23 : Trust

Just so you know, there is cussing in this story.

Freddy decided that it was for the best that (y/n) remained outside of his hatch. It was not like he didn't enjoy her being in his protective safe-space, it was just the fact that she didn't find it comfortable there.

He came to the conclusion that it was best to use the hatch when needed, because there was also the risk of losing battery if she stayed in there for too long. His power canal was cut, and he can only do so much to keep her safe without draining his precious energy supply. She would have to walk by his side, for now.

They were still in the general area of the daycare, but they were nearing the exit of if. Freddy was relieved. The power diversion may come at any time now, and when that happens... Moon is free to roam. Freddy felt his insides coil tightly.

Freddy guessed the children had already met the jester, and it was quite obvious that their encounter was less than pleasant. The large bruise on the girl's ankle seemed to be enough proof. And any thoughts that wandered to the wound were not the friendliest.

He never liked the daycare attendant that much, especially Moon. He was too scary, he's not for small children, Freddy thought bitterly. Moon is high on the list of animatronics that have malfunctioned, that injured customers and children alike, and has had very violent tendencies. But the problem was that he was irreplaceable. They put him multiple times in Parts and Service and he would always come back the same. Unfriendly, uncaring, dangerous.

The jester was the most expensive animatronic in the building. With his ability to change and shift forms like such, building parts and an endoskeleton would cost a fortune. He was a complex robot who, unfortunately, did not work correctly. The daycare attendant was never fatally decommissioned before, either, (which is surprising due to crazy behavior) so they never had to replace him.

But now, seeing his little girl limping because of that damned bruise, he would consider finishing the job himself.

Nonetheless, Freddy did not want to see that wild animatronic anytime soon. Whatever happened in the daycare, it affected the poor girl in some way. She didn't seem as bright as Freddy last saw her. She was afraid of him, and he could assume that it was because of his inhumane, mechanical qualities that he possessed. This could only possibly conclude that an AI has done this to her.

Freddy walked at a tense pace, the girl following timidly behind. The animatronic made sure she wouldn't stray too far behind, but you couldn't blame him for moving so swift and silently. The air between them was once more tight with tension, albeit with a little awkwardness.

He managed to tug her out of her fearful shell for just a moment in the restrooms. But once more, she was stiff with nervousness. Perhaps a little conversation will help? Freddy had already formed a conversation in his head, and he was about to speak it but the remaining lights abruptly turned off with a quiet whirring sound.

A power diversion. Shit.

It only took a quiet clicking sound that resounded through the corridor for Freddy to understand what was happening. Moon was free to roam and he was approaching. Freddy spun around, his eyes glowing brightly in the dark as it spotlighted the girl who was behind him. She started to tremble in fear as her eyes grew misty. He had a feeling she knew what was wrong.

When the power surge happens, all electrical activity experiences a temporary reset that lasts for only a moment's time. All devices are offline except the power stations, where most of the power is diverted to. This happens only at night throughout all hours, there typically is only one of these diversions per hour. The time which it takes the power to come back on varies. It usually is not that long, but there are few cases in which it can last nearly all hour.

Of course, when all the power is gone, there is no functional security unit in the building, typically, cameras and such are offline (fortunately, security doors still seem to remain shut.)  This unit excludes the security bots, for they are still available. But even then, the building is very vulnerable during this time frame because the bots are easy to maneuver around.

Moon is free to roam during power surges. He serves as a... security measure of sorts. If he sees an intruder, well, Freddy is not sure what happens exactly, but most likely something unfavorable. The large problem is that, even if the intruder has a guest pass or not, they will get attacked. (Y/n) and Gregory are intruders in Moon's eyes.

"(Y/n)," Freddy's large paw gently grabbed her shoulder to ground her, but she only shook more. Her eyes were pale with primal fear.  "Hey, it's alright, superstar..."

"F-Freddy, I can't do this, I-I can't do this again..." The little girl sobbed, her skin prickled with fear. She shut her eyes tightly, trying to wipe the tears from her red-rimmed eyes. "He's going to get me!.."

"Hey, no, no, don't look away from me, keep your eyes on me, ok? I'll keep you safe, no matter what, I won't ever let him get you." His claws carded gently through her hair, it seemed to calm her down.

