Duel League Episode 3 Banishers Duel (Vaan v. Wallace)

Kaiba: Welcome back to the Duel League and what a dominant way to start the show. We saw Magnus use his recently gained Dark Magician to defeat the so-called master of the Dark Magician, Mahad.

Joey: So much for his trash talking on commentary

Jack: But right now, we must keep the duel moving. We go to another Rank duel between Vaan and Wallace.

Joey: Oh right, this will be Vaan's debut since the tournament but he didn't go so far after losing to Odin in the 2nd half of the First round.

Jack: We have on the other side, Wallace, who fought for that chance but was eliminated early by Fenix. But we saw Wallace's determination when he cut down Mahad last week in that impromptu duel.

Kaiba: Well, let's see these two duel then!

Announcer: The following is a rank duel! First, Vaan!

Kaiba: This one proved to be dominant when able. Just happened that his hand worked against him is all

Jack: If lucky, he can win. We didn't see much of his deck from the 1st half of the 1st round but maybe this will be the time.

Kaiba: Here comes one of the duelists who was the highlight reel of the tournament.

Joey: We can't forget his epic clash against Fenix even if it was a strong effort that did not give him a win.

Jack: This one may be a redemption for Wallace. We shall see.

Announcer: Let the duel begin!

Turn 1 (Vaan 8000/ Wallace 8000)
Vaan draws a card

Vaan: I set a monster and end my turn

Turn 2 (Vaan 8000/ Wallace 8000)
Wallace draws a card

Wallace: I set 2 cards and activate a Spell Card, Reinforcement of the Army to add 1 Level 4 (4*) or lower Warrior monster from my Deck to my hand. I select, Kagemucha Knight (3*/Warrior) to my hand.

Kaiba: This all looks familiar to his duel with Mahad last time.

Wallace: I summon The Phantom Knights of Ragged Gloves (DARK/3*/Warrior/ATK1000/DEF500). And by its effect since I Normal Summoned a Level 3 Monster, I special summon from the hand Kagemucha Knight in attack position (DARK/3*/Warrior/ATK0/DEF0). I now overlay my monsters to XYZ summon The Phantom Knights of Break Sword in attack position (DARK/Rank 3/ Warrior/ATK2000/DEF1000)

Kaiba: XYZ summoning again? Amazing!

Wallace: That's not all. I activate The Phantom Knights of Ragged Gloves. Since it was used as an XYZ Material for a Dark XYZ monster, the XYZ monster will gain 1000 ATK points

Jack: He can't be serious!

Wallace: Break Sword, attack his facedown monster!

The Phantom Knights of Break Sword attacks Vaan's facedown Hiro's Shadow Scout (DARK/2*/Fiend/ATK600/DEF500)

Vaan: Hiro's Shadow Scout effect activates. My opponent draws 3 cards and We both check the cards drawn. Any Spell Cards among them must be discarded to the Graveyard. Draw your 3!

Monster Reborn (Spell Card), Twin Twisters (Quick Play Spell Card) and The Phantom Knights' Rank-Up-Magic-Launch (Quick Play Spell Card) were drawn and were discarded.

Vaan: What rotten luck huh?

Wallace: I end my turn

Turn 3 (Vaan 8000/ Wallace 8000)
Vaan draws a card

Vaan: I activate a Spell Card, Hammer Shot. I destroy 1 Face-up Attack Position monster that has the Highest ATK. That would be The Phantom Knights' of Break Sword. 

The Phantom Knights' of Break Sword is destroyed

Wallace: I activate The Phantom Knights of Ragged Gloves's other effect. I can banish this card in my Graveyard to send another The Phantom Knights' card from my deck to the Graveyard. I send, The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak to the Graveyard from the deck.

The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak was sent from the deck to the Graveyard.

Wallace: I activate The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak's effect. I can banish this card from the Graveyard to add 1 The Phantom Knights card from my deck to the hand except The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak. I select, The Phantom Knights of Fragile Armor to the hand.

Vaan: I summon Stygian Street Patrol (DARK/4*/Fiend/ATK1600/DEF1200). And I attack directly!

Wallace: I activate a Trap Card, The Phantom Knights of Lost Vambrace. I target 1 face-up monster on the field; if that target is still face-up on the field, "The Phantom Knights" monsters I control cannot be destroyed by battle and that target loses 600ATK. Also its level becomes 2 until the end of the turn.

Vaan: I continue the attack

Vaan: I end my turn. 

Wallace: The Phantom Knights of Lost Vambrace activates its effect. It is then Special Summoned in Defense Position as a Normal Monster (DARK/2*/Warrior/ATK600/DEF0)

Wallace draws a card

Wallace: I activate a Trap Card, The Phantom Knights of Mist Claws. I target 1 of my Banished The Phantom Knights monsters and add it to my hand. I select The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak.

The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak is added to the hand.

Wallace: I end my turn

Joey: This is quite odd...

