Chapter 1
Beep beep beep
It was a foggy Saturday morning. Cold and dreary in his small home. It was lonely with out them. His wife had left him because he couldn't seem to get his head straight with his little bunch of misfits. He brought his hand down his face rubbing the sleepiness out from his eyes. After the rough night of trying to figure out the enemies plans on what they were planning to do? It was torture not knowing what they could do next.
He then Heard a knock on the door.
Who the hell would knock on my door at 9:30 in the morning? and I'm not that famous anyways. So who would do that? He thought annoyed. He twisted his body to get off the bed and walked to the door. Scratching his scruffy beard. He opened the door and there was a man there wearing a suit.
What the hell is he doing playing dress up this early in the morning?
Levi then looked the man up and down as if to try and size him up.
"Levi Hawthorne?"
"That's me. I'm not exactly a charmer at nine in the morning but today's a special day. Now hurry up on your whatever news." He said waving his hands in the air.
" We have some good news about your daughters car accident." The man started out.
"What the hell? How is this lead to good news huh? Bringing it to me like that? You can do a hell of a lot better than saying it like that. Now, I'm going to shut this door and we're going to start from the top. Come on lad you can do it properly." He said. The man groaned in annoyance but he complied as he shut the door. He chuckled under his breath, as he heard the man knock once again. As he opened the door the man was still in his same stance as he was when I opened the door. Same serious expression.
"Levi Hawthorne?"
"That's me. Now. I heard you had some news that you wanted to tell me?" He asked while raising an eyebrow.
"Yes I do, sir. This news connects with your daughter, who had passed away recently. And it seems like you have a granddaughter Levi Hawthorne."
He stilled. My daughter didn't have a daughter of her own. That's impossible. She must've really loved that man she was going to marry.
"How the hell did this happen? And how did I not get notified of this right after the car accident?"
"It was my fault Levi." A woman's voice that was all too familiar to him. The man stepped out of the way to reveal what was behind door number one.
"Alright. Now that you've revealed door number one what's door number two?" He said. He wasn't in any mood to see her again after she left him. He still loved her but after he wasted his life, she got a divorce because she wanted a break from him.
"Door number two is still me Levi. Stop being a jackass and start being serious. This is our Granddaughter we're talking about. I can't take care of her because I'm flying out to Atlanta. So it's your job to take care of the child." She said.
"Annie. I really don't have time for her. Because of you know what! I don't want to give that up for a child!" He snapped.
"Levi please. She needs a loving home that is part of her blood. She needs you Levi." Annie begged him to take her.
Levi groaned. He didn't need a child in his life. Even if it was his own blood. The child would just remind him of his daughter.
"Please Levi. At least just look at her." Annie pleaded.
Two more people came out of the car that was parked at the end of his driveway. Carrying a bundled up baby in a pink blanket. She looks to be a newborn child yet we know that that's not the truth.
"What's her name?" He asked.
"We don't have a name for her yet. I guess Leah didn't name her child." Annie said. He flinched when she said his daughters name. He hadn't heard that name in a long time.
"Let me see her?" He asked. At first he was hostile towards the child. Not to sure what he expected from her. It was his granddaughter after all. Annie handed him the child. The baby gurgled and squealed as she looked up at me with her green eyes. Her mothers eyes. It almost brought a tear to his eyes.
"How old is she?"
"Only a year old." Annie said. Nodding to the baby.
How am I going to take care of this child along with the gang? Who's going to take care of the gang while I'm taking care of her? How am I going to do this? Being a single parent without Annie to help me.
All these thoughts through Levi's head just leads to unanswered questions. But all it takes is time. Time on how he will care for her. Time on how he will be protective her. Time on everything. He finally figured out what he was going to call her.
" Little Zee." He murmured. The baby squealed. And giggled as if she knew her own name. As if she were actually listening.
"I'm sorry what was that Levi?" Annie asked blinking twice as if she didn't believe her eyes as my face grew soft at the sight of the baby.
"The child's name. Her name is Zerael Her nickname is little Zee." Levi said nodding to her. Annie blinked once more. As if she was shocked. I could understand why she was so shocked because I hadn't felt this soft towards anyone since my daughter.
"So does this mean that you're going to take care of her?" Annie asked stiff.
"Yes. Don't be so stiff Little red." Levi said. The nickname I always called her when I was deeply in love with her. Knowing now that I have no chance in getting her back because she's apparently going to get married.
"Right. Well. I have a flight to catch. I'll see you Levi." Annie said. And then her red hair blew in the wind as she got into the black SUV. The man was still standing on my damn lawn.
"Hey sir. Get off my damn lawn. I just mowed that yesterday." He said glaring at the young man. Who put his hands up in surrender. And stepped on my driveway.
"Mr. Hawthorne we have to sign these adoption papers so that we know that you've officially agreed to become her legal guardian." The man said
Levi nodded eagerly. He wanted to get a move on to take care of this little girl. Annie had left him with some baby things and told me that it was to get me started on taking care of her.
It was a while before I could actually sign the final line.
Was I really going to take care of her for the rest of my life? My granddaughter. I must finally be getting old. I'm going to protect her from my other life. I'm going to tell stories about her parents, so that she knows them so well even if she haven't met them yet. I'm going to kick every guys ass who ever comes near her to protect her from a heartbreak. I won't allow it unless she really finds someone that she truly loves.
I will protect little Zee until my very last breath. And that's a promise.
I took a deep breath and signed the paper with my signature. And I finally let go of my breath as soon as the man left with the signed papers. I glanced at little Zee who was in. Her little rocker. I crouched down to pick it up and put it on the table so I can see her.
"Hey little Zee. My names Levi. I'm your grandpa." He said chuckling as he brushed his index finger down her soft little cheek. The baby gurgled and giggled as he did that.
"You like that huh?" He chuckled. His eyes softening.
"Anytime you bring a boy home little Zee, I'm gonna kick is ass. And that's a promise. Because if he hurts you, then he's got another thing coming." He murmured.
Hey guys! I'll still be updating Twins law on my same schedule, but I'm just going to be making this story while I update that one! I hope you enjoyed the first chapter! And the title of the book isn't totally official yet. I can't think of a proper name for this book, but I think it'll come to me some day while I'm writing this one. I have a feeling that this book would be a fun adventure. Hope you join me on this journey! Love you my babies!
