Ep.5: Psychic Showdown

(3rd Person PoV)

"Yuuuuuuume! Can you help me with my homework?" Beni burst into her room.

Yume flinched, letting go of her carefully placed cards which went flying all over her room.

She swore under her breath before turning to her brother who just grinned at her cheekily.

"What?" She asked.

"Can you help me with my homework? I don't understand history," Beni showed her his homework.

"Fine...," Yume sighed and read it.

"Oh wait, you're taking American History? I thought that was for second years," she noted.

"You didn't hear? The old teacher quit so they had to hire another one but she only taught first years so they had to change it for first years," Beni explained.

"Ah...wonder why did the old one quit?" Yume asked.

"Dunno," Beni shrugged.

"Anyway, Woodrow Wilson was the President of the United States during World War One and during the passing of the 19th Amendment," Yume explained.

"Ah ok...what was the 19th Amendment again?" Beni asked.

"Women's Rights in America, Beni," Yume replied.

"Ok," Beni said.

(The Next Day)

Yume was walking through the third year hallway to her class.

Things were calming down and not many people were challenging her to a duel. It was honestly exhausting, accepting or declining those requests.

She stopped and pulled out her deck. She took one card out and stared at it.

Green Eyes...you're an interesting monster, she thought.

Yume sighed to herself. To be frank, she isn't quite sure how she managed to pull of Soul Summoning and that's how she was able to summon Green Eyes.

She had Green Eyes since a long time ago but wasn't able to summon him until last year and even then...was that a fluke?

I don't think it is since I have summoned him twice since then...but who knows, Yume thought.

"Yume Hibiki!" Someone called out to her which interrupted her thoughts.

She turned around to see a boy with green hair and looked like he ran a mile to get here.

"Uhhh do I know you?" Yume asked.

"I challenge you to a duel!" The boy pulled out his duel disk and put it on.

"Huh?! But it's almost time for class, I can't duel now," Yume pointed out.

"Doesn't matter, we duel now!" The boy said.

"Yuuuume! Help!" Beni then appeared and jumped in front of his sister.

"What now?" Yume sighed.

"How do you un-piss a teacher off?" Beni asked.

"Excuse me. What?" Yume asked.

"I may or may not have pissed Mrs. Kaneko off and I didn't mean to so I ran here," Beni explained.

"What do you mean? And who is Mrs. Kaneko?" Yume asked.

"She's the new history teacher that I told you about yesterday. And I don't want to talk about how I pissed her off," Beni explained.

"Geez...," Yume muttered.

"Excuse me!" The boy shouted.

"Oh how did you get here?" Beni asked.

"I was here first and I need to duel her so get out!" The boy shouted.

"A duel? Can you duel me instead?" Beni asked.

"No! I don't want to duel you, I want to duel her," The boy snapped.

"No, me!" Beni waved his arms around.

"We don't have time to duel at all! We have class," Yume pointed out.

"That doesn't matter. To the rooftop!" The boy ended up dragging Yume to the roof, Beni running after them while trying to convince the boy to duel him instead.

"Now get your deck and duel me," the boy said.

"For the last time, no," Yume folded her arms.

She then looked at Beni, who was holding onto his Duel Disk.

"Duel him instead. He's more enthusiastic about dueling you," she said.

"Yes! Thank you sis!" Beni exclaimed happily.

"Ugh! If I duel him, will I able to duel you after?" The boy asked.

"Ummm...sure," Yume murmured.

"Fine I accept your duel! I'm Tama Yori, prepare to be defeated," Tama said.

"Ok! I'm Beni Hibiki and I won't be defeated," Beni nodded.

"DUEL!"

Beni - 4000 LPS

V.S.

Tama - 4000 LPS

"I'll go first. I summon Puppet Dancer (ATK: 500. DF: 400) and use its effect. When normal or special summoned, I can add a psychic monster from my deck and special summon it onto the field. I choose Puppet Slicer (ATK: 200. DF: 200). I set two cards down and end my turn," Tama said.

Two wooden humanoids, one had a red dress and the other had silver knives for hands appeared on his field.

"Alright, I draw!" Beni exclaimed and looked at his hand then he smiled.

"I set Scale 2 Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer (ATK: 1500. DF: 800) and Scale 5 Performapal Barracuda (ATK: 500. DF: 1100) to set the Pendulum Scale. Things are looking my way now!" He shouted.

Two monsters were beamed up in two pillars of light above Beni.

"I can summon monsters from level 3 and 4 at the same time. I pendulum summon!"

