The Chaos Flat

     Libra's pov

Saturday had never been so extremely long. I'd always thought that if we were to move, it would be super fun, like driving around town with pumping music, getting to design my own room with cool new stuff and of course, having my parents still together. Well, none of this came true.

We drove for almost three hours to find our new flat, which was supposed to be "right around the corner". No one spoke, but I guess it was hard since we had just said our goodbyes to mum. She wasn't crying, but I don't think she was sad anyway. She seemed relieved, more likely, almost happy. It shocked me to see this was caused by her leaving dad, but well, that's what divorces are, hm?

Taurus seemed to stay grumpy forever, and Sag only switched looks with me once in the hour. Dad didn't talk, except for when he started calling the moving company again.

The car stopped with a shock, and I shook my head to get out of my thoughts. 'So, are we there?' I asked, but after a glance from Taurus and a look outside, I realized how this could impossibly be our new home. The flat in front of the car – or at least, the part I could see, since I sat in the back next to Sagittarius – was obviously an old wreck. It had a big red door which seemed to be broken, judging by the look of it, and the windows on the first floors – indeed, that's plural – were all covered with wood, carton or paper and something that looked like plastic or tape.

I pressed my cheek to the window to try to get another impression, but it only got worse. There was a small field of grass next to the side of the flat, but it was covered in garbage and, if I was correctly, lots of stone. Next to a pile of this, lay a few broken chairs, some boxes and plastic bags.

To probably everyone's surprise, my dad opened the car door and stepped outside, walking around for a bit as he studied the flat. 'Should we... follow him?' Sag's voice said, but I had no idea, so I shrugged it off. Taurus on the other hand, groaned and turned around in his front seat. 'Of course not, idiot. Dad's just looking for a toilet, or someplace to eat. Although, no matter how much I'd like to have a sandwich right now, I'm definitely not eating anything he brings back.'

He turned back to the big car window and folded his arms. Sagittarius didn't seem to be satisfied with this answer, though. He grabbed my arm to pull me to him, and he softly asked: 'Libra, please tell me this isn't the place mum was talking about?'

I shook my head again, though I couldn't be sure either. 'Let's just... wait, alright?' I told him and leaned back in my seat. Sag let go of my arm and followed my actions.

'Right. Just wait. I can do that.' He closed his eyes, like mum had done on a few days ago. Seconds later, he mumbled: 'I miss mum.' He sighed, and turned over to the window on his side of the car.

I watched him for only a moment, then I turned fully around, to the window in the back of the car. It looked like the street we were in was a very small one, and it didn't have any other houses. It's only purpose was to lead up to the flat, and I started to think Taurus had the wrong end in this.

This was confirmed when I noticed some other cars, not far from our own car. It were only two cars, but still. This had to mean there were people here, and since the other side of the flat was cut off by a lot of trees, I didn't think there was anything else here.

With my brothers eyes on my back, I opened the car door and stepped outside. First thing I noticed was the warmth, assuring me the trees didn't have air-conditioning, like our car. It reminded me of the summer and I thought of how I had imagined this so much better. We'd take a road trip throughout all of Europe, or maybe rent a boat, or something. It would certainly have been a lot better than this.

I closed the car door, and put my hands in the pockets of my jeans. After some looks around, I found my dad standing in front of the door, and I walked around the car – ignoring Taurus annoyed gaze – towards him.

     Sagittarius' pov

'What does he think he's doing?' Taurus muttered, and flinched Libra an annoyed gaze. I bowed to the middle of the car, so I could watch both of my older brothers. Libra ignored us and walked off to dad, who was standing close to the flat, if I was correct. Taurus pushed me back to my seat and let out an irritated sigh.

'This is just great. Did I already mention how much I hate it to move to a smaller place? This means that one of you two dumb heads has to share a room with me, which I bet will be absolutely amazing.' He rolled his eyes back and groaned something I didn't hear.

He had indeed mentioned it before, and while I had to admit that Taurus was right about this all, I also just wanted to get through this and start the new life, without mum right next to us. And if starting that life meant we had to share rooms, then so it'd be. Though it would be best if I stayed with Libra, because it mainly seemed like Taurus was better off without anyone.

From the corner of my eye, I saw Libra talking to dad, as he softly pushed against the door. Did this mean we took the right road after all? Would this be our new home? I decided to ignore my eldest brother and instead did as the others had; I opened my car door and run up to dad and Libra.

'...guess it's alright. And since this flat is still an official one, we'll have to –' I heard my father say, but he stopped talking once I stood in front of them. 'What's alright? Is it this place? We live here, don't we?' I quickly asked, and when Libra slightly nodded, I turned over to the car and made wild gestures with my arms to get Taurus over here.

He, of course, pretended I was made out of thin air, so I just turned back to my brother and father.

'So, are we going in?' I asked, giving the flat another glance. 'Not yet,' dad said. 'I'm going to make a call with the company about this. It's pretty weird how it seems there's only one floor in use.' And indeed, only the top floor – which was the fourth, apparently – had windows without wood in front of it.

Before I or Libra could ask anything else, he'd taken out his phone. 'Why don't you get your brother out of the car, I'm going to make a call.' With those words, he walked away and seconds later, we already heard him talking.

Libra and I first looked at each other, then gazed over at the car, which still contained a mocking Taurus. Neither of us really wanted to get him, I knew that for sure, so I turned back to the flat and looked up. It was only then I noticed the plate somewhere above the door. It was obviously self-made, judging by the handwriting. It was a wooden plate, probably one of the same kind as the ones in front of the windows. Written on it was: "WeLcomE to ThE CHaoS Flat" with some names underneath.

