Ep.3: The Dueling Twins
(3rd Person PoV)
Much to Yume's dismay, the blue hair streak came back no matter how many times she cut it off.
Eventually she just gave up about it and hid that streak behind her purple hair. After all, it is just one streak.
She kept hiding it for days, turned to weeks, turned into months until the next school year.
Finally! A third year in high school.
"Yume!" Tsumugi called out.
Yume was dozing off on a bench but perked up when she heard her friend calling her.
"Don't doze off! You'll miss the twins opening ceremony! It'll be the Duel of the century!" Tsumugi jumped up and down.
"Nngh...I'll be there," Yume yawned.
Duel of the Century sure. They'll just win again like they did our first and second year, she thought as she rubbed the sleepiness out of her eyes.
She hesitated over her left eye. Yume was still wearing her eye contact that made her eyes seem like the same colors instead of one of them being a lighter shade of blue.
She shook her head before getting up from the bench.
There are these two rich twins at their school. The Kaede twins. Their father is the founder of KaedeCorp which manufactures Duel cards and duel disks like any other corporation that has anything to do with Dueling.
It's a very successful company.
As expected, the twins are ferocious duelists. Unbeatable, although there was a rumor that the youngest twin was beaten before but no one really knows what happened to that rumor.
The school always does an opening ceremony that welcomes new and old students. It can be anything from the teachers and students on the student council.
One thing that was always consistent though, was the duel that takes places after.
Two on two duel. Whoever wins that duel gets named Opening Champions. Doesn't matter if they lose later on in the year, if they won one year and are not third years, they are the ones fighting to keep their title.
What matters is how fun it would be to be the Opening Champions!
Yume smiled to herself. It was always fun to see other people duel. Even if she hasn't dueled in a long time.
Despite that, ever since her duel with Akio, Yume always carries around her duel deck.
She doesn't know why she does, it just happens. Maybe a sense of comfort?
Opening:
[There should be a GIF or video here. Update the app now to see it.]
The opening ceremony went smoothly. There were some people of the Light Music club who were preforming, the Comedy Club did some kind of comedy routine that made people laugh and the Theater Club did a short skit featuring some of the teachers.
A girl with golden brown hair walked up to the stage after the skit was done and took the microphone.
"Hellllloooooooo students of Starry Night High!" She started and everyone hollered out the name of the school.
"This is the moment you all have been waiting for! Please welcome up, the reigning Opening Champions, the Kaede Twins!" She exclaimed.
Two boys walked up to the stage.
One of them had grey, fluffy hair that covered his ears while the other had a more darker grey color hair and it was more spikey.
"WE LOVE YOU AKUMA!" Some people called out.
"GO GET THEM RAIDEN!" Other people yelled.
Akuma, the youngest and with dark grey hair, waved at the crowd, grinning widely.
Raiden, the oldest and with grey fluffy hair, crossed his arms nervously.
"Now we're going to ask for volunteers! Who would like to challenge the reigning champions and possibly win the title of Opening Champions?" The girl asked.
Some people murmured amongst themselves.
They know how strong the twins are. They don't want to humiliate themselves by losing that quickly. Even if they can't beat them, they still want to at least make a large dent in their life points.
Give the twins a challenge.
"Going once! ... Going twice! Don't be shy!" The girl cheered.
Some people were very much hesitant in volunteering.
Until...
A single hand rose in the air.
"Oh what's this?" The girl asked.
Yume looked around at whoever was raising their hand. Who it was shocked her.
"BENI?!" She cried.
"Isn't that your brother?" Tsumugi asked, worriedly and Yume nodded rapidly.
Beni was raising his hand confidently, albeit standing on his toes because he was smaller than most of the high schoolers around him.
"Well then! Come on up to the stage!" The girl said and Beni walked up, confidently.
"We have our first volunteer! What's your name and grade?" The girl asked.
She handed him the microphone and Beni cleared his throat.
"I'm Benjiro Hibiki but everyone calls me Beni. I'm a first year and Dueltainer in training!" He exclaimed proudly.
"A Dueltainer?!"
"A first year challenging the twins?! Yeesh I feel sorry for the poor guy."
"Yume...he shares your last name. Are you two related?" Lily asked.
"He's...my younger brother," Yume groaned.
