'W-what is this...?'

A sigh escaped Yunho's lightly chapped lips, his tired feet dragging his heavy, grey-ish shoes through the newly formed puddles.
Droplets of water landed on the pants hugging his legs loosely...but he probably couldn't have cared less, since the raindrops alone caused his upper body, including his black strands of hair, to be soaked completely.
His runny nose, the wet clothes sticking to him and the goosebumps caused by the cold wind surrounding him, just increased his craving for a warm bubble bath and a hot bowl of soup.
The reason for him to walk around this late, without an umbrella or anything, while it's pouring like someone was so bored that he just emptied buckets of water over everyone, wasn't because he had nothing better to do, no.
It was because one of his co-workers called their workplace and called in sick out of the blue, exactly 15 minutes before her shift would have begun, and he had to take over. ‚Yeah, sure' he had thought when the news were announced ‚'sick'. More like a severe case of too-lazy-to-work-disease.'
Thanks to that idiot he had also missed his last train. Usually he wasn't one with a short temper and he wouldn't have had anything against doing her that favor, but after a 7-hour shift with an eighth extra one, just because he couldn't say no to his boss again when he ashamedly asked for help, that incident was the last thing he had needed.
He had had to hold back the rage that was slowly growing inside of him at that moment, because he didn't want to get into trouble.
❁
As he eyed a large sign next to the road, to check how long the rest of his way home would take, a car drove by in a hurry, its spinning tires splashing muddy water all over his clothes.
Now they weren't only wetter than before, if that was even impossible, now they were dirty too. But since he was already so angry and annoyed that he couldn't manage to say a word, he just rolled his eyes and continued walking into the opposite direction.
‚I hate this day so much, can I please just go to sleep?'
Just as he wanted to cross the traffic light that had turned green a few seconds ago, he heard a loud clatter coming from one of the alleyways. Because he wasn't easily startled though, he only turned his head in said direction and shrugged, proceeding to walk home.
It wasn't rare for random sounds to come out of alleys in a huge city, so it probably was just one of those nobody knew the origin of. It didn't come to his mind that he could've guessed wrong.
The whole situation made him a little suspicious though when he saw a dark shadow dashing past him on the other side of the road. Stray dogs? In this part of town?
This district was relatively known for being free of straying animals, especially since dog catchers had the job to check everything thoroughly to provide the citizens a carefree and undisturbed living here.
Taking into consideration how the people surrounding him thought of wild and lonely creatures, the probability to see a stray dog wasn't that grand.
Any change whatsoever and every creature without a protocol that did nothing but crossing their path counted as an endangerment of their daily life and would be reported.
Since the black-haired didn't show any interest in sharing those snobs' opinions though, he just ignored it with another shrug of his shoulders and put one foot in front of the other to finally arrive at home after what felt like an eternity.
Slowly but surely all those interruptions really got on his nerves.
❁
Shortly before turning around the corner he stopped in his tracks. He could feel his stomach turning and tightening as he made out an inhumanly noise reaching his left ear. No matter who it was, no matter what it was, it was right around the corner.
The neck on his hair stood up, his fingers clenched the straps of his bag and even his feet hesitated to proceed; his whole body prevented him from going further.
Despite the countless warnings, his recklessness, maybe even a hint of curiosity and tiredness, got the best of him and his actions.
Oh, he should've taken the bypass through the subway station; it would've taken no longer than five minutes...
Because as soon as he set one of his feet around the corner, he regretted it immediately. A creature, hunched over and distinctly bigger, leaned against the house façades, wheezing and whimpering, one hand resting on its right hip. His eyes, still not adjusted to the darkness, couldn't perceive more than a dark shadow.
One glance onto the ground revealed that it wasn't just a drunk guy on his way home like Yunho would have primarily guessed, but someone who was heavily injured.
A heavy breath of air got stuck in his throat and made him feel like he was in the need of gasping for air.
He had never been able to deal with the sight of blood that well...but maybe he should offer his help anyway?
