"Run, Barry, run."
⚡⚡⚡
-C O R Y-
"Slow down would ya? Not all of us have practiced nor brushed up on our freak show talents!"
Barry and I were zooming along the highway side by side at ten o'clock clock. But of course I was lagging behind because controlling merely a thousand air molecules to expand and reform with no oxygen and other components with a single mind's thought was surprisingly harder than it seemed. Who would've guessed.
The fact that I was even flying much less floating is unbelievable all by itself.
It makes me nervous having this power at times. I mean, can you imagine being able to finally cross out people from your hit list?
If you don't have a have a hit list, your too nice.
Bottom line, is I'm not to be trusted.
"You should be there in about eighty seconds, Cory."
"Can't you just say a minute like a normal person?"
The wind was picking up ever so slightly on the east side where Caitlin mentioned the farm being outside the city. If anything terrible were to happen at the old windmill farm, I'd be wrecked.
Grandma Betty and Papa Louie took Ellie and I when we were kids, to pick fresh berries from the owner's bushes because they were such good friends. Even after they died we'd still visit whenever I came to town.
Allen sped up, leaving behind a blur and for me to bite the dust. It's s hard to keep up with him when he's slacking, now it seems nearly impossible with the wind playing a huge factor.
Clenching my fist together tightly, I concentrated on ignoring and blocking out all my surroundings that I found even the least bit distracting and focused on my abilities.
Forget the noises.
Forget the tiny speaker in my ear as Cisco rambles on about Taco again in a blubbery mess. For reasons no one knows the reason to.
Forget everything.
It's just me, myself, and I.
I felt all the muscles in my body loosen themselves from it's tense state. It was like having all the after effects of yoga with none of the work; Peaceful and relaxing. In fact I was so relaxed I nearly fell asleep. I can see the future and let's just say, my face and pavement don't mix well.
Everything felt similar to the first time I actually went into zero gravity mode; like I was walking on air. And then I tried urging myself to remember how I generated so much energy in that one moment.
At the though, my lips suddenly flipped into a frown.
I forgot I suffered through my infamous power sneeze for that.
Internally sighing for the umpteenth time I made a mental note to find an alternative for my predicament. If Allen and I keep up this superhero gig, I can't rely on my sneezing to get me everywhere I need to go.
I don't think my nose can handle it.
The air gradually reeked of dust to the point the outline of Allen's body nearly vanished in the dark night. So all it takes is a deep breath and I'm gone.
My lean figure went hurling forward along with an echo that could break the sound barrier itself as anyone in a fifty miles radius heard my donkey sneeze, sadly enough. And I was never good when it came to landings. Unlike the previous time, I had something spacious to cushion my fall, now I have something that could possibly beak my tail bone to spot me.
I was suddenly thrown into a wooden fort-at least that's what I'm guessing it to be. Whatever it was, was enough to get my head to swimming in circles. A thick liquid slowly dripped, caressing my cheek in a twisted way. It's obvious I'm bleeding, but that's the last of my worries.
Allen, seeing what happened since I barrled past him, aided in helping what was actually a chicken coop rooftop off of me in a heartbeat. I could've done it myself though, it weighed like twenty pounds or so. But I shouldn't complain.
"Guys, this thing's getting closer. Wind speeds are two-hundred miles per hour and increasing. Barry, Cory, can you hear me?!
"Yeah." I croaked.
Allen kneeled to me with an unconvincing expression, but quickly patted my shoulder and nodded. "Loud and clear."
"If this keeps up it'll become an F-5 tornado." Dylan switched the voice of Cisco over the ear piece in a matter-of-fact tone.
"Shit," I mumbled beneath my breath. "It's heading towards the city." My throat nearly shrivled up and died right there and then because my strained voice could barely be heard over the ferocious storm
Allen's eyes widened in alert. "Cory's right. How do we stop it!" Static rushed in my eardrums and that was all that could be heard for a second. Taking a quick glance at Allen's equally anxious face enlightened me it was happening to him as well.
"Guys?!"
"What if they unravel it?" Dylan mumbled more to himself rather than us. But it seems as though it wasn't low enough to slip past Caitlin's ears because she heard him regardless.
"And how would they do that?"
"I'll run around it in the opposite direction. Cut off it's legs. " I caught a glimpse of the tornado through narrowed eyes. It was picking up speed so a plan like that would be stupid, but there wasn't much time to dwell on things and besides... I'm all about stupid.
It's surprising I even graduated from college knowing damn well three quarters of my professors had a mutual distaste for me. It'd honestly be less surprising if they had a hate club.
"He'd have to clock over seven hundred miles per hour to do that." Running the calculations over my head, Cisco was right. Sounding rather doubtful while at it.
