Sad Lion

Sagittarius woke up in Aries' bed. The doctors eventually managed to kick her out of the hospital, so they could check on Aries and do tests without being asked a million questions every time they did anything. She also had a new part time job that consisted of taking care of Leo, who wasn't taking the whole Aries being in a coma disaster too well. Sagittarius even slept on Aries' side of the bed to comfort Leo if she needed it.

Sagittarius sighed and waited for Leo to wake up. Leo was heartbroken the last time her best friend ended up in a coma. Nobody knew how devastated she's going to be this time.

Leo's eyes opened slowly. "Ar...ies?"

"Unfortunately, it's just me."

Leo frowned at Sagittarius. "I keep hoping the whole thing is just a nightmare and I'll wake up with Aries sleeping beside me."

"How are you feeling?"

Leo shoved her face in a pillow. "I want to jump off the roof."

"She came out of a coma before, she'll do it again. It only took a few weeks last time."

Leo turned to face Sagittarius. "Your hair looks pretty. Blonde suits you."

"Everyone's been too busy worrying about Aries to notice my hair."

"Can I just fall asleep until she wakes up? Can you put me in a coma too?"

"I'm not going to have both of you injured at the same time."

"Then can I at least get amnesia or something until it's all over?"

"We'll get through it together."

"What happened at the hospital after I passed out anyway?"

"After the doctors confirmed that you just passed out from shock, we all went home. They wouldn't let anyone visit her yet, and they even kicked me out."

Leo pulled the blankets over her head. "Can you leave me alone for a while? I need some time to myself."

Sagittarius walked towards the bathroom door to get dressed and brush her teeth. "You know my number if you need anything."

***

Sagittarius walked downstairs to see Gem, Pisces, Libra, and Capricorn in the living room. Sagittarius sat with them on the couch, between Gem and Pisces.

Libra sighed. "How's Leo doing?"

"I think she's becoming depressed again."

"Are we still going to school?" asked Capricorn. "I can guarantee you won't be able to make Leo go to school today. If she does go, she'll find a way to get herself suspended before lunch."

Libra shook her head. "Anyone who wants to stay home can do so. It's important that we don't all miss school, but I won't force anyone to go."

"I'm staying to take care of Leo," announced Sagittarius.

"Wait. When did you dye your hair?" Pisces played with a strand of her hair.

"It looks really pretty," commented Gem who also played with Sagittarius' hair.

"Can everyone please stop touching my hair?" asked Sagittarius.

Gem continued twisting the golden strands between her fingers. "Did you dye it this morning?"

"No. Libra dyed it yesterday, but everyone was too worried about Aries to notice. I love the colour but something just doesn't look quite right to me."

"Maybe you should try a new hairstyle." Gem lifted Sagittarius' hair and pushed it so that it all fell in her face. "Wow, this look is even better."

"I'll kill you." Sagittarius stood up.

Gem jumped from the couch and ran away, almost crashing into Aquarius on her way out.

Aquarius sat down beside Sagittarius. "Your hair looks really nice."

Sagittarius swatted Aquarius' hand before he could play with her hair. "Only people who buy food for Sagittarius can touch her hair."

Aquarius shrugged. "I'm buying pizza from the cafeteria today, I'll buy you some lunch too if you want."

"I can't believe that actually worked," grinned Sagittarius. "But can you buy me food another day? I'm staying home today."

"I don't mind spending money on you. I'll treat you to some lunch tomorrow then."

Pisces smirked. "What a kind platonic act of platonic friendship between two friends who do not love each other in any way at al-" he was interrupted by a pillow being thrown at his face.

"I just texted everyone." Capricorn scrolled through his phone. "Since Easter Break is coming soon, everyone wants to go to school. There's a lot of last minutes tests this week. Scorpio didn't answer yet, neither did Leo. So I guess they'll stay home while the rest of us go to school."

"Pisces, you didn't use this as a chance to stay home?" asked Libra.

Pisces shrugged. "Virgo told me that if I don't go to school, he'll throw me in the pool during P.E."

Aquarius furrowed his brow. "And you didn't challenge him?"

"I'm trying to be reasonable after everything that's happened. I don't want Virgo to snap at me."

"So it's just me, Leo and maybe Scorpio?" asked Sagittarius.

"I'll stay home too," offered Aquarius. "I'll help you take care of Leo so that you don't have to do it all yourself."

"Is that the only reason?" smirked Pisces.

