Big Brain

*even mEsSiEr, like how. how.*

Quiet wind bellows in the mid-autumn night as they passed through the maw; the question was not whom, are what... but why.

They dreaded the place, it did not contain nostalgic memories. None of which they had experienced was ever wished for to be witnessed again and they would've loved the idea, had they not angered the entire town of where they had called home.

Panting and sprinting through the bushlands, they pushed on raggedly under the moonlight. One halted, as if he had lost all bodily functions, and pulled his partner back before putting a finger to his lips. He mouthed two words, Giant...Valley.

Shock quickly fills his friend but the two, seemingly determined, had decided unanimously to carry on despite the risks they don't even know. Crouching as low as possible, they tried not to make a noise... not even as far as a faint crunch of a dried leaf.

But unbeknownst  to them, they were being listened to... by them. Unaware and exposed, the duo had already sealed their fate; they just didn't know how and when. Then suddenly, a loud THUMP could be heard right behind them.

The two couldn't believe their eyes, or ears... for they thought of how silent and deadly a literal GIANT could be to sneak up on them. They held their breath as the giant looked directly at them and as time slowed for the doomed humans.

The giant was quite amused, to find humans within his territory was a rare treat and he was not going to leave it to waste on the giants' other brethren. But fate, as it had it, would not allow such an easy meal. Multiple deafening footsteps closed in from a circumferential  direction and soon enough, blows were exchanged between many, many bloodthirsty giants.

The two could only watch as their lives were fought for as a prize, nothing but a trophy to these colossal creatures. Roars could be heard throughout the valley as multiple bodies fell with a dull THUMP. But in the midst of all chaos, a man had somehow survived a near crushing experience; with a consequence being an arm.

The human screamed in aguish and pain as his friend, though having fear surpassing healthy limits, tried to comfort him as he desperately tried to tie a tourniquet around his shattered arm. The distraction of such pain could only keep them in a state of adrenaline for so long, because a victor had been crowned and he longed his possessions back.

Picking them both up with a rough grasp of a hand, they felt their bones shatter and break. They had no voice, no hope, and no will. They just wished for a quicker death.

The giant lowered them into its mouth, but in a split second before contact, a blazing blur came out of the shadows and pounced on the giant; all while taking the humans away from the giants arm and making its escape.

'Another one... huh' so they thought, as they were whisked away to who knows where.

But, as alarming as it should've seemed, the giant had showed unapparelled restraint in the harm of the two as they sat fearfully on the giants palm. The shattered arm had cost the man his consciousness while his other friend could only watch, watch, and watch as the giant ran across the landscape with abnormal speed even for a giant that size.

Before long, the giant reached a cave but... gargantuanly so. With careful movement, the giant had slowly placed the humans on a surface. It was by then one of the humans saw something... different.

Whereas the giant species had always been buck naked, this one had proper... clothing; made from materials unknown. The interior of the cave had a fire in the centre and a semi-circled stone table carved from the side of the cave, which even came with its own stone carved stool.

The human, now evenly curious as he was scared, had several burning questions he needed answered. But that is, if he could even ask them in the first place.

But as an surprise, the giant had brought some... strange concoction in a huge bucket which it placed on the table. The human looked up fearfully at the giant, but the giant mimicked the bucket and held it to its mouth.

'You... want me to drink it?' the giant did not understand human language and patiently gestured another drinking motion.

The human was cautious at first: slowly edging towards the bucket that seems larger than average but then he thought, 'this would serve as only a shot of wine for the giant...' and so, as slowly as possible, he cupped a handful from the green-ish fluid and drank it.

The human felt... refreshed. His fear was now replaced with a strange feel for calmness, but that feeling ended when his body started glowing and he soon shouted in a confused manner. The giant laughed... it laughed.

The human would've flipped the giant off had he felt an even stranger feeling as if his entire body was healed: fatigue, hunger, anxiety and even his scars from his bashful youth days. He looked up at the giant once again, and as the colours of the fire began to set... he felt almost at peace with the smiling giant.

But then it came, a shriek that pierced the humans ears. He looked back to see his friend grasping at his broken hand, he panicked and looked around to see anything that could help... and he looked at the bucket, which was slowly being pushed towards him by a finger from the giant.

Never thinking twice, he brought the medicinal miracle and brought it to his friend. Cupping a few mouthfuls, he instructed his friend to gulp down the mysterious contents. As soon as he had drank his 3rd gulp, the hand had stopped spasming, as a golden ray of glowing light emitted from his then shattered body.

The friend sprang up from the table and looked frantically about before setting his eyes on the giant, and screamed once again. But his friend, Murr as he would call him, assured that the giant was of no immediate threat.

Murr explained what had happened, how the giant had 'rescued' them from their deaths and even healed them with the... liquid of wonders. He wasn't sure what to believe, but Murr seemed calm enough. And even before he could begin to count to 3, the giant had scooped them up to its chest gently and began to cuddle with the humans.

As the night passed and fire crackled, the giant cared for the humans, truly so. And the humans? They had no idea why.