Even if he would've offered his help, he probably would've never gotten to the end of his sentence, because after only opening his mouth just a little, the black-haired noticed a sudden change in the strangers' movements.
Instead of wheezing and curling up into a ball, it drew itself up to its full height and delivered an aggressive growl, and before Yunho could identify it as his last obvious warning, two almost golden eyes stared directly into his.
Hoping that he could turn his back on the scene in front of him, the young male wanted to escape from his current situation, but instead of running away, all his stumbling feet granted him was a free fall right on his back.
'W-What is this...?'
Incapable of processing any of the things that were happening, his focus still lied on the creature in front of him, steadily approaching the male sitting on the ground. With every step that shortened the distance between them, Yunho could finally register more details.
The bared teeth, the black fur with some plucked spots, the animalistic and hungry gaze and the open wound, probably caused by claws, were now the base for a lot of his upcoming nightmares.
Yunho was petrified. He couldn't feel the cold through his wet clothes, none of his limbs moved, not even a twitch was to be seen.
The only thing he felt at that exact same moment was pure terror.
'I don't want to die, I don't want to die, please, I don't want to die...'
Hoping he could escape his alleged fate, he avoided his eyes and closed them shut, listening to his own thumping heartbeat.
'I want to go home, I want to see mom, I want to live, I can't just leave everyone behind like this... '
He wanted to jump up on his feet, wanted to run away and lie down on his bed, call his mother...no, even wanted to drive to her, hug her tight and stay with her...but now he had to be afraid of never being able to see her again.
A sudden loud crashing noise caused his muscles to shake and his head to shoot up, his eyes allowing him a better view on the scenario playing in front of him.
The previously terrifying, wolf-like creature was now no longer standing in front of him, but leaning in a dent in a garage door, which it probably caused itself.
That would've also explained the loud crash he had heard a few seconds before, the loud sound still echoing in Yunho's head.
Roughly two feet in front of him stood two big feet, their owner being distinctly bigger than anyone the frightened human had ever seen before. His posture resembled that of a person, but he had fur, dark brown fur to be exact.
He just stood there, chest rising up and down with each audible breath he took. It was decorated with a long scar, probably the length of a grown man's hand. His wolf-like nose was scrunched up in disgust, dark eyes focused on the creature opposite of him, heaving in pain.
His deep growls sent shivers down the young male's spine, seemed to send waves of vibrations through his shaking body.
Suddenly a rush of adrenaline ran through his veins and he jumped on his feet, catching the attention of both predators standing not that far away. He already sensed that it was probably the maddest idea he could have had in this situation, but his determination to disappear took over.
From now on his body moved on its own, and he ran into the opposite direction; not even deigning to spare the scene behind his back another glance. Since it just didn't want to let its prey flee, the golden-eyed wolf chased after him, the biggest creature of the three following it close behind.
When you let a human compete against a wolf though, it's pretty obvious which one of them will win their race; Yunho found himself lying flat on the floor of a dark alleyway not even two minutes later, his chin now wounded with a huge scratch after landing on it.
His hands and knees began to burn because of similar wounds...but they disturbed him the least at that moment.
An almost unbearably heavy weight supported itself on his shoulder blades, while his thighs were practically nailed down onto the ground by a clawing paw each.
His neck hair rose up as he felt the wolf's warm breath on the back of his head and the newly forming wounds on his shoulders. Now he was certain that it would be over soon.
But even this time the same threat was gone in a matter of seconds and the black-haired could just about turn around to see the second and still bigger figure throwing the wolf against a far afield wall with only one hand. As if it was nothing.
His body began shaking in shivers as his ears could make out the sound of breaking bones. With his eyes widened in fear, the young male watched the brown-furred creature nearing the black wolf, each of its steps throbbing heavily on the asphalt beneath its feet.
Before witnessing something that would have stained and traumatized him for life, Yunho wanted to avert his eyes, but something, may it have been the fear of being vulnerable and easy to be attacked for just a second, prevented him from doing so.
