Duel League Genesis: Reopening of Old Wounds (Pat v. Mahad?)

The opening shot shows the crowd in the arena as Kaiba is seen at the middle of the duel field with microphone in hand.

Kaiba: Welcome everyone to the post inaugural event of the Duel League. Welome to Duel League Genesis! And we are in for a great night of duels along with the start of the tourney for our inaugural Duel League Tag Force Champions and an exciting Duel League Championship title defense. For now, I return to the commentary table and let the duels begin!

The crowd roars as Seto re-emerges from the Commentary area.

Jack: What a great set of words from you Seto.

Joey: This will be quite an amazing

Kaiba: We got a stacked card but a reminder of the rankings because after this match, it will update for every win and loss gained.

Jack: We only have 4 duelists left without any losses, 3 without any wins. But we have quite the number of evens in the win-loss columns. One of them being our opener.

Joey: That is right but our champion now sits at 6th with Duke being on top at 1st

Kaiba: But right now we have to get the show started with our opening bout. This is going to be Pat v. Mahad.

Jack: Two duelists whose fates have intertwined but thanks to the intervention of Vade, we don't know if this will be the same Mahad we've seen or an entirely new individual.

Announcer: Genesis begins with this opening ranked duel!

https://youtu.be/2VP_4DVWUIk

Announcer: First, Pat! (Rank 13, Record; 2-2)

Joey: We've seen the deck of Pat so far and he's got good monsters, but as of late, is unable to get off a 2 loss streak.

Jack: Of those 2 losses, one was dominant at the hands of the Number One Contender, Duke. The other was a valiant effort gone short but at the hands of the Duel League Champion, Irvine.

Kaiba: We've seen the Divine Serpent, Wave Motion Cannon and any other means he can use to beat back the opponent. Now we shall see if he will still earn a victory to get off that slump.

Announcer: And his opp....

Vade comes out all hooded with a microphone in hand as he begins to point menacingly at Pat.

Vade: Heathen, you will feel the wrath of the Gods for the injustice you've caused and the pride you wear at the expense of others. You may know your foe before as a Dark Magician user but now, he wields the Pharoah's more powerful servant. A servant that is one of the Gods! Now I present to you..... Crimson! (Rank 22; 0-4)

https://youtu.be/QvoFh7lF3SA

Crimson comes out in a red robe with the same shade as his rechristened name. He walks all armed in red as he removes the robe, revealing his all crimson armor with the duel disk in arm.

Joey: Oh man...this is bad

Kaiba: Things have turned interesting

Jack: Vade has brought in another to his side. This time, the former Dark Magician user but based on what he said....

Kaiba: Sliffer... that will be key to victory for Crimson

Announcer: Let the duel begin!

Turn 1 (Pat 8000/ Crimson 8000)
Pat's Main Phase 1

Pat: I activate a Spell Card, Pot of Greed. It lets me draw 2 cards.

Pat draws 2 cards.

Pat: I set 2 cards to end my turn

Kaiba: Bad hand like with Irvine

Turn 2 (Pat 8000/ Crimson 8000)
Crimson's Draw Phase and Main Phase 1

Crimson: I summon Ahrima, The Wicked Dark Warden (DARK/4*/Fined/Effect/ATK1700/DEF0).

Crimson's Battle Phase
Crimson: I attack directly with Ahrima, the Wicked Dark Warden (1700LP Damage to Pat)

Pat 6300/ Crimson 8000

Crimson: I end my turn

Kaiba: Quite the start from Crimson!

Jack: The question is, can he keep this up for long?

Joey: Knowing these god users, they're waiting for the God to fall into their hand to deal the final blow

Turn 3 (Pat 6300/ Crimson 8000)
Pat's Draw Phase then Main Phase 1

Pat: I activate a Spell Card, Fissure! I destroy a monster on your side of the field with the weakest ATK. Since Ahrima's your only monster, it gets destroyed.

Ahrima, the Wicked Dark Warden is destroyed.