He remembers Allen and I can hear everything, right? He remembers I'm here...right?!
"Barry, your body may not be able to handle those types of speeds. You can die." Am I invisible all of a sudden? I apologize that the supposed F-5 tornado is literally taking my breath away.
I scoffed loudly. "Not when you've got the two of us."
My thoughts spiraled for a moment. It wouldn't be as useful if Allen and I attempted to cut off the legs. I'm a safety hazard all by myself, so how much better are the chances with both of us going for the same objective? The entire thing spells disaster.
Don't just presume that nothing bad will happen and I'm just fillng my head with nonsense because-heck-I even tripped Allen on the way here and my feet weren't even touching the ground!
"You take the bottom half and I'll take the top. Sound good?" I considered to Allen, stating it as a question when really it was a statement. considering I was the one who could 'fly' and all.
I received a curt nod shortly after as a reply. "I'm sorry, Caitlin, but I have to try." Again with the, I. Was he an only child growing up or...?
My cloudy grey eyes glared daggers to his running figure that left behind his notorious red blur until I fully realized what in hell's name I suggested. Me, flying nearly six stories high, humiliating myself because the only way I know how to do a head start is through a mega sneeze? No thanks.
Good thing I've dealt with so much embarrassing moments in life I'm practically immune. As long as my new super hero name isn't something ironic like, sneezy.
Note to self; practice more.
My nose heaved in a big swatch of air infected with dust and rocks and- what has my life come to?
Sadly enough, the sneeze I was bitter sweetingly hoping for arrived. If I had time to blush such a red I would. How do you think the first people I rescue will feel.
I can see the headlines from here;
Sneezy and Dash help save the day!
Let me skip past the gory details of my sneeze-for my sake, not yours- and get to the part were I look semi cool to the ordinary eye, 'flying' and stuff.
It's a little challenging to have the air I struggle to keep under wraps not suck me into it's never ending swirl of mayhem. But as long as Allen is willing to give things a go, than who am I to quit so early.
That was until the mouth of the twister got wider, causing me to slow my speed. My body is beginning to ache and I can feel my energy deflating. Taking my action for weakness, who ever was minacial enough to create such a thing blew a force of air at me. Enough to send me colliding with the roof of the farm-what was left of it anyways.
My body continues to roll and and tumble after the impact to the point I nearly fall off. Then Allen was head first in a ditch so obviously my idea wasn't so good.
"It's too strong." I groaned. The air in my lungs was gone, my throat tightened, and sweat visbly ran from my hairline. I'd gladly be
anywhere but here at the moment.
"That's what she said..."
"Doubt she's ever said that to you." Dylan's childish snickering ceased upon my comeback. Despite how funny and immature he his, which I endlessly adore, now doesn't seem like the best time.
"She's right..." Allen muttered helplessly.
"Excuse me? I'll have you know my sex life is very-"
"I mean the tornado."
All hope that was stored in my body was nearly lost until a new voice echoed over the ear piece.
"No, you can do this Barry. You were right, I am responsible...for all of this. So many people have been hurt because of me and when I looked at you all I saw was another potential victim of my hubris," Hmm, who else sees people as mere objects with little to no respect regarding them. It has to be Wells talking. When in doubt we can all proudly remember, he's the only one who gladly owns up to these things.
But why give a pep talk when he didn't want neither Allen or I to be out here "playing superhero"?
"And yes, I created all this madness, but you, Barry, you can stop it. You can do this. Now run, Barry, run!"
And that's just what he did. I have to admit I'm surprised, I've never seen the motivational speaker side of Wells before.
I cleared my throat hoping to capture the attention of everyone over the line.
"Uh, hello? What the hell am I-a roach?! Where's my inspirational speech!"
The groan ringing in my ear was filled with such emotion, you can taste the irritation and exasperation. For a whiny old man who's supposedly spending the remainder of his life in a wheel chair, it sounded like it rocked his spine to the core.
I feel so appreciated.
"If you don't hurry up and eliminate the problem, I'm eating the burger you left in the break room."
Over all the backgrounds noise, my melodramatic gasp was heard clear as day.
"Lay one finger on it and I will surely shove hot rocks down your throat and use boiling water to help them through your esophagus ." I growled.
"Too late, Dylan's taken upon itself and is already halfway to the fridge." Cisco informed.
So, so appreciated indeed.
[Edited]
Going through and editing, I'm starting to believe I didn't know the difference between past and present tense while writing.
Like how do you guys even put up with me?
If you enjoyed this chapter than don't forget to vote, comment, and all that jazz because I really do appreciate it
