I Think We Have Chemistry...
The rest of the day went okay, and I had a pretty good time. Mikkel had two more classes with me, Language Arts and History, so I had a friend in some of my classes. During Study Hall yesterday Hannah and I talked throughout it, and I found out we had lots in common. I also ran into Scarlet once more during lunch, and I caught her giving me glares with the rest of the people at her table. They all look equally as mean as her, but I couldn't judge them yet, I didn't know them. It was lunch the next day and I sat at one of the tables in the back with Hannah, talking about whatever we could think of.
"So, how'd the rest of your first day go?" she asked, taking a sip of her water.
"It went alright. We didn't do much in any of the classes though. The boy I told you about, Mikkel, was in two of my classes," I replied, turning the page in my book.
She nodded. "That's good, what about Scarlet? Did she bother you again?"
"Not anything other than glares.", I said almost bitterly. Hannah kind of rolled her eyes. It was apparent that Hannah didn't like Scarlet.
"Don't worry about her," she said, "We'll deal with it later." I shook my head as I chewed on a bite of my apple. The lunchroom was quite noisy and I was trying to get used to it. With a glance back at Scar's table, I noticed that the other girls were talking quietly amongst themselves. Every now and then one would look back at me then turn back to the others and giggle. I rolled my eyes. This was going to stop. While talking to Hannah, I finished my lunch.
I walked to Language Arts and sat down. Mikkel walked in shortly after and sat next to me. I took out the homework Mrs. Synfield had given us. Mikkel took his out and smiled.
"Can I copy yours?", he asked joking. I laughed.
"No!" I exclaimed, "Do your own homework!" Mikkel laughed and tried to reach over and grab my paper.
"Mine!", he said. I smacked his hand away and giggled. Mikkel laughed more and tried again. Again, I smacked his hand away.
"Mgh-gh!", Mrs. Synfield cleared her throat. Mikkel and I stopped instantly.
"Sorry, Mrs. Synfield.", Mikkel said. She quirked an eyebrow.
"Cheating off another's paper, are you now?", Synfield said. Mikkel's eyes widened. Uh-oh, I thought, Lianna! Do something! I noticed how Mikkel's handwriting was similar to mine. I quickly switched the names on the paper. Without thinking the entire thing through, I stood.
"Mikkel wasn't cheating...I-I was. I was copying his paper.", I said.
"Well, Lianna, you have received a zero on the assignment.", the young teacher said. I hung my head. This wasn't how I had expected it to go. Mikkel glanced over at me then back at my paper. Of course he had to turn it in and he did so. He hesitated a bit before he did, but he turned it in nonetheless. After the class period, Mikkel came up to me in the hall.
"Why'd you do that for me?", he asked with a sweet tone.
"I don't know," I shrugged, "I'll get back to you later on that." I walked off down the hall blushing slightly. Mikkel smiled after me. Why did I do that for Mikkel?, I asked myself. Then I realized something: I actually kinda liked Mikkel. I couldn't tell him just yet, since I had only known him for two days.
Another thing nagged at my head: How was I going to get Michael to do something about Scar? She seemed to have a huge problem with me even knowing who he is. How would you like someone that much? I shook my head, now wasn't the time to be thinking about those types of things. I had math next and I started on my way down to the class. I wasn't too excited for it since it was my worst subject and I wasn't very fond of it. Arriving at the class just as the bell rung, I hurried to a set near the back, I froze when I realized who was in the class. Scarlet. I gulped and took the seat furthest away from her, praying to god that she hadn't seen me.
The teacher shut the door and hurried to the front of the class. "Alright students. Today you're going to be doing a group project, nothing too hard just a simple math quiz that you're going to be taking together."
I sighed, I never really liked working in groups, I'd rather just work by myself and do more work. Looking back at Scarlet quickly I saw her fiddling with her phone under her desk. I shook my head and turned back to Miss. Williams.
"I have already pre made your groups, when I call your names pick up a paper from the front and then find somewhere to sit." She continued. "Alice and Sarah, Amanda and Dylan..." I zoned out the rest of the names and snapped back in when she said my name. "Lianna and Scarlet."
I froze, and widened my eye's. Quickly I raised my hand.
"Yes Lianna?" Miss. Williams asked, looking in my direction.
"Was there some sort of mistake? I don't think I should be partnered with Scarlet..."
"There was no mistake. Now grab a paper and get to work." She turned and walked off to her desk. I huffed as I made my way up to the front grabbing a paper, Scarlet sat firmly in her chair on her phone. Seeing no other option I made my way over to her.
"Uh.. So are we gonna work or no?" I asked, sitting down in the desk in front of her.
She looked up from her phone for a brief second, before looking back down. "There's no 'we' I don't know why you think I'm going to do any work." I rolled my eyes and turned forward, starting on the paper. Scarlet laughed loudly at something on her phone as I worked. At one point, halfway through the period, she kicked the back of my chair and I grumbled, turning around.
"Could you not kick my chair?"
She snickerd. "No thanks." I grumbled and turned back to the paper, I was almost done. The bell rang and I hurried out of my chair putting the paper in the bin. I went back to my seat to go and grab my bag and books but when I got there I noticed that they weren't there and neither was Scarlet. I cursed under my breath as I realized what happened. How was I supposed to get my things back? I didn't want to report anything, and I sure knew I wasn't going to tell Mikkel about it. Making my way out of the class I rushed to biology quickly and told the teacher that I had lost my things and needed to go look for them. He nodded in understanding, giving me a hall pass. I thanked him and headed out of class as the second bell rung, signaling the beginning of class. If I remembered correctly Hannah was helping out with some things in the library today so I made my way down there. I spotted her organizing books by herself and I walked over to her.
"Psst, Hannah."
She turned to be. "Oh hey Lianna. Shouldn't you be in class?" she placed another book in the shelf.
"The teacher gave me a pass. Something happened," I explained watching her organizing the books.
"What would that be?"
"Scarlet, she took my bag and all of my books. And my phone, she has my phone." I nearly screamed coming to the realization.
Her eyes widened and she nearly dropped the book in her hands. "Did you tell a teacher or something?"
I shook my head, "I don't want to report her. I'd rather not cause problems on my second day of school." She nodded in understanding and smirked.
"We'll just have to get it back ourselves then, right?" I smiled realizing what she was suggesting. "I happen to have access to schedules today, so I'll gladly tell you what class she's in."
"That'd be great. Thanks for the help," I replied with a thankful smile. She walked over to the library computer and type something in, after a few minutes of waiting she turned back to me.
"She's in Chemistry." I nodded and made my way out of the library, and down to the Chemistry classroom.
