'Maimasa' - A Servant's Farewell

Maimasa.

That is what I have called him.

That is what I have always called him.

Ever since Her Grace, the goddess Hylia, created me to guide him, that is what I have called him.

To show my respect and my loyalty to him. I do not entirely 'feel' those emotions - I was not programmed to in the first place - but that is what Her Grace ordered me to call him, in the language of the gods.

Maimasa.

I travelled with him in this life, and even fought alongside him in another, in the past, for a very long time. I guided him, translated for him, shared my knowledge with him, protected his body as he faced the goddesses' trials - everything a dedicated servant should do.

He is my master.

He always has been.

That is why I call him that - maimasa. He has expressed distaste towards the use of the title, insisting that he is not my master and I not his servant.

But that is how it always has been, and always will be.

Yet he has done me a great favor. A favor I will never be able to return.

He has taught me the meaning of being human.

He has taught me protection when others were in need.

He has taught me dedication when we were separated and he sought me.

He has taught me love when he searched for Her Grace.

He has taught me compassion when others, no matter who, required his aid.

He has taught me hope when there was none to be found.

He has taught me courage when the odds foretold his failure.

He has taught me why Her Grace chose him as her hero.

And I shall never forget it.

Even now, as my conscience fades and I struggle to comprehend my 'feelings' of valuing our time together, I gaze upon his courageous, grief-ridden face, knowing his blessed but perilous destiny in lifetimes to come, and vow that I shall always protect his sword, in which I reside, from dark forces. So long as the Spirit of the Hero exists, I shall ensure that none wield his sword, his gift from the goddesses, save for himself.

Even when I am gone.

For you, maimasa.

'My master'.

Master Link.

Always... maimasa...

"May we meet again in another life..."
