My sister wanted to use this song for this chapter. It's Sachi while in her coma.
~~~~~~~
A month went by and Herrick wasn't seen or heard from. They tried to contact him but failed. Render never spoke since the accident and Toshinori never smiled. He didn't have a reason to. He would visit his friend in the hospital everyday and tell her about what was happening. Aizawa worked on comforting his friends but nothing worked. Towards the end of the month, Toshi met Nana but he was angry with everything that happened and spoke to her about what he felt needed to happen. When he finished he went to the hospital to talk to Sachi about it.
"I tried to smile today... it didn't work..." he muttered as he held her hand. Sachi's breathe was even and too slow in his mind.
He stared at his hands as he thought and sighed. "Please... wake up... Render hasn't spoken... Aizawa is running thin... Herrick is gone.... we can't find him..." he whispered, her hand twitched slightly.
He looked at it but knew better than to be hopeful. He sighed and gently kissed her forehead. "I still love you..." he whispered feeling how soft, and warm to the touch her hand was. He sat down and kissed her hand a few times as his tears fell. He then got up and left as he fought back tears. It hurt too much to be in that room.
Nana later picked him to be the next hero and he trained hard. Every night he'd visit Sachi and say he loved her, then kiss her head when he said goodnight. He was tired but wouldn't let that stop him. He continued to train and started to feel his spirits rise. He then worked on helping his friends heal. Aizawa hardly slept as he looked for Herrick or tried to help Render or visit his friend. Toshinori eventually got him to sleep and got Render to speak, even if it was only once. He went to the hospital again in better spirits after a while.
"Sachi." he smiled and sat by her then gripped her hand. "Render spoke and Aizawa is sleeping. And guess what? I'm smiling." he said as his smile grew to prove he was working on it. She of course didn't respond as she lay there. The blonde looked up as he heard someone enter the room.
"Hello? Sorry to interrupt, I need to check her monitors." A nurse said as she smiled a little.
He looked up at the woman and wiped his tears away. "It's okay... she... um... probably doesn't like it when I ramble to her..." he muttered and stood to leave.
She smiled sadly, and started checking her vitals. "You never know. Sometimes... talking to them might help."
"You really think so?" he asked and glanced at the many things Render colored or drew for her as he sat down again. It was mostly colored flowers in vases.
She nodded. "It hasn't been scientifically proven that they can hear you, but it's nice to think so."
He nodded and hung his head as he held the girls hand in his. He sighed and looked to see that Render had put her hair in a braid. She would come and do her hair everyday, but wouldn't speak. She felt as though it was better for her to be invisible. The nurse worked silently, glancing at Toshinori every once in a while. He sighed and kissed Sachi's forehead before whispering to her and leaving. He didn't know what to do.
The woman frowned, wanting him to keep his hope. She looked to the sleeping girl. "He needs you darling. You gotta wake up for him." He had left and wandered down the hallway as he shoved his hand in his pockets. He stood taller and furrowed his brow as he went to continue training.
He continued to work hard for a while but one day he lost his master. He didn't visit her on that day as he mourned. Herrick had been there to watch and witness the woman's murder. Toshi felt alone and cried as his heart broke again. His friends tried to comfort him, but to no avail. A week went by before he went back to sit with Sachi. Broken once again. He didn't say anything as he stared at his hands, letting the nurse work.
The nurse watched him, and frowned, seeing him upset. "Hey, it'll be okay."
"Will it?" He asked quietly and stared at his hands. "I lost my parents... my best friend... my love... and now my teacher who was like a mother to me..." he whispered and looked at her as tears fell down his face. "How is it 'okay'?" he rasped. She frowned, not realizing what this young man had gone through and she patted him on the back.
He looked at Sachi again, not holding her hand as he stared blankly. He narrowed his eyes and clenched his fists tightly. "I... I'm going to change things for the better. I'm going to make the world safe so people can smile and not be afraid." He said and looked at Sachi. "A world where you won't get hurt every again." He whispered quietly and gently kissed her forehead once more. He stood and thanked the nurse before leaving. She frowned, and watched him go, concern on her face.
