Battle for the Bug Badge
Viola wasted no time after the referee called the battle to start. "Surskit, Bubble Beam!" she exclaimed.
"Dodge it!" Morgan commanded Chespin.
Surskit shot a stream of bubbles at Chespin, but Chespin sidestepped and the attack hit the ground instead.
"Cespin, use Rollout!" Morgan ordered.
"Sticky Web!" Viola shouted.
Chespin curled into a ball and rolled towards Surskit. As Chespin neared Surskit, Surskit shot a web at him, and Chespin was promptly caught in it. Chespin halted his Rollout attack and struggled to free himself from the web. However, the web had caught him in a ball, so the most he could do was roll and thrash around.
"This battle is going to end really fast," I heard Conner mutter.
"Don't be like that!" I stated, "Morgan has another Pokemon, remember?"
"But so does Viola," Conner pointed out.
"Now, Surskit, use Ice Beam on the field!" Viola yelled. Surskit aimed an Ice Beam at the ceiling. The beam split and showered down on to the field.
"Roll out of the way!" Morgan exclaimed. Chespin, still in the ball, managed to roll away from all the Ice Beams. However, the field was completely covered in ice.
"There's no way that Chespin can battle on that," Conner noted. I couldn't argue with that.
Genevieve and Nick had be watching the battle silently.
"Surskit, use Signal Beam on Chespin!" Viola commanded.
"Dodge it!" Morgan ordered.
Surskit aimed and fired a pick beam of light with blue shapes in it at Chespin. Chespin attempted to roll out of the way, but couldn't move on the ice battle field. He cried out as he was struck with a super effective move.
"Chespin!" Morgan gasped.
The blast had knocked off the Sticky Web around Chespin. Chespin had managed to endure the blast, but it was obvious that he couldn't manage being hit one more time. Chespin could barely even stand do to the icy battle field.
"Return Chespin!" Nick suddenly called out from where he stood.
"Do what?" Morgan asked, looking at Nick.
"Return him!" he shouted, "It's not against the rules, and he'll still be able to battle later! Send out your other Pokemon instead!"
Morgan held out Chespin's Pokeball. "Return!" she exclaimed. A red light shot out and encased Chespin before withdrawing back into the ball. "Good job," Morgan told Chespin, "Get some rest."
Morgan took another Pokeball from her Pokeball belt. "Come out, Pidgey!" she exclaimed.
Pidgey appeared in a flash of light flying above the battle field.
"Now that ice battle field won't matter," Conner noted, "because Pidgey can fly above it."
"Pidgey also has a type advantage," I added.
"Pidgey, use Gust!" Morgan called.
Pidgey's wings glowed white and he flapped them frantically. Huge fists of wind rushed over Surskit and sent Surskit spinning across the ice field.
"Surskit, use Ice Beam!" Viola shouted.
"Dodge it!" Morgan ordered.
Surskit came out of its spin and shot a beam of ice at Pidgey. Pidgey manuvered around the beam.
"Gust!" Morgan commanded, "push Surskit into a corner of the field!"
Pidgey's wings glowed white again, and he flapped them. This time, every time Surskit came out of the spin, Pidgey flew close and continued Gust until Surskit had been pushed into a corner at the every edge of the field.
"Quick Attack!" Morgan exclaimed, "and pull up quickly."
Pidgey flew at Surskit faster than Surskit could react. The Quick Attack slammed into Surskit with just enough force to push Surskit out of bounds, thus disqualifying Surskit.
"Surskit is disqualified," the referee announced, "Viola, please send out your next Pokemon."
"That was some strategy," Nick noted.
"Pretty impressive, right?" Genevieve agreed.
Viola returned Surskit. "You did great," she stated before pulling another Pokeball from her belt. "This one's a winner for sure! Go, Vivillon!"
A large, pink butterfly appeared in a flash of light above the field.
"Never seen that Pokemon before."Morgan pulled out her Pokedex and scanned Vivilon.
"Vivillon, the Scale Pokemon," Morgan Pokedex stated in a mechanical voice, "Vivillon are skillfully able to find a source of water. It has been said that you'll find a spring if you follow Vivillon."
Morgan put up her Pokedex. "Pidgey, start off with Gust!" she exclaimed.
"Counter it with your own Gust!" Viola ordered Vivillon.
Both Vivillon and Pidgey's wing glowed with white light, and both Pokemon flapped their wings frantically, attempting to overpower the others attack. Both Gusts meet in the middle and stayed there until the two Pokemon ended their attack.
"Pidgey, Quick Attack!" Morgan yelled.
"Psychic!" Viola commanded.
Pidgey flew at Vivillon, but before he could reach her, Vivillon's eyes started to glow light blue, and a blue light surrounded Pidgey, halting Pidgey's Quick Attack in its tracks. Vivillon then thrust Pidgey into the ice battle field.
"Now, use Solar Beam!" Viola exclaimed.
"Dodge it, Pidgey!" Morgan ordered.
