In Too Deep (GeminiXAquarius)

The night was perfect. A bright moon was swimming on the cold lake, it's light distorted on the water. It barely rippled besides the sleek yacht that slid over the water. It's sail was limp like a dead bird, sweeping the polished wooden deck.

Everything was perfect. A pair of sun chairs sat on the deck, their owners absent. From a window, yellow light shown onto the deck, lighting it up. Inside the cabin was a kitchen. Unlike the rest of the yacht, it was a mess. The rosewood cabinets were scratched and torn from their hinges. Cans and produce were spilled across the tiled floor, dented and smashed. The fridge was open, spilling frosty air into the room. A red splatter was on the cabinets, streaking across the entire kitchen. The back door was wide open, leading into the night.

No, not everything was perfect.

A boy stood out by the ocean, a broken wine bottle in his hand. Red on his hands. Staring out to the ocean. Far away, a girl was floating on the icy lake. She bobbed for a moment, before disappearing under the water.

No, nothing was perfect. Everything was wrong. Everything.

The boy witnessing the scene turned around and ran back inside. Through the kitchen. Down the stairs. Into the bedroom. Under the covers. There he shivered in total shock of what he had seen. He squeezed his wrist, trying to wake up out of this nightmare.

"Shit, shit, shit!" He whispered to himself, squeezing harder to the point he bled. Fighting back tears, he pulled his hand away. It came off red. "It did happen... I was right. I never should've let Aquarius be with my brother. Every one of his exes ends up the same way. Dead."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Deep, dark water was closing in on the girl, flowing into her lungs faster as the surface became a distant memory. She reached out a weak hand towards the sky, but it was futile. Blood loss had her head spinning, and her eyes stung from the effort.
Aquarius gave in, letting the inky darkness wrap its way around her. Her jet black hair waved around her like a sea creature, waiting to drag her down. She closed her eyes, and let her thoughts take over.
~~~memory 1~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Aquarius? That's a funny name!" Aquarius opened her eyes at the call of her name to see a boy no older than six with white blonde hair staring at another little girl. She was about the same age, with dark hair, pale skin and big, blue eyes.

The girl was her, or at least a younger version.

Looking around, Aquarius realized she was at her old school, out on the miniature playground that had once seemed so big. But everything seemed washed of color, except for herself. Scowling with confusion, she turned back to the conversation.

Young Aquarius made a frown, staring back at the other child darkly. "Well Gemini is a weird name too!" She shot back, a classic kindergarten insult. Aquarius resisted the urge to interfere, when she realized that they hadn't even noticed her.

Could they even see her? She stepped in between the two, but they stared through her like she was a ghost. Maybe she was.

"Well then," replied Gemini, smiling a mouth full of baby teeth, "we can have weird names together!"

Little Aquarius tentatively took his hand before nodding. "I would like that."

"Me too. We should stay together forever!" He smiled again, surprising the girl. Aquarius felt bad for herself. Before Gemini, she had never really had a friend.

"Yeah, okay." The black haired girl replied, holding his hand tighter. And with that, they ran away, leaving Aquarius in the dust.

The scene washed out completely, until the girl was left drifting in a white void of nothingness.

~~~memory 2~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once color returned, the two children were older, perhaps eight. Aquarius stood outside the door if the room, and looked through the skinny window. Thus time they were in the principal's office after little Aquarius had gotten into a fight, Gemini there to back her up.
The principal muttered something to the pair, and her younger self began to cry, hiding her face with her hair. Gemini jumped in front of her and yelled, "Screw you!" To the principal, which was not tolerated at that age. Aquarius laughed at the memory from outside the door.
Was this her life flashing before her eyes? She frowned, as she had always figured it would go by faster. Back in the room, both of the children got detention, Gemini for using 'inappropriate language.'
Aquarius had nearly forgotten this memory, so far back in her brain that it had taken death to remember it. The white void was closing in on her once again, and she willed it t take her to the next scene.
~~~memory 3~~~~~~~~~~~~

This time, they were twelve years old. They were drawing in art class, some oil painting of sorts. The class was spaced around the room in a circular formation, each person on separate easels. Aquarius stood in the middle of the area, still shocked stiff from the last memory. Had she really been that much of a bitch to him? She hadn't originally thought so, but now she wasn't so sure.

Back in the time loop (references ;), or whatever it was, Gemini and Young Aquarius stood across the room, stealing secret glances over their backs, making her smile. They brushed color onto the pale canvas, creating messy images.

The art teacher went around to each student, reminding them that the theme was something they loved. Aquarius followed the teacher around, stopping at Gemini's. She had forgotten that he was an artist. She stopped and watched, mesmerized, as he stroked the canvas with a delicate hand.

Some time later, they turned up with the finished product. Hers was a messy image of a flower which she had thrown away upon returning home. Gemini's however, was beautiful.

Young Aquarius noticed a second before he turned it away from her eyes in embarrassment. It wouldn't be until later she would realize the subject. It was her.

And the scene changed.