Herrick was shocked. He had witnessed the destruction of his friends entire world. All for One sighed in content and smiled as he stood on a building with him. "Do you feel that?" He asked as he inhaled. "It's fear and the city is filled with it." He smirked
Herrick glanced up at his teacher, nodding slightly. "But... why do we need to fill them with fear?"
"When you want someone to respect you and make you leader, you do certain things." He said seriously. "I need you to find that other hero that was with Nana, and end him." He said darkly.
Herrick froze. "Sir, I don't think I can."
The villain looked at him and furrowed his brow. "And why not?" He inquired.
He looked at the ground. "He... He was my friend. He helped me, want to try."
"You know of his identity?" The man asked as he smirked darkly. "I suggest you go stop him before I do." he said. "Consider this another test."
Herrick looked up, his eyes pleading quietly. But after a moment, he hung his head. "... yes sir."
"And Herrick." he said and looked at him, changing his mind. "Don't kill him immediately. Make him suffer." All for One said and the boy nodded hesitantly, as he walked off.
Toshinori was at his apartment as he stared at his hands and studied. He was so tired from training. He sighed and lay on his bed as he thought about Sachi. "I should get you something..." he said to himself. Herrick swallowed nervously, and knocked on Toshi's door a moment later.
The blonde blinked in surprise and looked to it then got up and walked over. He opened the door and grinned. "Herrick!" he shouted and hugged him tightly. "We found you!" he laughed and gripped his shoulders. "Well... you came back so technically you found yourself." he chuckled.
Herricks face was pale, and he glanced around nervously. "... You have to leave." he whispered as he looked at his still young, thin friend.
"What?" Toshi asked as he kept a hold of his shoulders and his smile faded as he furrowed his brow.
"You can't stay here, it's too dangerous. You have to get out of Japan, NOW." The dark haired boy said sternly, yet his voice shook a little.
Toshinori led him into his apartment and closed the door as he sighed and looked at him. "I know... but I have to finish the school year... plus... Shota and Render need me... so does Sachi." he said seriously.
He shook his head. "No, y-you don't understand Toshi, you're in trouble. Someone wants you dead. You have to go. Tonight." He warned.
"And where will I go?" he asked as he looked at him. "My master already told me where to go but I can't leave now." he muttered.
"Then go. Why can't you leave yet?" Herrick couldn't understand the problem.
"I'm not done here..." he said and looked at him. "I also want to be here for Sachi... Shota... Render... and you." he whispered.
Herrick's face softened, and he looked at the ground. "... We'll be fine. But you need to leave, I don't wan to have to hu-... I don't want you to get hurt."
The tall teen looked at him and furrowed his brow. "Why would you have to hurt me?" he asked.
He looked up, startled. "What? I didn't say that." He sorta laughed.
"Yes you did... but then you tried to cover it up." the blonde said and gently gripped his shoulder. "Please tell me." he whispered.
Herrick was trembling. and he took in a shaky breath. "He want's me to... to kill you. I-I can't do that. So you have to leave, a-and go somewhere he cant find you.."
"I can't.... not yet..." he said and hugged him tightly. "But I'll help you..." he promised as he tried to figure out what his friend meant.
"How? The only other choice, has one of us end up dead." the dark haired teen clung to his friend tightly. He had missed his UA friends.
"It's okay... I won't let anything happen to you." the training hero muttered and hugged him tighter. He stepped back and went to the kitchen for a moment. "Why do you have to kill me?" he asked.
Herrick looked to the ground. "... Because I was told to."
"Just because someone says to doesn't mean you have to do it." he said and looked at him. "Who is it?" He inquired.
He looked up at Toshi. "He's my teacher. He wants to make the world better, and stop people from getting hurt, like Sachi. We're trying to fix it."
He thought for a moment and looked at him again. "But why would he tell you to murder your friend? Or anyone?" he asked.