Vivillon gathered light from the sun and a ball of light started to form between its antenne. Pidgey was still struggling to get his footing on the icy battle field. Vivillon shot a beam of energy at Pidgey, and it knocked up a dust cloud. When it cleared, Pidgey was flying over a patch of exposed battle field, unscratched.
"Too close for comfort," Conner sighed in relief.
"Vivillon, Sleep Powder!" Viola commanded.
"Counter it with Gust!" Morgan shouted.
Vivillon sent a cloud of sparkly green dust towards Pidgey. Pidgey's wings glowed with white light and he flapped his wings frantically, whipping up gusts of wind and blowing Vivillon's Sleep Powder back towards her.
"Gust!" Viola yelled frantically, blow it back towards Pidgey!"
Vivillon's wings glowed and she beat them, blowing the powder back towards Pidgey. When the Sleep Powder got caught between the two Pokemon's attacks, it slowly faded, and the Pokemon halted their attacks. By now, both of Pokemon were breathing heavily.
"Whoever lands the next attack is the winner of this round," I noted.
"Yeah," Conner agreed, "and Pidgey hasn't managed to lay a single hit on Vivillon."
Both Morgan and Viola noticed that as well.
"Pidgey, Quick Attack!" Morgan exclaimed.
"Use Psychic!" Viola ordered.
Pidgey flew at Vivilon at top speed, but Vivillon's eyes grew blue and a similar light- blue light surrounded Pidgey. Vivillon then thrust Pidgey into the ice battle field.
"Finish off with Solar Beam!" Viola commanded.
Vivillon gathered light between her antennae and shot it at Pidgey. A loud cry that echoed around the Gym signified that Pidgey had not been lucky enough to avoid the blast. As the dust cleared, I spotted Pidgey in the center of the field, K.O.ed.
"So much for that," Conner sighed. I nodded in agreement, at lost for words.
Morgan held out Pidgey's Pokeball. "Pidgey, return!" she exclaimed. "You did great," she told Pidgey when he had returned to the ball, "Thanks for your help."
"So, are you going to give up?" Viola called to Morgan.
Morgan took Chespin's Pokeball off of her Pokeball belt. "I never give up," she replied. Throwing the Pokeball up in the air, she shouted, "Go, Chespin!"
In a flash of light, Chespin appeared on the patch of exposed battle field. Despite having the opportunity to rest, he still looked really worn out.
"Chespin," Morgan called, "stay near that patch of bare ground!"
"This is going to be too easy," Viola noted, "Vivilon, use Solar Beam!"
"Dodge it, then come back to that place!" Morgan ordered.
"Chespin is done for now," a voice beside me stated. I turned around an spotted Nick's Fennekin watching the battle intently.
"Don't say that," I argued, defending Chespin.
Fennekin turned to look at me. "I couldn't beat Viola the first time Nick and I challenged her. And I had an advantage."
I blinked. Having no response, I turned my attention back to the battle.
Chespin had managed to successfully invade the attack, and was standing on the same spot in the battle field, unharmed.
"Nice job, Chespin!" Morgan exclaimed, "Now, use Vine Whip!"
"Dodge it, then counter attack with Sleep Powder!" Viola commanded.
Chespin attempted to use Vine Whip. Vivillon flew out of rang and used Sleep Powder. The green dust floated slowly down towards Chespin.
"Chespin, get above Vivilon and use Rollout, quick!" Morgan ordered.
As the Sleep Powder started to float around Chespin, he leapt into the air, dispersing most of it, and curled in to a ball, spinning towards Vivillon. Vivillon took the super- effective hit, and plummeted to the ground, K.O.ed.
"Vivillon is unable to battle," the refree stated, "The Challenger, Morgan, is the winner!"
"Chespin, we did it!" Morgan cheered.
Chespin raced over to Morgan. "I did it! I did it! The first Gym badge is mine!" he shouted.
Viola returned Vivillon and walked over to Morgan. "Great job," she congratulated her, "That was a very fun battle. For beating me, I present you with the Bug Badge."
Morgan picked up the badge and admired it before putting it away. She then looked at Viola. "Thanks for the battle," Morgan said.
"It was a pleasure!" Viola replied.
Genevieve, Conner, and I went over to Morgan. Genevieve congratulated Morgan while Conner and I listened to Chespin's bragging about the battle. Nick walked over to Viola with Fennekin at his heels.
"Can I battle you now?" Nick questioned.
Viola nodded in reply. "I'll battle you as soon as I get my Pokemon healed."
When Viola left the arena through a door at the back, Nick walked over to where Morgan and Genevieve were conversing. Fennekin settled down next to me to listen to Chespin talk.
"And then, I used Rollout, and- WHAM! That Vivillon went down, and I had won with barely any effort!" Chespin bragged.
I rolled my eyes. Talk about exaggeration.
"You don't have to tell me," Fennekin stated, "I was there. And you know just as much as I do that it wasn't a walk in the park."
Chespin glared at Fennekin. "You're just mad 'cause you lost the first time."
