Chapter 3
The tournament was just one week away and Kari was excited as she made sure everything she needed was packed. Kari let out a small sigh and looked at her check list.
"Cloths, check. Deck and cards, check. Money, check. Shower stuff, check... Hmmm other things like phone and books, check. Oh... This thing." Kari thought then picked up a note book "I'll pack this just in case. Probably won't need it though..." Kari packed the black leather note book and smiled at a job well done.
"Kari! Your friends are here to see you!" Kitearo called and Kari rushed to the living room and smiled. "They came to tell you about this tournament thing. Since this is your first one." Kitearo blinked then waked away to the kitchen. "I'll be elsewhere."
"Kay, thanks Kite." Kari smiled and Kitearo shrugged. Kari sat down and looked at her friends. "So, what's with this tournament?" She asked with a tilt of her head. Yugi blinked and then began to explain.
"Well, we leave tomorrow by boat then we stay on that and train and stuff until we arrive on an island. We then have appointed rooms and cabins and stuff that are kind of like safe zones. The next day the tournament starts, each day the rules are different and we are there on the island for a few weeks. So yeah, we also have qualifying rounds to get past as well." Yugi explained as best as he could. Kari nodded.
"Gotcha..." She replied with a nod and everyone went out for one last training round then to just hang out.
----- Next day, afternoon -----
"Bye Kari!" Boom said as Kari put on her silver knap sack and went out the door holding her blue pillow and sleeping bag that looked like her shirt. Kari smiled at Boom and giggled.
"See ya Kari." Beats waved and Kitearo smirked.
"Oh don't do it...." Kari thought with a small glare. "Oh don't do it!"
"Bye tiny!" Kitearo snickered as he waved, using Kari's childhood nickname.
"Oh my god!" Kari thought. "BRUH!!!" Kari yelled in annoyance and the three boys went into a laughing fit. "Seriously! It's bad enough that the shortest guy I know is taller than me!" Kari growled and the boys began to calm down and Kari sighed then left, going to the park to meet everyone, her face red with embarrassment and anger.
"Mornin Kat." Joey greeted first upon seeing Kari.
"Hey kiddo, what happened? Your face's all red." Tristan blinked, a little confused. Kari sighed and looked away, pulling up her hoodie.
"Nooooottthhhiiinn....." She replied and Tea squeaked and grabbed Kari.
"You're too cute Kari!" She called, holding Kari close as the small girl began to struggle.
"T-TEA!!!" Kari grumbled and eventually got free of Tea's grip and looked around. "Where are Atem and Yugi?" She asked and Joey shrugged along with everyone else. "And how are we getting to th train station?"
"Oh, Mai Valentine'll be driving us." Tea smiled and Kari went wide eyed in slight fear. "What?"
"I don't think Kari's a people-person, remember how she acted when she first arrived?" Tristin said and Tea gasped, feeling a little bad. Soon Yugi and Atem walked up and waved.
"We're here." Yugi smiled and high fived Kari, who was still shaken. "Ok, who told her?" He asked and everyone pointed to Tea. "Well, at least she knows now." Yugi sighed. The sound of an engine soon caught everyone's attention, then another.
"Hey gang!" Called a blond woman with a smile.
"Sup guys." Called a boy with black spikey hair. Kari about had a heart attack as she went stiff.
"Uh, Kari? Hello??" Atem asked with a blink, trying to snap Kari out of her episode. Kari blinked and whimpered.
"That Kari? Tea was right! You ARE cute as hell!" Mai soon grabbed Kari and held her close, Kari suffocating in her breasts and flailing to get free. Duke rolled his eyes at the scene.
"Hey guys. What's up? Mai asked me to help out since her car was too small." Duke shrugged with a nervous chuckle and everyone nodded. Kari soon got free and hid behind a tree, shivering.
"Aw! She's shy." Mia cooed and everyone sighed.