"... Sometimes... TO make the world better... bad things have to happen to good people. So they can realize how bad it is." He said quietly, He had started to firmly believe in this.
"No. The world can change without hurting people." he said as he boiled water and set up some cups. "We can help people without murdering them." The young hero glanced at him.
"I don't think so. You can't change the world, if the same corrupt people sit In the seats of power." Herrick said as he glared a little.
"Unless you change their hearts." He said and gently poked his friends chest, keeping his finger there. "Sachi did it... she was just one person... but she's helped so many people at school and around her. You lead by example... words but most importantly... action." he said and poured him some tea. He was acting as if they were just friends having a chat. He wasn't afraid.
Herrick thought about it. "True... Sachi was good at helping people, and talking to them... but I'm not Sachi. I'm not good, like she is."
"But you can be." he said as he motioned for him to sit. "Please, you're my guest." he insisted and got out some treats. They sat and quietly drank some tea like old friends would. "It's good you aren't Sachi, because you are you and that's what makes you special and unique to the world." he smiled a little.
He shook his head. "No, Toshi. I can't. I've never been able to. I've tried. For three years, I tried, and when Sachi got hurt, I realized... there's just no way I could be a hero."
"Yes you can." he smiled a little and looked at him. "I'll help you. I've lost a lot but I'm still moving forward.... I can help you do the same." he said.
"You don't understand, at this point, I've done too much. I can't go back, And I'll never be able to become a hero. Even if I wanted too, I've hurt too many people." the dark haired boy whispered as tears filled his eyes.
The blonde teen stared at his lost friend for a few minutes then stood and walked over before he hugged him tightly. "Then I'll save you... I'll find a way to save you." he promised.
Herrick nodded slowly. He didn't quiet believe his friend. He couldn't hope for it. He knew what would happen if he tried to go back to a normal life. "What are we gonna do? About the immediate problem?"
The other boy thought for a moment and found a kitchen knife then came back. He looked at him then held out his arm. He torn his uniform and cut his arm a little then let his torn shirt soak it. "Here..." he whispered and looked at him as he held the bloody torn cloth out to him.
Herrick's eyes widened, and he took the cloth in his hands. He looked up at Toshinori. He hugged him quickly. He let go, and headed to the door. He looked back at his friend then smiled slightly. "... Good luck out there."
"You too." the young hero whispered and smiled a little as he watched him. He tended to his wound and stared at his tea. He sighed and went to the hospital for a moment. Sachi's room was quiet, and mostly dark. The monitors beeped slowly, and rhythmically.
"Hello love." Toshi smiled and opened the curtains to show the beautiful morning. He walked over and gently stroked her hair then kissed her forehead. "Happy Birthday Sachi." He whispered. There were a few balloons at her bedside, that her family had left her. But it all just seemed to make the room more depressing without her bright smile.
He looked around and then at his bag before he looked through it. "Let's brighten up the place." he smiled and pulled out some LED lights. Mostly white but he had a few pink and blue. With the help of a nurse he put them up and around the room. The nurse smiled at the young boy, it was very nice of him to do all this for when she woke up... If she woke up. No one had the heart to tell him she might not wake up.
He smiled and looked around the room as his eyes sparkled. He walked over and sat by her side. "I see you have flowers already and stuffed animals as gifts... I uh.... went to the beach this morning... oh! and I saw Herrick! Those are both good presents for you." he smiled then it faded a little. "I um.... made you something... it's not very good... but I worked hard on it... poked myself and cut myself a few times..." he muttered as he fiddled with the small box in his hand. It wasn't a pretty box, just a small brown one. "I worked on it for a few days... if you don't like it... you don't have to keep it." he muttered and shakily opened it to show her the shell on some wire with beads.
The nurse bit her lip, and excused herself from the room, before she would start crying. He didn't notice and stared at his handy work. He looked at his love and then at the other gifts in her room. He had put their initials on a small gold tag by the clasp. He gently put it on her and carefully lifted her head to get it on. He gently laid her down again and stared at her.
