Chaos is back
Taurus' pov
'So,' said Aries, after what seemed like minutes of silence, 'I guess we go in and let our lives be destroyed once again.'
Soon after Aries' most inspiring words, she and Gemini started moving towards what appeared to be the entrance, and I quickly followed them in their actions. Many things happened at that very moment; Libra was at my right side, smiling at me like only he could, while Sag was pulling my left arm and I could've sworn I saw Aries wink at me before she opened the door and I finally set foot in Orbis High.
It truly was nothing like I expected it to be. My old school was, well, what a school was supposed to be: grey walls, simple hallways, nothing special. Just... boring. This school was the exact opposite – and the fact I got that from just looking around the hallway, said a lot.
The walls weren't old and dark – they were a light shade of blue, with colourful graffiti all over them. On my left, hundreds of lockers found their place, while on my right, I found the way to the cafeteria. In front of me, the hallway continued and lead the way to some doors and a couple of staircases.
Before I could even say anything about it, Sag had already popped up right next to me. 'This is so much better than our last school!' he piped, and I was about to make a remark when Libra stole my sentence: 'For once, you might be right. This looks great, actually.'
'I'm sure those thoughts won't last long,' I muttered. My brothers already started giving me annoyed glances, when Aries grabbed the sleeve of my sweater. 'Come on, you three. Gem and I will give you a speed tour, because believe me, you will get lost.'
'Bet I won't, I can just follow you everywhere you go,' I chuckled softly when my brothers started following Gemini, and Aries was the only one around to hear. 'Well, you kind of have to,' she responded with a smile, 'we basically have every single class together.' The last part of her sentence faded away, thanks to Gem's loud voice trying to properly explain the buildings.
'Alright, so there are about a hundred classrooms in total – not exactly I think, I mean, I must've counted them at some point, but I forgot – and they're all numbered with both a number and a letter – don't ask me why, well, you can ask me, but I won't give you an answer back, and if I answer you it'll probably be –'
'Mind if I take it from here, Gem?' Aries interrupted her, and continued where Gem left off: 'Simply said, you can find classrooms A1-A49 in this building, and B50-B98 in the other one. How to get there? Well, you can be stupid and go outside, but if you're not stupid you can just follow the bridge overhead to the other side. And yes, it really is that easy.'
'The janitor is here to the left, cafeteria is straight ahead – please try and take some time to taste the amazing sandwiches – computer labs are in the B section and you can find the library at the end of the hall,' Gemini proudly stated, pointing at every direction she told us. 'Now, if I'm not mistaken, the bell will ring in a couple of seconds, and since Sag, Cap and I have the first hour off, I wish all of you a good first day at school and –'
She was, yet again, interrupted, however this time by the ringing of the bell, and before I could do anything else, Aries had already grabbed my arm again and was now dragging me through the hall, leaving a bored looking Capricorn, my baby brother and an excitingly waving Gemini behind.
Aquarius' pov
I had to say, even though both Leo and Cancer had openly complained about having to go to school again – and even though I'd joined them occasionally – it wasn't as bad as I had imagined. Sure, Literature wasn't my favourite subject and it sure wasn't fun having it as a first period on Monday, but it was just fine – as long as some people didn't manage to get themselves dragged out of class again due to fighting...
I glanced over at Leo, who was walking just in front of me, and Cancer, talking to Scorpio, and then quickly looked around. Aries was nowhere to be seen, but I knew she was in our class; meaning she also had Literature with us. Honestly, even though I had nothing to do with the fight between her and Lee – alright, almost nothing – I still hoped both of them would keep it down. Would be nice to have a quiet lesson for once.
'You've been kind of silent since we arrived here,' Cancer's voice surprised me, and I turned my head to look at her. 'Oh, you know. Just... thinking.' Awful response. Especially because it led to her asking: 'Thinking about...' After which she nodded her head towards Libra, who was walking somewhere next to Scorpio.
My head must've turned bright-tomato in an instant, because Cancer started laughing softly and nudged my shoulder. 'C'mon, Aqua. I'm only teasing you. But, seriously...' We had reached the classroom in the meantime, and as we walked in, she lowered her voice. '...we will have to talk about this. Soon.' 'Again?' I groaned. Conversations with Cancer weren't that bad, they were just very long and quite haunting afterwards. She always wanted to know everything – which was still better than having conversations with Leo, I realized. Lee almost never let me finish my sentences, and she somehow always managed to turn the conversation around to her.