"Ah how enthusiastic! We haven't had a first year challenge since they came to the school," the girl nodded at the twins, "but one problem. The duel is a tag duel, two on two. So you better have someone in mind to duel alongside you," she said.
Beni took a deep breath and yelled into the microphone.
"YUME GET YOUR BUTT OVER HERE AND DUEL ALONGSIDE ME!"
"E-Ehhhhhh?!" Yume yelped.
"Yume..."
"You're..."
"A DUELIST?!" Natsuki and Lily cried.
I knew I shouldn't have woken up today, Yume thought, embarrassed.
Some people were looking around for her and some locked eyes on Yume.
Yume gulped and stared at the ground, her mind racing.
Oh god oh god oh god! Yume never really liked attracting attention. She prefers to stay in the background.
"Like come on, girl! You got to do this! We'll be cheering you on!" Momo said.
Not helping!
"Yume! Yume!" The girls, minus Tsumugi were cheering her name which made everyone else chant her name.
".........ALRIGHT!" Yume rose her voice which surprised people who knew her since first year.
Tsumugi placed her hand on Yume's shoulder.
"Good luck," she said in a low voice.
Yume sighed and she walked up to the stage with people cheering her on.
"Introduce yourself to the crowd!" The girl exclaimed.
Yume took the microphone from Beni.
"I'm...," she gulped, "Yume Hibiki and I'm a third year."
"Wow! A brother and sister tag duel! How exciting!" The girl exclaimed.
"She's a third year? Have we seen her before, Akuma?" Raiden asked.
"Yume Hibiki...the only thing that I know about her is that she is in 3-C like you. Surprise you don't know her," Akuma explained.
"Ah...haven't seen her," Raiden admitted.
Meanwhile, Yume was scolding Beni.
"How dare you drag me into this! You know I'm not a duelist. Now I'm going to humiliate myself and you in front of the whole school!" She yelped.
"No don't worry! I got a plan!" Beni exclaimed.
We're going to lose, Yume thought.
"Beni, I don't even have a Duel Disk," she sighed.
"Here!" Beni handed her one.
"What?!"
"I was going to wait for your birthday to give you it but this is important! So happy early birthday (which is in a couple of months)," Beni smiled.
"..." Yume was speechless.
"Now come on! It's time to duel!" Beni said excitedly.
"....fine. But I'm making you pay regardless if we win or lose," Yume sighed as she slipped on the Duel Disk. Beni grinned as he also slipped on his Duel Disk.
We'll most definitely lose, she thought.
The twins placed their Duel Disks on as well and the four of them walked forward onto the stage.
"Everyone ready? If so...HERE! WE! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" The girl shouted.
Everything roared with excitement as the duel started.
"Let's Duel!"
Yume/Beni- 8000 LPS
Vs
Raiden/Akuma - 8000 LPS
"Our life points are doubled this time," Yume noted.
"Tag Duel Rules which can also count as Tournament rules," Beni explained. Oh cool, Tournament Rules...wait a minute, Yume thought but there was no time to dwell on that.
"You can go first," Akuma said to Beni.
"Really? Awesome! Then I can start with...," Beni drew a card and looked at his hand.
Great! I struck gold! Sis and I can win this! He thought.
"I summon Saggi the Dark Clown (ATK: 600. DF: 1500) in attack mode! Then I set two cards down! That's my opening act!" Beni snapped his fingers as he finished.
Yume sweatdropped.
I hope he has a plan, she thought.
"Interesting...but will that be enough?" Akuma asked as he drew a card.
He smiled, "I summon Unknown Warrior of Fiend(ATK: 1000. DF: 500)Then I tribute him to summon Legendary Fiend!(ATK: 1500. DF: 1800).That is all after I set this card down. I end my turn," Akuma said..
"Wow they have no chance against the twins," someone from the crowd said.
Yume sighed to herself.
"Then it's my turn. I draw!" She said and looked at her hand.
She then glanced at Beni who had a big grin on his face.
What's he thinking? She thought.
Yume then turned her attention to the field.
"I summon Spellbook Magician of Prophecy (ATK: 500. DF: 400) and since I normal summoned him, I can use his effect. I can add a Spellbook spell card from my deck to my hand," Yume rummage through her deck to find the perfect spell card.