While I tried to figure out the names, it looked like Libra caught me staring and he was now too looking at it, his head a bit to the side. 'Welcome to the Chaos Flat,' he read out loud. 'By... Aries, Gem, Pisces, Cancer, Virgo –' ' – Aquarius and Cap,' I finished for him. I had to stand on my toes to read a small sentence that was written right under this.

'"P.s.: Leo is stupid." Well, this is welcoming,' I smiled, but Libra frowned. 'Are those the people who live in this shack? There goes the last bit of trust I had in this...' 'What? This means there are living cool people here,' I grinned, and looked at the thing again. Now I saw there was another sentence, even smaller than the first, and I couldn't even read it.

'Lib, what does it say?' I asked Libra – who was just a few inches taller than I was. '"P.p.s.: Leo is not, Aries is a bitch ~ x Leo". See what I mean?' said Libra. He shook his head and looked back to the car. I kept staring at the plate, wondering if those people would still live here, or if they were our age. Soon, however, a familiar sound broke the silence between us and as I wondered what had happened, Taurus' voice answered my thoughts.

'Well, after those long and mostly irritating ten minutes, it's pretty obvious to me we really do live here. Are we still going in or what?' 'It's the "or what", in this case,' dad answered. 'And that means I'll be the one who's going inside for now. The three of you will stay outside, until I'm coming out again.'

'So finally, there's something fun to this whole moving-thing, we get to see our new apartment, but no, we can't go inside, because – because why, exactly?' Taurus said, his arrogant voice rising to a new level, called anger. But, for one time, it worked, and after our dad sighed a few times, he took us inside.

The inside looked just as bad as the outside, perhaps even worse. More plastic bags, a lot more broken stuff and for some reason, some of the lights were broken too. I gazed around, looking for something to recognize. A small janitors hutch, some mail lockers, and an elevator with a sign which said "Broken", with next to that, handwritten: "By Aries, of course".

'Just what I was talking about, we're gonna live with some creep,' Libra muttered to me, and actually, I had the same in mind. Just when I was about to open my mouth and make a good response – like I always do – some grey powder slowly came fluttering down from the ceiling.

'Well, I think we're pretty much safe on the top floor, as that'll be the floor to land on top of the other's when this place comes down,' Taurus said and pushed the button next to the elevator. 'Looks like you've lost your ability to read,' I grinned and pointed at the sign.

Taurus put up his known "one-more-response-like-this-and-you'll-be-dead" face and rolled his eyes. 'Yes, but doesn't it seem kind of obvious to you too that this Aries-person is just some pranker, and not a weird creep who wrecks everything?' 'It would explain all the broken stuff,' Libra yelled from the other side of the place.

'And why the elevator is broken,' I added, flashing my brother a smirk. 'And,' dad said unexpectedly, 'if that's true, it might also be an explanation for why the railings at the stairs are missing.'

'I hate you all,' mumbled Taurus and he leaned up against the wall. 'So, the elevator broke down and we live on the fourth floor. The railings are gone, but there are still stairs. Anyone seeing where I'm going?'

'I think he's trying to say "let's go get pizza",' I laughed, but nobody laughed along. Dad started walking up the stairs, just as Libra and Taurus, so I shrugged it off and followed them quickly. 'Prediction: getting all of our stuff upstairs will be a fun project,' I shouted to them, and a few steps above me, I heard Libra chuckle and Taurus groan – yet again.

Once upstairs, we all stood still for a second, each in our own thoughts about the situation right in front of us. We stood in front of a long hallway, seemingly calm in comparing with what we just saw downstairs. As I peeked past my brothers, I counted the apartments I saw, and ended up with seven. I realized I had no idea which one was ours, but I'd find out soon enough.

'At least we found the missing railings,' Libra said and gestured over at the railings on the floor. 'Yes, but why are they covered in notes saying "No Aries, I don't want to see your face again"?' I asked, now seeing the small mess just lying in one of the corners. 'Probably because of the note "Leo go back to Hell",' our dad said, snickering along with us.

'You know, I'm actually starting to like it here,' Taurus said from the other corner. For the first in a whole day, I saw him smile again. 'I don't know who this Aries is, but I guess we'd get along.' 'Or he'll hate you and will throw you down the stairs,' I said. Taurus' smile immediately disappeared and he gazed upon me again. 'Or maybe I'll throw you down the stairs, if you don't shut your stupid mouth,' he said and turned to dad.

'Ok, we're here now, and since I'm not going to be Dora The Explorer this entire day, I don't feel the need to ask where we're going now.' 'Apartment 26, if I'm correct,' said dad, and started walking through the hallway. 'Alright, but what if you're not correct?' I asked and quickly walked after him, and my ears told me my brothers did the same.

'Don't worry boys, I have the key. And you know, after all this long travelling and weird experiences and stuff, I think we all deserve to see our new home. Let's just hope the door won't break down, because I think it will any second.' 'Finally,' Taurus mumbled.

Our dad smiled, put the rusty key in the lock and turned.

The door opened, but before we stepped inside, we heard a faint voice, coming somewhere from the apartment next to ours, yelling: 'No, Aries! Not the chair – no, put it down – don't throw it – I said don't – okay, we're going to need another chair...' It was followed by a lot of loud noises and a few more screams before the silence returned.

It looked like we all froze for a second, even our dad, with his hand still on the doorknob of the open door. He coughed, turned around to us, and said: 'Help me remember we'll make this place sound- and bulletproof,' and with this, he turned back to the door and stepped inside.