"I'm not using this as an excuse to spend time with Leo. I'm doing this only to help Sagittarius. I don't have any ulterior motives."

Sagittarius hugged Aquarius. "He wouldn't lie to me. He also became best friends with Aries so he cares about her more now."

Aquarius wasn't sure what to call her, but he wouldn't exactly call her his best friend. Although being forced to be friends with her, he wasn't sure what he thought of Aries. He could get along with her, but Aquarius thought she was a little too unpredictable. But I suppose Sagittarius is like that too, Aries is just a different kind of crazy. Sagittarius is always crazy, but Aries switches back and forth, so you really don't know what she's going to be like.

Aquarius leaned back on the sofa. He supposed he might as well get to know Aries better at least. If he could understand her better, she could become one of his best friends. After all, any friend of Sagittarius was a friend of his.

"Are we going to visit Aries at the hospital?" asked Pisces.

"They might not let us visit her yet," replied Libra. "But we will when we can."

"She's not even the last one." Capricorn rubbed his temples. "The last person to get affected will still have it worst."

"What's worst than being in a coma for however long?" Scorpio entered the room and sat beside Libra. Dark circles under her eyes became more and more visible with everyday that she became more and more sleep deprived. "Let's not think about it."

"Are you going to school?" asked Aquarius.

Scorpio shrugged. "I was going to stay home, but we probably can't visit Aries yet anyway."

Capricorn checked his watch. "We should probably get ready for school now. We should also probably tell Aries' teacher's about what happened to her. I can't believe this is happening again."

Sagittarius nodded. "She'd want you guys to carry on with school though. I'll go see how Leo's doing."

After Sagittarius left, everyone else got ready for school.

***

Sagittarius and Aquarius walked into Leo's room.

"I'm not going to school!" whined Leo from under her blankets.

"You don't have to." Sagittarius sat on the bed and pulled the blankets back. "We're going to take care of you."

Leo squinted at the light. "I don't need anyone taking care of me. I need to see Aries."

"We will when we're able to," reassured Aquarius.

Leo glanced at him. "You're here too? At least it's you guys taking care of me."

Sagittarius chuckled. "Imagine if we let Pisces and Gem stay home."

"She'd be covered in marker or glitter," replied Aquarius. "Is there anything we can do for you? We can make you some breakfast, or a smoothie, or some cheesecake. Would that make you feel better?"

"I wonder if Aries is a ghost or something now. Can I put myself in a coma and join her?"

Aquarius' eyes widened. "Leo... she's just talking like that because she misses Aries, right?"

Sagittarius nodded. "She did this when Aries was put in a coma for the first time. We just have to watch her to make sure it's empty words."

Leo hauled the blankets back over her head. "I like the darkness better. I want the darkness to consume me until I can see Aries again."

"What does that mean?" asked a creeped out Aquarius.

"She just says weird stuff because she's upset. She's trying to creep us out to make us leave so she can be alone."

Aquarius hauled the blankets away from Leo. "You still have to eat."

"Will cuddles make it feel better?" Sagittarius got in bed beside Leo and wrapped her arms around her. "Aqua can you go make us some food?"

Aquarius headed towards the door. "I know what you're trick you're playing, but I'll still make you food."

Libra ate lunch with Virgo and Olive.

"Where's Scorpio?" Libra scanned the cafeteria.

"Isn't she bothering Pisces?" asked Virgo.

"Botheri-ing Pisces?" stuttered Olive.

"She thinks he likes someone," replied Virgo. "So she's trying to get him to confess who."

"Pisces is likely trying to get Scorpio to confess if she has a crush as well. If there's two people who can't leave other's love life alone, it's them."

"I'd think they'd end up together, but they seem to have a friendship based on helping each other."

"W-what does, does that mean?" asked Olive.

Virgo shrugged. "They team up to prank the others, get information out of each other, or talk when there's nobody else around. Their friendship is based off of mutual benefit."

"They like being around each other, but they're always trying to benefit from being around each other. I don't think that kind of friendship could lead to them dating, but it certainly is an entertaining friendship to watch."

"As long as-as it works f-for them," shrugged Olive. "But is-isn't that using each o-other?"

Libra shook her head. "They actually care about each other. Their friendship isn't only about mutual benefit, that's just the main reason why they talk sometimes."

"They wouldn't be as close if they weren't always messing with others and trying to get information out of each other," added Virgo. "But they'd still be friends."

"That's a close ob-observation," nodded Olive.

