Explanations (and more)

     Libra's pov

The sounds kept repeating. Screaming, screeching. Very loud, echoing over and over again. As if it was to torture me. And maybe... maybe they wanted to. Or not. But do dreams really make that much noise?

My head was still bouncing from a searing headache and my hands were heavy when I lifted them to my head. What'd happened? Where was I? What'd happened?

Memories flew by like a roller coaster and I remembered everything; the yelling, the arguments, the water balloons...

And suddenly, it became clearer. I knew where I was – this was my bed, I was laying on my bed. And I realized what had actually happened; all of the fighting and discussions had just been a part of it. I just witnessed chaos. Although, I hoped I did. It couldn't possibly be any worse... right?

'Oh, good, you're awake! That really did take you some time, didn't it?'

It wasn't Sagittarius who sat next to me, or Taurus. It was Aquarius.

'What... what are you doing here?' I asked her. My voice sounded raspy, somehow, as if I'd screamed for a long time. Aquarius smiled at me from Sag's bed, but only answered my question when I sat up. 'Maybe I should first tell you what happened, last night. I don't think you can remember quite everything...'

'Last night?' I muttered, and indeed, the light that fell into the room via the window wasn't the same darker blue as it was before. It was a smooth, light blue, combined with fresh sun rays. I closed my eyes and sighed before I let her continue. 'Alright, tell me. Nothing can make this worse anyway.'

'Don't say that, it creates bad luck,' she responded, and when I looked up, she quickly added: 'I mean, according to Gemini. But it's true though, almost everyone who said it around here got bad luck, eventually. I said it, Leo said it, Cancer said it – but Cancer doesn't count. Cancer never has bad luck.'

My eyes opened up again and I frowned, as I couldn't follow a single bit of this conversation. 'Wait up, weren't you talking about last night? About last night's chaos? Because, this was chaos, wasn't it?'

Aquarius hesitated, making me terrified again. 'It wasn't?' I choked out, but she nodded and my heartbeat calmed down a bit. 'Well, it was a mild version of it. I think everyone was keeping down because of you being new and stuff, but the actual chaos mainly started after you passed out and you were dragged to your room.'

'Oh, great,' I sighed. 'Do I want to know what happened?' Aquarius laughed and leaned back in her position on Sag's bed. 'I'm positive you can handle it. You really missed out on the best parts; it didn't take long for Aries to try to hit people with the planks from the floor, but I think things really turned when Gem changed the water balloons for tomatoes.'

'Tomatoes?' I repeated, and she laughed again, with a soft, comforting smile. 'I know it sounds a little weird –' 'A little weird? She started throwing tomatoes and you call it a little weird? That's not weird, that's just simply ridiculous!' I yelled out.

It was just as if my head wouldn't want to believe what had happened, or what was happening. I needed explanations; how did this chaos thing even arise, or why? What made those people here hate each other so much – and even more important: I still had no idea why Aquarius was sitting in my room, on my brother's bed, trying to tell me what had happened last night. But, first things first.

I moved my hands over to behind my back and pushed myself up, so that I was sitting straight again. Aquarius was, as the last few minutes, patiently waiting for me to be ready. Almost as if she had done this before...

Instead of letting her continue her story, I asked her: 'So, last night was chaos, I passed out, but that still doesn't explain why you are here, and not one of my brothers. So...'

'Oh, your brothers were here,' she said, nodding along her sentence. 'They were the ones who brought you in after you fainted – although, both didn't really want to. They've watched you for over hours, I heard, until they got bored. I don't exactly know how it went, but this is what Gemini told me; this morning, around half past seven, Gem and Pisces heard strange things happening in the hall, and it turned out to be your older brother arguing with your dad. That's where the three sisters decided to get over here and entertain your brothers with Mario Kart and stuff, until around nine o'clock, when Lee found out about it, and warned me and Cap. Well, Capricorn immediately moved over to join in, but I wanted to make sure you were okay.' A small blush rose to her cheeks and her gaze moved away from mine for a second, until she looked back with her regular, caring expression. 'And well, that's what I've been doing for the past forty-five minutes.'

'So it's almost ten o'clock?' I checked, and I groaned when she nodded. Just great. I missed breakfast timing, I apparently missed out on catching up with Capricorn and it also seemed that my brothers didn't really care about whether I would, or wouldn't wake up. Perfect.

'Okay,' I mumbled and took a deep breath, before moving on to the next question. 'Now, I've been wondering for a while; how did the chaos here begin?'

You didn't have to be a genius to see Aquarius wasn't prepared for that question. She first frowned, opened her mouth but closed it again, and finally stood up, gesturing me to do the same. 'I think I should first explain some things before you'll understand. Follow me.'

Her last words were more a question than a statement, but I did so anyway, and walked after her into the living room, where we indeed found my brothers, the sisters from apartment 25 and Capricorn. It was clear Taurus and Sag were already in their element with the others, as they were yelling and shouting just as loud as the others to cheer for Gemini and Aries, who were racing against each other with Mario Kart. Aquarius lead me away from them, back into the hallway, as she started talking again: 'You should know that, whatever happens here during another chaos, nobody hates each other. Aries and Leo are the exceptions, of course, and things can get pretty bad between me and Cap sometimes, but a chaos always happens on one moment.'

'So whatever fights may have started last night, aren't going on now anymore?' I checked up. 'But that's completely illogical. That's like saying you hate each other in the morning, but not in the afternoon.' Aquarius turned around, this time with another beaming smile. 'Does the word chaos sound logical to you?' 'No,' I admitted. 'Great. One of the rules around here; you cannot dwell on things that happened during a chaos. Otherwise, they turn into real fights, sort of a hate relationship. We don't want that here.'

