Hold My Hand: Part 2
Addison's emotions took over as she struggled with the security guard and her moonstone reacted to her highly emotional state. Suddenly Addison's eyes glowed yellow as she growled. She ripped the security guard's hand from her arm and shoved him away.
Addison then turned her attention to the other security guard, grabbing the back of his vest and yanking him away from Zed. She stood between Zed and the guards growling protectively, warning them to stay away.
"What the hell?" Dr. Patey exclaimed as he slowly backed away.
"Addison! Addy stop!" Zed begged as he fought against the cuffs, wishing he could hold her to calm her down. "Addison I'm okay, everything's okay. Please calm down."
Addison's eyes flickered as they returned to their natural blue and she looked around in confusion before turning to Zed. "What happened? What's going on?"
"You went werewolf on the security guards." Zed explained. "You were protecting me."
Addison looked at the two guards who were sitting on the floor staring at her in fear and shock. Tears filled Addison's eyes as her hands flew to her face, covering it in a look of disbelief. She couldn't believe she had attacked someone.
"I'm so sorry." Addison whimpered, falling to her knees. "I-I didn't mean to. I-I would never hurt anyone."
Zed dropped to his knees in front of her. "Addy, it was an accident. It's okay, no one is hurt. You were only protecting me, you didn't do anything wrong."
Addison continued to sob on her knees as another doctor rounded the corner, stopping in shock when he saw the scene in front of him. "Johnathan what in the world is going on here!?"
"Dr. Andrews." Dr. Patey gulped. "I was trying to take Mr. Necrodopolis, I mean Zed, upstairs for his Z-band upgrade and asked the girl to go to the waiting room. She refused and then Zed refused to come upstairs so I called security as instructed in the protocol guidebook and the girl attacked them."
Dr. Andrews looked at Zed who was trying his best to console his girlfriend while still being cuffed and then at the guards who had gotten to their feet. "Uncuff the boy at once."
Dr. Patey stared at him in disbelief. "But Dr. Andrews--"
"Enough John." Dr. Andrew's replied. "I will take it from here. Go attend to your next patient."
Dr. Patey sighed but nodded. "Very well."
Dr. Andrew's watched him leave before turning his attention back to the two teenagers. They were still on the floor with Zed cradling Addison in his arms as he whispered softly into her ear as she sniffled into his shirt having calmed down a bit.
Dr. Andrews gestured for the security guards to leave as he knelt down beside the two teens. "Are you both alright?"
Zed looked up and nodded. "I'm fine. Addy?"
Addison looked up, attempting to wipe the remaining tears from her eyes. "I think I'm good now. Are the guards okay?"
"They're fine." Dr. Andrews assured her. "But may I ask what happened?"
"It was pretty much how Dr. Patey put it." Zed admitted. "Except he left out the part where he was speaking very rudely to Addison when he was telling her she needed to leave. I confronted him and told him I wouldn't go upstairs without her and he called security because I was 'refusing to cooperate'."
Dr. Andrews nodded. "I see, Dr. Patey can be a bit strict. And what about the attack?"
"I saw the guard shove Zed against the wall and cuff him. He was being so rough and I was scared he was going to hurt Zed." Addison explained, sitting up as she clutched her moonstone necklace. "I'm a werewolf and I guess my moonstone reacted to my fear and my werewolf side kicked in because I wanted to protect Zed so badly. I'm still learning to control my inner wolf. I'm really sorry."
Dr. Andrews smiled softly. "Its quite alright. No one was hurt and you were forced into a position where you felt threatened. If I felt my wife were in danger I know I would do anything to protect her. You were only doing what comes naturally."
"Thank you, um...." Addison trailed off, realizing she didn't know the doctor's name.
"Dr. Andrews." He smiled. "CEO of Z-tech, head doctor, and lead engineer."
"Wow." Zed and Addison exclaimed.
Dr. Andrews chuckled. "My father was the founder of Z-tech. When he passed I inherited the company. I decided that if I was going to run this company I wanted to be involved in every aspect of it. So I got my doctorates in engineering, programming, and medical care. This way I can run the company while also being able to understand and get involved with everything that happens here."
"That's incredible." Addison smiled. "You must really love this place."