Pat: I end my turn

Kaiba: Still can't summon any monster

Turn 4 (Pat 6300/ Crimson 8000)
Crimson's Draw Phase and Main Phase 1

Crimson: I set a monster to end my turn

Turn 5 (Pat 6300/ Crimson 8000)
Pat's Draw Phase then Main Phase 1

Pat: I activate a Spell Card, Change of Heart. I take control of your set monster

Cimson's set monster is switched to Pat's field

Pat: I activate a Quick Play Spell Card, Reload. I add to my hand to my deck and shuffle it then draw the same number of cards I added to my deck. So 3 cards from my hand goes back to my deck and I shuffle

Pat's hand returns to the deck and he shuffles to draw 3 cards.

Pat: I flip summon, Marshmallon (LIGHT/3*/Fairy/Effect/ATK300/DEF500)

Joey: Sniffed out that trick from him!

Kaiba: It makes sense. He was the one who made the Marshmallon wall a tactic.

Pat: I set a card and activate a Continuous Spell Card, Wave Motion Cannon! For every Standby Phase of mine that passes by, this card gains 1 counter. I can send this card to the Graveyard during my Main Phase and you will receive 1000 LP damage times the number of counters on this card.

Jack: Wow!

Pat: I also activate another Continuous Spell Card, Burden of the Mighty. Each face-up monster my opponent controls loses 100 ATK times its own Level.

Joey: He's got no hand cards left!

Battle Phase
Pat: Marshmallon, direct attack! (300LP Damage to Crimson)

Pat's Main Phase 2
Pat: I end my turn. Marshmallon returns to you

Marshmallon returns to Crimson's side of the field.

Due to Burden of the Mighty
Marshmallon ATK (300 -> 0)

Turn 6 (Pat 6300/ Crimson 7700)
Crimson's Draw Phase and Main Phase 1

Crimson: I set a monster in facedown defense and switch Marshmallon to defense position. I also activate a Continuous Spell Card, Marshmallon Glasses. So long as this card is on the field along with a faceup Marshmallon, you can only select Marshmallon as an attack target. I end my turn

Turn 7(Pat 6300/ Crimson 7700)
Pat's Draw Phase then Standby Phase

Pat: Standby Phase, Wave Motion Cannon gains 1 counter.

Wave Motion Cannon - 1

Pat's Main Phase 1
Pat: I end my turn

Kaiba: What a duel we are witnessing. As one bides to get in Sliffer, the other is biding time to ensure Wave Motion Cannon takes down the opposition

Turn 8 (Pat 6300/ Crimson 7700)
Crimson's Draw Phase and Main Phase 1
Crimson: I set another monster to end my turn

Turn 9(Pat 6300/ Crimson 7700)
Pat's Draw Phase then Standby Phase
Pat: Standby Phase, Wave Motion Cannon gains 1 counter.

Wave Motion Cannon - 2

Pat's Main Phase 1
Pat: I end my turn

Kaiba: Both duelists are biding their time but will take one false move. One misplay to turn the tide

Turn 10 (Pat 6300/ Crimson 7700)
Crimson's Draw Phase and Main Phase 1

Crimson: I set another monster to end my turn

Turn 11(Pat 6300/ Crimson 7700)
Pat's Draw Phase then Standby Phase
Pat: Standby Phase, Wave Motion Cannon gains 1 counter.

Wave Motion Cannon - 3

Pat's Main Phase 1

Pat: Standby Phase, Wave Motion Cannon gains 1 counter.

Wave Motion Cannon - 4

Pat's Main Phase 1
Pat: I end my turn

Turn 14 (Pat 6300/ Crimson 7700)
Crimson's Draw Phase and Main Phase 1

Crimson: I summon Spell Striker (EARTH/3*/Warrior/Effect/ATK600/DEF200).

Pat: Burden of the Mighty takes effect

Burden of the Mighty ATK
Marshmallon (300 -> 0)
Spell Striker (600 -> 300)

Battle Phase
Crimson: I attack with Spell Striker (300LP Damage to Pat)

Pat 6000/ Crimson 7700

Crimson: I move to end my turn

Kaiba: Now the tides have shifted. He has enough tributes for a God or any other high leveled monsters.

Joey: But so far, Pat only needs 4 more standby phases to get that win

Turn 15(Pat 6000/ Crimson 7700)
Pat's Draw Phase then Standby Phase
Pat: Standby Phase, Wave Motion Cannon gains 1 counter.