Three monsters appeared on his field.

"Sing your heart out, Performapal Ladyange (ATK: 1000. DF: 1500)! Let's do this, Performapal Skullcrobat Joker (ATK: 1800. 100)! And last but not least, Performapal Ballad (ATK: 500. DF: 1100)!" Beni shouted.

Tama looked somewhat impressed with this.

"And now I attack your monster with Performapal Skullcrobat Joker. Skull joke bomb!" Beni shouted and his monster went to attack Puppet Dancer.

"Trap card! Psychic Soul! I tribute a psychic monster that I control and I gain life points based on the level of my monster times 300!" Tama shouted.

"Wait but that'll mean that you won't have any other monsters to defend yourself from Beni's other attacks!
Yume noted.

"I'll still have plenty of life points to spare," Tama shrugged it off.

4000 —> 4900 LPS

4900 —> 3600 LPS

Tama just shrugged it off like it was nothing.

"I...I'll do a direct attack on you with Ballad," Beni
said.

3600 —> 3100 LPS

"Then I end my turn," Beni said, surprising Yume. Why did he end his turn there? He could have attacked with Performapal Ladyange so Tama could have 2100 life points instead? She thought.

"Hmmph! Alright then. I activate my face down spell, Puppet Show. When I have no monsters on the field, I can special summon a Level 4 or lower from my hand or deck. I special summon Puppet Diva (ATK: 1800. DF: 400)," Tama stated. Another wooden humanoid that wore a frilly pink dress with a star marking on its right eye appeared.

"While Puppet Diva can't attack this turn, she can use her effect which is, by paying 500 life points, I can bring back a Psychic monster from my graveyard so I'll bring back Puppet Dancer. Next Puppet Dancer's effect kicks in again to add a Psychic monster from my deck to my hand and I can special summon it on the field," Tama started.

3100 —> 2600 LPS

"I'll choose Puppet Balancer (ATK: 300. DF: 300). But don't think that'll be all because I can use these three monsters to Link summon!" Tama shouted and a blue circuit board with arrows at the ends appeared.

"Hmmm?" Yume seemed confused. "You can Link summon?" Beni asked and Tama nodded. "Exactly! Now the summoning conditions require at least two Earth monsters so I'm setting Puppet Dancer, Diva and Balancer in the Link arrows! Link summon! Link 3, Puppeteer Dreadful (ATK: 2000. LINK- 3 ⬆️↙️↘️)!" He shouted.

A humanoid that was a mix of flesh and wood appeared and wore a black tuxedo and had white gloves with puppet strings coming out from the fingers.

"Link summon?" Yume asked.

"It's kind of new in a sense. Link monsters don't have defense points and can't switch positions. Despite that, they have really strong effects especially due to the link arrows," Beni explained.

"He's right. In fact, I'll use Puppeteer Dreadful's effect now! When I have lower Life points than you, I can add a psychic monster from my graveyard to my hand and inflict 100 points of damage for each of its levels or links. I'll add my level four Puppet Diva back to my hand to inflict a total of 400 points of damage!" Tama declared.

4000 —> 3600 LPS

"Next I'll use Puppet Balancer's effect. By banishing it from my graveyard, I regain 400 life points and inflict 400 to you," Tama said.

2600 —> 3000 LPS

3600 —> 3200 LPS

"Now I'll attack your Performapal Ballad!" Tama shouted.

"Not if I use Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer' Pendulum effect! If Pendulum summoned, all of my Performapal monsters that I currently control gain 1000 attack points," Beni exclaimed.

500 —> 1500 ATK

1000 —> 2000 ATK

1800 —> 2800 ATK

"I won't stop my attack though. Continue through with String of Dread!" Tama shouted and his monster swung its arms and captured Beni's monster with the strings, giving it a tight squeeze before destroying it.

3200 —> 2700 LPS

"I see. By making your monster's attack points higher, that would minimize the damage caused to your life points, Beni," Yume said in awe.

"But what's a Pendulum effect?" She then asked. She had that question in her mind since her and Beni's duel against the Kaede twins.

"It's an effect similar to a spell card but a monster has that instead. It's not like it's monster effect," Beni explained.

"Oh...that would explain a lot," Yume said and Beni just shrugged.

"I end my turn then if you're done talking," Tama said as he set a card.

"Alright, it's my turn now!" Beni shouted.

"Time to get serious! I activate the Continuous Spell, Bubble Barrier which means any Performapal or Performage monster that I control cannot be destroyed by battle or card effect. I also don't take any damage regarding those monsters," Beni started.