Vaan: I summon Royal Knight (LIGHT/3*/Fairy/ATK1300/DEF800). 

Jack: Another monster? This will not bode well

Vaan: Stygian Street Patrol, attack The Phantom Knights of Lost Vambrace!

The Phantom Knights of Lost Vambrace is destryoed by battle

Vaan: Stygian Street Patrol's effect activates. When it destroys a monster by battle, I can inflict damage to your life points equal to the original level of the monster x 100 (200 LP damage to Wallace)

Wallace: I activate the effect of The Phantom Knights of Fragile Armor from my hand. If a face-up The Phantom Knights monster I control is destroyed by battle or card effect, I can special summon this card from the hand. And I special summon The Phantom Knights of Fragile Armor in Defense Position (DARK/4*/Warrior/ATK1000/DEF2000).

Jack: Yeah but for how long?

Wallace: I set a card and summon The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak (DARK/3*/Warrior/ATK800/DEF1000). I activate its effect, if it is in Attack Position, which it is, I can target 1 Dark monster on the field. I change this card to Defense position and the target monster gains 800ATK/DEF until the end of my opponent's turn. Switching my Ancient Cloak to defense to give my Fragile Armor 800 ATK/DEF boost

Vaan: I sacrifice Royal Knight to Summon, Sky Scourge Invicil (EARTH/6*/Fairy/ATK2200/DEF1600). It gains the effect that since this was Tribute Summoned with a LIGHT Fairy type monster, while this card is faceup, I can negate the effect of all Spell Cards. 

Joey: This is not good.

Vaan: Entering my Battle Phase, Sky Scourge Invicil, attack Fragile Armor!

Wallace: I activate a Continuous Trap Card, Phantom Knights' Fog Blade. I target 1 effect monster and negate that face-up monster's effects. That Face-up monster cannot attack and it cannot be targeted for attacks by other monsters. I target Sky Scourge Invicil

Sky Scourge Invicil is unable to attack due to the effect of Phantom Knights' Fog Blade

Vaan: Fine, La Jinn, attack The Phantom Knights o Fragile Armor 

As both still had 1800 ATK, La Jinn the Mystical Genie of the Lamp and The Phantom Knights of Fragile Armor are both destroyed by battle.

Vaan: I end my turn

Turn 8 (Vaan 7800/ Wallace 6800)
Wallace draws a card

Wallace: I activate a Spell Card, Dark Eruption. I target 1 DARK monster with 1500 or less ATK in my Graveyard and add it to my hand. I select The Phantom Knights of Fragile Armor  (DARK/ATK1000)

The Phantom Knights of Fragile Armor is added to the hand.

Wallace: I set a monster in defense and end my turn

Kaiba: Hammer Shot disrupted Wallace's usual strategy of link or XYZ but let's see what Vaan can do

Turn 10 (Vaan 7800/ Wallace 6800)
Wallace draws a card

Wallace: I set a card and summon Chobham Armor Dragon (DARK/1*/Dragon/ATK0/DEF0). I then flip summon The Phantom Knights of Fragile Armor to face up Attack Position (DARK/4*/Warrior/ATK1000/DEF2000)

Jack: What could he be planning?

Wallace: I link Chobham Armor Dragon, The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak and The Phantom Knights of Fragile Armor to Link Summon, The Phantom Knights of Rusty Bardiche (DARK/Link-3/Warrior/Link/ATK2100).

Kaiba: But he cannot attack. What's the point?

Wallace: I activate the effect of Chobham Armor Dragon. Since this was sent to the Graveyard as Link Material, I can target 1 other Dark Monster i my Graveyard and add it to my hand, also my opponent can add 1 monster from their Graveyard to their hand. I target, The Phantom Knights of Fragile Armor to return to hand.

Vaan: I choose to return Hiro's Shadow Scout to the hand.

Both mentioned monsters return to their respective owners hands from their Graveyards.

Wallace: I now activate The Phantom Knights of Rusty Bardiche's effect. During my Main Phase, I can send 1 The Phantom Knights minster from my deck to the Graveyard, I can then set 1 The Phantom Knights Spell/Trap card directly from my Deck to my Spell & Trap Zone. I send from the Deck, to the Graveyard, The Phantom Knights of Cloven Helm to directly set from the deck, The Phantom Knights of Wrong Magnetring.

Kaiba: This will be quite the dilemma.

Wallace: I end my turn. And here I activate the effect of The Phantom Knights of Cloven Helm. I banish this card from my Graveyard to add 1 Phantom Knights Card from Graveyard to hand. I select The Phantom Knights of Break Sword to return not to the hand but since it is an XYZ monster, back to the Extra Deck.

The Phantom Knights of Break Sword returns to the Extra Deck.