"Gemini is really good at analyzing other people and their behaviours," chuckled Libra. "Sometimes he shares his observations with us."

"All the following students please come pick up an item at the office: Libra Statera, Virgo Sub-Terra..." announced the secretary over the speakers. Libra and Virgo stood up as the secretary announced a list of students.

"What's g-going on?" Olive's brow furrowed in confusion.

"We applied to a very prestige university," replied Virgo. "Very few people get accepted. Your grades have to be very high to get in."

"Does th-that mean you guys are, are going to pick up your, your acceptance letters o-or something?"

"The letters either tell you're you're accepted, or wait listed," replied Libra. "Everyone who got called to the office are the people who said they applied to the same university as us, so we're just assuming that's what it is."

They both ran out of the cafeteria, towards the office.

***

The secretary handed out letters. A crowd of students stood around his desk, impatiently. "You guys are here because you all applied to the same university. Everyone already knows this, but this university has a very high reputation, and it only accepts fifty new students per semester. There are twenty six of you who applied from this school alone." He picked the first letter out of a box sent from the university. "The first one is for... Becky!"

Becky snatched the letter from the secretary's hands. "I already know what it's going to say." She patiently opened the envelope, making a scene about it. "I got accepted! Wow, it's almost as if I didn't already know that!"

"If we don't get in I'll be really annoyed, just because she got in," muttered Libra.

The secretary pulled the next letter out of the box. "Virgo."

Virgo took the letter and stared at it for a few seconds. He was nervous about opening his letter in front of a crowd of the smartest students in the school. His hands shook as he opened the envelope and pulled out the letter.

Libra looked at the letter. "YOU GOT IN!"

"I can't believe it," grinned Virgo.

Libra hugged him. "I'm so happy for you!"

The secretary looked at the next letter. "Becca."

Becca glanced at her ex-best friend as she took her letter.

"It's not like she's going to get in," snickered Becky. "Without my study guides, her grades probably went downhill. That's what you get when you stop being my friend."

Becca opened her letter. "That's funny, considering that I got in. Guess we're going to be classmates, Becky."

Becky clenched her teeth together and curled her fists. "You probably bribed your way in anyway!" She stormed out of the office.

The next few letters were handed out to other students. Almost all the others received letters saying that the university was unable to offer them a seat during the next semester. A few others got waitlisted. One of Libra's friends who helps her out in math sometimes also got accepted.

When Libra's name was finally called, she quickly opened her letter, and closed her eyes before she read it. "Virgo, what does it say?"

Virgo sighed. "Libra... I'm so sorry. I know you tried your best, that's all that matters."

Libra's eyes snapped open. She read the letter. "I GOT ACCEPTED?" She turned to wrinkle her nose at Virgo. "You asshole! You made me think I didn't get in!"

Virgo chuckled and stepped back before Libra could slap his arm. "That's what you get from trying to get me to tell you what your letter says!"

"Stay still while I beat the shit out of you!"

Virgo laughed and ran out of the office from Libra who playfully chased him.

Aquarius returned to Leo's room with a large bowl of fruit, a cheesecake truffle, and two smoothies.

"FOOD!" Sagittarius jumped out of bed when she saw Aquarius and took the fruit out of his hands.

"I made you guys smoothies too." Aquarius placed the smoothies on Leo's dresser and sat on the foot of the bed.

Sagittarius jumped back in bed and woke Leo up. "Aqua brought us food."

"I'm not hungry," muttered Leo.

Sagittarius ripped the blankets off Leo. "I'm worried about her too. You know you're not the only one upset about this, right? We're all worried about Aries, and we all want her back. Nobody else is lying in bed, refusing to eat like you are. Your problem is that you don't deal with your pain, you try to block it out by not doing anything except sleeping and trying to pretend it's not real. After a while you're going to get angry, and you'll take it out on other people. That's what happened last time. I'm not letting you go through all that alone this time."
Sagittarius picked up a strawberry and held it to Leo's lips. "You're going to get up, eat some food, and then we'll worry about her together, all right? You can't just try to shut out all your pain, it'll control you. We'll get through this together."

Leo chuckled. "It's funny how you talk all motivational like that, when you failed your motivational speech in grade ten."

"My teacher only failed me because she didn't agree with the points I made. That was completely biased!"

"Your speech was about motivating people to burn down the school."

"Imagine if someone told you it wouldn't be a good idea to do that..." muttered Aquarius. "Oh wait. I did."