"I do." Dr. Andrews agreed. "I know it doesn't seem like much but I am working towards making this place more welcoming. If you haven't noticed it's very bland and dull around here. I think a paint job and some murals would really make this place seem less intimidating."
"Definately." Zed agreed. "Everything is so....white."
Addison nudged him in the side and Zed chuckled. "It still looks good on you though Addy."
Dr. Andrews smiled at the young couple. "Well if you two are ready we can all head upstairs and finish this appointment."
"All of us?" Zed questioned, glancing at Addison.
Dr. Andrews nodded. "Yes, all of us. I think after the fight you both put up you've earned it."
Addison and Zed shared a smile as everyone got to their feet and climbed into the elevator. The doors opened on the next floor and Addison looked around on awe as she saw all the people typing away on computers and running tests in small personalized labs.
"Up here is where we develop and test our latest Z-band technology and each doctor has their own lab to run tests in when working with their patients. This way there aren't any mix ups with doctor's getting the wrong patient's results."
"That's amazing." Addison smiled. "You guys have really thought of everything."
Dr. Andrews nodded. "Yes, here at Z-tech we do our best to ensure that our patients recieve the best care."
Addison nodded as Dr. Andrews led them to a small room. "Here we are. Zed if you'll just step inside we'll take off your Z-band and get started."
"Aren't you going to ask him what color he wants?" A voice asked.
Dr. Andrews chuckled as he turned around. "Well my dear, I figured you would take care of that."
The woman joined them and Dr. Andrews placed a kiss on her cheek. She had long curly hair and soft blue eyes, but what stood out the most was that she was a zombie.
"Zed, Addison, meet my wife Dr. Hazel Andrews, one of our tech specialists." Dr. Andrews introduced.
Zed must have been just as surprised as Addison because he blurted out what she had been thinking. "You're a zombie."
Hazel chuckled at Zed's response. "Yes dear I am, just like you. Bryan and I just got married a few months ago, but we've been dating for years."
"Years?" Zed questioned. "But how?"
Dr. Andrews smiled. "We met in secret. Hazel caught my eye one day when she came here for her yearly check up. We started to talk and by the end of the appointment both of us had felt a spark."
Hazel nodded. "I knew I needed to see him again so I started to make excuses to make appointments to come here. After a few months we admitted we were in love. Bryan knows the routines of the Zombie patrol so he'd sneak through the barrier and we'd have late night dinners in the dark at my house. And now that the laws have been abolished, we were finally able to get married."
"My beautiful wife has also gotten her degree in technological engineering so that she can work with me and to help her own people." Dr. Andrews smiled warmly.
"Wow. That's incredible. I didn't think I'd see a human and a zombie married until Addison and I tied the knot." Zed admitted.
"Zed!" Addison blushed.
Zed smirked playfully. "Come on Addy, you know we're going to be married someday."
Addison blushed quietly as Hazel smiled at the young couple before getting back to business. "So as I was saying before, you can chose the color of your Z-band. We've developed the new Z-band to be more discreet as you can see."
Hazel lifted up her sleeve to reveal the new model of Z-band she was wearing. It had a purple band and resembled something Zed had seen some of the humans kids at school wearing called a Fit Bit.
"Wow, that's so cool." Zed admitted, examining the new Z-band. "So what colors can I get?"
"What color do you want?" Hazel asked.
Zed thought for a moment before looking at Addison. "Is white an option?"
Hazel nodded, giving him a small smile. "We can make it white, is that what you want?"
Zed nodded. "Yeah, definitely white."
"Alright I will go set up so that we can transfer the data from your old Z-band onto your new one and Bryan will get you set up." Hazel smiled.
"Thank you." Zed replied politely before Hazel walked off.
Dr. Andrews opened the door to the room and Zed walked inside. Addison started to follow but Dr. Andrews stopped her. "He going to be taking off his Z-band, it's too dangerous for you to go in."
"Zed would never hurt me." Addison reassured him. "I can handle him without his Z-band."
Dr. Andrews eyed her curiously. "And how can you be so sure?"
Addison started to reply but quickly shut her mouth. Zed could get in serious trouble for taking off his Z-band. "I-I just know I can."
"She's right." Zed cut in from behind them. "I won't hurt her. She'll be safe, I swear."