Turn 11 (Vaan 7800/ Wallace 6800)
Vaan draws a card

Vaan: I set a monster and end my turn

Turn 12 (Vaan 7800/ Wallace 6800)
Wallace draws a card

Wallace: I summon The Phantom Knights of Cloven Helm (DARK/4*/Warrior/ATK1500/DEF500). I activate The Phantom Knights of Rusty Bardiche's effect. During my Main Phase, I can send 1 The Phantom Knights minster from my deck to the Graveyard, I can then set 1 The Phantom Knights Spell/Trap card directly from my Deck to my Spell & Trap Zone. I send from the Deck, to the Graveyard, The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots to directly set from the deck, The Phantom Knights of Shade Brigandine.

Kaiba: A lot of movement just through that

Wallace: Since a Phantom Knight card was sent to the graveyard, Cloven Helm gains 500 ATK power

Wallace: I attack your facedown with Cloven Helm!

The Phantom Knights of Cloven Helm destroys Vaan's facedown Hiro's Shadow Scout (DARK/2*/Fiend/ATK600/DEF500)

Vaan: Hiro's Shadow Scout effect activates. Draw 3 from your deck and any Spell Cards among them will be sent to the Graveyard.

Wallace draws 3 cards and he drew The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak (Monster), Phantom Kngihts' Sword (Trap), and Phantom Knights' Sword (Trap). All are added to the hand.

Vaan: Lucky bastard but you cannot attack me still. 

Wallace: I end my turn.

Kaiba: Fog Blade is a double edged sword. The target may not attack but cannot be attacked.

Jack: And the risk of The Phantom Knights cards is that it burns his deck fast.

Joey: He may run out

Kaiba: Remains to be seen

Turn 13 (Vaan 7800/ Wallace 6800)
Vaan draws a card

Vaan: I sacrifice Sky Scourge Invicil to summon Summoned Skull (DARK/6*/Fiend/ATK2500/DEF1200).

Since Sky Scourge Invicil left the field, Phantom Knights' Fog Blade is destroyed.

Joey: He can now attack! He has the strongest ATK on the field

Vaan: I attack your The Phantom Knights of Rusty Bardiche with Summoned Skull. Dark Lightning!

Wallace: I activate a Trap Card, The Phantom Knights of Wrong Magnetring. When my opponent's monster declares an attack. I negate it and special summon this card in Attack Position as an Effect Monster (DARK/2*/Warrior/ATK0/DEF0).

Jack: What a save!

Vaan: I end my turn

Turn 14 (Vaan 7800/ Wallace 6800)
Wallace draws a card

Wallace: I set two cards and activate the effect of The Phantom Knights of Wrong Magnetring. I can send this card and 1 face-up card I control to the Graveyard to draw 2 cards. I select my other card to be The Phantom Knights of Cloven Helm.

Both monsters are sent to the Graveyard to draw 2 cards.

Wallace: I then summon The Phantom Knights of Fragile Armor  (DARK/4*/Warrior/ATK1000/DEF2000). 

Vaan: Not enough power to take out Summoned Skull

Wallace: I activate a Trap Card, The Phantom Knights of Shade Brigandine. I can Special Summon this Card in Defense position as a Normal Monster (DARK/4*/Warrior/ATK0/DEF300).

Joey: Not enough

Wallace: I then overlay The Phantom Knights of Shade Brigandine and The Phantom Knights of Fragile Armor to XYZ summon, Dark Rebellion XYZ Dragon (DARK/Rank 4/Dragon/XYZ/ATK2500/DEF2000).

Kaiba: Well, he got out someone with equal attack to Summoned Skull.

Jack: Hate to break it to you Seto, but remember what Rusty Bardiche can do?

Wallace: The Phantom Knights of Rusty Bardiche's effect activates. As a DARK XYZ Monster was Special Summoned to a zone this card points to while this card is on the field, I can target 1 card on the field and destroy it. Dark Rebellion XYZ Dragon is summoned on the lower Right of Rusty Bardiche so I destroy your SUmmoned Skull

Summoned Skull is destroyed by card effect.

Wallace: I set two cards and proceed with the Battle Phase. Rusty Bardiche, direct attack!

Wallace: Dark Rebellion XYZ Dragon, direct attack!

Jack: Vaan had better do something drastic or else he loses

Wallace: I attack directly with Rusty Bardiche. And during the Damage Step before Damage Calculation I activate my 2 Continuous Trap Cards, Phantom Knights' Swords. Each one can target 1 face-up mosnter and it gains 800ATK. Since we're talking about two Swords. It gives my Rusty Bardiche an ATK boost of 1600ATK

Jack: No mercy

Wallace: Feel the wrath of the undead!

Kaiba: Wallace did more banishing than his supposed equal in that field

Joey: But Wallace was like a ghost of the past that still stays on and will not remain silent. He fought and beat down Vaan.

Jack: Vaan nearly had Wallace but again, Link and XYZ summoning really provided the edge here.

Kaiba: And with that, Wallace gains a win, Vaan records a loss.
