                     Y E M I S I

I couldn't get enough sleep last night, because I kept overthinking the encounter I had with Sade. I didn't understand why my mom overreacted when I told her I met Sade, and I'm still wondering what their past is about.

They used to be bestfriends?

Not even enemies oo!

Besties!

And today, they both hate each other's guts. Why is that? Who wronged who?

"Jesus, this girl can zone out like mad eh. YEMISI!"

I jolted slightly and blinked until my gaze was fixed on Rahzat's perplexed face. We were both at a poolside bar and we were both just chilling. Once in a while, we plan outings for just us both, to clear our minds and bond.

"Sorry, I was thinking about something."

"You too dey think. Wetin you dey think?" she teased, taking a big bite from the fifth box of pizza she had ordered since we got here.

She likes food.

"I'm young, of course I have things to think about," I protested, leaning back in my chair and watching some people swim.

"Oya tell me, what were you thinking about?"

I sighed heavily and she narrowed her eyes at me.

"Alot has been going on lately. First off, there's this ugly muche my mom is dating and he. . ." I trailed off and took a deep breath.

"Hey, are you okay?" she asked, leaning closer to take my hands in hers.

"No," I confessed. "I'm not okay at all. The guy is such a pedophile and-"

"Oh my gosh!" Razhat exclaimed loudly. She's always loud when it comes to exclaiming. "Don't tell me he tried to. . ."

I nodded. "Yes!"

"My goodness. . .How can. . .Why would. . . What kind of. . ." she stammered and shook her head in disgust.

"And there's this woman who my mom hates, but she's constantly showing up in my life lately. I really just don't know what-"

"Leave that matter first," she cut me off while waving both hands like someone who just tasted pepper.

"Have you told your mom?"

"About what?" I asked.

She face palmed herself and frowned. "About what her boyfriend is doing to you? Have you told her? She has to know."

I shrugged and took a spoon of my yogurt. "I've not gotten the chance to."

"Are you cray-cray? There's no perfect time to tell her that, just tell her now."

"I will. But only if he tries it again."

She eyed me with twitched lips. "Why would you want to wait until then? He's definitely going to try that again! Do you want what happened the last time to repeat itself?"

I stared at her blankly, because my mind wandered off to what happened before. However, I exhaled and shrugged the memory off.

"I know, I will do something. Especially because I found out he wants to steal from my mom. He's such a fake."

Rahzat's mood was totally spoiled and she just kept furrowing her brows in anger. I understood why she took such matters seriously.

"I hate such men. Infact, I loathe them," she seethed. "It's even more embarrassing when you're related to such a person."

I sensed the hurt in her tone, so I reached for her own hands this time. "Is he still in prison?"

She laughed bitterly. "Prison ke? He didn't go to prison."

"But I thought you said he was taken to prison?"

"Maybe you've forgotten. He's in the mental asylum. He ran mad, remember?"

"Oh, oh, it's true sef," I said.

"He deserves it, prison is a small punishment for what he did. Now, I constantly face the shame of having a cousin as a rapist, mad man, and drug addict."

She paused for a moment, blinking back tears. "Zion is such a disgrace to our family. Now, my aunt is suffering the loss of her son and husband alone."

I sensed the hurt and anger in Rahzat's tone again, and my grip on her hands tightened in solidarity. "Raz, stop thinking about it."

Her eyes clouded, and she looked away, her jaw clenched. I could feel the tension in her body, the pain and anger. I knew that look, that tone – it was the same one I'd seen in the mirror countless times.

Funny how I attend the school her cousin used to attend. No wonder she never really felt enthusiastic about my school. And my mom thinks WHA is such a prominent school.

Hmm. . .

We sat there in silence for a moment, and the only sound was the gentle lapping of the pool water against the sides. Then, Rahzat took a deep breath and turned back to me.

"You can't let Emeka get away with his actions. I support you. I'm here if you ever need any help, I'll just fly there immediately."

I laughed and shook my head. Razhat is such a character, that's why I love her. "I know, because you have wings bah?"

Rahzat smiled, a small, sad smile. "I can grow wings for your sake."

She stood up from her seat and I did the same. We both embraced each other tightly and she even planted a kiss on my cheek. This girl eh!

Some people were staring at us, and one foolish boy I've never seen in my life, shouted; "Lesbians alert!"

The way Razhat and I looked at him
was fierce, with a mix of annoyance.

"Excuse me?" Rahzat called out. "What did you just say?"

The boy, seemingly fueled by bravado, took a step forward with a towel wrapped around his waist. It was obvious he just came out of the pool.

