The next day she wandered around as Herrick went on a mission. Hugo stayed near her and never left her side as she walked around. She was quiet, not talking much. She didn't see a need to talk, she'd just get hurt.
Hugo paused and looked at her then led her to a garden area in the center of the building. "I come here to gain peace." he said as he sat on a bench. It was an indoor garden on one of the floors of the skyscraper.
Sachi looked around. "... it is pretty." she muttered, her heart breaking.
"Yes it is...." he smiled and set his hand on the wooden bench then made some flowers grow. "My quirk can be... violent... but I feel it can be more than that here..." he said.
She looked at the flowers, and smiled. "... I can only make people feel happy." She said softly.
"Really?" he asked and looked at her as he smiled a little. "That's a very special quirk." he winked to make her feel better.
She smiled slightly. "I suppose..."
"How is it not?" he asked and studied her.
"It didn't help me. Not when I needed it." she whispered.
He stared at her for a moment and looked around the area. "How so?" he asked. She explained to him what happened at the mall.
He listened and didn't speak as he thought about what she told him. "It's okay." he whispered and hesitantly set a hand on her shoulder. "You saved their lives though." he smiled a little.
She nodded slightly. "But it can't help very much.
"You mean now?" he asked and looked at her.
"Or ever." She laughed slightly though it was sad.
"Well... I can think of a few ways you can use it for good... and some bad..." he muttered.
She looked at him. "really? How?"
"For one... some people don't know what it's like to be happy and you could help them in that way. You can... also overdose them with happiness." he said seriously.
She frowned slightly. "Make them... Too happy? That... Doesn't sound right..."
"That's the bad I was talking about." he said. "You...are with villains.. which doesn't make sense to me... you're a nice kid."
"They left me... Everyone left me. Except Herrick." She said quietly.
He furrowed his brow as he looked at her. "So... you turned to the villains... and yet you still have a heart of gold and don't belong here." he whispered.
She looked up at him. "Well why are you here? You seem too nice."
Hugo stared at her then looked at his hands for a moment. He didn't respond and she wondered if he would. "I'm in debt to All for One..." he muttered.
She frowned slightly. "oh..."
He looked at her and raised an eyebrow. "What's wrong?" he asked.
She shook her head. "Nothing's wrong. but, I guess it makes sense."
"Does it?" he asked and looked at her for a moment then at his hands. "Does it make sense as to why I'm working for a man who manipulates and kills?" he grumbled and threw a rock he had picked up.
She frowned, looking at the ground. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you." She apologized, fiddling with her long sleeves.
"Not your fault... I got myself into this mess and can't get out of it." he muttered and looked at his hands again. "I'm dead if I leave and the pro's wont help because I'm a villain." he whispered.
Her frown deepened. "But... that's... not right. Heroes are supposed to help everyone in need."
"When they see a villain... who's been a villain for years... they immediately take them down. It doesn't matter if I've changed." he told her.
"They're never there when you need them." she muttered with sadness.
He sighed and looked at her then furrowed his brow. "Don't fall into bitterness." he whispered. She nodded, but wasn't sure how she was supposed to not to.
He looked at her and furrowed his brow as he realized he upset her. He didn't want her to turn into a villain like Herrick had. "Hey... what do you like to do?" he asked.
"Umm... I... I like the beach..." She replied.
"Do you?" he asked softly and looked around for a moment. "Come on." he said and got up.
She stood. "Okay..."
He led her off and they left the building after he told someone he was taking her out to 'train'. They went to the beach as he wore a hoodie, keeping the hood up so he could hide. "Here you go Sunshine." he smiled a little and looked at her as they stood on the walk way.
She smiled. "I haven't been here since... Forever."
He smiled and glanced around a little before leading her to the sand. "Enjoy it kid." he said as he looked at her.
She smiled at him, The first genuine, real live smile she had smiled since she'd left the hospital. "Thank you Hugo."
