You Haunt Me (CapricornXScorpio)
"Make a wish, Capri!"
Capricorn turned around, her white sun dress floating with her. Her blonde hair, dyed purple, dripped onto the tile around the pool, still wet from her swim. A purple cloud of water swirled around her feet, tainting her skin.
Scorpio, the same age as her, ten, dashed up behind her, bare feet on the slick floor. In his hands, some sort of flower was huddled, safe from the outside world. He stopped in front of her, his feet skidding dangerously on the slick ground.
"Scorp..." Capricorn frowned, pretending to dig through her mind for his name. She knew it already, like the back of her hand. But she didn't want to admit that to him. Because that would lead to friendship, and that was as sure to sink as the Titanic.
The boy's face fell slightly, but he perked up fast enough it might have been her imagination. "It's Scorpio." He finished for her, before smiling. "But you were close!"
Despite herself, Capricorn could feel the edges of her mouth perking up because of him. Just by looking at him, she could tell he was an angel. Dark brown, shaggy hair fell over his green eyes, full of wonder like a small child. He even still had some of his baby fat, freckles dusting his pale nose.
And his smile just killed her.
She blushed, grateful for her fringe of purple hair, covering half her face. After a moment to recompose herself, she smiled back, letting the rare feeling of happiness course through her.
"Oh!" He exclaimed suddenly, opening his hands to reveal the object inside. "I thought you might like this." Inside was a puffy dandelion, fat with it's seeds. He held it up for her to see, and in that moment a breeze swept through, blowing a section of it away.
"No!" He shouted, reaching out at the retreating seeds. After a few seconds, he gave up, shoulders sagging as he turned back to her. "I'm sorry, it's gone."
He teared up, a few tears streaming down his cheeks. The girl frowned, leaning down to his height. "Shut up, Scorpio." She frowned, taking the dandelion out of his grasp. He glanced up, dark hair blocking his gaze. Capricorn held it up to the sun, using her other hand to block the wind as she blew, scattering the tufts across the lawn before glancing back at him.
"Just because a piece of you is gone doesn't mean you're broken." She muttered, walking back towards the pool house. "Don't ever forget that."
Bewildered, the boy stared until she disappeared inside, wondering what she meant. He wouldn't find out until twelve years later.

Capricorn jerked awake, breathing heavily as sweat soaking her blonde head. She fumbled for the light, nearly pulling the lamp off her desk before snatching her glasses.
Nobody was there.
Legs shaking, she stumbled out of her bed, scattering the notes that she had laid on top of herself. One stuck to her foot as she staggered into the kitchen, slamming a glass down onto the counter before filling it with red wine.
It looked like blood.
She slugged it down, grateful when the warm fuzzy feeling spread to her head. It's better like this, she told herself, refilling the glass, this is how it has to be. The words had become her mantra, the thing keeping her going for the last few months between company meetings, threats, questionings and the absence of him.
She frowned, the glass empty. Looking around, everything was spinning, a perfect oblivion. Sliding onto the floor, wineglass still in hand, she closed her eyes, forcing herself to go through the past few days. Why would her sister do something like this? Killing their parents?
Hot white pain seeped through her body at the thought of it all. If only Scorpio was here... She imagined his strong freckled arms wrapping around her, protecting her from this world. His lips whispering into her hair. The thought warmed her comfortably, only to freeze her a few seconds later when she came to her senses.
Capricorn sighed, grabbing the wine bottle and stumbling towards her bedroom. It was going to be a long night.

Her mother, smiling.
Such a rarity, Capricorn nearly screamed as she looked up from her book. Her mother was wrapped in a coat, while she herself sat in her bikini on the lawn chair. The older woman was shivering uncontrollably, her bleached blonde hair falling out of her hat.
"Honey, you should come inside," her mother said, using a trembling hand to pull her up to her feet. Capricorn stood still for a second, confused at her mother's words. She never came outside, barely was ever even out of the wine cellar.
It was even stranger to see her sober. It was terrifying.
"Come inside." Her mother repeated, squeezing her hand harder. Capricorn swallowed down her terror and followed her through the glass doors, her body suddenly cold though she never got chills.