"I.... I'll buy you whatever you want when I get money... something better and fancier if you want." he whispered and kissed her cheek. "Happy Birthday love..."
He sat with her and held her hand as he looked around. He spent the day with her and even had a cupcake. "Make a wish." He whispered and smiled as he squeezed his eyes shut and gripped her hand. "Oh I wish for that too." He smirked and blew out the candle.
He sang her 'happy birthday' and a few other songs as he smiled for her. It was hard but he managed to smile the whole time. The nurses would watch by the door and almost found it sad. Some did. He looked at her and sighed shakily as he kissed her forehead.
"I have to leave by the end of the school year." He whispered quietly. "I want you to wake up before then... to see your beautiful eyes and smile..." he whispered and rested his forehead against hers, unintentionally drifting off. The next morning, the nurses found him curled up on the bed next to her. He was still sleeping and holding her hand. A nurse gently and begrudgingly, shook him awake.
Time went by and he worked hard again to be what he needed to. He trained hard and visited Sachi everyday. If he missed a day he'd apologize and bring her flowers. Normally it was only one flower because that was all he could afford. He hung out with his other friends when he could and smiled more, healing them as time went on, he couldn't leave them like this. The three friends gathered to have Christmas with their friend and simply gave her heart felt letters to open later. Before they knew it, the school year was coming to an end, and they'd all go their separate ways. Toshi quietly sat with his love as he held her hand. He had changed so much. He was bigger and stronger now.
"Sachi... please wake up..." he whispered. "I leave next week...." he rasped as tears fell down his face. He gripped her hand and kissed it. "Please..."
The nurse sighed. "I know this isn't something you want to here but... she may not wake up. It's hard to tell with these situations. Sometimes... It's best to just move on."
He shook his head not wanting to believe it as he looked at her. "She'll wake... she's a fighter..." he whispered. He sighed and gently kissed the bubblegum haired girl's forehead. "Stay with me..." he mumbled and left to go to home, he had been there for hours already.
All for One thought for a moment as he stared at the sky. "Herrick, tell me about the accident that brought you to me." the villain said gently. Herrick glanced up at him nervously, before telling him about what happened but, he hesitated when he came to the point about the quirks.
"Hmm..." he mumbled as he thought then went to a computer. "Thank you." he said politely and Herrick nodded slightly, nervous and on edge.
The next day, Toshinori smiled as he went to see Sachi. He entered her room to find it empty. His smile faded and he stared at the clean room and empty bed. "No..." he whispered as tears filled his eyes. "Excuse me..." he said to a nurse who was in the room. He didn't recognize her. "W... where is Sachi?" he asked.
"Oh... she died last night... we couldn't save her... I'm sorry." she said and he shook his head before running to the front desk. His heart breaking.
He asked the woman at the desk and she told him the same thing. He was told that her parents were given all her belongings. He ran off as tears fell down his face. He ran to her home and knocked on the door. There wasn't a response and he kept trying but no one answered. He ran back to the hospital and asked again for her, only to get the same answer. He tried calling her parents but they didn't answer. He hung his head and left again as his heart shattered. As soon as he left, the nurse that spoke to him smirked and morphed into another person before leaving.
The sun started to set as he went to the beach. He stared at the ocean then sank to his knees. He gripped the sand and cried out in pain as he gripped his heart. She was gone again. He wasn't aware of Herrick watching him in the shadows.
The dark haired teen frowned slightly. He hated seeing him like this. Toshi continued to cry and sob as he called her name in his broken state. She was gone again. Herrick looked away. he couldn't take it anymore, he couldn't stand to see him like that.
Toshi knelt there as he sobbed and gripped the sand. After a while he calmed down and stared blankly at the water that was now rushing to his knees. He stared for a while then looked to the horizon. He felt the cold metal of the necklace she once gave him against his chest. He always kept it under his shirt, to remind himself of her. He stared for a while then stood shakily and walked along the beach. The dark haired teen watched him go, before he turned, and walked back to his teacher. He had helped cause his friend so much pain.
