CHAPTER 2
-Welcome Mr. Parker, would you like me to inform Mr. Stark of your presence. – the voice of FRIDAY welcomed his arrival.
-Not necessary FRY, just tell me where he is.
-He seems to be tinkering in the "Iron Lab"
-I don't even know why I care to ask... thanks FRY. – And with that he tripped his way there while taking his suit off, in was a luck there was no one around this area of the compound, having established a restricted Avengers section had definitely been a great idea for hurry entrances like this one.
There was no need for the door to be open to know already that he wouldn't hear his entrance because of the loud Pink Floyd bathing the air. So, he simple pushed his hand in the code lector and made his way to the board where Tony was writing. Sometimes it would still amaze him the fact that he was allowed in that lab, not many people were, in fact, not even the majority of the Avengers were.
-Hey Mr. Stark! - he said by his side in a quite too excited tone for Tony's liking. The sudden jump being the prove of that
- Oh Gosh, Kid! You scared me! I know I told you to come whenever you needed, but heck, you could have warned me... I have a heart condition you know. – If this had happened when he had first met him, he would have been scared of having risked his trust on his worth. Now, he knew better. Being sarcastic and dramatic was just "his thing"
- Yeah, I do, as does the rest of the planet. I don't know if you are aware of it but, you kinda got carried away with your pacemaker... - Tony would never admit this on public, but the truth was, the kid had the strange ability of making him let's say... less miserable.
- So... apart from making your boss get close to having a cardiac arrest. What brings you here? – he questioned with his eyebrow already raised in prevention of the possible answer. Sometimes his answers would be vague or simply lame, sometimes the kid would just take refuge from the world in the lab. And that, wasn't something he was going to judge, although he'd be careful of the kid not exceeding himself. He knows firsthand the consequences of overwork hours
- Uh sure! You're not going to believe what I discovered, well, more likely what I could have discovered, because you know, I couldn't open it and... - he was scrambling through his huge bag and throwing lots of apparently useless gadgets, books, cables... God this kid was so much like him that he would sometimes grow scared of it.
- Ok, Ok, Slow down. What are we talking about exactly?
- Here- he said while taking an old suitcase out of his bag – It's blocked
- I'm starting to think you hit your head while patrolling. Peter, are you telling me, you came all the way here, to ask me how to open a blocked suitcase? You know with your enhanced abilities you could probably open it using your bare hands, don't you? - the one arching his eyebrow was now Peter.
- Yeah, I thought about that possibility but... I'd rather not break it. – now he was interested, the sudden change of tone in his voice made it clear. It was important to him. So instead of throwing another of his sarcastic responses he just holds up for the kid to go on. – I believe it was my father's, here you see, R.P., Richard Parker... I found it behind a loose table when I sat down to take down a tablet for my stomach intoxication.
- I'm gonna pretend I didn't hear about the intoxication and let it for another moment... You say this was your father's?
-Yeah, I'm just not sure how to open it without breaking it
- Yeah, that makes sense, here let me give it a look - Peter handed it over to his mentor. Tony inspected it a little before Peter pointed out the combination lock
- Are you loosing faculties Mr. Stark? - he said smirking playfully at what Tony didn't respond, only raised an eyebrow.
He tried a couple digits with no luck before handing it over to the scanner, which gave them the exact code needed.
- Why wouldn't you do that from the beginning?
- Where's your sense of adventure kid? Sometimes it's fun trying the old way first - Peter only rolled his eyes at his mentor's nonsense, trying a couple numbers when there are 10000 possible combinations.
- Analysis completed Sir; the number is 5295 - Peter entered the code and as expected the suitcase opened. Inside it was a mess, maybe due to all the years it had been there, the rush in which it was hidden, or maybe, just maybe, the swinging from the apartment to the compound. The contents were basically blue plans, papers and a single pen drive.
- Ok... where do we start?"