Leo sat up and ate the strawberry. "I was starting to get hungry. Thanks for getting this food for us."

Aquarius nodded. "I'll do anything I can do to help. You and Sagittarius are probably the most upset."

"I'm trying to stay positive. She'll be okay." Sagittarius grabbed her smoothie. "This is my favourite kind of smoothie."

"That's why I made it." Aquarius stood up. "I'll go take Handsome for a walk."

"I needed some time to talk to Sagittarius by herself anyway," smiled Leo.

Aquarius nodded. "Call me if you guys need anything."

"Aquarius is our loyal servant. He'll take care of us," chuckled Sagittarius.

"I just want to make sure my friends are taken care of."

Scorpio and Pisces followed Gemini around the school during the second half of lunch.

"I must be popular if I even have my own stalkers," smirked Gemini.

Pisces attempted to crack his knuckles. "We're just following you until you answer our questions."

Scorpio successfully cracked her knuckles. "All we need is a little information."

Gemini stopped and sat on a bench. Scorpio and Pisces sat on either side of him.

Gemini sighed. "I think my boyfriend is going to get jealous that you guys are so obsessed with me."

"We just want answers."

Pisces nodded. "We want to know who all the single people have a crush on."

"Including you?" asked Gemini.

"I don't like anyone."

Gemini glanced at Scorpio. "Aren't you good enough at reading people's emotions on your own?"

"I just want to know what you know in case I missed something."

"Tell me what you guys know first, then I'll decide if I should tell you or not."

Pisces pulled a piece of paper out of his backpack. The paper had the words, Shipping Chart written across the top with a list of the existing couples. Next was a bunch of possibilities of future couples. "There's two couples, that leaves nine people."

"Can't you give it a break?" sighed Gemini. "You're always trying to figure out who's going to end up with who. You're worst than Sagittarius."

Pisces pointed to the names on his chart. "Anyway, I wrote Virgo and Libra since we all know they're platonically engaged at this point. Leo and Aquarius will probably end up together. That leaves five people."

Gemini smirked. "So who are you paired with?"

"Nobody yet."

"So everyone else is going to date while you're forever alone?"

"I don't know who to pair myself with yet," replied Pisces. "Anyway, I want to know if the remaining people have any crushes that you know of."

"Why would I tell you, even if I knew any?"

"Because I need to fill out my shipping chart!"

"What's this?" Scorpio pointed to a heart at the bottom of the page. "Pisces and..."

Pisces crumpled his shipping chart into a ball and held it defensively to his chest. "I forgot to scratch that part out before showing you guys."

Scorpio grinned at Pisces. "That other name is the name of your secret crush, isn't it?"

Pisces' face turned red. "I don't like anyone! I just wrote the name of a celebrity. It's not important. Wait, is that Cancer calling for me? Coming!" Pisces sprinted down the hall.

"Are you still going to try and see what I know?" asked Gemini.

"I just figured out who Pisces likes."

"Me too. It was really obvious."

Scorpio nodded. "I figured it out when I saw the names he had listed. I didn't see Sagittarius' name there."

"Pisces came to me for information on who likes who, but we figured out who he likes instead."

"I don't think that went as he planned."

"How many of those people have crushes that you know of?"

Scorpio shrugged. "I know who likes Leo, but I'm not going to tell you who."

"I also know who likes Leo, other than Aquarius."

"How do you know?"

"She asked me a lot of questions."

"About what?"

"She wanted to know how I knew I liked Capricorn as more than a friend. She jokingly tormented Leo about calling her babe and stuff, but a while ago she told me she was really confused."

"I don't think she'd want you to tell anyone else about that."

"She said if you or Sagittarius asked it was fine to tell you. But she said she'll shave my head and pluck my eyelashes out one by one if I told anyone else."

"That sounds like her."

"Do you know about anymore crushes? You don't have to tell me who, I'm just wondering if there's anyone else."

"I don't think so. Gem and Sagittarius are too busy being team SagGem and pranking the rest of us to worry about dating, Pisces likes Sagittarius, and I don't like anyone."

"I think after Leo decides who she wants to be with, it'll be a while until there's a new couple."

"Unless Pisces confesses to Sagittarius, but I think he only recently started liking her, so I doubt he'll confess for a while. Virgo and Libra are still platonically flirting with each other."

The bell rang.

"See you at home." Gemini stood up. "If Pisces asks, we did not discuss anything else after he left."

