Fro-yes or Fro-no?
"Mmmmmmm." Wyatt moaned as he took another bite of his Froyo. "This stuff is the greatest thing ever."
Eliza chuckled as she took another bite of her own. "Is this your first time eating Froyo?"
"Yeah, why?" Wyatt asked, looking up from his cup. "Is it bad?"
"You got a little something right here." Eliza replied, wiping the corner of his mouth with her thumb.
"Can't take me anywhere I guess." Wyatt chuckled, picking up a napkin and wiping his mouth again just in case.
Eliza smiled. "So what flavor did you get Wolfie?"
"Peanut butter and bones." Wyatt replied. "Though I think it's just peanut butter froyo with peanut brittle shards mixed in. What did you get?"
"Blood and guts." Eliza replied. "Though I think it's just strawberry froyo with strawberry syrup swirled in it."
"Either way." Wyatt shrugged, taking another bite. "This stuff is awesome."
"Agreed." Eliza nodded as she stirred her Froyo around in her cup. "You know, I wonder how Zed's making out at his appointment. I can't wait to see the color of his new Z-band."
"New Z-band?" Wyatt questioned.
Eliza nodded, holding up her wrist to show him her new red Z-band. "Z-tech created new Z-bands since the monster laws have been abolished and alot of us are graduating this year meaning some of us will start to travel for college."
Wyatt nodded in understanding. "That makes sense, but what about you? Are you going to travel for college?"
"I don't know yet." Eliza admitted. "I want to see the world and I've gotten lots of offers from different tech schools, but Seabrooke is home. What about you?"
Wyatt sighed. "I don't know if I'm going to college."
"What do you mean you don't know?" Eliza questioned.
"I grew up in a cave in the woods." Wyatt reminded her. "I'm used to the pack hunting and gathering food, sleeping under the stars, and learning from the elders. When we joined Seabrooke High, that was the whole pack's first time attending a real school. Now all the sudden people are talking about jobs and college and preparing for the future. I don't know what I want to do, I don't know what career paths there are. I don't know anything about houses or cars. I grew up a wolf, that's all I know. And I don't know how to live like a human while still being part of the pack."
Wyatt didn't look up as he slowly stirred his Froyo aimlessly around in his bowl and Eliza's heart went out to him. Wyatt was right, the wolves were new to society and they were getting ready to be thrown into a world they had no knowledge of how to navigate.
All this time she had been worrying about what college to attend, Wyatt had been silently drowning in his own worries. He was a boy from two worlds who had no idea how to balance them.
"Wyatt," Eliza's voice was soft. "Why didn't you say something before?"
"And say what Eliza?" Wyatt questioned. "Sorry I don't know how to live a normal human life? Yeah, that doesn't sound ridiculous at all."
"Wolfie," Eliza sighed, reaching across the table to take his hands in hers. "You may have human parents but you will always be a wolf. No one can blame you for being unsure of what your future holds."
"Right now there's only one thing in my future I am certain of." Wyatt replied, meeting her gaze.
Eliza tilted her head curiously. "What?"
"That I'll have you." Wyatt replied.
"And you always will." Eliza smiled. "And there's no reason you can't have the best of both worlds."
"How?" Wyatt asked.
Eliza leaned her head on his shoulder. "Picture this, a little cottage in the woods. Close to the den but not far from Seabrooke. You can still hunt and gather with the wolves while going to the store when you need to. Maybe you have a little side job doing something that you love, and I'll be right there with you."
Wyatt smiled, resting his head on hers. "That actually sounds amazing. But what would I even do?"
"Football?" Eliza suggested. "You love being on the field."
Wyatt chuckled. "Yeah, but I wouldn't want to go pro, too much traveling. You know, Willa and I always joke about how Seabrooke clothes stores don't really cater to wolves or zombies. We always talked about starting our own. Is that possible?"
"Yeah it's totally possible." Eliza grinned. "And a store like that would be a big hit."
"You think so?" Wyatt asked.
Eliza nodded. "Definately. You'd just need a business degree, a way to make clothes to sell, and some money to buy a place to turn into the store."
Wyatt sighed. "So it's going to be a lot of work and I need to go to college. Great."
"You can do it." Eliza smiled. "I believe in you."
"Yeah, just take it one step at a time right?" Wyatt replied, flashing her a small smile.
"Exactly." Eliza agreed.
Wyatt nodded. "Well, this talk of the future has been great, but I'd like to come back to the present now if that's okay."
"Okay." Eliza drawled. "And what would you like to discuss at this present time?"
"Um, well, I know you like figuring things out and coding is like a puzzle because you have to make sure everything is put together in the right place." Wyatt began, pulling a sheet of paper from his pocket. "So I made a little code puzzle of my own for you to solve."
Eliza looked at him questioningly as she took the paper from his hand. She unfolded it carefully and studied its contents.
Eliza furrowed her brow in confusion before turning to Wyatt. "What is this?"
"It's wereish, the language of the wolves." Wyatt explained. "Each symbol represents a letter in the alphabet."
"Its the same way in Zombie." Eliza replied, still studying the puzzle. "But I have no idea what any of these symbols stand for. How am I supposed to solve it?"
Wyatt chuckled. "I figured you might say that. Would you like the key?"
"That would be helpful." Eliza replied, holding out her hand.
Wyatt pulled a second, folded sheet of paper from his pocket. He started to hand it to her put pulled it away before she could grab it, flashing her an onry smirk. "But first you must pay a fee, one kiss, on the lips."
Eliza rolled her eyes as she leaned forward and gave him a kiss. As soon as he closed his eyes, Eliza reached over and snatched the paper from his hand before pulling away, flashing him her own triumphant smirk. "Gotcha."
Wyatt sighed. "Well it was nice while it lasted."
Eliza laughed as she opened the second sheet of paper to examine the key.
Eliza grabbed a pencil from her backpack and began using the key to solve the puzzle. Wyatt watched as she filled it in and waited for her reaction.
As the message became more clear, Eliza's smile began to widen. She filled in the last couple letters and then turned to press a kiss to his cheek as the message laid in front of her completed.
"Well?" Wyatt asked.
Eliza laughed, a wide grin plastered on her face. "Yes Wyatt, I would love to go to Prawn with you."
Wyatt smiled as the two shared a kiss. When they pulled away he leaned his forehead gently against Eliza's.
"Happy birthday Wolfie." Eliza smiled.
