CHAPTER EIGHT-TEEN

˚CONTAINMENT˚

"Roughing up our minds so we're ready when the kill time comes."

THEY WERE CONFINED, contained like wild animals, getting ready to be slaughtered. Although this time their fate was known to them, allowing the fear to take over. They had lost track of time seeing as there were no windows or see through doors. Only thin stretches of light could be seen throughout the train car from small cracks allowing the bright sun to shine through.

From her time being there, Reign had counted four nights, meaning she had been trapped in this car for about four days. The rest of the group had been there longer than she had, and had already begun preparing themselves for a fight.

They made weapons out of anything they could find using the thin posts of wood that surround them, along with the wooden boards underneath their feet. They had sawed spears and stakes of wood from the train car using the chain from Glenn's metal watch and the knife Reign had managed to sneak in, as it was placed in the sole of her shoe.

On the fifth day, Reign sat against the train car door, trying to peak outside but all she could see was the light of the sun as it rose in the sky.

"You should be sleeping, like everybody else," Daryl said, sitting beside his daughter. Truth be told, Reign had only gotten about ten hours of sleep during the five days they were here, as all she could think about was the unknown. Her mind buzzed with thoughts so loud, they prohibited her from sleeping. All she could think about was where they were, where Damon, Bonnie and the rest of the Mystic Falls gang was, but most of all where the hell her brother was.

"I can't. Not until I know where Dylan is," she murmured groggily, her lack of sleep starting to overpower her.

Apparently after the prison, Dylan had gotten out with Daryl and Beth and the three of them spent their journey on the road together. All of this was new to Reign, and quite frankly hard to comprehend seeing as she thought she would find her brother when she found her father.

"He's alive okay? I saw the black car with the white cross myself," Daryl said gently. "I know they're the ones that took them."

Reign closed her eyes and tried to visualize this black car, the car that had supposedly taken Dylan and Beth while they were overwhelmed with walkers. Not knowing where her brother was sent a wave of heartache through her, as all she wanted to know was that he was safe. Before the apocalypse, Dylan had always been away often as he was sent across seas on missions preforming his lieutenant duties. Every time he was away Reign feared for his life, as she never knew if he was going to come back. It just so happened that every time he was away now, Reign was reminded of this fear as the only time she truly felt relieved was when he was by her side.

"Hey," a female voice suddenly whispered. Reign opened her eyes to see Maggie bent down to her level, searching Reign's watery eyes. "We're going to find them. Both of them," Maggie said confidently, although Reign knew she was only speaking those words to assure herself more then Reign.

"If there's anyone I would trust to save my life, your brother would be one of them. He's one hell of a fighter," Glenn added, standing above Maggie.

"You all are. Must be something with that Dixon blood," Rick smiled, holding his carved wooden stake in his hand.

Reign looked at all the people around her and smiled, an overwhelming feeling of gratitude and love floating around her as she realized the people that surrounded her were people she could rely on. They had become something like a family to her, and after living a life in a broken one she was thankful she had them.

Before Reign could put her feelings into words, a loud boom erupted as the top of the train car opened up, a single metal can falling to the ground. In that moment it was like everything was playing out in slow motion, all of their eyes staring at the mysterious can. Just when Reign had identified what it was, the new member Abraham let out a shout, ordering everyone to move back.

But Reign's mind was too slow, as the can exploded right in front of her eyes sending a wave of pain through her head. The can leaked of gas, the substance reaching her eyes and making her cough. It was something like tear gas, making it impossible to see.

While the whole group was down, the front door of the train car opened, revealing several men in gas masks who randomly started to pull people from the car. Reign turned her head from where she laid on the ground, and watched as Rick, Daryl and Glenn were pulled from the train car. Despite how much the tear gas had drained her energy, she managed to let out a cry for help, one last scream before her father was taken away from her once again.

She knew she was drawing attention, but that's exactly what she wanted.

"Take her too. She's the bitch that came with that vampire," one of the men said. Before she knew it she was being dragged along side the others, out of the train car and into a building.

With her vision still blurry and her head spinning, Reign was struggling to open up her mind. All she could hear was the drilling of a drill and the sound of people. She blinked rapidly until her eyesight cleared, and before she knew it her vision had returned just in time to see her along with several others, lined up against a long metal sink. Their mouths were all gagged and their hands tied back as they all stood on their knees presumably awaiting their death.

Reign was the last one in the line up, Rick kneeled beside her. She poked her head out and saw her father, who's eyes were filled with tears just watching Reign there. This was the last thing he had wanted for her, but unfortunately he didn't have a choice in the matter.

"Alright, you know the drill boys. Quick shot in the head and clean slice in the throat. Make sure all the blood is drained and collected so we can use it for 'em vampires. God knows they'll need the boost after last night," one of the men chuckled.