"No problem Sunshine." he whispered and smiled a little. "Go have fun." he said and ruffled her hair. She walked along the beach, the waves splashing up to her knees. She giggled happily. He watched her as he put his hands in his pocket and kept watch. He looked at his shoes and took them off then stood in the sand as he wiggled his toes and smiled. Tears filling his eyes. She turned in a circle, feeling the breeze. She couldn't help but smile. She felt so free. He looked at his feet then up at her again as he smiled slightly. He felt the need to protect her. He had failed once before to protect someone, he wouldn't do that again.
She continued walking, digging her toes in the warm, moist sand. He watched her and wiped his tears away as he smiled a little. He saw people and put his head down a little as he walked the beach. After a few more minutes, she came back up to him, a happy grin on her face. "Thank you Hugo."
He looked at her and smiled a little as he saw the happiness in her eyes. "No problem." he said. She gave him a hug as she grinned from ear to ear.
He stiffened at first then looked at her before slowly hugging her. He smiled and held on to her as tears fell down his face. "Thank you.."
She looked up at him, slightly confused. "For what?"
"A hug... I haven't had one in years..." he admitted.
She frowned. "Well, we can't have that." She hugged him once again.
He laughed and squeezed her as tears fell down his face. "You're too sweet..." He whispered and let go as he wiped his tears away.
She brushed off a stray tear. "Hey, no crying, this is supposed to be a happy moment, not a sad one."
"You're right. I'm sorry." he said and smiled as he looked at her. "What else do you like to do?" he asked.
She smiled. "I really like to make people happy, so I think I'll turn that question to you."
He chuckled as they walked along the beach. "I like pastries and baked goods..." he said and trailed off as he thought of something.
She looked up at him. "What is it?"
"Just... stuck in the past..." he sighed and smiled at her, though it was sad.
She bit her lip, and took his hand. "Well, Lets go get some pastries."
He nodded as they walked and he'd kept his head down. "You remind me of little Hana... my daughter..." he said quietly.
Sachi looked at him. "... May I ask... where she is?" She asked quietly.
He hesitated and stopped as he realized he let something slip. "She... died...." he whispered. "Got very sick... and I couldn't help her..." he rasped.
She frowned, and squeezed his hand gently. "I'm sorry." She said quietly.
"I made bad choices... lost my job to... someone who preformed better and we lost our home... my wife stayed with me but... I couldn't get a job... so I stole... I did that for a year but.... all the money didn't save Hana." he said and looked at his shoes he had on his feet again. "I started a life of crime for no reason... I couldn't stop though... later I fought with another villain... and won. He got angry and burned my home to the ground in the middle of the night... I failed to save my wife..." he rasped and looked to the sky. "I tried... I asked for help... but who wants to help a villain... I did horrible things until that day... I just wanted to change after that. I had nothing left and my son disowned me..." he trailed off.
She hugged him tightly. "I'm so sorry Hugo."
"It's... fine... it's my fault..." he said as he hugged her again. "Now." he said and looked at her. "Let's go get some pastries." he muttered and walked with her to the bakery. Not wanting to talk about it anymore.
She walked in, and looked around. "What do you want?"
He chuckled and they went to the counter before he order some. "Get what you want." he smiled
She shook her had. "Oh no, Today, I'm paying." She ordered a Danish, and payed for both the pastries. He smiled a little and they sat at a table in the back as they waited for them to be freshly made. He glanced around a little and pulled his hood down more.
She glanced around. "We could wait outside if you want." She said quietly.
He nodded and went to get up but froze as he saw some pros walk in. One of the owners pointed at them. "Dang..." he whispered through gritted teeth and clenched his fists.
Sachi frowned. She looked back at him. "Let me handle this." She stayed sitting, and pulled him back into his seat.
He looked at her and nodded slowly as he looked at the table and the three walked over. "Haven't seen you in a while, Hugo. You still murdering innocent families?" the leader asked and glared darkly. Hugo didn't respond, he only 'killed' his family, and that wasn't on purpose.
Sachi looked at them confused. "Who? I'm sorry, who's this... Hugo you're talking about?"
They looked at her and frowned deeply. "Hugo is this man here." the pro said.
She looked at him confused. "Hugo? I'm sorry, you must be mistaken, this is my uncle, Dougal."
"Oh... well... I'm sorry... he just looks like him and uh... looks shady." he said feeling embarrassed.