"I can assure you, I'm most defiantly not jealous of a silly Pokemon like you. Such feelings are beneath my standing," Fennekin replied haughtily.
"Standing as what?" Chespin demanded, "The World's Lamest Pokemon?"
"I'll have you know I was a Starter Pokemon chosen by Nick!" Fennekin exclaimed.
"So was I," Chespin countered, "And obviously I'm stronger than you."
"I am just as strong as you, if not stronger!" Fennekin growled.
"Then prove it by battling me!" Chespin shouted.
"I refuse it battle a Pokemon of such a low standing," Fennekin stated.
"What's that supposed to mean exactly?" Chespin demanded angrily.
"A lady has a certain standing she must hold," Fennekin replied, "And, as it happens, you're not qualified."
"L- lady?" Chespin blinked, "You're a girl?"
Fennekin looked rather offend by that comment. "Of course I am," she stated matter- of- fact- ly, "You can't seriously have thought I was a boy!"
"I thought Starter Pokemon could only be boys," Chespin noted.
Fennekin slowly shook her head. "And you call yourself a Starter Pokemon," she sighed, "How sad. You can't even tell a boy from a girl."
"I can too!" Chespin shouted.
"Obviously not," Fennekin snorted.
"Can too!" Chespin yelled.
"Then proove it," Fennekin stated, "Tell me how you can tell male and female Pikachu apart."
"Oh, that's easy!" Chespin replied. "You can tell by... they are different... uhhhhh....." I waved my tail in the air, trying to give Chespin a hint. Chespin gave me a puzzled look. "It's a trick question!" Chespin answered. I face- pawed. That Pokemon had a head as thick as the Earth's crust, sometimes.
Fennekin giggled. "Nope. Guess again." Chespin's cluelessness was clearly humoring her.
I glared at Chespin and mouthed the word 'tail.' "They have different colors!" Chespin exclaimed.
I glared at him and made a low growling noise. Fennekin laughed. "A perfect description of SHINY Pokemon! One more guess."
Chespin opened his mouth to state another outlandish answer, but before he could, I moved closer to him and promptly whacked him across the face with my tail. Chespin yelped and moved back a pace. "What was that for?" he demanded angrily.
Then he noticed the v- shaped notch in my tail. "When did you get that?" Chespin asked, pointing at my tail.
"I've had it," I replied, "In case you haven't noticed."
"No, I haven't," Chespin replied, "Was it always there?" he questioned.
"Yes!" I snapped.
"I never noticed. Why is it there?" Chespin asked.
Fennekin answered, "All female Pikachu have a notch at the the end of their tails."
Chespin's eyes widened. "Really? I never knew that. Then that must mean you're a girl, Amanda."
"What did you think I was?" I demanded.
"A boy, of course. What else?" Chespin replied. I smacked him again with my tail.
"Do I even sound like boy to you?" I yelled.
"It's hard to tell when you're yelling like that," Chespin answered.
"You've got three seconds to get as far away as possible before I throw you into a fire pit," I growled, "One, two-"
Right when I was about to say 'three' and blast Chespin with a Thunder Shock, a loud explosion sounded from the front of the Gym, shaking the ground.
Viola burst from the doors at the back of the arena. "What was that explosion?" she demanded.
I stopped my argument with Chespin. All eyes went to the front of the arena. "It came from over there, towards the entrance of the Gym," Genevieve pointed to the sliding glass doors that led to the entrance hallway.
Viola raced across the arena and was about to open the sliding doors, which had been deactivated for the battle, when another, closer explosion rocked the ground, tossing her away from the doors.
Another explosion shattered the doors to a million pieces that scattered across the Gym floor, kicking up a large cloud of dust. Viola looked furious. I can't say I'd blame her. I'd be furious to if some attacked my gym and attempted to blow it up.
"Who dares to attack a Kalos League Gym?!" Viola shouted at the dust cloud.
And earsplitting laugh filled the air. As the dust cloud started to clear from the entrance, I spotted bright orange. My eyes widened in fear, recognizing the blazing orange outfits from when all this was just a game on a 3DS.

~Author's Note
I must admit, this is a rather short chapter for such a long wait. Sorry about that. I kinda needed a break from writing for a little while. Or more than a little while. SORRY! I kept meaning to, but I just kept getting distracted. I mean, Season 5 of My Little Pony premiered April 4th. How could I not watch it? Over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over.
Anyways...
So, likey or no likey? I'll admit, Chespin is the slightest bit clueless at the end of this, but I have to admit it was fun writing that conversation. Silly Chespin!
Also, Fennekin seems a tad bit full of herself, doesn't she? Maybe that will be a problem in future chapters. Or maybe not.
So, I'll leave with the usually Vote, Comment, and I'll try to write the next chapter and get it out next week (but no promises, 'kay? 'cause I might be busy).
Oh, almost forgot: THANK YOU FOR THE OVER 400 READS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It really means a lot. I haven't been on this site for long, and every read matters to me. So...
THANK YOU!