"I said, lesbians alert!" he repeated, his voice louder this time.

"Raz, ignore him," I whispered, tugging on her arm. "He's clearly stupid."

But Rahzat was having none of it. She strode towards the boy. "You think you're funny? A ugly bitch like you, just became jobless all of a sudden, and the only thing that came to your mind was to look for trouble, abi?"

The boy took a step back, raising his hands up in surrender. "I was just joking oo."

"What kind of stupid joke was that?" I thundered at the boy. "Shey we look like your friends ni? Ogbeni, fuck off."

The boy looked away, and his shoulders slumped in embarrassment. Rahzat turned back to me, after hissing at the boy's retreating back.

"Let's get out of here," she said, linking her arm through mine.

I nodded in agreement, and quickly picked up my purse from the table. My eyes met the remaining pizzas in the box, and I asked Rahzat if she's not going to finish it.

"No," she replied with clenched teeth. "It's reminding me of Zion the bastard. I'll order another one when I get home."

I chuckled, because she got that character from me. Whenever I get mad about something, I automatically hate whatever I'm eating or whatever I have with me. So, I just get rid of it.

Just like I got rid of my iPhone 14 in Principal Kenny's office.

We both walked out, and on our way we passed a table where some Yahoo boys were smoking cigarettes and shisha.

Cigarettes.

The smell made me feel uneasy, and at the same time I. . .I had this feeling of longing.

Rahzat quickly pulled me out of the serene quickly, because she's aware of my asthma. And she's also aware of the incident.

"Are you okay?" she asked me after we entered the backseat of her Toyota Avalon.

I could only nod.

The driver turned on the ignition, and the engine roared to life. He pulled out of the parking lot, and soon after, we were on the road.

"Girl, I forgot to tell you oo!" Rahzat squealed and adjusted her sitting position so she was facing me fully.

"What?"

She smiled, showcasing her thirty-two set of teeth. "Charles and Bella are no longer together. They broke up on Thursday afternoon during break time by 12:21 PM."

I widened my eyes and laughter burst out of my mouth. Not because of Charles and Bella's break up, but because of the way Rahzat said it. See the way she said it like as if she was recording someone's death or birth time.

"This girl, are you sure you're okay?" I asked in-between laughs, and she just kept shining her teeth like what she said was a big accomplishment.

"And guess what happened on Friday morning?"

I slowly recovered from my guffaw, and I asked, "What happened?"

"Charles came to ask me for your number."

My smile was turned upside down immediately. "Are you for real? Did you give it to him?"

"God forbid," she said with pride in her tone.

I smiled and clapped for her. "Good girl. I'm proud of you."

I mimicked Tyla's sister, Sydney, when Tyla asked her if there was anything she'd like to say during the MTV awards. And she was like; 'I'm proud of you.'

I love Tyla eh.

"I told him you now have a boyfriend."

I creased my brows and my mouth dropped open. "You say?"

She smiled even more. "Oh, I said-"

"I got that part!" I snapped at her and she recoiled. "Which boyfriend? I don't have a boyfriend oo!"

"Mitchew," she hissed. "What about that Tyler guy? I thought you said you two are dating."

I placed my hands on my head and I just kept looking at Rahzat in shock. I wanted to slap her head so that her brain would reset. It seemed like it was out of place again.

"Raz?"

"Hmm."

"Which time did I tell you that I'm dating Tyler?"

She opened her mouth and shrugged. "You said so, right?"

"Ode, I did not!"

"Ahahan, I thought you guys were dating oo."

"I don't even like Tyler like that, so how can we be dating?"

Suddenly her eyes widened. "Oh, oh! Wait oo. Tyler is that your childhood enemy that you told me about?"

"Before nko?" I shouted at her. Even the driver had to stare at us through the rear view mirror.

"Oh, I forgot. Sha, I told Charles that you now have a boyfriend named, Tyler," she said nonchalantly.

"You lack sense oo, you know that bah?"

She hissed and started humming to the song that was playing on the radio, while I just kept staring at her.

God, how on earth did I end up with a friend who suffers from temporary amnesia?

                        ✿✿✿

I kept looking at some books on the shelves in the library, but I couldn't find anything good to read. Maybe it's because I barely read anything. Just when I'm in the mood, and that mood comes once in a while.

I paused at the shelf that had literary and debate books. I've always been interested in such arts, but I don't even get the chance to study them.

I'm stuck in science.

I know my mom means well by asking me to study science, but it's really stressing me out. Both mentally and emotionally.

I heard footsteps behind me, so I turned to see who was approaching. It was a familiar face, but I couldn't remember where I've seen him.

