Spirit(s) of Chaos

     Sagittarius' pov

'Come on, Taurus!' I yelled after my big brother, but he didn't response and from his beating footsteps getting softer, I made up he was a lot faster than me and Libra. 'Let him go his way,' Libra said next to me, although I couldn't see his face due to the box in front of it. 'It's tough, for all of us. He'll get over this. Eventually.'

'I hope so too,' I sighed and stumbled onto the third floor. 'Man, we have to do something about this no-railings-thing. I think this won't be going well for ever, if you know what I mean.'

'Yeah, I know what you mean,' my brother said and I could hear the smile in his voice. At least he was able to take my responses normally, instead of threatening to break my bones.

A few more steps and we'd made it to the top floor without stumbling and falling down the stairs, something I feared more than all right now, except for the fact Taurus could be waiting upstairs and push us down. He didn't stand right there, but a few meters further and talking to –

I tried to grab Libra's arms with one of my hand, but I failed horribly. The carton box, balancing on my arms, slipped right through them and collapsed on the ground with such loud sounds, I thought it might sound a bit like the noises we heard yesterday, right before we entered the flat. Libra turned around fast as the light, a shocked but not an angry look placed in his eyes. However, when Taurus turned around, he first showed a bit of confusion, but that soon turned to a firing anger. Loads of books, papers, pencils, some headphones and a charger now lay on the ground in front of me, and I nervously chuckled to break the silence after the sounds.

'Eh... oops?'

Libra sighed, put down the box he was carrying and quickly gathered the stuff on the floor to put them back in the box. 'Paying attention isn't one of your stronger sides, now is it?' he said, slightly irritated. He turned back around and only then seemed to realize the thing I wanted to tell him.

Right in front of us stood a girl, with short hair and curious eyes. She was holding a broken chair, one similar to the ones outside, I noticed. Her eyes gazed from me to Libra, to Taurus and back to me. Either she was nervous and she didn't show it, or she really didn't want to talk, because the silence took forever to me. Those five seconds seemed five minutes, until she finally turned her head to the apartment next to them, and I saw it was number 25, right next to ours.

'Gemstone? Could you... get out here, please? I think we've got new neighbors...' she asked with a raised voice, and not even a second later, another girl walked out. She was a bit taller than the girl we'd seen, with longer hair in a messy tail and her eyes weren't just curious, they had something energetic in them.

Without a single doubt, she made it clear she was a bit better in handling social situations like these, starting with the sentence: 'Yay, new neighbors! I've been waiting forever for some new people to come here!'

She smiled widely, before quickly continuing her talk. 'My name's Gemini, but you can also call me Gem, if you want, I don't care. Don't call me Gemstone, though, Pisces does it all the time and I don't know why, because it's annoying and it doesn't suit me, but anyway, I'm talking too much again. Did Pisces introduce herself yet? I suppose she didn't, so; this is Pisces –'

She gestured over at the girl next to her, who cracked up a small smile and waved to us, while Gemini kept talking.

'– and you guys are clearly new here, because I don't know you, and if I don't know you it means no one here knows you, because I'm always the first to meet everyone new. Don't doubt it; Pisces here can recall sometimes, like when we met Aquarius and Cap, remember? That was a fun time, right?' 'Maybe you should calm down,' the girl, of whom we now knew her name was Pisces, said, to which Gemini nodded.

'Yes, right. Sorry if I'm being a bit clumsy and blunt here, mum keeps saying it's just in my DNA, but she's never like this, so it must be from my dad, then. But anyway; this minute was all about me and Pisces, it's your turn now. Who are you and please tell me you're staying here for a long time, because the more people are living here, the more fun it is, am I right, Pisces?'

She didn't wait for Pisces to respond to that and just stared at the boys with a radiant smile. And suddenly, before Taurus or Libra could do anything, I knew why she looked so familiar to me. 'You're that girl I saw outside yesterday!' I said, pointing up to Gemini. 'I told you I saw someone,' I snickered, this time to Libra, who rolled his eyes back and sighed.

'Alright, if that's the only thing meaningful you can squeeze out of your tiny brain, then fine. I'm Libra, I'm the normal one here. We're brothers,' he explained, and before I could tell my own name, he'd done it for me. 'This small one is Sagittarius, or just Sag for short, and this is Taurus.'

'Hi Libra, Sag, and Taurus,' Gemini greeted back, keeping her smile on even while she talked. 'I'm Gemini, which I just told you, but I'm just making sure you won't forget it, like Virgo did in his early days. But, anyway, I'm also living with two siblings here. Pisces here is about a year older than I am, and her twin is too, but yea, that sounds logical, doesn't it?'