My thoughts were interrupted again by another voice, and I had almost shouted "stop it, Cancer!" into Leo's face. 'Aqua, dear, I know this is the first lesson on the very first day of school, but I was hoping you wouldn't mind if I sat next to Scorpio? I mean, he's new here and all, so –' 'No problem,' I smiled, but on the inside, I was struggling against my own words. If I couldn't sit down next to Leo, guess who'd go and sit next to me?
But surprisingly, it wasn't Cancer. She plopped down a desk behind mine, and when I turned around with the question clear on my face, all she did was wink and point to something in front of the classroom.
Or, in this case, someone.
'Hey, can I...' Libra's voice said, but before I could even take a proper look at the giant smirk on Cancer's lips or say something myself, she had already done it for me. 'Of course you can sit next to Aqua! She wouldn't mind, would you, now?' Cancer asked me, and without waiting for me to answer, she turned to Pisces, who took the seat next to her.
Such great friends I have.
'Thanks,' Libra smiled, and placed his bag on the desk. 'I would actually sit next to Taurus, but it seems he's traded me for Aries instead.' 'Well, I know my bit about the trading part,' I mumbled, gazing over at Leo who was happily talking to Scorpio. I wasn't lying when I said that; it'd happened many times before that Leo would come up to me and ask me if it was alright if she sat down next to someone else. And I would just say yes, mainly because I knew either Cancer or Pisces would sit next to me, but also because I knew Lee wouldn't accept a no.
'Good morning!' a familiar voice said, and when I looked up, I noticed more people were happy to see Miss Linguely again. She taught us Literature last year, and she was one of the only teachers who hadn't sent out either Leo or Aries once. I remember Leo telling me last year how she hated every single teacher in school because of how they treated her when she was annoyed or didn't get the homework, except for Miss Linguely. And I couldn't disagree with her; no one could. Probably because her classes were actually fun to go to and didn't involve any screaming, cursing or threatening with upcoming tests and pop quizzes.
After I quickly whispered all of this to Libra, Miss Linguely walked up to the front of the class and everybody turned silent. 'Good morning, again,' our teacher said, and as she received a few "good mornings" back, she continued: 'For the new ones in our class, my name is Jacqueline Linguely, Miss Linguely for you. I will be your Literature teacher for the upcoming year.'
'Big surprise there,' a male voice from somewhere behind me muttered, and as both Cancer and I turned around to see who it was, Libra just sighed and seemed to be annoyed – and suddenly I realized who must've said it. Miss Linguely seemed to notice it as well, because she pointed towards Taurus with a smile. 'You, sir. You're new. What's your name?'
'Taurus,' he stated, politely smiling back. Our teacher nodded along, silenced for a second or so, before she pointed again, only this time to person next to him. 'You do realize you're sitting at quite a dangerous spot there, right next to Aries?'
'Oh, I realize that,' answered Taurus, and I could've bet I saw something sparkle in his eyes as he said it. 'But I'm good here.'
'You're decision,' said Miss Linguely. 'Now, I think I saw another unfamiliar face around here...' 'Yep, my brother,' Taurus stated before Libra could even try to raise his hand. 'He's right there, next to Aquarius.' 'I'm Libra,' Lib confirmed, gazing towards his brother with a slight look of annoyance. 'We moved in about two months ago.'
'Well, I surely hope you'll like it around here,' responded Miss Linguely. 'Now, if everyone would be so kind to put your books away again, then we'll start this new schoolyear with a short film, alright?'
I was pretty sure everyone was cheering when the sounds of bags opening again and laughing filled the classroom – and why wouldn't they be? This was a great opportunity to forget the things that had yet to come this year. Which was exactly why everyone here loved Miss Linguely; because she made us forget about bad marks, difficult tests and, most importantly: the situation back in The Chaos Flat.