It's too early to determine what type of deck she used. A lot of dueltainers use Performapals and Performamages so I can take a guess that Beni uses those. I can only assume that she uses a deck full of spellcasters for now, Raiden thought.
"I use the spell card Spellbook of Power! I target one spellcaster that I control and he gains 1000 attack points!" Yume exclaimed.
500 —> 1500 ATK
Ok so her monster now has the same amount of attack points as Akuma's monster. If only her monster had a bigger boost, Raiden thought.
"Then I equip Spellbook Magican with the Spell Card Wonder Wand. He now gains 500 attack points," Yume added on.
A wand with a green sphere appeared and Spellbook Magican grabbed onto it.
1500 —> 2000 ATK points
"Next I-," Yume started but then Beni nudged her with his elbow.
"You can't attack until after I go next. It's tag duel rules," he told her.
"You're telling me this now?" Yume asked and Beni sheepishly shrugged.
"Fine, I place one card face down and I end my turn," Yume finished.
"My turn, I draw! I have seen that at least one of you has a plan and I'm very interested to see what it is. But I won't let you win," Raiden said.
"I discard Thunder Dragon (ATK: 1600. DF: 1500) to add two Thunder Dragons from my deck to my hand. Next, by discarding Thunder Dragonhawk (ATK: 1800. DF: 2200), I can special summon a Thunder Dragon monster that has been banished or in my graveyard so I'm special summoning my discarded Thunder Dragon," he explained.
Yume looked up at the green dragon with electricity crackling around it.
"Normally having monsters with high levels and almost no low level monsters would be a brick but that's where effects come in like him discarding his monster to not only add two more but also discarding another to special summon that monster," Beni gasped.
"So he uses them to his advantage. Gotcha, he seems like a skilled duelist," Yume said.
"Ahem! I'm here too," Akuma complained.
"Patience, Akuma. They'll see your skills too," Raiden assured him but Akuma still glared at him with annoyance.
"There's not much I can do now but to set this card and end my turn," Raiden said.
Beni took a deep breath at this. It's time now, he thought.
"My turn! I draw! Hehehehe...ladies and gentlemen and everyone else in between! It's time for my debut at Starry Night High! I will show you a summoning technique that will blow your socks off!" Beni exclaimed.
He showed two cards.
"I'll use Scale 2 Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer (ATK: 1500. DF: 800) and Scale 5 Performapal Barracuda (ATK: 500. DF: 1100) to set the Pendulum Scale! Things are looking my way now!" He yelled and set the two cards apart from each other on his duel disk.
Two monsters appeared in a beam of light and floated above Beni and Yume.
"I can summon monsters from level 3 and 4 at the same time. I pendulum summon!"
Three monsters suddenly appeared on their field.
"Sing your heart out, Performapal Ladyange(ATK: 1000. DF: 1500)! And last but not least,Trick to it Performage Trick Clown (ATK: 1600. DF: 1200)! Beni finished.
The crowd whoa'd at this.
"Pendulum Summon? That's incredible! We have seen a fair share of amazing summoning techniques but not Pendulum Summon!" The girl cried.
"Next I'll use Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer's Pendulum's effect! If a Performapal has been pendulum summoned, they gain 1000 attack points," Beni explained.
1000 —> 2000 ATK
"So attack, Ladyange! Show them what you're made of by attacking Akuma's legendary fiend!" Beni shouted.
"Not so fast! I activate the trap card Mask of Weakness! When your monster is attacking, they lose 700 life points until the end phase," Akuma suddenly shouted.
2000 —> 1300 ATK
"Crap!" Beni cried before quickly saying, "Performapal Ballad's Pendulum Effect! During the damage stage when my monster battles another, I can make that monster lose 600 attack points!"
"Hmmph!" Akuma huffed.
1500 —> 900 ATK
The attack went through but the damage to the twin's life points was very little.
8000 —> 7600 LPS
"...damn. I end my turn then," Beni sighed.
1300 —> 2000 ATK
Yeah, that won't be enough because of Raiden's Thunder Dragon on the field, Yume thought.
Also what's a Pendulum effect? She's vaguely aware of what Pendulum Summoning is thanks to seeing Beni doing that beforehand but she doesn't know what a Pendulum effect is.
"That was a great struggle but now it comes to an end," Akuma said as he drew a card.