~~~memory 4~~~~~~~~~~~
Aquarius opened her eyes to a familiar memory that had haunted her since the day it had happened. She was tempted to look away, but something in her forced her to watch. It was torture, like seeing a movie again and knowing that your favorite character wouldn't make it.
This was when they were both starting high school, around the age of fourteen. They were on the roof of his house, staring at the stars, pointing out their constellations in the night air. Snuggled together in a blanket on a lawn chair, they smiled, unknowing the sour lemon life was about to chunk in their faces.
"Look, our stars are close like us!" The young girl said, grinning. Gemini smiled back, his shoulder-length hair falling over his blue eyes.
Suddenly, he put a hand on the back of her head and put his lips on hers. Aquarius cringed from where she was standing. She knew where this was heading. But the same feeling kept her eyes staring at the couple.
Young Aquarius pushed away quickly, trying to seem like she was disgusted. But she wasn't. She liked him, but didn't want to. Back then, his older brother had been a dream, so unlike Gemini. Short, dark hair, brown eyes, and a killer jawline. Plus, he was only a year above her, making him totally accessible.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that," He said, his face darkened as he turned away.
Young Aquarius wiped her mouth in forced disgust as she leapt to her feet. "Like hell you shouldn't have!" She screamed at him, allowing her words to soak in before she continued.
I was such a bitch, Aquarius thought reluctantly as she watched her younger self stomp down the stairs. She expected the scene to change again, but instead, it stayed a few seconds longer. Confused, she walked over to Gemini's hunched form, wondering if she was missing something.
His blonde locks whipped in the wind as he sat, head in his hands. Sobs racked his body violently, his crying loud. "I'm sorry!" He repeated into his arms.
Aquarius turned away. Staring at the open door leading down into the house. If she remembered correctly, she had gone down to his room and stripped her possessions from it before leaving abruptly. As she flew down the steps, Aquarius hoped she wasn't too late.
She wasn't sure if she could do anything, but she had to try.
Her feet lead her in a still familiar direction of his room, where she found herself angrily packing her bags, stuffing everything she owned into them carelessly.
"Stop it, you bitch!" She shouted at the young girl, praying for a reaction. The girl whipped her head up, looking around in shock.
"Who's there?" She growled, pulling a vase off the shelf in self defense. Aquarius was confident that this was definitely NOT the way things had gone the first time.
"It's just... you." Aquarius replied, unsure what to say the the girl. What could she say? "Why are you running from him?"
Aquarius expected an answer, but instead the girl set down the case and continued packing, chuckling sadly to herself.
"I must be insane. I let go of the only person who loved me for a wild card, and now I'm talking to myself. I guess I better get used to it."
The world turned white again.
~~~memory 5~~~~~~~~~

Once again, she wakes up in a memory she'll probably never forget. Her younger self, now fifteen, was riding in the passenger seat with Gemini's brother driving, belting out to country songs with him. Gemini sits awkwardly in the back seat like a child, shooting glances at the girl up front.

Aquarius is seated next to him, shifting around nervously. She wasn't quite sure why, as he couldn't see her. She now knew he could hear her, but she sure as hell didn't plan on talking. So they both stayed silent as the couple up front sang horribly to some country song.

Aquarius frowned at her younger self, who was wearing a cowboy hat over her ebony hair. She hated country music. Had she changed that much to get close to Gemini's brother?

Once the song ended, the driver burst into a deep laugh, which young Aquarius followed after a brief hesitation. "You're such a bad singer Aqua!" He cackled, pointing a free hand at the girl.

"Hey, back off." Growled Gemini from his position in the back seat. Aquarius felt her cheeks heat up, at least until the two in the front seat burst out into laugher once again.

"She's fine, little bro. However, I would like to ask her to be more than just a friend." He pulled over on the side of the road, and turned to the young girl. "Aqua, would you like to have the honor of being my girlfriend?"

Gemini went still as a board in the back seat, his eyes widened like he'd seen a ghost. "Of course, with your best friend Gemmy's consent." His brother continued, facing him.

"Hell no!" Gemini spat, his eyes filled with so much hate that Aquarius had to lean away. She hoped that they would cut it off, but she knew how this ended.

But she could change something. Aquarius leaned forward in her seat, her lips right next to her younger self's ear. "Is he really everything you've dreamed of?" She whispered, stirring the girl's dark hair. She gasped, looking around quickly as Aquarius sat back down, invisible.

"You son of a-" The older boy turned in his seat, the same hatred directed at his brother. He reached out with his strong hands, heading for his neck.

"Stop it!" The girl screamed, slapping the driver in the face. He retaliated, shocked. Aquarius had never done anything against him before this, giving him every reason to be surprised.

"I'm not going to be your girlfriend if this is the way you treat my friends!" She continued, staring him dead in the eyes. An icy cold came over his features, and he glared back at her.

"Both of you, out." He snapped, turning his eyes sightlessly to the road. Gemini jumped out without a second thought, just like how it had originally gone. However, young Aquarius followed, slamming the door, but not before the ghost slipped out behind her.

The driver flicked a naughty finger at them before revving up his truck and speeding off. Aquarius took a step back, surprised that she had actually been able to change something. She glanced back towards the pair, anticipating what would happen.

For the first time, she didn't know her own memories.

Last time around, she had bad mouthed Gemini after he hadn't agreed before laughing and dumping him on the road alone. Her and his brother had hooked up, and time flowed on. Not so much this time.

"I thought I wasn't your friend." Gemini muttered, turning his eyes away from the girl. Aquarius smiled as her younger self blushed.

"You are. I just took this long to remember."

The scene bleached white, leading Aquarius into a new day.