He strode towards me with a smirk on his lips, and he just kept walking to me. Even when I thought he was going to stop and maybe take another route, he didn't.

I took a step back, and he took a step forward. The more steps I took back, the more steps he took forward, and it was starting to creep me out.

My back suddenly hit a shelf, and I was trapped. His smirk grew wider, and he approached me. I got my fists ready, just in case he tries something unethical.

"Stay away."

He got so close to my face, and I was about to destroy his manhood when he reached for something behind me.

A book.

He waved the book to my face, winked at me, and laughed like a maniac as he walked away. When he winked, I suddenly remembered where I've seen him. I met him at Gloria's hangout. He was the dark guy who said something about Gabriel disgracing himself in front of the new girl; that's me.

He even winked at me that day.

Gosh. The audacity.

I suddenly felt something crawling on my neck, and I slapped my neck. I looked at my palm, and what I saw on it freaked me out to the core.

"Spider!" I shrieked and didn't even mind the fact that I was in the library. Before anyone could say, Jack Robinson, I was out of there, running like an athlete.

No one was chasing me, but I kept running because I'm just too scared of spiders. And it was on my skin! My skin! I'm definitely going to spend an hour in the shower when I get home.

Omg, what if I become spider woman?

I didn't care about the stares or the whispers from the people around me. All I could think about was getting away from that spider.

Because of my thoughts on how much I hate spiders, I failed to notice a tall figure standing in front of me. Before I could react, I bumped into him, and without warning, we both landed on the floor in the middle of the hallway.

Apparently, I was on top of a guy.

Time seemed to slow down as I flipped my hair backwards, out of my face and my eyes met Tyler's astonished expression.

We both stared at each other, while hearing distant chattering from some students around us.

I was the first to regain my senses, and as I looked at Tyler, I couldn't help but notice the intricate details of his face. His eyes, a deep shade of brown, seemed to hold a warm, gentle light, and his lips, full and inviting, curled into a soft smile.

But his eyes! Oh gosh, his eyes!

It's brown like honey.

A small scar above his left eyebrow added a touch of ruggedness to his features, and he looked so. . .

I don't even know the term to use.

Handsome?

Tyler's handsome?!

"Enjoying the view?"

I snapped out of my reverie and remembered I was still on top of Tyler in a really complicated position. A position a teacher would refer to as, inappropriate.

"W-what?" I stuttered, trying to recall his earlier statement.

He leaned closer and whispered to my ear, "Are you enjoying the view?"

Heat rose up to my cheeks instantly, and my heart even skipped a beat. A beat? Because of Tyler?

Ew, no, no, no, no, NO!

I scrambled to get up, but my hands slipped on the smooth floor, and I landed on Tyler again.

"Ye!" we both yelped in pain as our foreheads clashed.

"Mitchew," I hissed, rubbing my forehead and attempting to stand on my feet, but my feet slipped on the smooth floor again.

I had no idea why I kept slipping, was there grease on the floor or what? It was getting really embarrassing, and the students around us made it more embarrassing with the murmurs and laughters.

I landed on Tyler once more, our bodies entwined in another awkward position.

Tyler groaned, his face contorted in mock pain. "You're going to kill me, aren't you? Please oo, stand up before I suffocate."

I glared at him angrily before hissing and standing up properly. This was Tyler, after all. My annoying, frustrating, utterly infuriating enemy.

That's perfect term to describe him. Even more descriptive than the term, "handsome".

Tyler chuckled and stood up as well, picking up something from the floor. That's when I noticed what he picked up was his phone, and the screen was badly cracked.

And when I say cracked, I mean shattered. Did I break his phone?

Mogbe!

He was busy blowing the screen with air from his mouth, and he slapped the back of the phone repeatedly, trying to make it switch on.

"D-did I do that?" I asked, staring at his poor phone. I don't joke with phones too, they're my babies.

He looked down at my face and chuckled a little. "Yeah."

My mouth dropped open and all I could say was, "I'm sorry."

But I said that in my head.

Remember, I have a big problem with apologizing or thanking people. I don't even understand whether I was just born that way, or it's just pride.

Definitely pride.

I looked at Tyler, who was now focused on his phone again, and I felt so sorry for him. If someone did something like this to me, and dosen't apologize, I might just slaughter the person.

Even though the person apologizes, I might still slaughter them, because me and phone are like five and six.

"I'm sorry."

I heard a voice, and only realized it was my voice when Tyler turned to look at me.

I apologized!

I apologized?!

For the first time in my life, I apologized genuinely!