"I summon Dark Blade (ATK: 1800. DF: 1500) and then I activate the spell card Axe of Despair which makes my Dark Blade's attack points go up by 1000!" He shouted.
1800 —>2800 ATK
"No way! That could wipe out my monsters!" Beni yelped.
"Attack Saggi the Dark Clown! Blade of Darkness!" Akuma shouted.
Dark Blade advanced and sliced at Saggi which destroyed it, causing Beni's and Yume's life points to go down.
8000 —> 5800 LPS
"I set a card face down and end my turn," Akuma finished.
"Oh god, our life points," Beni winced.
"You rely a lot on flashing moves and yet you don't seem to follow up on those moves. You're weighing your sister down," Akuma noted.
"What? No I'm not!" Beni said.
"It's true. A Tag Duel is supposed to be a teamwork duel. You both seem to be not working together," Raiden added on.
"Teamwork?" Yume asked.
"You'll see when it comes to my turn," Raiden sighed.
Yume glanced at Beni, whose fists were shaking.
He tried hard to entertain people and yet...can he win alongside her?
I need to draw now...it's my turn, she thought.
"Beni...could I use your monsters for a tribute summon?" Yume asked.
"Yeah...ah I forgot to explain that we share this field so yeah I suppose you can," Beni nodded.
"I summon Kidmodo Dragon (ATK: 100. DF: 200) and then I tribute him and Performage Trick Clown to tribute summon Athena (ATK: 2600. DF: 800)!" Yume shouted.
Interesting, what a strong monster! Raiden thought.
"I may not be able to attack Akuma's Dark Blade but I can attack your Thunder Dragon, Raiden!" Yume declared.
"I see," Raiden narrowed his eyes, his fingers slowly making their way to a card on his left.
"Exactly so Athena, attack! Wisdom Wrath!" Yume commanded and her monster lifted her staff up and went to slice Raiden's monster down.
"By discarding Thunder Dragonmatrix (ATK: 0. DF: 2000), I can target a Thunder monster I control and it gains 500 attack points. I choose my Thunder Dragon," Raiden explained.
"What?" Yume asked.
"I'll give you this much, my monster will get destroyed but I lessen the damage that Akuma and I will take to our life points. The best you must do is to take big chunks from our life points and not crumbs of them unless you have a burn strategy in place," Raiden explained as his monster was destroyed.
1600 —> 2200 ATK
7600 —> 7100 LPS
He's right on that. We can't stall this duel for too long, she thought before saying, "I end my turn.
"I draw! This may be a little too generic but it's the best I can do. I discard Thunder Dragonroar to add a Thunder Dragon from my graveyard. Next I'll use the spell card, Polymerization to fuse two Thunder Dragons. Fusion Summon, Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon (ATK: 2800. DF: 2100)," Raiden said.
A large reddish dragon with two mouths appeared.
"That's a Fusion summon," Yume noted, remembering a familiar summoning technique. People still use it?
The crowd went wild at this as Raiden then revealed another card in hand. "Next I equip it with the equip spell, Fighting Spirit. My monster gains 300 attack points for every monster that my opponent controls."
"That we control? So that means...," Beni counted off their monsters and gasped, "900 total attack points added?!"
"Correct," Raiden nodded.
2800 —> 3700 ATK
"Now attack Spellbook Magician of Prophecy! Burning Electrical Flame," Raiden commanded.
5800 —> 4100 LPS
"Turn over," Raiden said before looking at his brother who nodded.
He has a powerful monster on the field, if only Big Sis had Magic Cylinder so that 3700 attack points can hit their life points instead, Beni thought and glanced at his sister who was gripping onto the bow of her uniform. She's nervous, he thought but it was far from the truth.
So this is what a duel is. Been a while since I've been in a duel like this, she thought.
A lot of people were cheering for the twins but there were some who were cheering for them. Funny how that works, Yume thought before hearing her friends' cheering.
"DON'T GIVE UP, YUME AND BENI!" Lily shouted.
"YOU GOT THIS!" Natsuki exclaimed.
"LIKE YOU GOT HAVE A STRATEGY IN PLACE!" Momo yelled.
"...DON'T FALTER!" Tsumugi yelled.
They're cheering for us! They're cheering, even though we'll lose. Is that...what being on the ropes is like and still having others cheering you on? Yume thought. Again, funny how that works.
