It has only just begun...
Libra's pov
After our meeting with the girls from number 25 on our first official day there, the following days all turned out the same. We got up; fought about what we'd have for breakfast, moved some furniture around, fought about what we'd have for lunch, said our goodbyes to dad – who was going to work every afternoon now –, painted some of the walls, tried to make the shower work so we'd get the paint off of Sag who was stupid enough to get his entire body covered in paint, fought over what we'd have for dinner, ordered pizza and that's basically everything that happened. And just like that, four days past.
Now, there were some exceptions here. The second day, Gemini walked through the open door and talked about the flat for over hours, while we painted the living room. We can now recall every single time Gem freaked out over someone other than Pisces calling her Gemstone, from three years ago somewhere in August to only last month. Finally, Taurus got sick of it and called her Gemstone too, so she got pissed and took off.
The third day, me and Taurus took a look on the third floor, using the elevator which indeed still worked a bit, but very slow. After Taurus kicked down three doors, almost broke down a wall and tried to carry a couch upstairs, Aries came down, yelling to us – or to Taurus, actually – our brother had sprayed some paint on her, and as Taurus responded it wouldn't make her look better anyway, she tried to use one of the broken doors to smack his head. It was a wonder she failed, and after she took the stairs to go up, Taurus insisted on going with the elevator. As warned earlier, it broke down and we waited for 45 minutes for someone to notice and another 30 to get us out.
On the fourth day, I locked the door, to which we all agreed – except for Sagittarius, who got hyper and started whining he needed company other than us. It took some time before we found out he got away via the balcony, and was playing Mario Kart with Gemini in the girl's apartment. After that, Taurus also locked the balcony and left Sag outside for at least half an hour when he came back, until he got crazy of the loud knocking on the glass and let our brother in.
Today was the fifth day, and we'd just finished painting everything. The furniture was somewhat on the right place, we had all agreed on lunch and no one got covered in paint, for a change. But then, the real problems began.
'How do we get the TV set here?' I asked to no one specifically, so no one responded. 'Come on guys,' I sighed and turned to Taurus and Sag, who were eating the hot dogs I prepared. 'We only have our electricity in the kitchen now. How do we get it in the living room too?' 'Why don't you first figure out the shower problem,' Taurus said, and took another bite of our lunch. 'Sag is smelling like paint for days.'
'That's what you get when I have to wash myself in the sink!' Sagittarius protested and took another hot dog. 'You know, I'm really bored again. Are you sure you don't want to come along and play Mario Kart with me and Gem? I have to say, she's a good player. Not as amazing as I am, but still on average.'
I rubbed my hands over my eyes and let them go through my hair, as I groaned and plopped down in a chair. 'Wow, so much motivation, you two. Look, can we first finish those problems? It doesn't seem like dad will do anything about it, so it comes down to us.' 'You don't say,' Taurus sighed. He stood up, and walked up towards me. 'Listen, Libra. Maybe it's not really clear to you, but dad just left us. He and mum got divorced, dumped us in this place, and instead of helping us out, he's leaving us with all the shit. So I'm sorry you're not completely satisfied, but I can't help it, alright? I'm not a mechanic, I'm not a water-guy who can just make water appear and I'm not someone you can just complain to. You can use Sag for that, but not me, alright? And if you really want to complain about something, then how about the fact –'
Saved by the bell. Sort of.
I don't know what Taurus was going for, but someone was loudly knocking on the door and I gave my brother an annoyed look when I stood up to go for it. With a small hope it wouldn't be Gemini, I opened the door. It wasn't Gemini, but it also wasn't any of the other girls. It was a boy.
He looked about our age, and given the fact we were brothers who were separated by three years, he looked the most like my age. He was wearing a pair of black, squared glasses which didn't make him look like a nerd, but more like a cool hipster dude. His hair was messy, very messy, and he was wearing a sporty jacket with the letter "V" next to the zipper. Even before the moment he smiled, I knew who he was.
'Hi there! Let me introduce myself, before you ask me if I'm a burglar, which happened quite sometimes the first days I met new people. My name is Virgo, and from what I've heard from Pisces, you're probably... Taurus?'