She followed the woman into the entertainment parlor, which she had never seen any use for. Her dad 'entertained' his buddies on the golf course, and her mom had friends that were few and far in between. She sat down across from the blonde in a squishy chair, still the same comfort as it had been through it's last ten years of neglect.
However, it was doing very poorly, as she was still as stiff as a board. But she couldn't blame that on the chair, when her mother's icy gaze bore through her.
"Your father has been working very hard, and has finally bought out the Karasuno company, the one your neighbors owned. As a favor to them, your father is letting their son live with us and work for us." Her mother paused, sighing, "No arguments from you, okay?"
Capricorn nodded stiffly, her mother's last words more of a demand than a request. Her mother sighed again as if disappointed, and left, heading towards the kitchen. The girl waited until her footsteps were gone to move.
Scorpio was going to live with them? Capricorn sighed before stopping, horrified she was turning into her mother. That was one path she didn't want to go down. Alcohol everyday, no friends... it sounded awful.
She stood up, sweeping her blonde hair out of her way. Her feet began to walk towards the back door once again, when a figure appeared on the other side of the glass. She covered her mouth, realizing in relief it was Scorpio. He was pressing his freckled face against the glass, hopeful eyes lighting up when he saw her.
Capricorn pulled open the door, looking down at him. He was still smaller than her, despite the fact they were both fourteen. However, he was getting there, forehead at her eye level.
"Hey, sorry I forgot the spare key you gave me in the car my parents took." He chuckled, looking up at her with apologetic eyes. She felt heat rising at her cheeks already, and quickly turned away. People were not supposed to feel this way towards their friends. So neither would she.
"It's fine," she muttered, refusing to meet his eyes. "Just remember them next time." Her thoughts ran wild, imagining them together, dating, married....
He smiled up at her, breaking her thoughts by saying, "I guess I'm going to be your new roommate!" Capricorn stared, blushing. She had read plenty of books and fan fictions where... stuff ended up happening between roommates.
Scorpio began to blush as well, realizing his mistake. "Sorry, sorry!" She gushed, waving his hands wildly, "I didn't mean- well I wouldn't- I'm not-"
Capricorn hushed him with a hug, pressing his face into her. "Shut up, Scorpio." He muttered something unintelligible before falling silent, leaning into her.
They stayed there until her mother called, shouting at her to show her guests to their new rooms. She smiled at Scorpio, ignoring the stares from her mother as she lead him down the hall.

Capricorn woke up to the blare of her alarm, feeling uncomfortably warm all over. She shifted, the notes that she hadn't bothered to clean up in her drunken state lying haphazardly across the sheets. She sighed, realizing that her worst fear had come true. She was her mother.
Shivering at the thought, she began to clean up the mess of notes. The satisfying crumple of paper in her hands began to quiet the pounding of her hangover, one piece of paper at a time.
She was about to crumple up another, when she noticed it was not like the others. Written in sloppy red pen, it said;
Dear Sister,
I saw the notes, but I can't forgive you enough to come home, perhaps ever. Why did you do it? Odds are you'll never tell me, but don't think I'm coming back crying for you. I've met an amazing man, and we're starting over. Don't come looking for me, you won't find anything there.
I'll always love you, Cancer
Capricorn stared at the note a for few seconds, before folding in on herself to cry. "I'm sorry," She muttered, her hands clenched to her sides, "but it wasn't me."
Is this what her sister had thought the entire time? That she had murdered them? The memory of that day came flooding back to her. Her sister crouching over Scorpio and her parents, blood on her hands. Looking around in horror at what she had done.
It had to be Cancer.
Didn't it?
She dug through the garbage can, unfolding note after note, hoping for another clue. The interrogators flashed through her mind. The white light above her, the rest of the room shrouded in darkness.
"Mam, Scorpio was not a victim. His body was not there. You must've been hallucinating in the panic of the situation." The stoic man said, his voice expressionless as she cried herself dry.
"You don't understand! I saw the body..."
"Mam, his body was not found. He was not there."