Dr. Andrews looked between the two teenagers. It was against protocol to allow a human to be in the room with a zombie once their Z-band had been removed, but something told him there was more to this than what they were telling him.
"I wouldn't normally do this," Dr. Andrews began. "But I am curious. So I'll allow it. But the first sign of any trouble and I'm pulling Addison out. Got it?"
Addison and Zed nodded excitedly. "Got it."
Dr. Andrews moved out of the way and Addison entered the room as he shut the door behind them. She sat up on the bed as Zed walked over to the window and a small compartment opened in the wall.
"Alright Zed, I'm going to remove your Z-band now." Dr. Andrews explained. "Are you sure you'll be okay with Addison?"
"I'll be fine." Zed reassured him.
Dr. Andrews nodded as he carefully removed Zed's Z-band. Zed groaned as the green veins popped out all over his body. After a moment, he straightened up and walked over to Addison, sitting beside her.
Zed held out his hand and Addison took it, giving him a smile as she leaned against his shoulder. Zed smiled back and sat contently with Addison as he played with her hair with his free hand.
Dr. Andrews watched them from the observation window in awe. All their research said that Zed should be trying eat Addison by now. Yet here he was, sitting beside her as if his Z-band was still active, the only difference being his appearance.
Just then Hazel returned to retrieve Zed's Z-band with Dr. Patey on her heels. Hazel reached out to take the Z-band but froze when she saw the scene inside the room. Dr. Patey had froze as well, it utter disbelief.
"Have you lost your mind!?" Dr. Patey screeched. "How could you let her in with him!?"
"Calm down John, look at them." Dr. Andrews replied. "He's just as calm and gentle with her without his Z-band as he is with it."
"He's right." Hazel replied, staring at them in awe. "Zed is in complete control."
"But what if he loses control?" Dr. Patey argued. "You could get the girl killed!"
Dr. Andrews sighed. "John, I am going to monitor them the entire time. The first sign of trouble I will take her out, I promise. For now, Hazel can take his old Z-band and start preparing his new one."
Hazel nodded as she took the Z-band. "It should only take about ten minutes."
Dr. Andrews watched her go before turning back to watch Zed and Addison. The scene in front of him was amazing, and made him even more determined to do more research into Zombie behavior and evolution since the outbreak first occurred.
This proved that Zombies had come much farther than anyone had realized. He had always known they weren't monsters, but this went above and beyond anything he could have ever hoped for.
Back inside the room Addison rubbed her thumb across the back of Zed's hand as he played with her hair. She looked up at him and met his gaze with a small smile. "Are you still feeling okay?"
"Yeah," Zed replied softly. Even though his voice sounded gravelly and distorted, it still held its gentle tone. "I'm glad your here. It doesn't feel as overwhelming as it does when I'm alone."
Addison smiled. "I'll always be here for you Zed, no matter what."
Zed smiled and pressed a kiss to her temple and a 'ding' rang through the room.
"Zed." Dr. Andrews voice rang through the room. "Your new Z-band is ready, please step forward."
Zed sighed and stood up, walking away from Addison and over to the window. The small compartment opened once more and Dr. Andrews slipped the new Z-band onto Zed's wrist.
The small screen lit up and the veins covering Zed's body immediately receded. Zed stretched and grinned, relieved to be back to normal. "Finally I'm me again."
"I take it the new Z-band is working well?" Dr. Andrews commented.
Zed nodded admiring the small, white Z-band. "It's perfect, thank you guys."
"Of course." Dr. Andrews replied. "You can both come out now."
Zed and Addison exited the room and Zed frowned when he saw Dr. Patey glaring at him. He wrapped his arm around Addison and turned to face Dr. Andrews. "So are we all done?"
Dr. Andrews nodded, handing him a card. "Yes, we are all finished for today. That is my business card, if you have any problems with your Z-band or have any questions please feel free to call anytime."
"Thank you Dr. Andrews, I will." Zed nodded, tucking the card into his wallet.
"Have a safe trip home." Hazel smiled, placing her hand on her husband's shoulder.
"We will, thanks for taking care of my Z-band." Zed smiled.
"Anytime." Hazel replied.
Zed led Addison out of the building and sighed in relief when they were outside. It was finally over.
