✿Messummer✿
Un: CroodsGirl
Title: 7/10
Similar title is not found on Wattpad, making it suitable for the unique name of the book. When I first read the title 'Messummer', my mind clicked with two words- Messy and summer and that is a good first impression according to me. So the name of your character is intriguing.
Points deduction is for that additional thing in the bracket. You can add that in the first line of the blurb or as a subtitle on the cover assuming it is important to mention.
Cover: 4/10
The background choice of the cover is good. However, the font choice and text placement of Messummer is simply chaotic and not graceful. Try blending the dinosaur with the background. Also, try to change the font of the author's name text.
I really would suggest you to get a new cover.
Blurb: 6.5/10
Pure narration is what I see. If the blurb is read carefully, small details from here and there can be picked for a reader to determine whether to give the book a read or not.
Now why did I deduct your points? Because it gave the plot background well (especially how Daniel would have to determine the route to go back home and survive with a dinosaur from dinosaurs.) however, what is there for the readers to feel excited about?
I am not a fan of prehistoric genre and related stories. So I wouldn't have clicked read button as a random reader. To convince even readers like me, you have to add an element of mystery in the blurb (which I am sure your plot can manage) and add some guiding questions to pick readers' interest.
You can always add dialogues from your book in the blurb to give it a finishing touch.
Plot: 12.5/15
Characters Dan and Messummer are engaging. Your introduction of the first chapter with Messummer and the mother dinosaur led me to believe that I have a good book in hand.
Facts were well researched. Dialogues and words were well chosen.
But, you can always work on descriptions. Although there is a little room for that, you can always try. Apart from that, some things do need some research as per me. (A good score for plot)
Grammar: 11/15
First of all, thank you for letting me read a book without sloppy and lazy writing with a good grammar. Secondly, problem for me lies with the alignment of the text. You chose it to be centric, I and many readers would anytime prefer it to be left aligned.
Then there are some minor grammatical errors which a normal reader won't find as such. You can try to edit them using some apps.
Another problem is the tense which sometimes runs from one to another in the corresponding sentences. Otherwise, it is all good.
Flow and Pace: 13.5/15
I don't think there is a problem with flow and Pace. If you decide to finish the story in around 7k words, this pace is well suited and appreciable. The things did flow from one sub plot to the other smoothly.
Character Development: 10.5/15
Messummer, although two (subconsciously amuses me), has a great sense of humour. Is curious about the world and amusingly presuming.
However, she is at last a dinosaur only. Her thought process and behavioural aspects make a humane mental image. When she first saw Dan as a different creature, as a dinosaur either she should have attacked him either out of fear or curiosity again. You can't portray a dinosaur that sane for letting her examine Dan from a distance.
Then again, when Messummer was bloating about finding a new species. Species word by her didn't sound appropriate because it's a human created 'scientific' term. Had she just said that she found a new creature or something like that, would have been believable for intricate readers like me.
Daniel is a quirky boy, believable with his actions and charming at the same time. How he just named Messummer as Becca greatly amused me letting us believe that although Dan was a great friend for her but she was just a dinosaur he encountered in the beginning, making the thought line believable.
Uniqueness: 4/5
Just like you mentioned in the starting that you don't find many books having Quatzelcoatlus with prime perspective. Additionally, we have the plot based on crossing paths with a time traveller, that too eccentric.
Keep it up!
Total: 69/90
Hope it helps ~
