Chapter One: Meet Jack
Hello! Fury here for a quick note! Yes, I did publish this before, but I decided to move it from my second account to here! With that being said, I hope you (for some, once again) enjoy!
Inside of a run-down looking room, a white bunny is seen, spread out across a matted bedspread in a grey hoodie and cargo pants. An assault rifle lays propped up against the bed, loaded with a crimson-stained bayonet.
Rolling around on the bed, I mindlessly give a sigh as a familiar scene plays out through my head within my dream.
"And, it is my great privilege to announce that the new training academy has produced its next graduate. Valid Victorian of his class, Officer Jack Sean," The grey bunny says from her podium, gesturing to me as I stand among the ranks of recruits.
It's a very familiar dream. The dream I've had ever since I was a kid. Originally to be the first, but now the second bunny in the Zootopia Police Department. I don't know why I still have it, since it's not going to happen anyways.
I puff out my chest as I walk up onto the stage and stand at attention in front of the bunny, who holds a small wooden box, containing my new badge. I smile in pride as she takes out the shiny golden badge, ready to pin it on me.
It all seems innocent, right? A dream about being accepted into the ZPD, getting your badge handed to you by none other than the bunny whom inspired you herself, Judy Hopps? Well, guess again.
"Congratulations, Officer Sean," Judy says, smiling as she opens the badge pin, ready to pin the badge to my uniform, finalizing my acceptance and declaring the start of my life as a police officer.
What you're about to witness is my life now. It's funny, really. I've had this dream so many times I can recall every moment in vivid detail as I narrate. Prepare yourselves in three...
I feel my smile grow as Hopps steps up to me.
Two...
I puff out my chest a bit more, ready to accept my duty as a police officer.
One...
"Welcome to the ZPD," Judy says before reaching out. My heart races as her paws near my chest, badge in paw and poised to pin it against my chest.
Now.
Just as Hopps is about to stick the pin into my uniform, a tearing is heard as, from the corner of my eye, I see a black panther tear through the curtain of the jerry-rig ZPD stage set up in my district. Screams resonate as I feel myself being jerked to the left, the badge tearing not only my uniform, but gashing my chest. Screams fill my ears as I'm slammed to the ground, the panther bouncing off. ZPD Officers draw their guns from the holsters around their waist.
"Freeze!" I hear being shouted through the ringing in my ears given to me from my head slamming into the dirt. The panther snarls at me, a deep crimson liquid dripping from its jaw, which I now notice is dislocated. Time seems to slow as the panther lunges at me, his teeth penetrating my neck as I feel myself lifted from the ground before I hear a pop, my vision going black.
I scream as I jerk awake in panic, my paws frantically scrambling for my Assault King KA-47 I carry nearby. Now, I know what you all are going to say. Paranoid much? Well, what you witnessed, was a zombie attack. Yep. That's my life. Surviving in the midst of the Zombie apocalypse.
Pardon me! I haven't introduced myself yet! If you didn't catch it, My name's Jack. Jack Sean. Sole survivor of the zombie outbreak.
"Sweet cheese and crackers," I sigh, setting my KA-47 back down on the floor. How word hasn't gotten to Zootopia and help hasn't come yet is beyond me, but I'm still working on getting it there. "Just that dream again," I say to myself. I lay back down against the dusty pillow and try to catch some more rest, but a groan from outside says that I'm not going to be getting any more sleep soon.
"Why can't I get a break from you guys!" I shout to the groans, getting up as I grab my KA-47, moving to the window. I open it to be encountered by a rotting gazelle outside the window, it's left arm and horns missing alongside half of its entire head, a sight I've grown used to seeing. The gazelle turns to me, locking eyes as I wipe my bayonet down. We shouldn't be surprised as she tries to run at me, a broken calf making it hard. I remain silent, saying nothing as she limps up to me. Once she's close enough, I raise my KA-47, pointing the blade at the mammal.
"Nice to meet you, too," I say before thrusting the rifle forewords, closing my eyes as I hear the sound words can't describe, nor would they want to. The blade pulls out with ease as I hear the corpse fall down onto the ground before I open my eyes. Tango down. I pull the cloth back out, wiping the blade down again before collapsing the bayonet. Upon laying my KA-47 down, I pull out an old poster of Zootopia, one I've had since I was a kid.
"Only a few more miles, and I'll be at the Burrows," I whisper before folding the paper and picking up my KA-47. I slip my head and arm through the sling, letting it hang across my back as I load the pockets of my cargo pants up with bullets I have found. I grab the other two thirty-round mags and slip them in my pockets before strapping my knife sheathe back onto my thigh. I grab my knife and sheathe it before beginning on my way again.
"Don't worry about us, kiddo. We'll be fine. Just go get help in Zootopia," My parents' words ring through my head as I open the front door of the house I stayed in, making sure I leave before the original family of the house returns. Taking a quick look around, I run off towards the nearby woods, continuing on my way to safety. To help. To BunnyBurrows.
So, how was that for chapter one? Anyways, now that we met our first character, a bunny named Jack who managed to escape a Zombie outbreak in a place away from Zootopia. He has now set out for BunnyBurrow to seek help from the ZPD, but will it be too late for him? As always, feel free to vote and leaving a review is always appreciated too! Ciao
