Chapter Two: "Homecoming"
Earlier, we met our first character, Jack, who is on his way to Zootopia, hoping to ask for the help of the ZPD. Now, we are introduced to our favorite duo, ready for a normal day at the ZPD, but Bogo's got news for Nick and Judy.
"Wilde, Hopps," The ZPD's chief, Chief Bogo, says, catching the two mammals' attention, shown as they snap upright in their chairs, ears perked up, almost ready for anything.
"Yes sir?" The odd pair say in unison.
"Easy, you two," Bogo says, allowing the fox and bunny to relax. "Reports have come in of a suspicious mammal slowly moving towards BunnyBurrows, alongside other mammals acting odd outside the burrows," Bogo starts. Judy, despite her new worry and surprise, remains silent, allowing Bogo to continue. "I want you two to go out to BunnyBurrows and wait for that mammal. Understood?" Bogo asks.
"Understood," Nick speaks up for Judy. Bogo straightens up, giving a smile.
"Good. Dismissed," Bogo says, walking back to the podium. Nick turns to Judy, giving her a little nudge.
"Hey, Carrots. Come on," Nick says, sliding out of the chair. Judy looks down at Nick before following him out of the chair. "Isn't BunyBurrows your home, Carrots?" Nick asks as they walk out of the briefing room, making sure no other officers are nearby.
"Yeah," Judy says. Just as they're about to talk again, they overhear two other officers talking. Normally, they'd let it pass them by, but this was different than your usual office talk.
"Hey, did you hear what some people are saying about Savage City?" They overhear a wolf say. Stopping, Nick and Judy perk their ears up to listen, careful to act casual.
"Isn't it closed to the outside?" The rhino he's talking to asks. Nick and Judy look to each other, confused as they listen on.
"That's what they're saying. Wonder why, though," The wolf says before they start off on something about Herds and Grazing or something, but it's unheard as Nick and Judy stop listening in on the conversation.
"What was that all about?" Nick questions out loud, looking back and forth between Judy and the two officers. Judy reaches a paw forewords and grabs Nick's arm, pulling him along.
"I don't know, but we'd better get to BunnyBurrows," Judy says, trailing Nick through the ZPD headquarters lobby. The two officers let a silence linger over them as they make their way to the train station. The two board the train, finding a lone seat before Nick finally stirs from the unusual silence from Judy.
"You're worried about your home, aren't you?" Nick suddenly asks, making Judy turn to him, confused. Odd question at an odd time. Nick doesn't say anything else, but just looks at Judy, expecting an answer.
"Not really. I mean, aside from the fact that we're heading to my home on ZPD orders," Judy admits. Almost coincidentally, Judy's phone starts going off, the familiar MuzzleTime ringtone filling the silence. Pulling her phone out, Judy sees her parents are calling. Taking a short breath, she smiles and hits the answer button.
"Judy! You answered!" Her mom's voice comes through the phone. Nick stays quiet, trying to stay out of the call while watching with interest.
"Hi, Mom," Judy says. Bonnie's about to say something, but double takes at her screen.
"Judy? Are you on the train?" Bonnie asks. Well, perfect timing. Judy gives a small nod, knowing her mom will want to know, as all moms do.
"Yeah. I'm actually coming home. Chief assigned Nick and I to BunnyBurrows for a special case," Judy says, mentally cringing at what Bonnie will think of Nick.
"Nick?" Bonnie asks, seeming confused about the name. Judy seems taken aback by Bonnie's confusion about Nick's name.
"Nick? My partner at the ZPD?" Judy seemingly reminds Bonnie, who's face lights up in one of those moments.
"Nick Wilde?" Bonnie's cut off by a distant voice, unclear through the phone speaker. "I gotta go, honey. I'll see you here!" Bonnie says, giving Judy no time to say anything as the call ends.
"Okay? Bye?" Judy says before putting her phone away. Nick only stares, confused at the actions between Judy and her mother. "That was odd," Judy pipes up from the awkwardness of the silence after her call.
"No doubt. Today's felt odd since Bogo assigned us to BunnyBurrows," Nick agrees. In silence, the two officers decide to wait out the ride to BunnyBurrows, watching the scenery pass by.
Chapter Two! Also, we find out Chief Bogo has gotten word about a strange mammal heading towards BunnyBurrows, Judy's home. While Judy seems worried, she still accepts the assignment with Nick, but not before dropping in on a conversation about a place called Savage City. What's so special about Savage City? And who is this strange mammal? As usual, feel free to vote and leave a review! See ya!