She then glanced at her brother, who was looking down at the field with a sad expression on his face.
"...I draw," Beni drew a card.
All he did was sigh to himself.
"I activate one of my face downs, Draw of Fate. If our life points are lower than our opponents and our opponents have the monster with highest attack points, then I reveal three cards with different names from my deck. Then I place them in random order on top of my deck," Beni said in a solemn voice.
"Here goes...," he drew three cards.
"Pendulum Storm...Jester Lord...and Trick Box. They will be placed in a random order to the top of my deck. Then I draw a card," Beni sighed.
"Then I'll activate Pendulum Storm which destroys as many cards as we have in our Pendulum Zones which is just me but then this allows me to destroy a spell or trap card that you control so I'll destroy that Axe of Despair," Beni said.
2800 —> 1800 ATK
"Next I set a monster face down in defense position and have Performapal Ladyange attack your Dark Blade," Beni said.
7100 —> 6900 LPS
"Then I end my turn," Beni said suddenly.
"Huh?" Yume asked.
"I ran out of cards to use so that's about it sadly. Couldn't do anything else," Beni admitted.
"I...I guess," Yume looked down before glancing at the face down that Beni had.
There was...something about that card...maybe.
!
"Yume?! Are you ok?" Beni asked as Yume fell to one knee, hand over her left eyes.
"I'm...I'm fine!" She yelped which didn't reassure him.
The twins looked at each other before looking at Yume.
"Can it be my turn now or do you need to lie down?" Akuma asked, sounding bored.
"No I'm fine. Just...go with your turn," Yume waved him off before getting back on her feet.
Her friends looked at each other with worry.
"Do you think she really is ok?" Lily asked and the rest of the girls shrugged.
"My turn, I draw! This duel ends with my turn!" Akuma exclaimed.
"Whoa really?" The golden brown haired girl gasped.
"I play my face down spell,Card Destruction. We all have to discard our entire hand into our graveyard and draw that same amount. I currently have 2 cards in my hand which mean I discard all two and draw two," Akuma exclaimed.
He did just that and grinned at his new hand.
"..." Beni looked at his empty hand and sighed, "I don't have any."
Everyone looked at Raiden and Yume to see what will they do.
"I also have two cards so I'll discard the two of them. I needed that," he explained, doing so.
All eyes then turned to Yume and she gulped as she checked her hand.
"I...I also have two cards," she said and discarded them before drawing two new ones.
"Now I discard Fabled Krus (ATK: 1000. DF: 800) to the graveyard in order to activate her effect. I target a level four Fabled monster in my graveyard and special summon it. Arise! Fabled Grimo! (ATK:1700. DF: 1000)!" Akuma shouted.
A humanoid monster wearing feathery robes and had black feathered wings appeared.
"Then I normal summon the tuner, Fabled Raven! (ATK: 1300. DF: 1000)!" He added on.
Another monster with black wings appeared but it appeared very different from Fabled Grimo.
"Huh? What's a tuner monster?" Yume asked and Beni merely gulped. "Bad news for us," he said.
How bad? she thought.
"I tune Level 2 Fabled Raven with Level 4 Fabled Grimro! A powerful fable! A dark fable! A fiend most unstoppable and will stop at nothing in his path. Stand up, Fabled Andwraith(ATK: 2400. DF: 1900)!" Akuma shouted.
Another humanoid monster with black feathered wings appeared, holding onto a sword with sharp edges and wore a beak like mask.
"Oh...it only has 2400 attack points. That won't take down Athena...although-," Beni started but got interrupted.
"I'm not targeting Athena. In fact, I choose to attack your Ladyange!" Akuma shouted and Beni flinched.
"This...Synchro Summoning. It's very strong and bad news for us," Yume said. "No kidding!" Beni yelped.
"I won't show any mercy! Go! Feathered Slash!" Akuma yelled.
Yume began to panic internally.
What do we do?! We're going to lose if this is kept up! Wait...we're going to lose? I mean I already knew that we were from the beginning so...why am I panicking now? She thought.
Yume looked over at Beni's facedown card and something clicked in her head.
In spite of the pain that she suddenly felt in her left eye, she shouted, "Beni, your facedown!"
"H-huh? Oh I see. Quick Spell! Enemy Controller," Beni said and the card faced up immediately.