That's going to be a pain, Tama thought.

"And then I Pendulum Summon Performapal Ballad again," Beni said and Yume seemed confused. "Wait, wasn't that monster sent to the graveyard?" She asked but Beni shook his head.

"Pendulum monsters, when they leave the field, are sent to the Extra deck instead which means I can Pendulum summon them out of there," he explained.

He added, "since Performapal Ballad was Pendulum summoned, I can use Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer's Pendulum effect again,"

500 —> 1500 ATK

"And now I attack you with Ladyange!" Beni shouted.

"Wait but our monsters have the same attack points. They'll both get destroyed!" Tama cried.

"Not true but I still have two monsters left and one of them has enough attack points to significantly lower them down," Beni explained. I have 3000 life points and his strongest monster right now is Skullbat Joker with 2800 attack points. Even if Puppeteer Dreadful isn't destroyed in battle, I'll still take damage! Tama thought.

"Attack with Angelic Melody!" Beni shouted and his monster began to sing.

"Like hell I'm going to let that happen. I activate my Quick-Play Spell from my hand, Puppet Change. When a Puppet or Puppeteer monster is attacked in battle, I can switch that monster out with another one from my graveyard or extra deck. I'll switch out Puppeteer Dreadful with Link 4, Puppeteer Delight (ATK: 2400 LINK -4 ⬆️⬅️⬇️➡️)," Tama said.

Another humanoid that was a mix of flesh and wood appeared, wearing a yellow tuxedo and also had white gloves that had puppet strings coming out from the fingers.

"Did you forget about my continuous spell? My monsters aren't destroyed nor do I take damage from them," Beni explained.

"Yeah but I'm not going to have you attack me directly," Tama said.

"Hmmm, a little bit of a smart move but I still have a monster that has enough power to defeat your monster," Beni said and his Skullbat Joker appeared suddenly in front of him and tossed some bombs at Puppeteer Delight.

"I activate my trap, Puppet Shield! By discarding a card, I can negate the destruction towards my psychic monsters," Tama said but Beni just merely sighed at this. "You still take damage," he told him.

3000 —> 2600 LPS

"It's better than what I would have taken if I didn't switch out my Link monsters," Tama said.

"Fine, fine. I end my turn," Beni sighed. This guy is tougher than I thought so I better finish this duel up during my next turn, he thought.

Tama drew a card and looked at it. Since he can pendulum summon from the Extra deck, I need to get rid of his scale. It's a risk but a risk I'll take, he thought. "I activate Puppeteer Delight's effect! By paying 1000 life points, I can destroy up to two spell cards on your field," Tama shouted and Beni cried out, "Say what?!"

"Huh? But Beni only has his continuous spell out, although getting rid of it would be beneficial," Yume murmured. "Wrong, because Pendulum monsters count as spell cards while in the Pendulum scale," Beni explained.

2600 —> 1600 LPS

Both of his cards disappeared at this. This is bad. Beni doesn't have a whole lot of cards left in his hand, it's possible if he lives this turn, he may have bricked if he doesn't draw the right card, Yume thought.

"Next, once that effect resolves, I can special summon a psychic monster from my graveyard next to one of my monster's links. Then Puppeteer Delight gains 300 attack points for every monster next to its links. I'm choosing Puppet Slicer," Tama added.

2400 —> 2700 ATK

"Still, my continuous spell prevents my monsters from being destroyed and I don't take damage from attacks involving my monsters," Beni said but his confidence was slowly falling.

"Yeah but there's nothing about direct attacks which Puppet Slicer can do. Direct attack, Slice Maneuver!" Tama shouted and his monster did a spin and sliced at Beni.

2700 —> 2500 LPS

"I still have more life points than you though," Beni said but Tama merely laughed. "By paying 500 life points, I can make a second attack if Puppet Slicer had inflicted damage to your life points," he explained and Beni flinched at this.

1600 —> 1100 LPS

His monster spun again and sliced at Beni.

2500 —> 2300 LPS

Still, why risk paying life points for 200 points of damage? Yume thought. "I end my turn and by the end phase, as long as Puppeteer Delight is on my field, I regain 600 life points," Tama explained after setting a card.

1100 —> 1700 LPS

Does his strategy involve burn damage and life point regeneration? If so, he can trap Beni in a loop of 200 burn damage. It may not seem much but 200 points of damage can add up until it eventually goes to zero, Yume thought before a prick of pain came to her head. "Ow...I think my brain overheats with too much dueling information," she muttered. Still, Beni has to be careful when it comes to his turn, she thought.

