Bakery- Marcus Butler

Music filled your ears as your iPod began playing your homemade playlist, all your favourite songs put together and put on shuffle. The piping bag you held in your hand was filled with the sweet vanilla frosting you had made minuets before. You loved working in your Family bakery, the business your great Grandmother had set up before she met your great Grandfather. Recipes and techniques had been passed down through the generations, you being the newest to begin working.

Unfortunately you couldn't work there full time with your parents, you still had University to go to, studying (Y/C/S) [Your chosen subject]. But weekends and holidays were always spend helping out with baking. You had been taught everything from a young age, cooking in the kitchen with your Grandmother and Mother from the age of 3. Although small the bakery attracted many regular customers and often out of town ones, meaning you were busy most of the time.

With a small smile on your face you began piping the white frosting onto the cupcakes that had been baked and cooled before. Making sure to swirl the icing and leave a small point at the top you quickly made your way along the line of cakes, each cake looking relatively the same despite the speed you were icing. As you reached the final cake the frosting in the bag ran out, causing you to smile, the perfect amount made. Suddenly, there was a tap on your shoulder.

You whipped around quickly, pulling the earbud from your ear and smiling at your Mother and the young man who was stood behind her. He looked a little older than yourself with light blonde hair and soft blue eyes, a smile spread across his pink lips. "Hello." You greeted, placing the piping bag down on the table behind you.

"(Y/N), this is Marcus. He's beginning work here today."

"Oh hi, welcome I guess." Marcus laughed at you, causing a blush to rise up to your cheeks.

"Are you okay to show him the ropes? Your Father is busy ordering next weeks ingredients and I've got to manage the counter." Your Mother explained, giving you a soft smile and placing a hand on your arm.

"Sure! Are you okay to wait for a minuet, I've got to get these cakes out on display before starting on a new batch."

"Would you like help putting them out?" The blonde asked, tilting his head slightly to look around you towards the cakes on the table.

"Okay, yeah thanks. You can learn how to put them out while we're at it!" You decided, ignoring the grin on your Mothers face. "Let's get started then." Without another word you grabbed five cakes in each hand, holding them lightly so you didn't squash them. Marcus stared at your wide eyed for a few moments. "What? You'll learn how to hold this many over time, come on grab a few and we'll start putting them out."

For the rest of the day you taught Marcus as much as you could within time limits and still producing cakes to put out. Over the day you and Marcus got to know one another, telling each other stories about your childhoods and laughing along the way. Your Mother and Father had also joined in, embarrassing you by telling disaster stories from when you first started working in the bakery. By the end of his shift it felt natural talking to Marcus, like you had known him for years.

"When are you back in?" You asked, tilting your head slightly as you walked him to the door. The Bakery was closing for the evening, you having to lock up before heading upstairs to the two floor flat that you shared with your parents above the shop.

"Tomorrow." He replied as he pulled a beanie over his hair with a smile. "You're here tomorrow right?"

"Yep, two weeks away from Uni which I'm glad for."

"Two weeks break and your working? I would have just hid in my room." Both of you let out a laugh at his statement.

"I like it here." You shrugged. "And I think I'd go crazy just hiding away, I'm so used to getting up and doing things so it doesn't really bother me. I do get days off but I rarely take them."

"When's your next day off supposed to be?" Your eyes flickered upwards for a few moments as you thought, as if looking directly into your head for the answer.

"This Friday I think, yeah Friday."

"Would you be willing to take Friday off?"

"And do what exactly?"

"Spend it with me, get to know each other better." The offer was so simply yet made you blush slightly. It was strange for you, normally boys don't give you a second glance. You were always that nerd at school or that family girl who would rather spend time baking than partying.

"That would be nice, yes okay." A smile found itself onto both of your lips. "I'll see you tomorrow."

"Yeah. Bye (Y/N)."

"Bye Marcus." Once he was out of sight you closed the bakery door and sighed, locking it up before turning around. Your Mother and Father both stood behind you, smiles on their faces and mischief in their eyes. "Hi." Confusion clouded your mind.

"My little girl finally has a crush!" Your Mother cooed, hurrying over to you and embracing you tightly.

"Mom it's just getting to know him, it's not like that." Was it?

"Don't think we didn't see that blush missy." Your Father chuckled. You groaned, they were going to tease you for the rest of the night.

"I'm going to bed!" You shouted, jumping up the stairs to your parents apartment two at a time. "Night!"

"You still need to eat dinner!"

"Dammit."
