Logan sat straight up, quickly shoved the blanket aside, and ran to the source of the noise. He then noticed Patton wasn't in the bed with him.

Oh God.

He sprinted to the kitchen where he saw Patton on the floor, clearly intoxicated, mumbling random things.

"P-Patton..." Logan said. "Why?"

"I won't be able to sleep without doing this," Patton slurred.

"There are better ways. I can help you!"

"I don't want to be a burden."

"You could never be."

"Yeah, I'm kinda drink- I mean drunk- so I can't really talk right bow- I mean now."

"I'll talk to you tomorrow morning about this."

"Okay, beautifulllll."

Logan picked him up bridal style, just like Roman did when Virgil fell asleep somewhere other than a bed. Patton passed out in his arms.

Logan set Patton on the opposite side of the bed, thinking he'd be more comfortable there, but Patton whimpered in his sleep, "Hold me, p-please... It's too scary alone..."

Logan quickly went to wrap his arms around his drunk boyfriend, who cuddled into him.

"I love you," Logan whispered, even though he knew Patton wouldn't hear. He kissed his forehead before falling asleep on his own.

The next few days, Logan had to stop Patton every single night from drinking.

"But Logan," Patton would whine, "I- I need to."

Logan lifted the wine bottle over his head and out of the shorter man's reach. "I can't let you."

"I'll die if I don't!"

"No, you won't."

"I won't be able to sleep!"

"I'll hold you and I'll keep you relaxed and then you'll fall asleep."

"It's not that easy! I just don't want you to worry about me!"

"If you don't want me to worry about you, stop drinking!"

That made Patton shut up. He looked down at the floor, ashamed. "Logan, I don't know how to stop," he said meekly.

Logan softened. "I know it's hard. But we can research and go get you help and you'll be all better. Is that okay?"

Patton wiped the tears off his face. "I want to get help but I don't want the first thing for a person to think about me to be 'wow, Patton's so fucked up.' I want to get better but I want to do it alone... I can't be bothering you all the time."

The taller man stared in shock at what Patton had just said. He had just cussed. Patton had just cussed. He didn't know what to say.

So he held the crying man's hands in his own and kissed all over his face.

"You'll be okay. It'll all be okay. I'll always be here for you. Just talk to me. You're not being annoying, I promise. You're opening up about something that's completely normal."

"It's normal?"

Logan nodded. "You bet. No matter what you do, I'll love you. You clearly need help and I'm here to do just that."

Patton tackle hugged Logan. "Th-thank you so much! I don't know what I'd do without you..."

(a/n: i just want to go into a random tangent that nobody cares about about the characters.

personally, patton is my favorite character (virgil is my favorite side in the yt series but i mean in this fic) because there's a part of him in everyone. and like im really proud of this story where you see a different side of him than you did in dear virgil because he was a minor character then.

when in dear virgil, virgil began to forgive hellen for what she'd done to him, he said that he felt like patton was with him saying what he was saying.

hellen definitely has a huge part of patton in her which is that she cares about others more than herself and thinks about others' problems more than her own and her selflessness and nervousness of failing people she wants to impress affects her negatively.

logan's emotions have definitely changed since he met patton and now he puts other people above his work (sometimes).

i wrote valerie to basically be patton but in a female form because i knew that obviously hellen needed someone like patton to help her through healing and throwing away her mistakes from the past, but she couldn't go to patton before. so when people describe valerie as being just like patton, you are correct.

the part of patton that's in roman is more than 'they're both positive thinkers.' it's that patton gives into what he believes is the easier path, but it is usually never the right way to go and ends him in a terrible situation. that went for roman in the first book where he didn't apologize to virgil for a while because he thought the right way was to wait for him to say sorry first, so that he wouldn't look 'weak' himself.

in calypso, patton is with her in her care about friendship. even after valerie broke up with her, she remained her best friend and strongly believes that friendship won't end unless something really, really terrible happens. she doesn't believe in petty fights.

anyway that's all i wanted to talk about bc i was thinking of it for a while)