Capricorn shook her head, blonde hair flying as she anxiously discarded her notes, hope plummeting to the floor. Scorpio was dead. She had seen the body.
So where had he gone?
There was a final note at the bottom. She opened it up, feeling tears spill over when her own handwriting stared back at her. She ripped the note down the middle, not caring what it once said and chucked it as far as she could. However, it only floated a few inches, because it was paper.
A bubble of anger burst inside her, before deflating just as fast. No matter how much she chased them, they would always be one step ahead, herself a step behind.
She reached for her phone, sitting next to the lamp on her desk, pulling hard. It popped out of it's plug and fell hard to the floor, a crack stretching across the screen like a spiderweb.
Capricorn muttered a curse, picking it up and unlocking it. The last picture she and Scorpio had ever taken together was her home screen, a selfie he took kissing her cheek. She smiled at the screen, her anger falling away. She longed for him to do that again.
She scrolled through her notifications, mostly comments from followers on her modeling page. She kept scrolling until she came to one that stood out. It was a reminder, telling her to look through her notes.
Her heart involuntary leaped as she clicked open the app, checking through things she hadn't seen in years until s had came to the most recent one.
September 31 2:04am
Last night. Her sister had been here last night. She continued reading.
Hey Capri, it's Scorpio. I'll explain it all to you, so just sit back and read. I had hoped they would've found the murderer by now, but I suppose that's not true, judging by your notes. (Sorry I read them) Anyways, the murderer is not your sister, nor is it you.
The murderer is your mother, and well... me.
I have no means to explain this, and in this note is not the way to do it. I can't tell you much else, just in case someone else finds this, but don't worry.
And all those years ago, you were right. Just because a piece of you is gone doesn't mean you're broken. Just because I'm here and you're not there, we're not broken.
I will see you again, at September's end. At your place.
I love you. Don't ever forget that.
Capricorn smiled, closing out of the app to look at the picture of them together. "Thank you." She whispered, stroking a thumb across his picture. "I won't ever forget."
She shut down the device and returned it to the desk before glancing at the calendar on the wall. Pulling out a red pen she had been writing the notes with, she circled September 31st, scribbling a 12pm in the center.
After that, she slumped onto the bed. All she needed to do was wait until the night. She fell into a blissful sleep for the first time in months.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The night before of the murder had been like any other. Capricorn and Scorpio, snuggled tight next to each other in her bed, passing kisses back and forth as they giggled. Legs entangled, fingers twined together, lips on lips. But nothing more.
Never any more.
Tonight, Capricorn wished they had never agreed to never o all the way. Scorpio, now that they were both in their twenties, was the kind of adorable handsome that you only see in the magazines. A pale tan, dark freckles standing out like stars in the moonlight flitting through her windows. His muscles, small but strong, embraced her tightly. His eyes, pouring over her like she was an angel.
She loved him so much it hurt. So she stayed behind the lines they had set, neither daring to step over. Simply happy in a blissful love.
The next morning however, was complete hell.
Capricorn woke up to cold sheets, alone in her own bed. This was no different than usual, since her mother would freak if she saw them together. She stumbled out into the hallway, her now blonde hair tussled on her head, her vision still fuzzy.
It was when she saw the red trail and the knife she knew shit had gone down. She stared at the object, twisting it over in her hands. Splattered red. Clutching it in her hand, she pressed herself against the wall, breathing hard.
Rounding the corner, she had burst into the kitchen to see three dead bodies, the red river now an ocean. Her mother, father and lover drowning in it.
Cancer standing over them, blood on her hands. Staring in horror at what she had done. That's when it all went to hell. Capricorn began screaming, Cancer startling and screaming back. The blonde ran to the alarm, punching in the emergency code, getting it correct the third time.
Turns out, machines can scream too. The sound was pained, high screeching sound that pounded into her head as if it had come from her. The scene slowing down around her. Cancer running for the door, red hair flying.
After that, it was only sirens, officers, and numbness.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Capricorn awoke to the sun, shining through the blinds in the window. That's when she realized she had missed him. September's end was over. She had slept right through it.
