MishBir: Pregnancy Moments- Part 3

"Aur, hum usme-"

"Mishti, relax," Abir said, placing his hands on her arms. "Aaj hi baby ke liye nursery nahi banani hain. Relax."

"I'm just so excited!" Mishti said, grinning. "I have so many ideas...."

"Okay, okay, but relax, hmm?" Abir said. "Whatever ideas you have, tell me. Phir main nursery ready karoonga, aur tumhe dikhaunga."

****

"So," Abir said, grinning wide at Mishti. "The surprise is ready."

Mishti smiled at his enthusiasm, and also in anticipation of what Abir had done. He hadn't allowed Mishti to see how the work on the nursery was going, wanting to keep it a surprise for her.

"Come on," Abir said, taking her by the hand and gingerly leading her over to what used to be a guest room beside Abir and Mishti's bed room.

But as Mishti entered, she saw that it wasn't a guest room anymore. It had been transformed, completely.

Mishti gasped. It had been converted into the nursery, and it looked....amazing! Decorated white and purple, the room was filled with the numerous toys and other things that she, Abir and their families had purchased over the last few months for the baby. There was cradle in the middle, with several lights and stars suspended above it.

It...well, it was everything that Mishti could've imagined that they would want a nursery like for their baby.

And it was also something more than that. It was like-like a physical manifestation of what was going to be one of the biggest joy of their life-their child. Their baby.

"How is it?" Mishti heard Abir ask, and she turned to look at him. She smiled, knowing that her eyes would convey the emotions that she may not be able to with words.

"It's amazing," she said softly, and Abir smiled back.

Mishti walked inside, taking it all in, and letting her hand trail over the things.

"Wah! Yeh to bohot achcha lag raha hain."

Nanu's voice made Mishti turn around. He was standing at the door, next to Abir, looking around with an impressed smile. "Tune aur tere bhai-behen ne sachme bohot achche se banaya hain yeh."

"Thank you, thank you," Abir replied.

"Aur Nanu, itna achcha to hona hi chahiy, na," he continued, slinging an arm around his grandfather. "Akhir ye, Yashpal Rajvansh ke great-grandchild ke liye hain."

"Bilkul," Nanu agreed proudly. Mishti laughed.

"Ishita!"

"Nahi, nahi, Sandhya!"

"But yeh sab to sirf ladki ke naam hain...."

"Acha to...ladka hua to.... Abhishek!"

"Sameer kaisa rahega?"

"Nahi, naam hona chahiye....Jignesh."

"Chup!" Abir raised his voice to be heard above the din, and thankfully both the families present listened, stopping their conversations and turning to him. Mishti looked on with a smile.

Abir sighed dramatically. "Ek hi bachcha ho raha hain hamain, you know?" he said. "Das-bara nahi. To ek hi naam chahiye, okay? Itne saare suggestions-"

"Ek minute! What about...Mihir?"

And just like that, their families were off again, debating on what names to suggest to the expecting couple.

Abir sighed again, but he was also smiling. He turned to look at Mishti, and his smile widened on seeing her laughing.

He was more than thankful, really, to see his wife and family so happy.

"We should be ready," Abir said, for maybe the tenth time. "Any moment. We should be prepared."

Mishti gave him a tired smile from where she sat on her bed. "Abir, relax," she said. "We are ready. Kuch bhi hua, we'll be fine."

Mishti's due date was in less than a week, and as with everything else, Abir was getting paranoid about making sure that everything was prepared and ready.

Not just him, in fact. Everyone in the family seemed to be on toes, to be ready in case of any emergency.

Mishti herself was happy that she didn't have to worry about anything- knowing that Abir and her family would manage everything-and so could just relax, sit back and focus on her baby.

"I hope so," Abir said now, then his eyes fell on Mishti. He smiled at her, excitement and anticipation shining through his eyes.

Mishti smiled back, one hand going to her stomach. She knew what Abir was feeling. She was feeling the same thrill, thinking and knowing that their baby was so close to coming into their lives. She just prayed that everything would go smoothly, and that her child would come into the world healthy and safe.

"How are you feeling now?" Abir asked, coming to sit by her, and placing his hand over her's over her stomach.

"I'm good," she replied. "Kind of tired, but...I'm okay."

Abir nodded, then asked, "Kuch khaogi?"

"Nahi, I'm good," Mishti said.

Abir nodded again, then just smiled and dropped a kiss on her forehead.

The atmosphere was tense. Abir was sitting ramrod straight, staring at the closed hospital doors. His heart was honestly hammering in his chest, and he felt like it would burst out anay moment.

Nanu was sitting on one side of him, and Badi Maa on the other. His mother was standing nearby, and like Abir, staring intently at where her daughter-in-law had gone in. The rest of the family had spread out, all waiting silently.

The door opened. Abir jumped up immediately, rushing over to the doctor, the others crowding behind him as well.

The doctor smiled at Abir before he could even ask anything, and Abir felt something light up in his chest at that, because surely this meant-

"Congratulations, Mr. Rajvash. Your child has been delivered in perfect health. Aapki wife aur aapka bachcha bilkul swasth hain."

****

Mishti watched as Abir slowly lifted their baby up. He looked to be in complete awe as he took in the child, his face splitting into the widest smile ever.

Mishti herself felt her eyes beginning to brim with tears of happiness, and she felt so, so grateful for getting to experience this indescribable joy with the love of her life.

Abir looked up at her, and then walked upto her slowly. As he reached her, he put one arm around her, then carefully rested their baby between them.

Mishti smiled at the little bundle, which was at the moment sleeping quietly, unaware of the two people looking down at it with the utmost love and devotion.

Abir sighed contentedly, leaning down his head on her's.

"Our baby," he whispered softly.

Mishti moved one hand to cover Abir's, that was holding onto their child.

"Our baby," she echoed.