Capricorn's pov
'Ugh, finally,' I groaned as my bag hit the desk in front of me. 'It felt like P.E. would never end.' 'Tell me about it,' Sag yawned, 'but hey, that teacher was really nice.' 'Of course!' piped Gemini, still as energetic as always – even after these exhausting two hours. 'Mister Prince is the best teacher ever!' 'What about Miss Linguely?' I asked, but Gem's answer was cut off as our French teacher walked into the room.
'Bonjour! It's such a delight to see all of you on this very first day of the year. Now, would you please open your books at page...'
'Oh my, she's even more boring than the guy we had last year,' I muttered to Sagittarius, who was seated next to me. Gem, sitting behind us, chuckled softly and leaned in, so we could both hear her whisper: 'Bet you both three dollars she'll send us out sometime this very week?' 'You're on,' I told her, at the same time Sag responded.
We were silenced by a glare from our teacher, who told us to read the text on the page we had apparently just opened, and if anyone would talk she'd send them straight to Mister Monar.
To clarify: Mister Monar is the principal, and it was totally fine if you'd get send there. He was almost the nicest guy every – almost, our gym teacher won that contest – because he wouldn't make you do anything. He would ask you to tell your story, explain why you were there, and then he'd gossip with you about the teacher who sent you out. If you were lucky and you'd be sent out in one of your last hours, Mister Monar would allow you to go home. Not only that, you wouldn't even have to do the homework from that very lesson. Honestly, if it wasn't for him, I think everyone would be much more worried about being sent away.
My eyes quickly went through the French words on the pages, and sent the all known signal to my brain that they didn't understand it and were too lazy to try. I tried to lean back in my chair as quietly as possible, and gazed around. Next to me, Sag was struggling to decipher a word from the text, and if I turned just a bit more, I bet I could see Gem do the same thing. Of course – we all tried to do our best in the beginning of the year; show off our fake motivation, be nice to the teachers, all that crap. However, I never thought my fake motivation could drop this fast.
I slowly started to tear one of the pages out of my notebook – slowly, so the teacher wouldn't hear it. As soon as the piece of paper was freed from its cover, I took out my pen – you guessed it, slowly – and wrote down: "Can't believe we're wasting our time here" and passed it on to Sag.
He looked down at it with surprise, then smirked widely as soon as he read the words on it. With a swift move, he'd stolen my pen and scribbled something next to it, moving the note back to me.
"Yeah, I'm so bored. We don't have any classes after this, right?"
Before I could take back my pen to respond, Gemini swooped in and stole the small piece of paper. Both Sag and I turned around slightly, and after Gem was done writing her own words on the thing, she held out the paper with a grin.
"Nope. Honestly, I can't even think of any other teacher in this school who's more boring than this one."
I didn't even try to hide the grin on my face, when I turned back to Gem and saw from her sly smile that she was thinking of the same thing as I was. Sag was obviously confused, gazing from Gemini back to me, as I slowly turned back around and, without care this time, zipped open my pencil case.
Our teacher immediately looked up, with that annoying, suspicious look teachers only have when they're trying to catch students doing something wrong. Her eyes shot to my desk right away, and specifically, to the little folded paper between my fingers. The loud noise of her chair moving over the floor screeched through the classroom, and before I knew, her heels were click-clacking towards the three of us.
'Well, well, well,' she spat, as she snatched the little piece of paper from my hand and unfolded it. Her eyebrows rose while she studied it, and with a quick look around the room, I noticed everyone else had stopped reading and was watching us. With all reason.
'So What have we here.'
I could just picture Gemini, sitting there behind us in exactly the same position as me – trying to hold back a laugh, pretending to be innocent students who just wanted to have some fun during a boring class and were ready to be sent out to the principal.
But clearly, our teacher didn't quite take the hint.
...or perhaps she did.
She did something none of us had expected – she started laughing. Not just a chuckle, or a girly giggle, but a real, loud laugh.
'Nice try. But I've seen worse.' She smiled, and with a simple flick of her fingers, the piece of paper landed on my desk again. 'If you thought this would get you a free ride to Mister Monar, you were horribly mistaken. I'm not letting you get away that easy.' I couldn't do anything but stare at the piece of paper in front of me, and as I, Sag and Gem listened to the click-clacking of her heels and the squeaking of her chair, we all realized the same three things.
One: this woman was evil.
Two: this woman had to be defeated.
Three: if she'd really seen worse, that was fine.
We would give her worse.