"Shit..." she muttered, checking the time on her phone. 7:30 a.m. "SHITSHITSHIT!" She pulled open her notes, praying for something from him. Anything.
It was blank.
She swore again, louder this time, and ran out into the hallway, realizing she was late for work how's that her release was over. It was time for her to put down the alcohol and be a real person once again.
Right before she entered the kitchen, she stopped, a smell hitting her nose. Warm and savory, it tickled her tongue, her mouth watering. Capricorn frowned, common sense making her pause. The maids would not arrive for another hour to clean. So what was the smell?
Peeking around the corner, Capricorn teared up at the sight. Bacon sizzling on the stove, eggs right next to them. Dark toast popping out of the toaster. Fresh milk in a glass. A man in an apron was shuffling around the kitchen.
"Scorpio..." The blonde breathed, his name forming on her lips. Her rush forgotten, she stared in wonder at whet was in front of her.
He turned and flashed a smile, his eyes lighting up. Capricorn ran to him, nearly tripping over her own feet in desperation. He was finally here. Real. Not just a memory. She stumbled over to him, touching his face in fear that it was just her imagination. He was real. He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close.
They stayed there for mere seconds before breaking apart, Capricorn wishing it had lasted longer. Scorpio gestured towards the kitchen, "I decided if I was going to drop in uninvited, I might as well cook you up something. Looks like you haven't eaten well in a little while." He gestured once again towards the wine cooler, cluttered with half filled wine bottles.
The blonde shook her head, feeling shameful. She really had been becoming her mom. A few tears started falling at the thought, silently slipping down her cheeks.
"Hey, hey!" Scorpio put a finger on her chin, pulling her head up to his. "This is my fault, not yours." Capricorn nodded quietly, not entirely believing it herself.
"Anyways..." he continued, sweeping a length of dark hair out of his eyes. It was now nearly down to his shoulders, as opposed to when he left, cropped fairly short. "Are you hungry?"
She flashed a smile at the thought of real food. "Naturally!" They both laughed as they plated heaps of bacon and eggs before sitting down at the dining table, the window to the city open, blinds gone.
It was beautiful. It was perfect. The morning rays of sun peeking over the skyscrapers, streets still sleeping. Capricorn sheepishly glanced at Scorpio, blushing and ducking her head when he was staring right back.
"I love you, you know that?" He chuckled, reaching to sweep her hair out of her eyes. She looked back up at him. Surrounded by the morning light, he really was an angel. He was her angel.
She smiled, "I love you, too." Everything was perfect. They ate and talked and laughed, simply happy in one another's presence. Everything was perfect, until she dropped the question.
"So what exactly happened that night?"
Scorpio nearly choked on his milk, coughing for a second before asking, "What?" Capricorn frowned. He clearly knew what she was talking about.
"What happened?" She repeated, a little more forceful this time.
He just stared for a second, his moth opening and closing, like something wanted to come out. However nothing did. Scorpio put a hand to his head, appearing at least a few years older with exhaustion.
"Scorpio?" The blonde asked, suddenly worried. He looked frail, like the boy in the gardens all those years ago. A dandelion, the slightest breeze almost toppling him. "Are you okay?"
He looked up, cracking a pained smile. "Yeah, it's fine. It's just..." Pausing for a moment, he looked out over the city, eyes glazed. As quickly as it happened he snapped out of it. "That's probably a story for another time."
Scorpio began to stack the plates, kissing her forehead softly. "Can you find us a good show to watch?" He muttered, before putting all the plates in the sink.
"Yeah." Capricorn replied, more to herself to anyone else. She walked into the living room, turning on the television. Some anime was playing what looked like volleyball, a little redhead spiking onto the other side of the court. But she couldn't focus. What had happened?
What had made him look that way?
She picked out a different anime about ice skating as Scorpio sat down, wrapping his arms around her. Screw work. She had bigger problems to worry about than work. She glanced at the boy next to her.
Capricorn wanted to know. Needed to know what had made him disappear for all those days. But Capricorn felt that in that moment, silence was bliss. So she stayed quiet, resting her head on his chest.
Broken people needed time to heal. So she would give him that time. After all, they both needed it.