She frowned, and shook her head. "Oh no, he's very sweet. But I'm glad you guys are being so vigilante. It's nice to know we have such attentive heroes watching over us. Could I buy you a snack?"
"Uh... no... thanks..." he muttered and they looked at him. "I apologize sir." he said and bowed a little before they left. Hugo watched them go then looked at her.
"Why did you do that?" he whispered so only she heard.
She looked at him. "I guess... I still like helping people. Besides, you've been so kind since the moment I got here."
"Don't forget that..." he said as their treats came. "Never forget that you like helping people." he whispered and smiled. "Thank you..."
She smiled. "No problem... Dougal." She nibbled on her Danish. He watched her then slowly pulled his hood down as he smiled a little. They soon finished and headed back. Sachi was happy, but couldn't help feeling... Uneasy as they headed back.
He noticed she seemed nervous and furrowed his brow. "You okay?" he asked.
She smiled somewhat, and nodded. "I'm fine."
He stopped and looked at her. "Sachi... if something is wrong... you can tell me." he said.
She shook her head. "It's fine! I'm fine."
He raised an eyebrow but didn't press her as they headed back. "Do you want to go to the beach tomorrow?" he asked.
She nodded. "I'd love that." They got back and he led her to her room before quietly leaving to go do something else.
She looked out the window, and at all the lights. She hadn't opened any of her presents still. they just sat their in the corner.
She knew she needed to open them, they were from her family and friends. But the thought made her sad. She shook her head, and decided to ignore it. Yet the thought continued to stay.
The next day, Hugo and Sachi went out early in the morning as Herrick went to do another mission. Hugo worked on helping her be happy as they wandered. She really enjoyed walking, and talking with the man.
They spent all day at the beach and getting their favorite foods. Hugo laughed more and by the end of the day she was tired. He gave her a piggyback ride home as she slept. He was so happy. Sachi would thank Hugo, and in public places she'd call him Dougal. Sandstorm and Circuit watched them then frowned deeply. This wasn't villain behavior at all.
The man hummed as he gave the tired girl a ride to her room one day. He put her to bed then tucked her in. "Good night, Sachi." He whispered and rubbed her head. He saw the presents and furrowed his brow then left the room.
The next morning they went out again on an adventure. She walked with him, her smile was genuine, and she was more herself around Hugo.
The old man smiled at the young girl and had given her some pointers on using her quirk. He laughed as they walked the beach and rubbed her head. He found a sand dollar and gave it to her, feeling as though she was like his own kid. She smiled, and thanked him as she hugged him tightly.
He smiled and they wandered some more. He found a gift shop and handed the sand dollar to the person, Trading it in for a bracelet for her that she picked.
She put it on. "Thank you." She whispered as she admired the jewelry.
"No problem he said and looked around a bit as he thought. She wandered around the shop, absentmindedly. He watched her and smiled a little as he looked at a few things, wondering how to get her out of the villains lair.
"What are you looking for?" he asked and smiled a little as she hummed.
She shrugged. "Just browsing really." She whispered. He nodded wondering if he should get something but shook his head.
She looked over at him. "do you want anything?"
He jumped a little and glanced at her then shook his head. "No... that's okay..." he muttered. She glanced at him, before picking something up, and bought it. He watched her and they quietly left as he looked to the stormy sky.
She handed him the little box. "For you."
He furrowed his brow and opened it then smiled a little. "It's beautiful..." he stated.
Sachi smiled. "I hope you like it."
"I do... thank you Sunshine." he smiled and looked at the time. "We better head back." he frowned.
She nodded. "Okay."
He led her back to the building and they headed to her room, though they were stopped by two men. "All for One wants to see both of you." one said and smirked. Sachi swallowed nervously, and nodded.
Hugo frowned and followed after the two men. He wasn't going to let her get hurt. They went into the office and the men left them with All for One. "Have a seat." he said and Hugo glanced at it.
"No thank you sir." he said seriously. Sachi stood uncomfortably, unsure if she should sit or what.
All for One looked at them then glanced between the two. "Tell me Sachi. Do you like your time here?" he asked, she nodded hesitantly.
"Good good." he said as he looked at them then glanced between the two. "Tell me Hugo.... do we run a daycare?" he asked.