"I target an monster on your side and change its position. Fabled Andwraith is now in defense position," he explained.
Fabled Andwraith stopped his attack, went back to Akuma's side of the field before kneeling down, turning blue.
"I see, quick thinking there," Raiden noted.
"Tch! I end my turn," Akuma said.
"Phew, that was a close one," Beni sighed in relief.
"I gu-!" Yume gasped and clutched onto her eye again.
"Are you ok?" Beni asked.
"I'm...fine," Yume whispered.
She then turned away and took the eye contact out quickly.
There was a large crack in the middle.
Oh no. Not again, she thought.
"Oi! Isn't it your turn?" Akuma asked.
Raiden sighed impatiently.
"I'm aware...," Yume said before turning back at the field.
Raiden rose an eyebrow.
She has two different colored eyes? I could have swore that she had the same eye color? Was that a colored eye contact? He thought, curiously.
"My turn. I draw!" Yume exclaimed, feeling a rush of adrenaline at this.
She looked at the card that she drew and her eyes widen.
It's you again. You and your friend helped me out last time, Yume thought.
That means...yeah that's this!
"I summon Sunlight Wizard (ATK: 1200. DF: 500) then I pay up half our life points to special summon Assassin Wizard (ATK: 1200. DF: 500)!" Yume started.
"What? Half your life points? Are you being serious? Who does that unless there's an effect that you absolutely want," Raiden said.
"What is she planning?" Akuma snapped.
".....Yume...," Beni looked over at his sister.
4100 —> 2050 LPS
For some reason, this felt...right to her. Summoning this monster told her that it's ok for today. Defeat them in this duel.
"Two souls intertwined to create the ultimate combination of effects and monster. With this, I create...a new path for this monster...," Yume then posed as she held up a card.
"I Soul Summon! Arise, Green Eyes Ivory Dragon(ATK: 2700. DF: 2500.)!" She shouted.
"Green Eyes?"
"Ivory Dragon?"
The twins asked, one at a time.
"Whoa?! Soul Summon! Is that a new summoning technique because I never heard of such a technique!" The golden brown haired girl cried.
Green Eyes roared as he flapped out his wings.
"I activate Sunlight Wizard's soul effect!" Yume shouted.
"A soul effect?" Raiden asked, confused.
"If we have less life points than our opponents and I have a spell card in my hand, I can recover our life points depending on the summoned monster's attack points. Green Eyes has 2700 attack points meaning that's what we recover," Yume explained.
2050 —> 4750 LPS
"Wait, so you have a spell card in your hand? That's what's able to make that soul effect, what it is, work!" Akuma exclaimed.
Yume held up a card.
"You guessed right. This spell card is Prayer of the Village. You'll see what it does after I activate Assassin Wizard's soul ability. I discard a monster from my hand to graveyard and inflict its attack points onto your attack points and use its defense points to increase Green Eye's defense points. And that monster is...," Yume held up another card.
"Fairy Dragon (ATK: 1100. DF: 1200)!"
"That much?" Raiden asked.
6900 —> 5800 LPS
2500 —> 3700 DF
"Then I use the Spell Card, Prayer of the Village. When the opponent has at least one monster that has bigger attack points than my monster, and my monster is a Dragon, then Prayer of the Village increases his attack points by 500 until the end of the turn!" Yume exclaimed before adding on, "But not without a cost. We lose 500 life points as well."
4750 —> 4250 LPS
2700 —> 3200 ATK
"Now Green Eyes is the strongest monster here!" Beni cheered.
"I also activate my face down. Gust Fan. I equip this to Green Eyes making his attack points go up by 400 but he loses 200 defense points," Yume said.
3200 —> 3600 ATK
3700 —> 3600 DF
"Now I attack Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon! Windy Burst of Destruction!" Yume shouted and her monster charged up an attack and fired it at Raiden's monster which destroyed it.
5800 —> 5000 LPS
"Now I switch Athena to defense position and end my turn. Now it's over to you," Yume said
3600 —> 3100 ATK
The whole crowd woah'd at this.
"I'll admit that you were able to take down my fusion monster like that and you even took us by surprise by using a summoning technique that no one has seen before. The fact that the duel disks allow it means that it's legal. You're an interesting one and for that, I'll leave a parting gift," Raiden said as he drew a card.
"Parting gift?" Yume asked.