I was a bit overwhelmed by him, especially when he mistook me for my grumpy brother. 'Eh – well, nice to meet you, Virgo. Unfortunately, you're wrong, my brother is Taurus and I'm Libra.'
Virgo frowned, but it quickly switched to a smile. 'Really? Well, but you're also a tall and muscled boy, so I guess it's in your family. Those are Pisces's words, not mine,' he added after this. 'Anyway, I understood you guys needed some help? Cables, water, and general stuff?'
It was my turn to frown now. 'Yes... how'd you know?' He waved my words away with a small gesture of his hand. 'Oh, Pisces caught you talking. The walls are pretty thin, you'll get used to it.'
'Right...' I mumbled. I don't know if it were his quick words or his sudden appearing, but Virgo made me pretty confused and it took some time for me to come up with an answer. He seemed to be waiting patiently for me to response, so I took a breath and put on a smile again.
'Well, thanks for your offer. We could really use some help here, especially if you're specialized in making our TV work, because I don't think there's any other distraction for my annoying brothers yet,' I laughed and Virgo laughed along. 'I see I'm right on time. Good; they don't call me "Virgo the Helpful" for nothing.'
'They really call you that?' I asked him, and while I said it, I let him inside and guided him to the living room. 'Pretty much every time another window breaks, or when Aries blocks the door for Leo and I have to unblock it – did the girls tell you about the Aries/Leo fight? Great,' he responded when I nodded. 'I'm one of the people who is neutral in that thing, so please don't pull me into it. And also...'
Virgo turned around and looked at me, with serious eyes through his glasses.
'...make sure you don't get into it either. You don't know how or when, but the moment you're in it there's no way out, and either Aries or Leo will hate you and destroy you for life.'
'Sounds legit to me,' Taurus' voice huffed from somewhere near the kitchen. I suddenly started hoping my brothers wouldn't act all weird around Virgo, but then I realized how this place was probably mainly called the Chaos Flat because of the girls next to us.
Something pushed me in my back, and when I stepped aside Taurus appeared in the opened gap. 'Well, what do you know. The first guy we meet here, finally, my brother said and grinned. 'I'm Taurus. I suggest you're the Virgo we heard some things about?'
'That indeed will be me,' Virgo said. 'Your brother Libra over here told me you could use some help with stuff around here?
It sounds very familiar,' he continued as he pulled a cable throughout the entire kitchen to our living room. 'I helped Pisces, Aries and Gem too with those things.'
'So, you lived here before they did?' Taurus asked him when we watched him connect some things behind the TV.
'Yes, and I'll tell you more: I was one of the first to live here. I think I came right after Cancer, before the Chaos Flat even existed. This place used to be called Rustic Nook, after this street, Rustic Street. I can even remember some of the people who used to live on the other floors.'
'What even happened to the other floors?' Sagittarius asked, as he tagged along right after we moved over to the bathroom to take a look at the shower. Virgo frowned and put his glasses on the sink, as he started pulling the shower head. 'Oh, it's a long story. It happened when all the members of this current flat moved in, which wasn't long after I started living here.'
A splash of water came right over his head, and with a sigh, he took of his jacket and put it aside. 'I've lived here since I was five; Pisces and the girls came here four years later. After them, it went quick – Capricorn and Aquarius came along barely a year after that, and it took another half year until we met Leo. I think the others floors were still livable until we were thirteen, which was the year in which the fight between those two rivals began.'
He flipped the shower switch and stepped back as water fell right out of it. 'Well, there you go. Is there any other problem I can fix – any other problem than a math's problem, you've got to ask those things to Aquarius. She's the book-smart one of the group, you know,' Virgo explained and put his still wet jacket back on. 'Math's, languages, she can do it. I'm only here for the real, practical problems, you see, like –'
'Can you make lunch other than pizza or hotdogs?' Sag asked excited, and when Virgo grinned widely and the smell of bacon and eggs spread through our apartment only five minutes later, Sagittarius got even more hyper.
