It was a bright sunny day on Duel Academy Island. It was really a nice day, bright sunshine, a nice breeze, and peace and quie-

BOOOM!

"AAAUUGH!!!"

Well, almost quiet...

Yuna, who was in front of the Slifer Dorms, heard the commotion and opened the door to the dorm room by kicking it open.

"Is everything okay?!" she has asked in a flurry of panic.

What she saw made her deadpan.

The dorm room was covered in weird beige mess which splattered all over the place, even the door. The burner in the corner was turned on and a can of spray paint rolled by her feet, empty and bent.

Yuna then turned to the three boys who were also covered in the paint. One smiled nervously, another looked like he was about to cry, and the third looked hungry.

"Jay, what in the name of Ra, happened here?" came Yuna's deadpanned question.

"Uh...learning...???" came Jaden's wavering answer.

Just when Yuna was about to give the poor boy a lecture, Professor Banner walked up behind her.

"Oh my my, what a commotion!" came his calm reply.

"Uh, sorry Professor, we didn't mean it...." Syrus muttered.

"Now you children go get cleaned up," said Professor Banner, "but after that, you have to clean up your mess."

"Yes Professor..." grumbled the Slifer Trio.

-Time Skip-

Soon after the boys' punishment, the four friends hung around by the island's cliffside, deciding to take this day off as a chill day.

That is until Syrus asked a good question.

"Hey Yuna, where did you get all those Synchro and Tuner cards anyway?"

Yuna looked at the teal-haired boy as Jaden and Chumley also perked up at the question.

"Oh yeah, you never did have those cards before when we were kids..." said Jaden, remembering their childhood days.

"Well...Mr. Pegasus gave them to me after winning an Industrial Illusions tournament before I came here." Yuna explained. "He said that they were "calling out" to me, or something among those line..."

"But how come they're different?" asked Chumely.

With that Yuna replied, "Well Chum, Pegasus told me that these were the prototypes for the new kind of summoning he's been trying to perfect. He's hoping to expand the summoning techniques of Duel Monsters. So my Tuners and Synchros are really the first cards involving around Synchro Summoning right now."

"Wow! That's so cool!!!" the trio beside her said in awe.

"Oh please, it's not that big of a deal. I mean, sooner or later, every one is gonna start doing Synchro summons." Yuna said bashfully.

"Aw, don't be embarrassed Yun, you rock those synchro monsters like crazy! Just like how you rocked the exam yesterday. With Dark Magician and Effect Veiler." Jaden said, nudging her with his elbow.

"Says the one who almost gave me a heart attack with that Winged Kuriboh LV 10." she jabbed back, pulling his cheek.

"You guys are really close huh..." Chumley said as he and Syrus watched the two banter.

"Yeah, he's been in my life since we were five. Gramps just got out of the hospital when I met him." Yuna replied.

"So what's next? Card Games on Motorcycles?" asked Jaden. "That'd be too cool!"

"That's a bit much Jay....I mean all the accidents that can happen when you can't look in front of you." rebuked Syrus.

"Well hopefully if someone actually did do Card Games on Motorcycles, they have safety measurements." said Yuna. "Like Sy said, you can get into accident if you don't look in front of you."

"Oh fine!" pouted Jaden.

*groooooowl*

The three of them jumped slightly at the rumble and looked to Chumley, who was holding his stomach.

"I don't know about you guys, but I can really use a grilled cheese." said the hungry man. "I'm gonna head back to the dorms."

That being said, Chumley got up and started to make his way back to the Slifer Dorms.

"Wait for me! I'll come with you." said Syrus, running after him.

Both Jaden and Yuna laughed at their antics as they were left behind on the cliffside.

After a bit, Jaden broke the silence.

"Just like old times, huh Yun." said Jaden, taking in the fresh Island air.

"You said it Jay." Yuna replied.

"Remember the time Wroughtweiler stole the baseball and he hid it in a tree." laughed Jaden reminiscing past memories.

"Oh yeah, Burstinatrix and Chaos Command Magician had to help us down cause we were too scared to climb down." chuckled Yuna.

"Hey that gives me an idea!" exclaimed Jaden. "Let's have a Scary Storytelling Night!"

"J-JAY! YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT SCARY STORIES!" cried Yuna.

"It was just Avian, Yun! And it was Halloween!" Jaden whined, getting up to exaggerate his claim.

"Oh really!" she retorted. "You're the one that got scared by Kuriboh and I!"

"You were hiding under a trench coat and he was acting as your head!"

"You were still scared!" she pointed out, getting up.

"Oh yeah! How about the time you and Kuriboh were hiding in the closet because of Sparkman and I."

"That was because you had him "shut off" all the lights and had us pretend you were kidnapped by a ghost!"

The two friends continued to banter about their childhood days as their duel spirits watched them walk back to the dorms.

Not knowing on that night, the shadows were rising.

A/N: Hey guys, I know this chapter isn't as exciting, but at least you guys know a little bit of how Jaden and Yuna's childhood days were kind of like.

As you may have noticed, this chapter explains how Yuna has the Tuners and Synchro monsters in her deck and what Pegasus intends to do. With a little reference to a future story here and there.

Up next is the Abandoned Dorm episodes!