"I activate the spell, Thunder Dragon Return. I can activate this when I have a Thunder monster that was summoned from my Extra deck that's in my graveyard. I can special summon it onto the field but it's banished when it leaves the field. Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon returns," Raiden stated.
"No way! You just destroyed that monster," Beni yelped but Raiden wasn't done. "Next up, I can special summon a Thunder monster with a lower level than the monster that was summoned using Thunder Dragon Return from my deck. So I'll choose the tuner Thunder Dragon Hikari (ATK: 400. DF: 300)," he added.
"Another tuner? Does this mean he'll Synchro Summon as well?" Yume asked and the crowd went wild.
"Fusion Synchro! Fusion Synchro!" They chanted. "Wow, are we finally going to see the fated Fusion Synchro that Raiden is famous for?" The golden brown haired girl asked.
"Oh no!" Beni cried and Yume just looked confused. "He's famous for that?"
Heh, she probably doesn't keep up with current tournaments. Anyone who knows about the dueli on ng world would know about our famous Fusion Synchro and Synchro Fusion combo, Akuma thought with a grin.
"I tune level 1 Thunder Dragon Hikari with level 7 Twin-Headed Dragon! Light overwhelms the world so blind them with your presence. Synchro Summon! Descend from the heavens, Thunder DragonLight Bringer (ATK: 3200. DF: 3000)," Raiden stated.
A large white dragon with yellow feathered wings, sharp golden claws and beady yellow eyes descended from the clouds and landed in front of Raiden and Akuma.
"This dragon seems more powerful than the other one," Yume noted. Green Eyes seemed to size Thunder DragonLight Bringer up and huffed.
"Alright, now I can activate Thunder DragonLight Bringer's effect. Once per turn, by paying 1000 life points, I can have you draw three cards and reveal them and for every monster card that you drew, all monsters that you control will lose 100 attack points until the end of the turn. You also can't activate those cards until your Battle phase," Raiden explained.
5000 —> 4000 LPS
He's willing to risk that much just so my monsters can lose attack points? Yume thought as she drew three cards.
She looked at them, inhaled sharply before showing them. "I see, so two of them were monster cards so that means all of your monsters lose 200 attack points," Akuma noted.
"Including mine?" Beni asked and Akuma rolled his eyes at this. "Of course since you share a field!" He told him.
3100 —> 2900 ATK
2600 —> 2400 ATK
2000 —> 1800 ATK
"Now both of their monsters are strong enough to defeat ours," Beni said and Raiden nodded.
"But I can do one more thing by activating the Quick-Play Spell, Thunder DragonMatch. For every banished monster that I have, I can destroy a monster on my opponent's field and I choose Athena since I have one banished monster," he added and Athena disappeared.
"So we only have two monsters on the field!" Beni cried. Green Eyes just glanced at Yume before looking back at Raiden's dragon.
"Battle! Destroy Green Eyes, Thunder DragonLight Bringer. Thunder from the Heavenly Realm!" Raiden shouted and clouds began to form up around his monster before electricity came out of it and was shot towards Green Eyes.
"No! Not Green Eyes!" Beni cried as they lost life points.
4250 —> 3950 LPS
"We just barely have less life points than you," Yume said and Raiden added, "and that's not all. When Thunder DragonLight Bringer destroys a monster in battle, it can attack again so I'll destroy Performapal Ladyange. Blinding Shine of Destruction!"
An electric ball was formed in Thunder DragonLight Bringer and shot it at Beni's monster.
3950 —> 2550 LPS
"Well would you look at that? Now they have even less life points than the twins. Will they win or lose?" The golden brown haired girl said.
"Raiden, since your monster can attack again once it destroys a monster, I recommend doing a direct attack," Akuma told him.
"Alright. Direct attack, finish this," Raiden commanded and his monster charged up an attack. Beni averted his eyes as the attack was shot at them.

"Coo."
"Huh?" Beni looked back to see a small, brown, furry creature with pink fairy wings and pink antennas floating in front of them, shielding them from the attack.
"When we are targeted for a direct attack, I can special summon Kurifae (ATK: 200. DF: 300) from my deck. Not only is it not destroyed in battle this way but any battle damage we would have taken gets reduced to zero," Yume explained.
"Damn it! This is why I hate the Kuriboh archetype and any new Kuriboh clones," Akuma hissed and Raiden tilted his head at this.