'Just a bit,' I responded. 'So, you have another sibling? Is there any chance we can –'

'Sure you can meet her!' Gemini said, and gestured to the door. 'She's inside, but I have to warn you; she's a bit moody these days. The divorce of our parents still hurts her, now and then, and other people who're living here piss her off sometime, so yeah...'

'Oh, I'm sorry,' Libra said. 'When did they divorce?' 'Almost seven years ago, I think,' Gem said, and she turned back to the door.

Pisces quickly stepped aside to let us pass, while Gemini already walked in. Libra was first to react and walked after her, giving me and Taurus the classic "come-on-guys" look. Taurus was second to follow him and I quickly walked after him, studying everything I saw when I walked into the room. The apartment looked the same as ours, as in, the rooms were on the same place. Other than that, it didn't look like it at all.

The walls in the hall were painted orange and had a lot of pictures on them, mainly of different landscapes, but also of Gemini, Pisces and another girl, probably their sibling. We were lead into the living room – which had grey walls with all colored furniture – as Gemini told us to have a look around while she'd go find her sister.

'Nice girl,' Libra said, looking over at us with a certain look in his eyes which meant we had to have an opinion too. Taurus shrugged. 'Meh. She does talk a lot, but I don't know if it makes her likable. Oh, what now?' he responded to Libra's annoyed look. 'It's true, right? I'm just hoping that other sister isn't this level of hyper.'

'Maybe you should shut up,' said Libra and nodded towards the couch. Our eldest brother groaned, walked past Libra – who could barely dodge the push he gave him – and sat down on the plushy, grey couch. As Libra started gazing at me too, I did the same as my brother and soon we all sat on the couch, looking around the apartment to find something similar to ours.

But my stare at the door to the hallway was quickly interrupted as the door itself opened, and I softly slapped Taurus next to me to get his eyes off of the ceiling.

Maybe I was surprised because I expected Gemini to walk through the door, or maybe because Taurus didn't smack me back, but my main confusion came from the girl who'd appeared in front of us. She definitely didn't look a lot like both of her sisters; apart from the fact she had Pisces' height and Gemini's hair, she was completely different. Her eyes were looking at us in the same irritated way Taurus looked at me all the time, her arms were folded in a way that made me want to shrink in behind Libra and she didn't have that warm, welcoming look we recognized with Gemini.

She started talking after a moment of just standing there and looking at us: 'So, are you just going to sit on my couch all day long with those weird expressions on your face, or are you going to introduce yourself?'

'Taurus,' I heard my elder brother say. I saw he was wearing his grumpy expression again, now looking at the girl with somewhat of arrogance. 'Eh – I'm Libra, and this is Sagittarius,' Libra quickly said. Thankfully he mentioned my name too, because I didn't know if I'd survive a glance towards me.

'Gem told me you're new here,' she continued, and her hard expression turned a little less hard. 'Apartment 26, I may hope? Number 23 is the only other free one, but that one should drop down any minute now.'

'26 indeed,' Libra answered. 'And, eh, what?'

'Well, welcome to The Chaos Flat,' the girl went on, ignoring us all. 'I don't think it was hard to notice you shouldn't fool around with some people here, so try to not get yourself into trouble, unless you know the people who can get you out of it. As an example, Gemini is one of those people. I don't know if you met anybody else yet –' 'We didn't,' Taurus cut her off and I had to say, I admired his courage to interrupt her. He seemed to actually have something to say, though.

'But we did see a lot of signs around here, and we'd really like to know where this Aries-person lives. He seems like an interesting dude.'

The girl's eyebrows raised up to a new level, and her mouth changed into a small line. 'Alright; first thing you have to know: "he" is not a guy. "He" is a girl with attitude.' It didn't just surprise me, Taurus himself also looked like he didn't see this coming. Only Libra's posture didn't change, but he'd probably already considered the option Aries could also be a girl.

And all of a sudden, I thought back to the voices of last night. The person I saw that same evening. And Pisces in the hallway, with the broken chair in her hands.

'You're Aries, aren't you?' I asked her, and boy was I glad when she nodded one time. Taurus turned his head to me, still that same weird look on his face which basically said "dude-no-way".

'Yeah, thanks for letting me finish, by the way. Now we can skip the second thing – which would be my name reveal – and go on to the third thing you need to know: don't mess with me.'

Aries' gaze went back to Taurus and got slightly more threatening, but then she retreated and cleared her throat with a cough. 'So, back to the concept where I seemed to be a dude. I'd suggest you to don't make any other quick conclusions, because it might end bad for you.' She narrowed her eyes to Taurus, who stubbornly stared back. 'And next time, it actually will, dude.'

'Okay, that's enough, Aries, you can leave the newbies alone now,' we heard Gemini say from somewhere behind Aries back. The said-one rolled her eyes back and stepped aside, so we could actually see Gemini.