"Nah, it's nothing serious. I'll just buy a new screen or a new phone."

"But, isn't an iPhone screen replacement expensive as hell?"

He hissed and waved his hand. "Na small thing be that."

True sha.

"I'm really sorry, I didn't mean to-"

I was apologizing again?! Omo!

"It's alright. I can tolerate anything, as long as it's coming from. . .you."

Okay, my heart really skipped this time and I thought it was a cardiac arrest. Why was it skipping? Stop skipping!

Stupid heart!

"By the way, why were you running like that?" he asked as we both walked to class for English period.

We were already fourteen minutes late for the class, and we weren't even bothered because our English teacher is old and cool. Unlike Mr Akin.

"You'll laugh at me."

"What?" he laughed. "Why would I laugh at you? Is it that embarrassing?"

I sighed and nodded frantically.

"Just tell me, I won't laugh," he probed.

"It was because of one stupid spider oo. It was crawling on my neck and I freaked out after killing it on my neck. I just had to run."

Tyler's lips twitched, and he tried to hold back his laughter, but it was no use. He burst out laughing, and I paused to glare at him with folded arms.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" he choked out between laughs, holding up his hands. "It's just...the image of you running away from a spider. A dead spider for that matter!"

"It's not funny, Tyler! Spiders are terrifying!"

But Tyler just laughed harder, his laughter echoing down the hallway. I couldn't help but laugh too, his infectious laughter drew me in.

"I can't even-" he choked again, recovering from his laughter. "I can't believe you're scared of spiders. A whole Yemisi."

"I know, it's embarrassing. I told you you'd laugh at me," I said, already walking away.

"Come on, it's not that embarrassing," Tyler stated, matching his pace with mine. "If I even tell you what I'm afraid of, you'll post it on your Instagram."

"You better tell me. I told you my own."

"Of course I'll tell you, why not?"

I smiled eagerly and nudged his arm. "Oya talk."

"I fear clowns."

I burst out laughing, unable to contain my amusement. "Clowns?! You're afraid of clowns?! Asin, something so childish!"

Tyler's face turned bright red, and he looked around nervously, as if afraid someone would overhear our conversation.

"Shh, it's not funny! Clowns are creepy, okay? Their makeup, their outfits it's all just so unsettling. I mean, who in their right senses think clowns are cute?"

"I find them cute."

He looked at me with his lips slightly parted. "Then you're a creep."

I laughed even harder, holding my stomach in pain. "Gosh! This is priceless! The great Tyler Ogbe, afraid of clowns. Clowns oo!"

Tyler's embarrassment turned to mock anger, and he playfully shoved me. "Shut up! It's not funny. At least I'm not afraid of a pathetic spider."

My laugh trailed off and I smacked the back of his head. "Don't start using it to blackmail me, ejó."

He laughed and slowly shook his head. "You shouldn't try that with me either. And don't even think of dressing up like a clown or hiring one, just to scare me. I know how you can be sometimes, especially when we argue."

"Thank God you know. But, don't worry, I won't. Yet."

He smirked and stared at me like he was staring at the most fascinating thing in the world. I ruffled his hair before walking ahead of him.

I couldn't believe I was vibing with Tyler like that. Tyler the weirdo.

I shook my head in amazement, and my eyes caught sight of Divine, standing close to the press room door. It seemed like she was just stepping out.

Her eyes flicked to me, and then to Tyler, and then back at me, before it landed on Tyler again.

"See Divine oo. She hasn't even gone to class yet," Tyler said with laughter in his tone.

He waved his hand and called out to her, but this girl just walked away.

She snobbed him like that.

Wahala.

Tyler's enthusiasm disappeared slowly as he watched her go. After sometime he shrugged and we both continued walking to class.

Divine is weird.

<─────────>
A/N

Is Divine actually weird, or is she just in love?😂

I feel sorry for her though. It's painful to like someone and then a competition just derives from nowhere to steal all the person's attention.

But, who are we even rooting for like this🤔?

We shall see sha.

Abeg, what's Yemisi's problem with cigarette??!

I don't understand why she freaks out after seeing one🤔

So, Zion is Rahzat's cousin 😱😱!!!

Zion Williams oo!

And now, he has a bad reputation for life 😔. I feel so bad for Zion.

PSYCH🤪😂😂😂😂😂

Thanks for reading and putting up with my crazy behaviour 😂.

Expect another update tonight 🤪. My gift to y'all for vday!!!

Please oo, don't let us fight. Biko, VOTE 🙂 🔪 🔪 🔪 *sharpens knife*

Gas me up, gimme motivation 😩

Okay, bye❤️