Wave Motion Cannon - 5

Pat's Main Phase 1
Pat: I end my turn

Turn 16 (Pat 6000/ Crimson 7700)
Crimson's Draw Phase and Main Phase 1

Crimson: I move to Battle Phase

Battle Phase
Crimson: I attack with Spell Striker (300LP Damage to Pat)

Pat 5700/ Crimson 7700

Crimson: I end my turn

Turn 17(Pat 5700/ Crimson 7700)
Pat's Draw Phase then Standby Phase
Pat: Standby Phase, Wave Motion Cannon gains 1 counter.

Wave Motion Cannon - 6

Pat's Main Phase 1
Pat: I activate an Equip Spell Card, Ekibyo Drakmord! I equip this to your Spell Striker and it cannot attack. It will be destroyed by then of my 2nd turn after this card is activated and will be returned to my hand. If you can bring out your god card by then, by all means.

Turn 18 (Pat 5700/ Crimson 7700)
Crimson's Draw Phase and Main Phase 1

Crimson: I won't allow that. I saccrifice Spell Striker and my set Giant Soldier of Stone (EARTH/3*/Rock/ATK1300/DEF2000) to Tribute Summon Lord Gaia the Fierce Knight (EARTH/7*/Warrior/Effect/ATK2300/DEF2100).

Ekibyo Drakmord is destroyed

Pat: Burden of the Mighty takes effect, Lord Gaia gets nerfed!

Burden of the Mighty ATK
Marshmallon (300 -> 0)
Lord Gaia the Fierce Knight (2300 -> 1600)

Battle Phase
Crimson: I attack directly with Lord Gaia the Fierce Knight (1600 LP Damage to Pat)

Pat 4100/ Crimson 7700

Turn 19(Pat 4100/ Crimson 7700)
Pat's Draw Phase then Standby Phase
Pat: Standby Phase, Wave Motion Cannon gains 1 counter.

Wave Motion Cannon - 7

Pat's Main Phase 1
Pat: I let you get one over me because this turn you can brag to say you're letting a God here. I see no God, you've failed it and just as whatever you are with that embitterness and revenge, you won't amount to anything. I summon Dark Blade (DARK/4*/Warrior/ATK1800/DEF1500)...

Crimson: I activate a Trap Card, Trap Hole! Dark Blade is destroyed upon summon

Dark Blade is destroyed

Joey: He can't even attack Lord Gaia if he could!

Kaiba: Misplay

Crimson: Well what do you know, the student has one up over the teacher.

Pat: *smug* perception can be two ways. You assume I fell into your trap, but you assumed wrong. I let this all happen. I activate a Quick Play Spell Card, Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Marshmallon Glasses.

Marshmallon Glasses is destroyed

Joey: He can target Lord Gaia now!

Pat: I can spare you another turn. But the thing is, it ends now. I activate an Equip Spell Card, Premature Burial. I pay 800LP to get a monster back from the Graveyard. I return to my field Dark Blade (DARK/4*/Warrior/ATK1800/DEF1500). I activate as well another Equip Spell Card, Big Bang Shot and equip it to Dark Blade

Dark Blade ATK (1800 -> 2200)

Battle Phase
Pat: Dark Blade (ATK2200) attack Crimson's faceup Marshmallon (DEF500).

Crimson: You sure know your way around Marshmallon wall

Pat: As the one who used to use such strategy, I know its weakness. Marshmallon may not be destroyed by battle but you need to remember the effect of Big Bang Shot. Piercing Damage still happens (1700 LP Damage to Crimson)

Pat 4100/ Crimson 6000

Pat's Main Phase 2
Pat: Valiant effort but the God still needs to come out and you failed miserably. I activate Wave Motion Cannon's effect. I deal 7000 Effect Damage to you! (7000 LP Damage to Crimson)

Pat 4100/ Crimson 0

Announcer: The winner, Pat!

Crimson faced disappointment as he walked away, not speaking to Vade. Pat however looked triumphant but did not exude much of a victor's stride on the way back.

Kaiba: Well Crimson's still got some work to do to perfect the tool given to him. But we can't ignore that the pace was once again dictated by Pat.

Jack: Even as his old Marshmallon wall strategy is in use by Crimson, it didn't work against Big Bang Shot and the Wave Motion Cannon

Joey: He broke the wall that he himself created back then.

Kaiba: What an opener, we will be right back for our next duel.