'Are there more rules I need to know?' I asked, following her through the front door and into the hall. The concrete was warmer than I remembered, and it was then I noticed I was barefoot. Actually, my entire outfit from last night had changed, I was now wearing my simplest pair of sweatpants with one of my white shirts, a combination I would only wear if I wasn't feeling too well. The girl in front of me noticed my thinking and smiled again. 'Don't worry, it's summer. Most of the people around here go like that a big part of the time. Yes, also the girls,' she answered when I frowned confused. 'Virgo and Leo must be the only exceptions. But Leo is just Leo – refusing to wear something that's just a tad related to Aries – and Virgo is simply a gentleman. Anyway, to answer your question: there indeed are more rules around here, though they are mostly just good advice. First up...'

Like me a few seconds ago, she frowned and folded here arms, as if she were to teach me something important. My mind wanted to make fun of it, but I decided everything I would hear now could have an impact on the rest of my time here. I was willing to take anything Aquarius would tell me.

'...you will have to learn Leo's period cycle.'

If I was drinking, I would've spit it out right over her. 'E-Excuse me?' I managed to get out, and instead of a laugh that told me she was fooling me, she frowned even more. 'Leo's period is a very important part, here. You should know exactly when it is that time of the month again, because if you talk to her on the wrong days –'

'Alright, I'll learn. Next rule, please,' I said, not entirely sure if I wanted to hear it. Aquarius let her arms fall down and turned around as she walked up to apartment 24. 'Next rule, or actually, a hint. If you need anything,' I noticed how she put extra stress on the word anything, 'Virgo is there. Believe me, he has and can do everything. Except for maths, I still outdo him in that.'

Aquarius smiled proudly, but before I could ask or say anything she'd moved on already to the apartment next to it. 'And, very important: don't enter apartment 23. We don't know what happened, both Aries and Leo claim to have nothing to do with it, but it's going down soon. Be careful around it, alright?' I felt like a child, nodding okay to his mother, even though I wouldn't compare Aquarius to my mother. She was sweet and explaining, that was, but instead of a mother she'd be more of a –

'And I think you'll already know about the second and third floor, or Aries would've kept her mouth shut about it,' Aquarius went on, and my thoughts were set onto something else. 'Wait, if your Leo's your best friend, then why do you call Aries by her real name instead of, you know, Dwarf?'

She looked at me again from her position in the hallway, with somewhat of confusion, clearly. 'I thought you'd have noticed that by now; the fact I am on Leo's side doesn't mean I also hate Aries right away. Didn't you see anything like that with Pisces or Gemini?'

A simple shrug was more in its place than words, but I don't think Aquarius minded. She told me more and more rules, hints and other "tricks" to handle around here, under which a lot of easy comebacks for Gem's sarcastic comments, how to fix broken windows and how there were a couple of bikes down in the basement, for if you wanted to get any further than just the store at the end of the road, which was called "The Rustic Store" and also known as Cancer's store. I think it was around lunch when she called a goodbye.

'Very nice to officially meet you,' I said, smiling myself. 'I mean, I heard a lot, but it's still something else than in real life.' 'Same to you,' Aquarius reacted, 'and if you ever have a boring task that includes something that slightly has to do with maths –' 'Got it,' I laughed, and opened the door. The hallway was filled with loud, bouncing music, with many laughs and yells from inside. 'Oh, great,' I muttered, giving Aqua a last look of despair before I made my way inside.

It was weird, I didn't feel like I wanted to shut my brothers down when I walked past the living room and I noticed the lamp was broken down. Sag flinched me an apologetic look, but I could only smile back and move over to my room, while a small part of me couldn't believe I'd ignored that. Perhaps Aquarius taught me more than just a few house rules of how to actually live through this without getting everyone pissed off.

     Aquarius' pov

I didn't mind Cap being back in our apartment again. I didn't mind him playing stupid games as he took in the couch. I didn't mind his voice yelling something I couldn't hear to me, as I walked to my own room while I accidently bumped into the door. I didn't mind.

However; I did mind Leo, who was waiting for me in my room and jumped up as I opened the door. 'Aqua, dear! I have some great news!' 'Tell me,' I said, but I didn't actually want to know, until she told me.

'The Ceremony! It's in a few minutes!'

My eyes grew bigger than the tomato Gemini threw to my head last night and I immediately forgot most of the few hours. 'Really? How do you know?' Leo giggled and grabbed my hands, as she pulled me back into the living room. 'Apparently your brother heard it from the Dwarf, and he passed it on to me. Isn't this excited, Aqua? I haven't had a Ceremony since – since my own, years ago! Come on, why don't you and Capricorn warn Virgo, I'm going to check on Cancer!'

I glanced at Cap, who shrugged with an innocent look on his face. 'What now; I just yelled at you to come back so I could tell you instead of her, but you didn't listen.' 'Whatever, just go tell Virgo already,' I said and walked right after Leo, as different thoughts entered my mind again.

I didn't mind Cap being a lazy ass, for once. I was back to thinking about everything I didn't mind, and instead of freaking out because of it – I am very down to earth, usually, and I mind everything, especially when Cap is involved – I let it into my head. Because, to be honest, I didn't mind not minding anything. Something in my head told me that telling Libra about the rules and all was one of the smartest things I had done so far. And I didn't mind if Cap would make funny comments about it. Even despite my inevitable trust in everything I already knew...

...I think I just fell in love with something new.
