like it's in control, even if it means being the farthest from humanity as possible.

Sun suddenly thought of the little girl. He remembered her clearly. She gave him a singular toy block, the first time he ever got a good look at her. Her innocent eyes, her naive nature. She didn't deserve this, to be looped in this twisted game.

"...What are you going to do to her when this is all over?" Sun suddenly asked, his voice deep and thick with suspicion. Gregory didn't answer him, his eyes stared menacingly into Sun's singular one. The animatronic suddenly felt himself becoming worried. "Answer me! what are you going to do to her?"

Gregory's eyes flicked up to one of the bots behind Sun before glaring back at the animatronic. "Silence him," the boy commanded coldly, ignoring Sun's question as the animatronic repeated it again and again. His voice cracked as he tried to scramble away from the puppets.

Robots latched onto Sun, and hoisted him closer to Gregory. Sun shoved at them but they didn't let go. His eye gleaming frantically as he glared furiously at Gregory. The other eye was gruesomely cracked and hollow, the boy smiled slightly at the sight. The girl's soft eyes replayed in the animatronic's head repeatedly, and Sun knew she was in grave danger.

"Listen, I don't know who your creator is, but I sure do wonder how they managed to f-f..." Sun struggled, but he managed to hiss it out ferociously, "...fuck you up so badly!"

Gregory tsked at Sun like he was vermin. Sun, the eternally smiling, cheerful robot, had quite a ferocious side. No matter, he will be of more utility than he ever was before.

"Who- what are you?!" Sun hissed out as he faced the machine with golden eyes and a deceptively soft face, The robots surrounding him held him tightly as he stilled and stopped struggling. Gregory looked down at him with a look in his eyes that spoke of no good intentions.

"I am the security breach."

____________

That albino rabbit with red eyes haunted the girls mind as the monitor shut off. It was gone so fast that the girl began to doubt that what she was saw was even real.

Just who was that?

The girl tried to dig through her memory, maybe there was another animatronic the other kids of her class had mentioned before, maybe there was posters of this white rabbit that she might've glanced at but never fully seen. But nothing came to mind. Was it even an animatronic at all?

But even so, the girl had a bad feeling about it. A very bad feeling. Whoever or whatever that was, there was a sinister aura to them that made the girl believe that they were up to no good. But she didn't want to wait around to find out. First, she needs to find a way out. Freddy was waiting for her.

She searched quickly around the room, and on one of the rickety tables was a red screwdriver. (Y/n) stared at the tool and remembered that her father used to use such a tool to open things, things with screws and such. She looked at the door, no screws. She looked around and spotted a vent, there were four large screws attached to it. She crawled up to caged metal and fumbled for the screwdriver.

She stuck the end of the tool into the screws and it fit. She tried to remember what to do, but it finally came to her after watching her father fix her bike. You just have to... twist it!

CLACK!

The vent door fell to the ground. She let out a sigh of relief and felt proud of her hard work. But then she heard the sound of the door handle fumbling, as it was being unlocked. The girl quickly slipped inside the vent while pocketing the screwdriver. She didn't want that blonde woman to find her and trap her in the dark again.

She crawled out of the vent and into the main lobby. She heard the door from the room she just left open, whoever it was clearly saw where she escaped from, because she heard a quiet chuckle escape their lips. She recognized that it was the voice of that albino rabbit.

(Y/n) wandered about the main lobby for a short while, trying to find her way back to where the main atrium was. But she heard quiet steps that mingled with the sounds of her own.

"Are you having fun, yet?" Taunted the rabbit with red eyes as it trailed somewhere behind her, on the hunt. The girl quickly made her way to the nearest escape route, the elevator. The rabbit followed her, taking its time like it was an evening stroll. It obviously took notice of where she was going as it just laughed mockingly.

She quickly went into the elevator and pressed a random floor level rapidly. The metal doors shut just as glowing red eyes came closer and closer to view. The rabbit, whatever it was, was confident in its strides as it released that haunting chuckle again.

"See you soon~" it crooned softly through the door, but (y/n) heard it clearly. She felt shudders travel up her body as the elevator went down. It went to a much lower floor, and when the elevator gates opened, she was inside the basement of the Pizzaplex. This was not where she wanted to be, but she dared not get in the elevator again, not with that white rabbit waiting for her.

She timidly walked through the dark corridor. She's been down here before. It's the underground network that connects the Pizzaplex together. After a while of trying to find the right door, she heard an audible sound of a security bot approaching. (Y/n) quickly slipped into a laundry box. She watched as the thing zipped passed her. It didn't even bat an eye at her hiding spot. Actually, it's eyes were... glowing yellow?

(Y/n) watched it leave in confusion. There was something strange and stiff about that machine. She slipped out of the box and watched its form retreat into the darkness like some ghost.

She froze as she heard another one come her way. She slipped inside a heavy door. The light from the bot flashed beneath the door and then disappeared. There was a strange clicking and droning sound coming from it. The security bots were stiff but they were never this mindless.

"...Freddy... she escaped..." The girl heard bits and pieces of a conversation. She immediately recognized the voice speaking to be that crazy security woman. (Y/n) came closer to the sounds of the conversation, and the distant sound of Freddy's voice made her perk up. He's here!

"I'll have to find... he's causing trouble..." Vannessa's voice was angry and tired. The girl couldn't hear Freddy's response but it seemed to be solemn. She came closer to the large room. She caught sight of Vanessa in front of a large cylinder, she saw the blurry figure of Freddy inside this scary cylinder. He was laying motionless on some metal bed.

"...The damages caused by your little scuffle will be blamed on who? Me! You're staying here till they scrap you in the morning," Vanessa scolded the animatronic, pointing accusingly at his unmoving form. "Monty will take your place on the stage till they pull out another one of you."

And just like that, the woman left in a fit of rage. (Y/n) waited for a couple moments before she hesitantly came closer to the cylinder. It was cold and damp down here, and Freddy was unresponsive.

"Freddy?..."

The girl said meekly at the silent bear. He was overall motionless, there was something wrong. She saw one eye flicker yellow and the animatronics body twitch violently. (Y/n) stepped closer to the cylinder, and almost cried out in surprise.

"...(y/n)?... is that you?"

Freddy said, his voice was cracking like some damaged radio. Freddy looked like he had been torn to shreds. Both his arms were damaged, especially his left one that looked like it was about ready to fall off. One of his eyes was broken, and the other flickered sporadically. His jaw was damaged, and (y/n) could see some of his sharp teeth gleam in the dull light from his torn cheek.

"Freddy are you ok?!" The girl said frantically as her hands pressed up against the cylinder's frosted walls. The animatronic let out a rough, glitchy laugh that sounded more like a hiss.

"Never... been better," the animatronic said in a haunting, broken voice. He tried to lift his neck to look at her, but he only slumped even more, his mechanical parts crackling and shrieking roughly. "I'm sorry... you have to see me in... such a state."

"H-H-how can I fix you?" The girl said as she looked around desperately for any parts or indications of fixing an animatronic. But she saw nothing. Only a rickety computer that looked out of place in such a high tech place. To see Freddy in such a shattered state was quite gut wrenching. Especially because it was for her that he fought Moon. Tears welled up in her eyes.

"I-I'm so sorry, Freddy!" The girl said with a quiet voice as tears welled up in her already puffy eyes. The animatronic's mechanical arms twitched at her apology as his damaged voice box stuttered.

"No, no, no. Don't be sorry my little superstar. It's not your fault. This... this is nothing! We'll figure something out... e-eventually."

His reassurances would've worked if everything didn't feel so hopeless.

I know I know my writing motivation is what's hopeless here 👹