Reign's head shot up at the mention of vampires, her mind immediately thinking of Damon. She didn't know why, but she found herself fearing for his life. Her curiosity about this place and what they would want vampires for was killing Reign on the inside.

Just as she was mid way into her thoughts, the sickening sound of bone smacking sounded as the first man in the line up had his head smacked with a baseball bat. His body fell against the metal sink as one of the men grabbed him by the hair and sliced his throat. Reign's mouth gaped wide and she looked away, unable to watch as the blood sputtered out of the man's neck.

She closed her eyes as the same thing happened to the next two in line, and the next and the next until they reached Glenn. Reign began to silently hyperventilate as her throat closed in and her eyes watered.

"Hey guys, what's your shot count?" Gareth asked, suddenly walking into the room.

The two men preforming the killings stopped what they were doing, and put their full attention on Gareth. Reign opened her eyes and let her eyes wonder to Gareth, who's eyes were already on her. "Why the hell is she here? I thought we were doing the females later," Gareth questioned.

"I-I thought you said you wanted her dealt with immediately," one of the men stuttered.

Gareth shook his head in anger. "I said, I wanted her dealt with immediately once the vampires were under control. Their bodies are filled with vervain right now, and I wanted to specifically kill her in front of them. You get me?" Gareth asked as he walked over to Reign.

Reign glared at him the best she could despite her eyes that still burned. He knelt down in front of her and removed her gag, allowing her to breathe better. "You're the one that came in with the raven haired one right?" he asked.

Reign only pursed her lips in response. "Well, I'll have you know we don't kill vampires. They're way too valuable seeing as their strength is perfect for slavery, not to mention their blood heals people," Gareth smirked. He spoke gently and softly, but Reign wasn't about to fall for his charm.

Reign remained silent, which only amused Gareth. "Alright, I'm taking her with me. The rest of you carry o-" Gareth was cut off as the sound of gunfire erupted from outside, sending him to pick up his walkie talkie.

"What's going on?" Gareth asked into the speaker. "Does anyone copy?" he snapped, just as more gunfire sounded. Gunshots weren't something Reign was a stranger to hearing, but an explosion was. Reign jumped and let out a small yelp as an explosion boomed throughout the building, the source of the sound coming from outside like the rest of the commotion.

"Stay here!" Gareth ordered before running out of the room. Reign let out a sigh of relief as she realized he had forgotten to put back her gag. With chaos booming from outside and the two men distracted by fear, Reign slowly leaned back to grab the knife placed within the sole of her shoe with her hands that were tied together behind her.

"Do you hear those gun shots? We need to move man! Our people could be dying!" one of the men said, overpowered by fear. The one holding the baseball bat slowly walked behind Reign, and for a second she thought she had been caught.

"We don't deal with security, that ain't our job. This is," the man with the baseball bat said, as he continued to walk around Reign and in her sight. She watched as the two men talked with one another, allowing her more time to reach as far as her arms could go to grab the small knife.

"Hey," Rick whispered, causing Reign to glance over at him. He had his hands untied with his wooden stake still in hand. Reign only smirked as she grabbed ahold of the knife, before slicing through the straps that bounded her hands together in one quick movement.

Rick nodded at Reign, before the two of them rose to their feet and approached the two men when they weren't looking.

Rick took the taller one who was in possession of the baseball bat by stabbing him aggressively in the neck. He gagged on the blood that poured from his mouth before falling to the ground. Reign sprinted past Rick and reached the other man just in time before he turned around. Catching him off guard, Reign slashed his throat with her knife, letting a small threatening growl escape her lips as he bled out on the ground beneath her.

Usually the feeling of killing someone wasn't as satisfying as it felt now, seeing as these people had almost killed the ones she loved. Wiping her forehead of sweat, she turned to the rest of the group who were already on their feet thanks to Rick who cut them free.

Daryl approached his daughter immediately, ignoring the man she just killed and instead wrapped her in a hug. "You okay?" he asked her.

"Fine," she sighed. "Let's just go," she said, before running ahead and taking the lead, stopping to grab various weapons along the way. Everyone else equipped themselves with various weapons, including daggers and several guns found stored in the room. Reign scrunched her brows in disgust at the bodies hanging around, their skin taken off leaving just the meaty parts.

"If you see these people, don't hesitate to kill," Rick stated, his tone suppressing a state of anger. It was a state of anger he only expressed when he was close to the edge. "They won't."

Reign only nodded in agreement, surprising Daryl who never thought to see his daughter in such a state of vengeance. However, he knew now was not the time to have a one on one talk about it.

Together as a group they ran to the door of the building, opening it quickly without even thinking of what was outside. The compound that was once so welcoming and peaceful was now overrun with walkers. Reign was smart enough to piece together everything, coming to the conclusion that this place was attacked.

The only question that remained was, by who?