Beni hesitantly drew a card but didn't look at it at first. I can't brick this turn, I need a card that'll switch things around. All I have in my hand is one Pendulum monster, I have to have drew another one with a different Pendulum scale than this one in order to bring the scales back together, he thought before slowly turning the card over to reveal...

!

"YES!" Beni cheered, happily. I can boost my monsters' attack points with these! He thought. "What did he draw?" Yume asked, curiously. Even Tama leaned forward to hear what Beni had to say.

"I set Scale 3 Performapal Gold Fang (ATK: 1800. DF: 700) and Scale 5 Performapal Silver Fang (ATK: 1800. DF: 700) to create the Pendulum scale again!" Beni shouted. Two wolf creatures appeared, one silver and one gold. They were beamed up into Pendulum Scales.

"Why set up your Pendulum scales if I can use my monster to just destroy them?" Tama asked. "Because I won't let you use that effect. By activating Performapal Silver Fang's Pendulum effect, all Performapal monsters that I control gain 300 attack points," Beni explained.

1500 —> 1800 ATK

2000 —> 2300 ATK

2800 —> 3100 ATK

"Alright, you boosted your monster's attack points to an even higher degree," Yume cheered, softly. "This is...," Tama looked at the set card he had and was wondering about something.

"I'll have Performapal Ballad attack your Puppet Slicer. Thorny Slash!" Beni shouted. His monster sharpens its blade before slicing Tama's monster.

1700 LPS —> 100 LPS

I have the monster with the biggest attack points. If I attack now, then I'll win this duel! Even if my first monster attack doesn't destroy his, he'll still take damage. Yes and that's exactly what I'll do! He thought.

"Go, Skullcrobat Joker! Attack and finish this duel!" He shouted.

"I activate Puppet Sliced's Quick effect. By banishing it, I can destroy a spell card on the field and I'm choosing your Bubble Barrier," Tama started. "What!?" Beni gasped as his spell was destroyed. Next I'll use the trap card, Ring of Destruction! I destroy your monster and we both take damage equal to that destroyed monster's attack points!" Tama intervened.

"What the-No!!" Beni cried.

His monster got destroyed which caused a whirlwind that knocked both duelist off their feet.

100 —> 0 LPS

2300 —> 0 LPS

DRAW!

"Beni!" Yume rushed to her brother's side as he lay on the floor.

He sat up immediately, "Awww Damn it! I was so close to winning!"

"You were but you forgot about his face down," Yume told him.

Beni sighed heavily at this.

"Damn, that's not how I wanted this duel to go," they heard Tama muttered.

He then walked up to them.

"If only I didn't forget about your face down, I would have won this duel," Beni told him as he got up to face Tama.

"Yeah right. I specifically lure you to attack and when you least expect it, I would trap you and take you down with me," Tama said. Says the one who struggled through the midway point of the duel, Yume thought while sweatdropping.

"No way! I would have absolutely beaten you," Beni said.

"Well now that your duel is done, we should head to class," Yume spoke up.

"Don't think you're out of the loop! I still need to duel you!" Tama pointed out.

"You had a draw with Beni and you still want to duel me? Besides, we need to get to class before we get in trouble," Yume pointed out.

"Speaking of which, I should have expected more of a third year," a voice said.

The three of them turned around to see a woman with orange hair with her hands on her hips. She looked unfamiliar to Yume but Beni gulped.

"That's Mrs.Kaneko," he whispered to Yume.

"Oh...," Yume whispered back.

"What in the world is a third year, a second year and a first year doing on the roof?" Mrs.Kaneko asked.

"Wait second year? Does that mean...THAT YOU'RE MY UPPERCLASSMAN!" Beni shouted in shock and pointed to Tama.

"Yeah...?" Tama stated.

"Well then...," Beni then began to fidget with his sleeves.

"Did you not bring your-?" Yume asked but Beni cut her off with, "No I left them at home."

"Detention for all three of you!" Mrs.Kaneko stated.

"..."

"WHAT?!" All three of them screamed.

"Stay after school today to serve that detention. Now get back to class!" Mrs.Kaneko walked away.

"NOOOOO! It's barely the first week of school and I already have detention!" Beni cried.

"It's my first detention in years!" Yume also cried.

"It's my first detention ever," Tama sighed.

Overall, not a very good day for them.

A/N: it's been a while, hello! I hope you enjoyed this chapter.

It's Beni's turn to shine and yeah we all saw how it went.

Idk what else to say really.