The brown beast bared his pointy teeth, dangerously reflecting the light rays of the full moon's light. He grabbed the black, almost inferiorly looking wolf by its neck with one hand and lifted it up, as if his weight was just a light feather in the wind.
A whimper could be heard from said wolf, as the latter limited the functionality of its air passages, but even now that its chances were lower than low, it didn't want to give up.
The smaller creature raised its arm and swung its claws across the taller's face, leaving a deep and bloody wound on his cheek and snout. It wiggled its legs and struggled in his grip, but instead of freeing itself, it worsened the situation by tightening the force on its neck by changing the positions constantly.
The giant with brown fur whimpered as a sharp pain stung in his cheek, but he didn't loosen his grip. No, he just watched his opponent digging its own grave. A deep growl made his chest vibrate and sent shivers through his opponent's, as well as Yunho's body. He had had enough.
„Idiot", he hissed, his deep, bassy voice dripping in disgust. Yunho's eyes widened in surprise; he had the ability to talk?
Without another word the giant hurled the for air gasping wolf against the wall once more, and it bounced off, blood escaping its snout. He didn't waste another second before his knife-like claws pulled themselves through the weakened wolf's ribcage and left a fresh wound right above the one on its hip.
Splatters of blood were flung onto the floor in bows and mixed with the puddles in front of the young, frightened man. A scream emitted from his throat as he watched the giant performing his act of revenge.
Tears gathered in his eyes and mixed with the rainwater on his cheeks, raindrops still pouring down on them in torrents. Weakly, without any strength in his legs, he backed away with the help of his hands and leaned against a wired fence, one bruised hand covering his bleeding lip to not cause another attention-grabbing noise.
The golden-eyed wolf that was about to devour him whole just a few minutes ago was now anemically leaning against the wall it was thrown against, gasping for air and covering its wound to slow down the bleeding.
The male could see the torment in its eyes, a glint of remorse and fear and the last twinkle of confidence in the depths of gold.
But before he could make out more of its emotions through the windows to its soul, they closed shut in fear as the brown-furred opponent raised his arm again.
‚D-Don't' Yunho thought as he eyed him taking the final swing at his victim.
His gaze followed the momentarily in slow motion moving hand and a "NO" left his dry lips, just before it came in contact with the smaller's face and turned its head with so much force that the previous predator dropped to the floor with cracking bones.
❁
Terribly frightened and shocked from the scene playing in front of him, the black-haired burst into tears, his body trembling and curled up. His arms were wrapped around his legs and pulled close to his chest, his face burying itself in the space between his knees.
Not even once he would have expected that he would be forced to witness something like this. His head, his conscience, his psyche just couldn't bear it.
He flinched as the heavy steps of the still living creature neared him further and further and every hint of color vanished from his wetted face as it crouched down right in front of him.
He was even more shocked to notice that the previously caused wound on his face was almost completely healed already.
The beast eyed his bruised chin, his hands and his knees; and if Yunho would have paid a little more attention, he could've maybe seen the worry in his eyes. But instead of letting him come any closer, he shrunk back even more and whispered in a shaky voice:
"P-Please...let me go..."
Confused over his behavior, the latter looked at him; did he think he wanted to hurt him? After saving him from that werewolf?
Before giving him the chance to explain himself, Yunho got up on his feet, supporting himself with his grip on the fence. He didn't trust the strength of his legs yet.
Since the lycan was sure that the anxious human wouldn't listen to him, even if he tried to give him an explanation, he just sighed quietly and gave him his long awaited answer.
„You can go."
Relieved by his statement Yunho quickly toppled to the door that promised him the path to freedom, his fingers tremblingly slipping off the wet door knob.
„Let me help you", the stranger suggested, but instead of approval he only received another in fear dripping glare.
„H-help...?", the young male stuttered, daring to let his eyes wander to the corpse of the black wolf, before averting his eyes and eyeing his actual savior once again.
„You...You are a monster!", he yelled with deadly terror in his voice, before tearing the door open and running for his life, not noticing how the other looked after him with pain in his eyes.