"I'll just tell him we talked about him. It'll weird him out."

Leo was braiding Sagittarius' hair into side braids when Aquarius returned.

"How was your walk?" asked Sagittarius.

Aquarius picked a thorn out of his hand. "Handsome dragged me through a patch of thorn bushes. Otherwise it was great."

"We just talked while you were gone." Leo smiled sadly. "I'm feeling a little better, but I can't help feeling like I'm still in a nightmare."

Sagittarius nodded. "I may seem energetic and happy on the outside, but I also feel terrible on the inside."

"That's because you're the sunshine of the friend group," smiled Aquarius as he sat beside them.

"I'm not the sunshine," frowned Sagittarius.

"You try to stay happy to cheer everyone else up, even when you're really upset. Your best friend is in a coma, and you're acting like it doesn't bother you too much, to help cheer your other best friend up."

"Positivity is contagious amongst the right people. I just don't want to bring others down if I get too upset."

"You have to face your emotions, remember?" chuckled Leo. "Are you forgetting what you told me earlier?"

"I bullshitted that entire speech. I just needed to say something to get you out of bed."

"You at least half meant what you said."

"Maybe I meant like one percent of it."

"Fifty one percent."

"Zero decimal ninety nine percent. You don't even get a full percent anymore."

"I should probably go start my daily workout." Aquarius stood up. "Do you guys want to join?"

"I just want to rest." Leo finished Sagittarius' hair and tied an elastic band to finish the braid.

"I'll join you." Sagittarius jumped on Aquarius' back. "We'll check on you again after our workout, okay?"

Leo nodded. "I need some alone time anyway."

Capricorn helped wheel Taurus to language class between classes since they just had art together.

"I hate the elevator." Taurus crossed her arms. "I keep getting scared that it'll get stuck."

"There's no other way to get to the second floor from art class without taking the elevator. Unless you secretly know how to fly."

"We need escalators in this school."

"Just so you won't have to take the elevator?" Capricorn pressed the elevator button and waited.

"I have other reasons."

"At least it's just us in the elevator. I'd be worried if there were too many people in there." The elevator arrived. Capricorn wheeled Taurus in and stood behind her. Before the doors closed, Gem and Cancer made it on time to get on.

"What are you guys doing?" asked Taurus.

"Taking the elevator to the second floor," replied Gem.

"Why?" asked Capricorn.

"We just wanted to take the elevator with our best friends," shrugged Cancer. "We're also going to annoy you guys while we're at it."

The elevator slowly started going up.

"I heard this is an old elevator," smirked Gem.

Taurus swatted her arm. "Don't try to scare me."

"Gem, don't say stuff like that!" sighed Cancer. "They put a new elevator in after that accident thirty seven years ago!"

Capricorn kicked Cancer's ankle. "You guys took the elevator just to scare us?"

"We're not scaring you. This actually happened."

Gem nodded. "I remember reading about it online. Didn't the elevator crash with everyone inside?"

Taurus shrugged. "You can make wind currents to catch us anyway. Now that I think about it, I feel safer with you in here."

The elevator doors opened.

"What classes do you guys have now?" asked Capricorn.

"Biology," replied Gem.

"P.E."

Taurus squinted her eyes at Cancer. "The gym is downstairs."

"I know. I took the elevator just to scare to you guys. I'll take it again to get downstairs after I walk you guys to class."

"Why are you walking us to class?" asked Capricorn.

"We want to be good friends," replied Gem.

"What are they up to?" asked Taurus.

Capricorn shrugged and wheeled Taurus into class. He helped her over to her seatless desk before sitting in his own seat. Cancer and Gem followed them in the class and sat down between Capricorn and Taurus.

"Are you guys going to your own classes?" asked Taurus.

Gem and Cancer didn't answer.

"Is this a dare?" asked Capricorn. They still didn't answer.

The teacher walked into the room. "Hello students and imposters that absolutely do not belong here."

"Hi sir," waved Cancer.

"What are we learning today?"

"Both of you go to the classes you're supposed to be in."

Gem stood up. "Can I write something on the board first?" Without waiting for permission, she wrote Pisces is the most amazing person ever.

Cancer got out of his desk. "That statement is completely false."

Gem and Cancer then walked out of the room.

Taurus turned around to face Capricorn. "They definitely had a dare."

"They must have lost one during lunch or recess or something," replied Capricorn.

"Anyway..." the teacher started explaining what they were going to do during today's class.