"Kari, it's ok. This is Mai Valentine and Duke Devlin." Yugi smiled and calmed Kari down. The girl blinked and slowly came out from behind the tree. "Kari, just a heads up, you'll be meeting a lot of new people because of us." Yugi warned and Kari gulped then nodded.
"R-right..." Kari replied and everyone was off. Mai and Duke decided to come along on the train since Mai was joining the tournament while Duke was unsure. They rode the train and began to come up with strategies together. The group of eight soon arrived at the docks and boarded a cruise ship with a Kaiba corp logo. Kari shared a room with Mai and Tea while the guys shared the same room on the other side of the ship.
"Hey, Kari, pass me my brush please." Mai asked and pointed to her bush on the dresser next to Kari. The girl looked at it and grabbed the violet brush and handed it to Mai. "Thanks doll."
"Welcome." Kari smile and then they were ready to get some food then call it a night.
When the three woke up they trained with each other, Kari beating the snot out of Mai with only five hundred life points remaining. Mai was shocked and Tea cheered happily, hugging Kari with a big smile. They soon met up with the boys and hung out for a while before getting something to eat. They then checked their decks and extra cards and began to tweak their decks with each other as well as making trades with each other then getting lunch, hanging out for a while before a group training session, dinner then bed. This continued until they arrived on the island where the tournament was to be held. Kari went wide eyed and gasped at how big it was. The island had many trees with a big building in the middle that looked like a radio station but yet it was different. This was the main room where the rules for each day were to be announced. There were jumbo-trons on the tower part so everyone could see from any part of the island and a big star at the tip top of the tower that looked like a room, because of the windows, if you looked close enough. Everyone soon left the ship and looked around.
"Hello duelists!" A voice called and everyone's head turned towards the big building, looking at the jumbo-tron that was facing the docks. There was a man with hair similar to Tristan's hair, sun glasses and a body guards suit. "Welcome to the Duel Monsters All Star Tournament!" He called and everyone cheered, even Kari. "Duelists young and old, new and experienced have come here today to see who is the best of the best." Everyone gave competitive glances to one another. "Today will be the qualifying rounds as well as class placement." Everyone tilted their heads, slightly confused. "Your class determines where you stand in the pecking order." A pyramid diagram appeared with words in it, similar to the food pyramid. "First off are the newbies, then we have the rookies, the experienced, the experts, pros and finally veterans. But when it comes down to the last few days, class will not matter." The man's face then came back onto the screen. "You were each given a map of the island when you got on the ship, please come to the main hall and enter to find out who is against who for the qualification rounds. Good luck." With that said the jumbo-tron went off and everyone walked towards the main hall and went in to see a stadium like setup with a teen on the stage. Seto Kaiba.
"Now that everyone is here," He started. "Here are the rules for the qualification rounds. There are one on one rounds that are timed for about ten minutes each. If both duelists are in the game after time's up then the one with the most life points wins." Kaiba said simply. "Now.. Let the All Star Tournament..." Kaiba put his right arm in the air as if to snap his fingers as he looked down with closed eyes. Everyone sat on the edge of their seats. "BEGIN!!!" Seto snapped his fingers as he looked up with a smirk and opened eyes and everyone cheered as a leader board appeared. Kari was against some kid she did not know named Lewis. She won without losing a single life point and under one minute. Kaiba blinked as he watched her win with flying colors. He wrote her down as "Veteran" and went on, not knowing she was still new to the game. Eventually everyone had finished their duels and were given a class. Joey was experienced while Atem got veteran and Yugi was pro and Mai was an expert. Duke, Tristan and Tea decided not to join but were allowed to stay and watch. The group then went off to their dorms, which were nearby but still separate. Kari stretched and then got comfortable and yawned.
"Tired?" Mai asked while peeking up to the top bunk Kari was on. The girl nodded and smiled lightly. "Well the you should get some sleep dear." Mai chuckled and Kai rolled her eyes.
"No duh." Kari giggled and got dressed in her pajamas and curled up then went to sleep, thinking about the next day.