'Fine. Well, is there anything Gem didn't tell you, considering the fact she can tell you everything about this place in just three minutes? Or perhaps I should ask; what did she tell you?'

'Not much!' Gemini answered for us and slipped pass Aries to get through the door. 'But Aries is right, I really should start telling you more about this thing. Well, it kind of started out when –'

'– when you decided to annoy everyone with your endless talks about everything – literally everything,' Aries sighed.

I began to feel like we missed out on some background stories, because it seemed pretty clear knowledge would be the number one way to survive here. And somewhere in my mind something clicked; if Pisces, Gemini and Aries still lived here, it must be a sign the other people whose names were on the plate lived here too! I felt the urge to give Libra a push, but rethought how almost every other time that didn't work out the way I wanted, and I kept my hands the place they were.

Libra seemed to be reading my mind, because he said: 'Well, I don't really remember the exact things she said, but are there any things we need to know?'

'Oh, yes, a lot. Starting with; make sure you don't kick or hit the walls, they can and will break down,' Gemini warned us. 'Also, the elevator only goes up and down from the third to the fourth floor, but don't use it more than twice a day, because you'll get stuck there for at least five hours,' Aries said. 'Oh, and don't break into any of the apartments on the second floor, because everything is booby-trapped there, thanks to –'

Pisces, who'd started the sentence, suddenly stopped talking and quickly looked over at Gemini. First I thought it was just because she didn't talk much or because she was shy, like we noticed before, but something real appeared to be going on when Aries groaned and walked away.

Gemini checked the hall in which she'd disappeared, then turned back to us. 'Sorry for that. That's another thing, actually; you might have noticed some small things pointing a huge fight between Aries and – well –'

'Leo?' Taurus asked, but he was silenced by the girls. 'Don't say that name when Aries is near,' Pisces mumbled. 'Those two really hate each other's guts. We refer to her as "bitch" or "that one certain person", but mainly "Furface", because of her lion name.'

'Wait a second,' Taurus said. 'You live here with three girls, there's a Leo, who's also a girl... are there any other guys here?'

Pisces started talking instead of Gemini, for a change. 'Well, only two. Capricorn, who lives with his sister on number 28, but they're on a holiday right now. They should return next week, I guess. And then there's –' '– Virgo,' Gemini said, and she started giggling softly. 'Ah, yes. Our sweet, little, helpful Virgo. We love him, don't we?'

'Stop it,' Pisces muttered through her clenched jaws, and as my brothers and me frowned, Gem explained: 'Pisces and Virgo are dating, for about seven months now, I think? And Pisces gets annoyed every time I start talking about it, which I think is pretty nice because I get to tease her with it all the time.'

She smirked, while her sister's face resembled a tomato by then, and she looked to her shoes while Gemini went on talking. 'But it's fair for me to do that, it's basically a payback for her calling me Gemstone all the time.'

'But that's a totally different situation,' Pisces sputtered. 'I call you that because – eh – your eyes shine so bright!' she nervously said.

Another silence occurred, in which Gemini was grinning at Pisces, who was staring at her feet for a bit and just when I wanted to ask more about the whole Leo-Aries situation, Libra coughed and stood up. 'Girls, it was very nice to meet you – good to know we have nice neighbors – but we really have to get back to stuff. I think we'll see you around sometime, then?' 'Depends on,' Gem said, 'does your parent work all day long?' 'Yeah, I suppose so,' Libra said, looking a bit confused for his normal being.

Gemini laughed again. 'Then you better be sure we'll see each other a lot more times. There's not a lot to do around here, so we –' She gestured at Pisces and herself. '– often hang around with the others, watching the fight between Aries and Furface continue, and stuff. It's super fun, just wait until you've met everyone else here!'

'Oh yes, we'll wait for that,' Taurus mumbled to me quietly when we walked out of the door. 'I think just those three alone are a handful.'

'Bye!' Gemini yelled as we walked out. 'See you soon!' Before she closed the door, we heard Pisces saying something about her comment about Virgo, to which Aries voice screamed she shouldn't get her panties in a twist. Then the door closed, and we were locked outside.

'Well, this was... interesting...' Taurus said. 'Do they really expect us to meet all those other people who I don't even want to know, probably?' 'I think it was fun!' I said, trying to get him a less grumpy. 'Yes, but did you notice how she said only said "parent" and not "parents"?' Libra fell in, bringing me back to thinking. 'Could that mean anything?' I said, but Taurus came in: 'Do you think other people here have got divorced parents too?' 'Probably,' Libra responded, and he opened the door of our own apartment. 'But, you know what, I think we'll find out, sooner or later. We only live here for one day now, still some long years to go, right? And besides, it can only get better. I mean, nothing could possibly make this worse, right?'

But, of course, he was terribly mistaking.