"A-are you sure?"

Freddy paused, his chest tightened. "Yes!- I... I'm sure." He's never stuttered like that before, he's never doubted himself like this before. But the girl seemed to be convinced, if not slightly. But she was scared, who wouldn't be after facing their nightmare a second time in the same night?

She didn't want to be alone. But she was afraid to be with anyone. She was afraid to be with anyone other than Gregory. Freddy's chest tightened at the thought, was he not enough?

"We will have to get going now, superstar. Moon is coming, we must stay diligent," Freddy encouraged her, his voice stayed neutral and friendly despite his bitter thoughts. "I know there is a power station nearby, I can use that to revert the power."

Freddy pulled her in front of him, practically dragging her down the long hallway. In the distance, there was the faint glow of a power station. That was the solution, but there was one problem:

"(Y/n,) I cannot use the power station with you. You will get hurt," Freddy said as they stopped next to it. It was a glowing blue beacon in the thick darkness. His eyes were one of the few sources of light other than the stations. "You must find somewhere to hide."

He saw the girl's visibly tense like a spring at his statement. She started to shake her head in fear. Freddy too was hyperventilating a million ways where this could go wrong, but what else could he suggest? Her getting electrocuted in the power station? If things go right, the electricity will return and Moon will slink back to where he came. But if things go wrong...

"There must be something nearby." Freddy's eyes flicked around. "But Moon can see in the dark, make sure you are completely hidden and out of sight until the lights come on, don't even make a sound, okey?"

The girl followed his instructions with a trembling nod and disappeared into the shadows, in search of a place to hide. She found one rather quickly, it was a storage box to the far back against the wall. She opened it and slipped in, only to find that there were a bunch of bot parts on the inside. She shifted uncomfortably against the metal before peeking out past the lid.

Freddy was inside the power station. She could see his silhouette in it, his glowing  yellow eyes were on her, which comforted her a little, but they quickly shut closed. A familiar clicking sound met her ears, making her sweat fearfully.

And that's when she saw the jester animatronic prowl down the corridor's tiled floor. She heard the playful jingle of the bells on his wrist and the terrifyingly quiet tapping of his elf-like shoes. Moon was incredibly hard to see in the thick darkness, only his red, glowing eye seemed present. It zipped from object to object, scrutinizing it before moving to another.

She ducked further into the box when the glowing, red pupil glared in her general direction. Moon's eye twitched back to the power station, staring intensely into it. She knew that the animatronic could see Freddy in there.

"You've ruined me, you know? You took away so much of me,"  Moon's velvety voice swam through the darkness. The girl felt her blood turn into ice. "I know you're here, cowering away somewhere, like prey to a predator. I'm impressed you've made it this far."

Moon spun around, his singular eye viciously on the lookout for any sign of her. He spoke so calmly, it was unlike him. "Unfortunately, these little games of yours are over. I know you're here, you can' t be too far from your dear friends."

The animatronic took measured steps around. His eyes flicked from the power station to around the area. He scoured around like a rabid bloodhound, and just as thirsty for flesh.

"Isn't he one of your friends?" She knew he was talking about Freddy. Moon chuckled lightly. "I would highly advise against making companions with anyone in this building."

Moon continued to speak to her. Her limbs were starting to feel like led the more he whispered to the darkness. "Because anyone who is associated with here is never a convenience, unlike you perhaps."

Moon shifted around, staring back at the storage box she was in. He trotted around, uncannily relaxed and patient, at ease, but that was never like Moon. That robot is up to something. "Especially your little friend. His eyes... he knows too much, he's too aware."

Golden irises appeared in her mind. They were still sharp and bright, like she was looking into Gregory's eyes now. She thought about what he'd do in a situation like this. Perhaps he would face Moon head on?

"You shouldn't trust him. He'll take more from you, more than I ever could..." Moon whispered, his voice box crackling but it slowly faded away. His glowing eye disappeared from the power station and into the shadows. The girl waited for a moments time, before she heaved out a shaky and quiet sigh of relief.

"Much like how you shouldn't trust yourself!"

Moon has arrived again cus of course 😨
And with the Freddy cussing scene, I just find it funny 💀