~~~memory 6~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aquarius woke up on a couch, an uncertain past ahead of her. Her younger self, now her age, was snuggled next to Gemini in front of a Christmas tree, lit up to the occasion. The sound of ripping paper and the crackling fire filled the air, calming Aquarius.
The Aquarius sitting next to Gemini smiled as he plopped a present in her hands, her face flickering in the light of the fire. She carefully unwrapped his gift, making sure not to tear the ribbon or paper. She pulled out a pair of necklaces, the charm in the shape of a puzzle piece.
"You complete me," She read, making Aquarius smile from her place on the couch.
Gemini blushed. "Sorry it's kind of cheesy-" Aquarius put a finger to his lips, silencing him. She leaned in, until their faces were inches away.
Aquarius noticed her phone sitting next to her, and picked it up. She couldn't resist getting a picture of this. She snapped a shot as their lips connected.
Then everything went white. Except this time, there wasn't another memory.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Aquarius woke up with a gasp. She rubbed her eyes before studying the scene around her. Her and Gemini were on the couch, her head rested on his chest as he slept. A Christmas tree was lit up in front of a crackling fire, open gifts scattered around their feet. She shifted to get up, trying to be subtle, but the blonde stirred anyways.

"Hmm... You okay?" Gemini asked, pulling her back down onto him. She didn't resist, leaning into his warmth. Was she okay? She couldn't  really remember any specific details; her life felt like a blur. However, she did feel her love and trust for Gemini, and relied on that.

"I don't know... I keep on remembering being on a yacht at night-Never mind, that's silly. I've never been on a yacht." She snuggled back up to Gemini.

She would never see the ghost of herself watching just feet away.