'You really are amazing at helping people out!' he laughed and stuffed his mouth with another egg. I swallowed a piece of bacon and changed the channel on the TV – Taurus had put it on a sport's match – to a talk show, so I wouldn't have to hear thousands of supporters screaming and I turned to Virgo. 'Sag's right, really. But, I was wondering if you could tell us more about the history of this place?'
'Of course!' Virgo said from his chair next to the couch. He put away the empty plate and moved over to me, since Taurus and Sag now started a fight over who'd get the remote and what channel they were going to watch.
'Well, some history from before even Cancer and I moved in: this place was built about 25 years ago, meaning it's quite new; but the government first wanted a whole series of flats and apartments here, and probably create a new part to the city. But, they had to cut the wood next to this place to do that, and they decided to stop building more floors to this flat to start that first. Summarizing, forest protectors started protesting against it and like that, it didn't happen. But they also stopped working at this flat, leaving it small, fragile and not even fully constructed. They started a garage behind here, but didn't finish it, so Aries and Leo use it now to hide each other's stuff. If you ever lose something, go check over there, 'cause nine out of ten times it's there.
Still, the government approved this flat and people started moving in here. Alright, on to the part where we come in,' he said and smirked for a bit before going on. 'I moved here because my parents couldn't afford a bigger place. Only a few months later, they got divorced and my dad left off. It's been my mother and me until she got fired, and couldn't raise enough money. She's been placed into a helping home, but that was not that long ago. You can probably understand I was feeling rather lonely when I was younger, even with Cancer around, but I think you'll also understand that changed when the girls moved in.'
'Yeah, I can imagine that,' I said, as my thoughts went crazy on the fact how Aries and Leo – but well, probably Aries – scared three entire floors in one building enough for them to leave. 'Though I have to admit,' I quickly added, to which Virgo looked up, 'that I haven't noticed much of the name you give this place. Personally, this doesn't really strike me as a real chaos, to be honest. Or the concept of "chaos" isn't quite clear to me, that's another possibility.'
Virgo chuckled and leaned back in the chair. 'Well, to that I'll have to say that you're underestimating it. Though, I agree with you on that, it has been awfully silent those last days. You're lucky you're moving in on one of those rare, calm times, because I remember when Cap and Aquarius moved in. Leo wasn't even around those days, but Aries was on full level craziness. Aqua even had a mental breakdown for a few days, but that had more to do with the fact their parents had just gotten divorced too, and well, living with Capricorn must've helped too.'
From the part Virgo just told me, I made up a few things. First, it started to seem that everyone here had divorced parents, although I didn't know about Leo and this Cancer yet.
Also, I didn't know what Virgo meant with "those rare, calm times" but I really hoped it stayed this way. It was already exhausting enough to live here with my brothers, and I thought seeing at least one other person a day would be enough. I wasn't sure if I even wanted to know why exactly they called this the Chaos Flat, nor was I sure if I could handle to go through the chaos myself.
Third, and probably the most frightening to me, did he just mention someone having a mental breakdown? Alright, the moment this Aquarius-girl was coming back, I'd ask her about that right away, I told myself and turned to Virgo again, who was now caught up in a show on our TV.
Virgo's pov
'Nice catching up with you, Virgo,' Libra smiled as we walked back to the front door. I stepped over some boxes and smiled back. 'Same with you guys. Remember Sag, I always have some extra spaghetti at home for emergencies, so mainly when someone's hungry and they don't have any food themselves. Apartment 24, don't forget. And Taurus, just wait until Cap is back; he'll let you watch TV in his place whenever you want, without your brothers whining about the remote.' Sag grinned widely and even Taurus could crack a smile. I stepped out of the door and turned around on my heels.
'And Libra, believe me, the silence here is going to change for sure. Just wait until you know everybody here, you'll understand where the name of this place comes from. Or,' I said with a small pause and a wink in between, 'wait until everybody's knows you.' Libra's smile wasn't as bright as the others, but he seemed to appreciate my company anyways.
The door closed after another goodbyes, and I slowly walked back to my own place. Maybe Pisces was right after all, I really seemed to be quite good at making new friends. I stopped walking in front of apartment 25 and after some short thoughts, decided it would be good to share my experiences with the girls, so I grinned to myself and after a glance to their new neighbors, I knocked on the door.