"No sir. I'm watching over the girl to protect her from the others who wish to harm her." he informed.
"By going on outings when she should be training? When you say you're training?" he inquired. Hugo clenched his fists as he stood his ground.
"I'm-" All for One punched him hard in the stomach and he fell to his knees. The leaders arm going back to normal.
"I know what you thought." he said coldly as he stared down at him.
Sachi gasped, and stumbled back. "No, please don't hurt him. I-It wasn't his fault. I-I made him do it!"
"You MADE him do it?" All for One asked as Hugo coughed and gripped the ground while his other hand gripped his midsection.
She nodded, but was shaking. "I-I-I Wouldn't stop asking h-him to take me..."
"He willingly took you around to keep you entertained." he said darkly as he smacked the man in the face making him fall over. The leaders arm went back to normal again.
She stepped forward. "Please, stop hurting him!"
He looked at her and stepped back as he thought. "You both need to learn." he growled angrily. She watched him nervously, unsure what to do.
He flicked his hand and she sat in the chair as metal trapped her. "You can watch and I'll leave you with a warning." he said and started beating on her kind hearted friend. Tears streamed from her eyes, and she tried to get free.
All for One looked at the man as he lay on the floor and coughed. He grabbed him by the hair and mad him kneel as he pulled him up a little. Hugo looked at him as his nose and mouth bled. "You won't get off so easily next time." he said. "Understand that you still serve me until you die." he told him calmly. Hugo grit his teeth but said nothing, causing the leader to hit him again. "Do you understand?" he asked.
"Y... yes... master..." he said through gritted teeth. All for One nodded and shoved him to the ground then let Sachi go. "Take him to the medical area." he said seriously and went towards his desk.
Sachi knelt by Hugo, and nodded. She helped him to his feet, and the moment they were out of the room, she used her quirk, taking his mind off the pain.
He grunted and walked with her as he kept his arm around her shoulders. He felt weird as she used her quirk but he knew she was trying to help. He limped as they went to the medical area. He sat on the medical bed and looked at Sachi as he smiled a little. "That could have been worse." he said.
She smiled sadly. "I suppose so."
"You okay though?" he asked as the medic worked quietly.
She nodded. "I'm fine."
"You sure?" he asked and the medic smacked the back of his head.
"She said she's fine now leave her alone." he huffed.
she smiled slightly. "See? Even the medic says so."
He wasn't sure and watched her then nodded slowly as he looked at his hands. The healer mumbled to himself as he worked and soon had the man mostly healed, he would just be sore. Sachi sat next to him silently.
The medic then walked off since someone came in to tell him two guys got in a fight. Hugo looked at her and was again concerned about her.
Sachi watched the medic go. "... I'm sorry..."
"For what?" he asked and looked at her.
She sniffed, and bit her lip, trying not to cry. "... For getting you in trouble."
"Hey... you didn't get me in trouble." He whispered and looked at her then wiped a stray tear away. "I didn't it to myself." He smiled slightly.
She looked at him. "But you shouldn't have too."
"Shouldn't have to what? Get in trouble?" He chuckled sadly.
She nodded. "You shouldn't have to go out of your way for me..."
He looked at her and wiped another tear away from her cheek. "Listen... I don't want you to be mixed up with these people...." he said. "You need to find a better place to live your life... be free..." he trailed off.
Sachi shook her head. "I have no where else to go."
He nodded sadly and looked at his hands as he set them in his lap. "Then I'll do what I can to protect you." he said.
She took his hand. "Just... Don't get hurt... Please. Not because of me."
"It's better for me to get beat and hurt than you." he said and looked at her.
She didn't agree with him, but at the same time... She saw what All for One could do.....
"You already got hurt while here, Sachi." he said and gently touched the strange scar on her face. "You've been hurt enough out there as well..." he said.
"And you? Haven't you been hurt enough?" She inquired.
"I'm fine... we all have things we have to live through. You still have a future though." he said
She nodded slowly. "But... be careful. Please."
"I will." he promised and looked at her then hugged her as he squeezed his eyes shut. She hugged him tightly, but tried not to hug him too tightly.
