Emi's eyes fluttered open. The face of Zedra the 4th filled her vision. She attempted to sit up in surprise, but she was strapped to a hospital bed.
"What did you do to me?" she asked.
"Well," said Zedra the 5th, who was standing beside her mother, "Your friend forced you to inhale an untested aphrodisiac. Then you fell 7 stories."
"What my daughter is trying to say is that we don't know exactly how you've been affected or why you survived the fall. You were strapped to the bed to prevent any...pouncing on the men in case the formula was effective," Zedra the 4th explained. Her daughter called in one of her male classmates.
"Do you feel anything stirring inside of you, Ms. Parks?" she asked.
Emi pondered the thought for a second. "Not really. My arm's just a bit itchy."
"Good." She shooed the boy away and unlatched the bed straps.
Emi sat up with contempt and itched at her arm. "Can I leave now? I'm sure nothing happened. I probably just got lucky."
Both Zedras stared at each other. The mother spoke. "If you're observed by a friend for any negative symptoms, I see no reason why you can't leave. Just be safe."
Emi leaped off of the bed and shook both of their hands. They both smiled at her as she opened the door to their observation room.
On the elevator ride down to the lobby, she looked down at her arm and saw that she was peeling where she was itching.
"Must be sunburn," she said to herself. Once the elevator doors opened, she saw Ness and Wendy waiting for her on one of the lobby couches. They both ran to her and hugged her.
"We were so worried," Ness said.
Wendy nodded. "We thought you might've died. Figures this is all Allen's fault."
Allen was nowhere to be found after the incident. The main chaperone called the police to track him down, but they weren't sure if they would find him with no evidence.
Although Emi was furious with him, she put him out of mind. He'd be punished by the police when the time was right. Now, she was more focused on the light headache that she had. The class began their walk back to the hotel.
"Emi, we've been meaning to tell you," Ness said, "Your eyes are kinda...reddish now. Not just brown anymore."
"And your hair is paler," Wendy said.
Emi pulled out her phone and flipped the camera to her face. True to what they said, her eyes were auburn. And her hair was a lighter brown now.
"Are you sure it's not just the lighting?" she asked.
Neither friend answered.
"I guess nobody knows anything."
The class reached the hotel and went back to their rooms for the night. Emi, Ness, and Wendy were all rooming together luckily.
Regardless of all that happened that day, as Emi went to sleep, the numbness made her forget most of the day's hardships and she drifted away.