"What a powerful effect. It saved you from losing the duel," Raiden said. "It definitely did," Yume nodded.
"There's nothing else I can do so turn over," Raiden said. I wonder what else you can come up with? He thought with a growing interest in his classmate.
"I guess it's my turn," Beni said as he drew a card. Damn it! This card won't help me at all, it could have helped me earlier but now it's a brick, he thought as the card he drew was Trick Box.
"...I set this card down and end my turn," he said.
"Is that everything? A shame really? Now it's my turn and I'll finish the job that Raiden couldn't," Akuma said with a smirk. He drew a card, looked at it before looking at his field.
"I switch Fabled Andwraith back to attack position and now I'll have it attack Kurifae. Feathered Slash!" Akuma shouted and his monster sliced Kurifae, destroying it.
2550 —> 350 LPS
"When Kurifae leaves the field, I can add a spell card from my deck to my hand," Yume said. "Well that spell card isn't going to do anything for you. I have nothing else to do for now so I end my turn," Akuma said, feeling extremely confident.
"I had a feeling you would say something like that," Yume sighed. "What was that?" Akuma said but Raiden just shook his head at him.
Yume drew a card and examined the cards in her hand. Maybe, just maybe...I can pull this off, she thought as she took the card that she got from Kurifae's effect.
"I use the spell card that I got from Kurifae, Monster Reborn to bring back a monster from my graveyard. Come back to us, Green Eyes Ivory Dragon," she declared and her monster appeared back on the field.
"Next I summon Parlor Dragonmaid (ATK: 500. DF: 1700)," she said and a humanoid wearing a maid outfit appeared, her green dragon tail slightly swaying around.
"When she's normal or special summoned, I can send a Dragonmaid card from my deck to my graveyard other than Parlor Dragonmaid," she said.
Why would she discard a card that could potentially be useful for her? Raiden thought, curiously.
"Next I'll set up the field spell, Friendly Breeze. All Wind monsters will gain 700 attack points and if they attack and destroy a monster, they can make a second attack but once they do, they're destroyed at the end phase," Yume said.
A small breeze came by and flew over her monsters.
2700 —> 3400 ATK
500 —> 1200 ATK
"Well we really don't need to worry that much since Green Eyes is the only monster that currently has attack points that can take down our monsters," Akuma assured them but Raiden said, "I don't think she would do that. Yume Hibiki is a wild card so we may not know what she's planning."
A wild card? He's making no sense if my brother is calling a novice opponent like her a wild card, Akuma thought.
"Battle! Parlor Dragonmaid, attack Fabled Andwraith!" Yume declared, shocking everyone.
"What? Are you planning on destroying yourself?" Akuma gasped. "Wrong because at the start of the Battle phase, I can return this card to my hand and special summon a level 8 Dragonmaid monster from my hand or graveyard and I'm choosing Dragonmaid Lorpar (ATK: 2700. DF: 1700)," Yume said.
Her monster began to change into a more dragon shape and a green dragon with yellow-green hairs took the place of Parlor Dragonmaid.
2700 —> 3400 ATK
"Attack Fabled Andwraith with Lemon Breeze Server!" Yume shouted and her monster charged up an attack and shot it at Akuma's monster.
4000 —> 3000 LPS
"Now Green Eyes, attack Thunder DragonLight Bringer with Windy Swirly Breath!" Yume commanded and her Ace did the same thing.
3000 —> 2800 LPS
"Now finish them, my dragons. Direct attack," Yume declared.
"What?!" Raiden cried out, his voice raising for the first time in this duel.
2800 —> 0 LPS
Winners: Yume/Beni Hibiki
"We won....WE WON!" Beni cheered happily.
"Whoa! Would you look at that? The Kaede twins lost to the Hibiki Siblings! We have new Opening Champions! First year, Benjiro Hibiki and third year, Yume Hibiki!" The golden brown haired girl cheered.
The crowd went wild. Well a huge majority did.
Some stared at the two with scorn in their eyes in which Yume noticed and her shoulders went down.
What am I doing? Is this a victory well deserved? She thought.
"But how! How could we have lost?" Akuma cried.
"Give it up. We lost and that's that. No matter how painful it is," Raiden said.
He hated losing but he must accept it.
